Many of us choose tiles as a finishing material for the bathroom rather out of inertia, and not after conducting a thorough analysis of all the methods available on the modern market for decorating surfaces in rooms with high humidity. Let's look together at the advantages of this type of finishing over other options:
- It is difficult to find a material that is more moisture resistant than ceramic tiles or mosaics. You can be completely calm about protecting your walls and floors from constant exposure to moisture;
- High resistance to moisture entails another important advantage - resistance to the formation of fungus and bacterial growth. The high hygiene of the material ensures not only safety of use, but also saves owners time on cleaning surfaces;
- Ceramic tiles have a fairly high strength - if you do not throw heavy and sharp objects from a great height onto floors lined with ceramics, then there will simply be no other options for damaging the surface;
- The durability of cladding is one of the most important advantages, pushing owners of apartments and private houses to use an expensive method. If the installation of the tiles was carried out without any violations and the owners handled the surfaces carefully enough, then the renovation of the bathroom can be safely bequeathed to the younger generation;

But, like any finishing material, tile has its drawbacks. In fairness, it must be said that they cannot outweigh the many advantages:
- Decorating a bathroom with tiles is not the cheapest pleasure. Tile will cost more than painting walls or covering with moisture-resistant panels;
- The cost of installing ceramic tiles is also expensive. After all, it’s better to spend money once on a specialist with good recommendations, so as not to think about renovating your bathroom for a long time;
- The tile itself is highly resistant to moisture, but its weak point is the seams between the tiles. The more such seams (that is, the smaller the size of the products themselves), the more reasons for the owners to worry. Over time, the space between the products may darken and even become moldy. Color palette for a small bathroom
Light tiles are the first thing that comes to mind when choosing an image for a modest-sized bathroom. And this is not surprising - light shades will create not only a light, relaxed atmosphere, but will also visually enlarge a small space. But when choosing a light or even snow-white palette for decorating a bathroom, you need to be careful. Excessive use of white, and even with tiled finishing, can turn the bathroom into a sterile operating room. A small space will appear taller if you use dark colors to decorate the floor and its lower part.
If you decide to use exclusively light tiles for finishing both walls and floors, then you need to create a color accent using decor, lighting fixtures or other interior elements. Bright towels, a rug on the floor or storage systems under the sink, made in a colorful manner, will be an excellent reason to focus your eyes.
Marbled tiles will help maintain the bright appearance of the room without making it sterile and look like a hospital ward. You can add sophistication to even a small room by using imitation precious stone.
Various shades of gray are very popular in modern bathroom designs. This neutral color becomes the ideal backdrop for snow-white sanitary ware and shiny accessories. Using combinations of different shades and tiles of different sizes allows you to create interesting interiors in which everyone will feel comfortable and relaxed.
A contrasting interior is always relevant. The measured use of dark shades against the background of light finishes allows you to create a dynamic, clearly structured interior that no one will find boring. Tile options by shape and size
In Soviet times, we could all see approximately the same finish in the bathrooms of our friends. Not only because bathrooms were of standard sizes, but the material itself was exclusively square in shape with dimensions of 20x20 cm. Nowadays, the tile market is represented by such a wide selection of tiles of various shapes and sizes that everyone can find their own option. Roughly speaking, all ceramic tiles can be divided into mosaic, small, medium and large.
For mosaic tiles, the dimensions of the elements range from 1x1 to 5x5 cm. As a rule, mosaics are used to combine with tiles of larger sizes. The advantage of mosaic is that it can be used to cover complex areas and shapes - niches and arches, rounded surfaces. It is also convenient to use small mosaics for edging certain interior elements. But it is not advisable to use even large mosaics to cover all surfaces of the bathroom - there are too many tile joints that will have to be taken care of. This technique is used in exceptional cases - if the walls of the room themselves are made in rounded shapes.
The sizes of small standard tile products range from 6x6 to 20x20 cm. There are many variations in this sector of sizes - 10x10, 13x13, 15x15 cm. The average sizes of ceramic tiles range from 20x20 to 30x30 cm. There are also non-standard versions of products with dimensions of 10x20, 15x25, 20x25 cm.
Large tiles in a standard square shape have dimensions from 30x30 to 40x40 cm. Rectangular products can have dimensions of 30x60, 33x45. Of course, you can order large-sized tiles from manufacturers of finishing materials, but such products are rarely found in stores because they are not in demand among customers.
Of course, installation of large tiles is faster, but for bathrooms it is better to purchase medium-sized products. In addition to the fact that medium-sized tiles will look more organic in a modest-sized room, you can minimize the amount of waste that is inevitable when cutting tiles to fit the contours of surfaces.
To create a reliable, strong and durable floor covering, it is best to use porcelain stoneware - this is a material reinforced with tiny quartz particles that can withstand heavy loads. In rare cases, this material is also used for wall cladding, but most often it is used as flooring. Porcelain tiles can be glazed or unglazed.
Unglazed porcelain tiles have a fairly porous, rough surface that perfectly prevents slipping. Externally, such products can resemble masonry and, as a rule, are presented in plain versions.
Due to the use of glaze, porcelain stoneware products become smoother and therefore are produced with textured surfaces. Even a slight deviation from smoothness allows you to create a material for flooring that will be safe for humans. The use of glaze allows you not to be limited in the choice of color palette and even the application of drawings and ornaments.
In modern bathrooms, porcelain stoneware is often used for flooring, imitating a wooden floor board or parquet. The notes of natural warmth brought by imitation wood patterns into a snow-white room that is quite cool in terms of color temperature come in handy.
