Direct Input vs. XInput

The DirectInput command protocol has been used to work with gamepads (joysticks, steering wheels and other funny things) since I don't know how. It has great potential:

• You can configure any action on the joystick buttons.
• Vibration is supported.
• The number of buttons, levers, pedals, steering wheels and other paraphernalia can be almost endless.

Then Microsoft invented a new XInput protocol for communicating a computer with gamepads of branded Xbox consoles.

Support for sensors and a microphone, of course, adds zest to the gameplay, but game developers have deprived the owners of alternative gamepads of joy.

• Management is not configurable.
• The number of buttons and sticks is strictly limited.

Games sharpened for the new protocol do not see DirectInput gamepads. But 99% of gamepads of Chinese origin use only it!

There are gamepads that can switch between both modes. This x360ce emulator is not needed:

With the "Mode" button, you can turn on the emulation of the Xbox 360 gamepad. Of course, the sticks will not work better from this, but at least something.

In my opinion, not a single non-original gamepad will replace the original one, if only because of the accuracy of the sticks (levers). You can reduce their sensitivity, as I already said, but this is a little different.
