Exploration in Swords & Crossbones is a major part of the gameplay. You unlock new areas on the maps as you complete quests and progress through the story. You can seek and kill bosses when playing on land, exploring on the three seas is more difficult. If you do not have enough food and supplies on the ship, you are forced to return to land. The plot of the Monkey Island games contains all the paramount attributes and characters of real pirate adventures: a beautiful lady whose heart the protagonist is trying to conquer, evil sea thugs led by the ghost pirate LeChuck, hidden treasures, tropical islands and majestic sailing ships.

Despite the fact that the first part of the series was released in 1990, the Monkey Island line of games is still the best among all the pirate-themed quests, delighting players with a delightful atmosphere and story, recreated under the influence of such wonderful books as "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers and Treasure Island by Lewis Stevenson.

13. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean

12. One Piece: World Seeker

11 Pixel Piracy

Pixel Piracy is a 2D project dedicated to funny-looking pixel pirates who go about their bloody trade with the same enthusiasm and zeal as their adult 3D counterparts.

Players will have to recruit a team, create their own ship, buy weapons and provisions, and then set sail across a randomly generated world with numerous islands, merchant and military ships, pirate bases and seriously dangerous bosses.

Despite the frivolous graphic style, Pixel Piracy is a full-fledged strategy with RPG elements, in which you need to carefully monitor the condition of the ship and crew: replenish supplies and purchase weapons, pay salaries, repair the ship, learn new skills, and so on.

10. Vendetta: Curse of Raven's Cry

A very controversial game about pirates, criticized by many for a weak plot, meaningless and drawn-out dialogues, nondescript characters and, perhaps, the weakest point, for boring land battles (monotonous enemies, a small selection of weapons, a poor fencing system).

But! Vendetta: Curse of Raven's Cry has a couple of trump cards that really pushed it into our list of the best pirate games on PC.

The game has good graphics and level design, perfectly conveying the spirit of piracy in the Caribbean in the 17th century. Although the local environment is perceived solely as a beautiful scenery - for a full-fledged world that lives according to its own laws, capable of changing or at least somehow reacting to the actions of the protagonist, the Curse of Raven's Cry locations do not pull at all.

There is also a certain desire for historical accuracy in the game when demonstrating a pirate life, as well as in the proposed reconstruction of the mores and customs of that time. True, all this is rather fragmentary and episodic, often remaining unnoticed under a thick layer of clichés and fictions.

The main advantage of Curse of Raven's Cry is the amazingly staged naval battles (thank Neptune, they are present here). It can be described in three words: epic, spectacular and gloomy.

In general, the game is far from being a masterpiece, and only the most notorious piracy fans may like it.

9. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

8. Pirates of Black Cove

An excellent pirate simulator with rich gameplay, pleasant "tropical-cartoon" style, wonderful musical accompaniment and a vast, well-thought-out world, in which there was a place for many interesting characters, locations and events.

The main advantage of Pirates of Black Cove is the incredibly rich gameplay. What the developers have not included in it: simple and exciting naval battles, exploration of the sea and land, a variety of quests, exciting dialogues between characters, land battles involving several squads in the best traditions of RTS, and much more.

7. Port Royale 3

The latest installment in a series of excellent Port Royale games that combine the principles of economic simulation and strategy.

Port Royale 3 offers players an open world limited to the Caribbean and free rein to achieve influence and position in the lands and waters here.

The player can become a merchant, a manufacturer or a planter, a pirate or a privateer, he can be hired as a guard of sea caravans or a corsair hunter. The game has several dozen ships of various classes available for hire, which allows you to become the owner of an entire squadron.

Also in the game there is a very subtle, dynamically changing economic model that reacts to any events in the game world. It is possible to build and improve your own settlements and ports. And battles can take place not only at sea, but also on land.

Present in Port Royale 3 and many different quests that allow you to take the path of an adventurer and get yourself fame, wealth and power in endless sea wanderings and fights.

In general, one of the most interesting projects in our top pirate games, with a lot of freedom of action.

6 Risen 2: Dark Waters

An RPG sequel from Piranha Bytes revolving around sea monsters, pirates, voodoo magic and mysterious ancient weapons. In general, Risen 2 significantly changed course towards marine romance.

5. Series "Corsairs"

A wonderful series of games about pirates, where it is extremely difficult to single out any one, the most outstanding project, since each part has its own characteristics and advantages. However, as well as shortcomings, unfortunately.

4. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Multi-platform adventure game, the sixth in the Assassin's Creed series. Black Flag takes place in the early eighteenth century on the islands of the West Indies, the largest of which are the Bahamas, Jamaica and Cuba.

The player gets at his disposal a fast ship and the ability to recruit crew members in a variety of ways, so that later they can go with them to rob other ships, hunt whales or explore underwater caves and sunken ships in search of forgotten treasures.

3. The Pirate: Plague of the Dead

Released in 2017, a simulator from the independent studio Home Net Games, completely dedicated to pirate adventures. It is the latest game from the successful The Pirate series to date.

Plague of the Dead has a large open world, dynamic change in weather and time of day. The drawing of the ships and the water environment is done well, but the visit to the islands and the animation of the protagonist leave a very unpleasant impression.

In addition to passing the main storyline, players have access to an insane amount of various additional quests.

Also in Plague of the Dead, the developers have included a huge fleet of ships of various classes, each of which can be customized, improved, re-equipped and even renamed as you wish.

2. Tempest: Pirate Action RPG

Very beautiful and insanely exciting sandbox game on the theme of piracy. Tempest seems to have everything for players to experience all the delights of the life of desperate sea thugs.

Endless expanses of water available for free exploration, a deep role-playing system, a simple and pleasant ship control system, spectacular and often massive (3, 5 or more ships at the same time) battles that follow all the rules and laws of naval battles, an advanced ship and crew management system , and even crafting - all this is successfully embodied in Tempest: Pirate Action RPG.

In general, Tempest is one of those games that can imperceptibly captivate for long hours solely with its rich and versatile mechanics, since, unfortunately, it did not receive a full-fledged plot.

1. Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004)

An ageless classic and for many the best pirate game ever. It is from here that almost all modern pirate life simulators draw ideas. And what could be better than the original.

The main feature of Sid Meier's Pirates! - the opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of sea adventures and do what you want - rob, protect, explore, trade, and so on.

Online games about pirates

6 Seafight

Free browser based multiplayer pirate game. The gameplay is based on battles with sea monsters and ships of other players, and the battles take place in real time. Despite the seeming simplicity, the player managed to attract the attention of an impressive number of players - at the moment the game has more than 48 million users.

4. Pirate101

A free multiplayer game designed to be fun for adults and kids alike. There are five different classes in the game, each of which receives at the start a set of unique abilities, their own ship (with the possibility of further upgrading up to a huge brig, schooner or frigate) and a small detachment of companion assistants.

I also want to pay attention to the local world - impressively huge and divided into many thematic zones, each with its own characteristics: relief and climate, flora and fauna, unique culture and architecture, and much more. In general, you will definitely not be bored here.

3. Uncharted Waters Online

The next free-to-play MMO on the theme of piracy and naval battles may seem a little dated, since it was released already in 2005 (for Europe and Western America, UWO became available in 2010).

Nevertheless, today the project continues to live and develop, being regularly updated and replenished with various events. What's more, it's one of the few multiplayer games that features truly large-scale and epic PvP naval battles with dozens of ships!

In addition to sea battles and exploration of the local waters, represented by real-life seas and oceans (the events are developing in the era of the "Great geographical discoveries" and all 6 factions present here correspond to the greatest maritime nations of that time: England, Portugal, Holland, and so on), the player can engage in building ships, trading, completing quests, guarding caravans, searching for treasures, crafting and many other exciting things.

2. World of Sea Battle

A multiplayer action game focused mainly on fairly simple but exciting naval battles against other players involving a large number of ships of various classes.

Also in the game there is a beautifully rendered world divided into zones with a dynamic system of weather phenomena and time of day, battles with bosses and NPC ships, the ability to create or join an existing guild, random quests (in the near future, the developers promise to add a full-fledged story company), the ability to rob and capture ships.

World of Sea Battle is currently in open alpha testing.

1. Sea of Thieves

A well-publicized multiplayer pirate game, the main feature of which is the cooperative control of the ship. And it doesn’t matter whether the ship cuts through the sea surface, heading for the nearest island with treasures, or participates in a fierce battle - each of the players who are part of the crew will have to clearly fulfill their duties: raise sails, fire cannons, defend the deck during boarding attack, patching holes and so on.

In addition to a great idea with teamwork, Sea of Thieves attracts attention with its visual part, despite the chosen “bloody” theme of sea robbery, which is sunny-bright and cartoony. In general, one feels an orientation towards fairy tales about filibusters, and not towards gloomy realism.

The game has an open world with a large number of mysterious islands, which are hidden treasures guarded by the dead skeletons. In addition to treasure hunting quests, there are other tasks in the game given by representatives of various factions (merchants, wizards, and so on), again created under the influence of fairy tale stories about travels to strange overseas countries and lost islands, battles with sea monsters, exploration of mysterious underwater caves and so on.

Skull and Bones

A promising open-world online pirate game from Ubisoft that is very likely to take the genre to a whole new level. Or it will turn into a failure, as it sometimes happened with other projects of the company.

So far, the game looks like an incredibly beautiful RPG with sandbox elements and naval battles, something like Assassin's Creed Black Flag, in which, in addition to the multiplayer mode, there will also be a full-fledged story company (although the single-player mode issue is in some kind of limbo). Weather support, dozens of different ships, the ability to recruit your own crew, stock up on provisions and ammunition, and team up with other players in real pirate gangs - all this and much more is expected in Skull and Bones.

The sea has always attracted me. Its unexploredness, its beauty, its scale. People have always been drawn to him. Everyone has seen it at least once in their life. And everyone can say that all these overflows of water in the sun are incredibly beautiful and somehow attract. All this beauty is so attractive that you want to look at it endlessly.

But besides their beauty, different seas contain different stories. And sometimes these stories turn out to be quite sad. How many bloody battles took place on the water. But the good thing is that even the story can be presented in a playful way.

Who didn't play Battleship as a child? The same game that everyone remembers from school desks. We all mercilessly sank enemy ships in order to emerge victorious in this "paper war". But as time goes on, the games become more serious. Just for you, we have selected the 5 best PC games about naval battles.

Release date: 2016
Genre: pirates, sea battles, RPG
Developer: Lion's Shade
Publisher: Herocraft

Indie development, released last year, has not gained much popularity among gamers. But despite this, it is a decent game about pirate adventures. This role-playing game is not particularly hardcore. Rather, it allows you to feel that very sea romance, without forcing you to spend a lot of energy in battles or foraging for the team.

Screenshots of Tempest

A distinctive feature here is the open world. The player will be able to explore it completely by sailing from island to island across the great seas. But do not relax, dangers can lurk in the waters. There may even be sea monsters. Also in the game there are small elements of fantasy.

Release date: 2015
Genre: Naval battle simulator, MMO
Developer: Lesta Studio, Wargaming.net
Publisher: Wargaming.net

The multiplayer military battle simulator is now very popular. Russian and Belarusian developers were able to create a completely realistic world of sea battles. All battles take place, as planned by the developers, during the Second World War.

As in most online games, there is a leveling system for in-game currency. You can use it to improve your ship or to upgrade the skills of your ship's captain. The better you can prepare for a fight with the enemy, the greater the chance of success.

Here you have a full-fledged "Sea Battle" of the new time. Although it is worth noting that it is more similar to the Tanks from the same developers.

Sid Meier's Pirates!

Release date: 2005 year
Genre: naval battles, open world, RPG
Developer: Firaxis Games
Publisher: 2K Games

It's nice that the first game from the legendary Sid Meier series was a part about sea adventures. The original part was released back in 1987, so the 2004 remake is worth checking out. Like all other games in the series, "Pirates" is also a strategy. But here it will not do without elements of various other genres.

Screenshots of Sid Meier's Pirates

From the very beginning, you are prompted to choose a name, difficulty, special skill, and one of the four countries for which you will need to complete the game. From this it already becomes clear that there are a lot of opportunities here. Also enjoys the variety of gameplay. Traveling on the seas, battles on ships, dancing at balls - you will have to manage all this on your own. Each component of the game is very interesting, and the passage itself is incredibly captivating.

Release date: year 2000
Genre: pirates, sea battles, RPG
Developer: Akella
Publisher: 1C

The main problem of Russian developers is that the popularity of their games is not the highest. Not many have heard of this wonderful series of games. But in vain, because at one time it became a breakthrough. Both in graphics and gameplay. The last parts of the series are not particularly interesting, because the most memorable was the first.

Screenshots of the game "Corsairs: Curse of the Far Seas"

The best pirate RPG of its time came out in 2000. You will have to play in the 17th century. The campaign can be played in three countries: England, France, Spain. You can also choose pirates. Each side has its own ending, of which there are four in total. As in every RPG, here you can upgrade the skills of the main character. Also in the game there is a system of ranks of the character (captain) and ship classes.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Release date: year 2013
Genre: pirates, open world, sea battles
Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Publisher: Ubisoft Montreal

One of the most high-profile series of recent years might not continue now if its previous parts could not rehabilitate Black Flag. At a moment when everyone lost hope at Ubisoft, they were able to release a real masterpiece that received a lot of recognition from the public.

Screenshots of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

The plot here departs from the previous parts, and the narration is conducted from a completely new character. We can say that the plot here is very rich. Even each side task reveals the story of a character completely, which makes the game even more interesting. In addition to the whole gameplay of the game, which is very diverse, it is best to note the marine theme. The battles here take place at the request of the player, but they look very epic. In addition to sea battles, here you can also hunt the inhabitants of local waters and look for treasures.

The game has a lot of possibilities, and it's hard to list them all. It's just worth playing and understanding that the fight between the Assassins and the Templars deserves to be so popular.

There are a lot of simulators of various equipment on the PC. There are trucks, cars, construction vehicles, planes, tanks, tractors, etc. But what about ship simulators on PC? In fact, there are not so many good and worthy games in this direction, but today, as part of the article, we will list a few of the best that are definitely worth playing, if you wish, of course. Let's start!

Ship Simulator: Maritime Search and Rescue

The first game on today's list is Ship Simulator: Maritime Search and Rescue. The game was released in 2014 and so far there have been no fresh updates or new versions. Nevertheless, this ship simulator on PC is very interesting, even the graphics look quite acceptable.

The game has a story campaign in two seas - the North and the Baltic. In both the first and second cases, the player will have a huge number of main and secondary missions, including rescuing people who are overboard, putting out fires at sea, helping sinking ships, and much more. In addition to the career, there is also a simple mode where you can just swim in the sea.

Ship Simulator Features

What is interesting about this ship game and what features does it have? Well, for starters, it's worth noting that there is a fairly large base of various maritime transport, ranging from boats to huge rescue ships.

The second point is high realism. All equipment, interiors, exteriors of ships, physical models, characteristics of ships - all this is displayed as accurately and realistically as possible in the game, so the similarity with reality is very high.

The third is a well-designed environment. The sea in the game really looks natural, which adds even more realism. I would especially like to note the waves that change depending on the weather. In other words, if the weather is clear, then the sea is calm, but if it comes to a storm, then the ninth wave is just around the corner.

Well, the last one is management. There are two options - simplified management and full. In the first case, the computer will take over some of the functions and responsibilities, but in the second case, the responsibility lies entirely with the player.

coast guard

The second ship simulator on PC is Coast Guard. This game is somewhat similar to the previous one, because both here and there the player will play the role of the captain of a coast guard ship.

The main goal is to catch criminals at sea, collect evidence of violations in order to prove guilt, help people on sinking ships, put out fires, transport criminals to shore, etc. In short, do everything that the coast guard usually does.

The action in this ship game takes place over a large area, where there are even small islands that you can land on. The sea model is well done, plus it is very closely related to weather conditions. The player will have to complete their tasks not only in calm or calm weather, but even in a storm.

Peculiarities

The choice of ships here is not too large, but nevertheless the models are drawn very accurately and realistically. All characteristics of the ships are preserved for greater plausibility.

In addition to the career mode, which, by the way, is not very big, the game also has a single player mode where you can just swim and enjoy the beauty of the sea.

TransOcean 2: Rivals

Another ship simulator on PC that you should definitely play is TransOcean 2: Rivals. Here the player has to play not for the coast guard, but for the manager of a huge transport company. This simulator is significantly different from the previous two, because here you will have to focus more on the development of your company for the delivery of goods across the sea.

The whole world is open to the player. Cargo can be delivered absolutely anywhere in the world. The funds received from delivery will have to be invested either in the development of the company or in ships.

Simulator Features

The features of the game include the following interesting points: the development of your fleet, an unlimited number of ships, a wide variety of equipment, almost endless mission streams, a pumping mode, good graphics, a multiplayer mode and much, much more.

Those who love strategy and simulation games will definitely like this game.

World of Warships

Well, the last one on the list is a warship simulator. Riding the sea and transporting tourists, cargo, or just chasing violators is an interesting thing, but what if you want to directly control a warship, moreover, take part in hostilities? Install World of Warships! Yes, perhaps someone will say that this is not a full-fledged simulator, but this is not entirely true.

The game World of Warships has a huge number of different ships from different countries during the First and Second World Wars, divided by their respective classes. There are battleships, there are destroyers, there are cruisers and aircraft carriers - the choice depends only on the player. All ship models are very realistically designed and created in accordance with all the characteristics and features of real models.

Physics in the game is present, and it is of very high quality. The sea deserves special attention, which completely resembles the present in its behavior and when weather conditions change, it radically changes its behavior. The following should also be said about the weather, that the outcome of the battle often also depends on it, because in order to win, for example, in a storm, you will have to make considerable efforts.

Game features

The main features of the game include excellent physics, a large number of ship models, realistic controls, an excellent combat system, multiplayer mode, well-designed and traced locations and excellent graphics.

So if on one of the evenings after a hard day at work you want to sink a couple of ships, then the World of Warships ship simulator game will come in handy for these purposes.
