DIY drawings for assembling a children's bed. DIY children's bed. Important aspects when choosing a children's bed

Children grow up quickly, and now they need to create more adult, spacious sleeping conditions. It is very important to do good bed for a girl with your own hands. A place to relax must meet all the requirements of quality, safety and, of course, look aesthetically pleasing. After all, children spend more time in bed than adults. How a child sleeps determines his well-being, mood, activity during the next day, desire and ability to learn and comprehend the world around him.

Important aspects when choosing a children's bed

  1. When deciding to make a bed for a girl or a boy, the main thing adults should think about is the choice of materials. The best material For making furniture with your own hands, natural wood is used. This is an environmentally friendly, natural and durable raw material. Consider using pine, birch, alder, etc.
  2. Carefully consider the choice of bed design. Experts recommend the presence of spring strips at the base. They allow you to correctly distribute the load and ensure a comfortable position of the spine. Placed on top of slats orthopedic mattress. Sometimes the slats should be replaced with a solid covering, such as plywood. Whatever base you choose, consult with experts about the reliability of the material - your active child can not only sleep, but also jump on the bed.
  3. If the bed is intended for a child under 10 years old, take care of the safety of the bed. Don't sleeping place too high, consider installing small removable side rails, plan the model without sharp corners or irregularities.
  4. Many parents, saving room space, expand the functionality of the bed with various shelves, drawers for linen, cabinets, and hanging structures. While doing all this, do not forget that the sleeping place should be well ventilated and, above all, suitable for proper rest.

The requirements for children's and teenage beds apply equally to models for boys and girls. The external difference can be the decor of the bed itself, bed linen, accessories (carvings, pillows, canopy, etc.) Therefore, when choosing the shape of the headboard, footboard, color and design of the wooden bed, take into account the character, hobbies, taste preferences of the girl, as well as the interior of her room.

Preparing to create a bed

To assemble a bed for a girl yourself, start purchasing the materials you will need to create wooden product V classic style.

  • 2 wooden bars 10x10 cm, about 2.5 m long;
  • 4 strips 3x10 cm, 2.5 m long;
  • 4 boards 3x15 cm, 2.5 m long;
  • 1 board 5x10 cm 2.5 m long;
  • 1 plank 5x15 cm 2.5 meters long.
  • 3 wooden planks 5x10 cm length 2.5 m;
  • 2 boards 3x25 cm, 2.5 m long;

  • acrylic paint on water based white (or other color that suits you);
  • brush.

Prepare carpentry and auxiliary tools for work: tape measure, square, pencil, drill with a set of drills and special attachments, circular saw, device for fastening to nails, grinding machine.

Start slicing wooden parts according to the lists below. If for some reason you cannot make blanks, order cutting wood material at the place of purchase.

For the head of the bed:

  • 2 pieces-legs 10x10 cm long, 1.37 m each;
  • 4 blanks for forming a 3x10 panel, 98 cm long;
  • 7 panel boards 3x10 cm, 76 cm each;
  • 1 piece 5x10 cm, 11.6 m long - the top bar above the legs and panel;
  • 1 piece of the upper part of the headboard 5x15 cm, length 12.1 m.

For the foot:

  • 2 legs 10x10 cm, 53 cm long;
  • 4 pieces forming a panel, 3x10 cm, length 98 cm;
  • 7 panel boards 3x15 cm each, 38 cm long;
  • 1 strip for installation above the legs and footboard panel 5x10 cm, length 11.6 m;
  • 1 upper part footboard 5x15 cm, length 12.1 m.

For the mattress base:

  • 2 elements of the side parts of the base 5x10 centimeters long, 20.5 m each;
  • 2 side panels 3x25 cm, length 19.4 m;
  • 2 blanks of the short sides of the base 5x10 cm, 90 cm long.

Before you start assembling the bed grinder remove burrs from the workpieces and level the surfaces. Prepare workplace. To do this, select the most flat surface possible, remove dirt, dust, and unnecessary objects from it.

Assembly instructions

  1. Build a headboard based on its diagram below. First, assemble the inside of the panel from 7 boards 76 cm long. Align the planks, connect them tightly together using glue and 3 cm nails.
  2. Attach the panel strips to both sides (at the ends of the planks) using screws and glue perpendicular to the edges of the 98 cm board.
  3. Place the entire central part between the leg blanks. Drill holes, apply glue, connect with 8cm screws. The top edge of the panel and the ends of the legs should form one line. After each action, use a square to check the angle of connection/location of parts at 90 degrees.
  4. Install a strip 11.6 m long on the screws and glue. Drill the holes in advance and countersink them so that the screw heads do not protrude above the level of the wood. Make the connection. Immediately wipe off excess glue. This will allow the paint to cover the wood evenly during the final finishing.
  5. The final assembly step. Install a 12.1 m long strip on top of the structure. Align the position of the part so that the edges protrude on all sides above the surface of the headboard by approximately 30 mm. Since this part serves only a decorative role, glue and finishing nails will be enough for fastening.
  6. In the same sequence, assemble the footboard from the prepared parts using nails, screws and glue.

If you have a ready metal frame under the mattress, this will simplify the work and help you finish it earlier. You only need to build the side ones wood panels. If you are going to do it completely wooden frame, continue assembly.

  1. Connect the footboard and headboard by installing 19.6 m long wooden panels. To do this, mark the parts. Prepare holes for 8 cm screws. Apply glue. Connect the parts.
  2. Attach the inner slats for the mattress base to the panel using screws and glue. Place them at a distance of 30-40 mm from the bottom edge of the panel.
  3. Attach short ones (90 cm each) to the ends of the long slats. Fasten from the inside so that the ends of the 8 cm screws go into the wood of the leg. Use glue.

Make space for the mattress in a way that suits you best. You can install slats of 50x50 mm slats on screws at a distance of 15 cm from one another, order a ready-made base of slats, or use another option. Consider the recommendations of specialists on this issue and the characteristics of your child (weight, habits, activity, etc.).

Shutdown

Before you start finishing finished bed, decide on how to decorate it. The surface can be decorated carved elements, apply gilding using decoupage, transfer a flower or other image to the headboard. Paint it bright pink, red or lilac color. In this project we offer a classic universal finishing option that will suit any interior:

  1. Fill indentations, screw holes, and uneven surfaces of the wood with putty.
  2. Leave the product until the putty dries.
  3. Sand the bed parts.
  4. Remove dust. Apply a coat of primer.
  5. After the composition has dried, paint the bed.
  6. To ensure an even and rich color, apply 1 or 2 more layers. acrylic paint water based.

All that remains is to put on the mattress and make the bed using decorative pillows, bedspreads. This bed will become your girl's favorite place in the house.

Making a crib is a responsible task on which the health of the child depends. Safety of design, functionality and environmental friendliness of materials are the three pillars of any modern crib, no matter what price segment she wasn't there.

The author proposes to make a classic model of a crib from unpainted wood with the ability to adjust the height of the mattress. In addition, you will learn how to make a children's mattress with your own hands and how to choose the right filling.

To make a baby crib with your own hands you will need:

Materials:
- glued furniture board or non-waterproof plywood for making a frame with a thickness of 8 - 15 mm;
- a block 35 x 35 or 40 x 40 mm for making a frame;
- slats with a thickness of 15 - 20 mm for the manufacture of sheathing;
- wood glue;
- natural linseed or quick-drying furniture oil for wood processing;
- furniture screws, self-tapping screws;
- furniture dowels 8 mm;
- furniture bolts and nuts for assembling frame elements;
- dense furniture foam rubber of high rigidity;
- padding polyester for mattresses and soft bumpers;
- fabric for making a mattress cover, zipper;
- fabric for making soft bumpers.

Tools:
- jigsaw or hand-held circular saw;
- miter saw;
- manual milling cutter for making grooves;
- clamps;
- sander;
- drill;
- screwdriver;
- spanner, screwdriver;
- sewing machine, iron, scissors;
- a sharp knife for cutting foam rubber;
- construction tape, square, ruler;
- marker.

Manufacturing process
Step one: making side shields
The author made the side elements of the frame from furniture panels and wooden blocks. Furniture board is an absolutely natural material, which is a wooden sheet made by gluing boards of different widths together.

Even when it comes to making children's furniture, the furniture board can be replaced with plywood. The choice of plywood in this case must be taken responsibly, since some types can be toxic.

You will need first or second grade plywood marked FK or FBA. Both types are harmless and recommended for making children's furniture. Remember that such plywood is not moisture resistant and requires additional coating.

Prepare two pieces of furniture board or plywood for the side walls of the crib. Mark and cut out a recess at the base for the legs. Use a drill and jigsaw for this.

Also prepare pieces of timber for making the frame of the panels. They are sawn off at an angle of 135 degrees and fixed to the board using glue and furniture dowels. Use beech dowels with a diameter of 8 mm.

Step two: making lattice sides
The sides of the crib are made of natural wood. You will need thin slats and bars with a cross section of 35 x 35 or 40 x 40 mm.
Prepare horizontal guides. Pre-sand the wood and round the corners. Mark the grooves using a template.

The author cut out the grooves manual router. You can also use it to cut tenons on the sheathing. To do this, assemble the sheathing parts and temporarily fasten them together. Mark and process the workpieces on 4 sides as shown in the photo.
Assemble the sides using glue.

Step three: assembling the perimeter of the crib
Connect the side elements of the frame and the side. To do this, mark and drill in the sidewalls through holes under the bolts. To fix the bolts, the author uses furniture barrel nuts with a hole for a flat-head screwdriver. The holes for the nuts are located on the sides. Mark the nut into the hole and tighten the bolt so that it fits into the nut hole. While screwing in the bolt, hold the nut with a screwdriver.

Step four: making the crib frame
Assemble the bed frame on dowels. Use wood glue. The author uses bars as lathing. You can also purchase ready-made slats with fasteners. They create a spring base and at the same time have amazing strength. The slats will significantly extend the life of the mattress and allow it to breathe. The most unsuitable base for a mattress is a solid panel flooring.

Step five: assembling the crib frame
In order to install the frame, place a couple of bars on the bottom trim as shown in the photo. Secure the frame from below with clamps. Drill holes in the sides for the bolts. The drill must also pass through the plane of the external frame trim.
Place the bolts into the resulting holes and tighten with nuts from the inside. Now the temporary bars can be removed.

The author also provided for installing the base of the crib in the second - top position. This is very convenient while the child is small and cannot get up on his own. In this position, it is easier for mom to get him out of the crib without bending down to the very base.

Remove the base. You will need 4 small pieces of wood. Drill through holes for the bolt and install the bars on the same fasteners as the base before. Attach stops made of thin boards or veneer to the base frame in the center.

Step six: making the mattress
The crib mattress is made of furniture foam rubber. Please note that furniture foam rubber has absolutely different hardness according to its labeling. One might assume that a child needs a soft mattress, but here the situation is just the opposite. After all, to form correct posture, children need a fairly rigid sleeping place.

You will need two pieces of foam rubber according to the size of the mattress. Thus, the thickness of the mattress will be 10 cm. For the top layer, choose foam rubber with a hardness above average. Under no circumstances should you buy memory foam, as in rare cases it can cause suffocation for newborns. For the bottom layer, if desired, you can use medium-hard foam.

Glue two layers of foam rubber together with non-flammable glue, which is usually used by furniture makers. Wrap the resulting foam blank in a layer of padding polyester and place it in a fabric cover. The author connected the layers of foam rubber with a strong thread.

Fabric cover for children's mattress usually equipped with a zipper. To sew it, use only natural fabric- most often cotton, linen, and more recently bamboo.

Choose durable fabrics with a density of at least 180 g per 1 square meter. m., for example teak or jacquard weave fabrics.

The modern market offers a sufficient selection of children's furniture, including cribs.

A child will be able to sleep in his crib for a maximum of four years, then he will have to change it to a more adult-sized version. And the price of furniture is not cheap at all, so there is an option to make a comfortable crib with your own hands. It's not as difficult as it seems at first glance!

It is not at all necessary to be a professional in this field and spend a lot of time on assembly.

The first step is to purchase only high-quality environmentally friendly materials and take this issue seriously, considering the entire upcoming process.

The photo of a do-it-yourself crib shows how to make one for a five-year-old child, but all of the specified parameters can be increased to a larger size.

The benefits of a self-made bed

When you go to a furniture store, you can find a lot of options for children's beds from various materials(plastic, fiberboard, chipboard, wood). The best material, of course, wood, which provides safety, durability and is the most durable option.

A finished wooden crib is quite expensive. Not every family can afford such costs, especially since it will only last a few years.

The cost of a hand-made design will be several times less and has the following positive aspects:

  • reliability in use of the design. Children often love to play and jump on the bed, and you won’t have to worry that it will break under the load;
  • You can make a strictly individual bed. Which will suit the style and interior of the children's room and has individual sizes;
  • The creation process will help you spend time with interest with your child, who will probably not refuse to help his parents.

Purchasing the necessary material and preparing tools

To begin with, you should carefully prepare the room in which the planned process will take place. If it will take place directly in the room, it is wise to cover the floor and furniture with film, since a lot of dust and sawdust will appear during the work.

Then you need to competently prepare an exact drawing of a crib for a newborn with your own hands, or find a suitable sketch on the Internet.

You will need a number of materials:

  • self-tapping screws of different diameters;
  • wooden panels for furniture;
  • special wheels with which the drawers will be pulled out;
  • a sheet of plywood or a metal grid for the base of the bed;
  • sandpaper for processing cuts.

The set of tools is absolutely minimal: electric jigsaw, grinder and regular drill.

It is important to first, before drawing up the drawing, measure the mattress that will be placed in the crib, since later it will be more difficult to choose the right size!

Step-by-step making of a baby crib with your own hands

Having decided on the size and design of the children's bed, you can begin the actual work:

  • Everything is carefully applied with a pencil necessary markings, not forgetting about the sides.
  • Then, using a jigsaw, you need to carefully cut out all the parts.
  • Need to cut metal corners the right size, immediately drilling holes in them (maximum five), into which self-tapping screws will be mounted in the future.
  • To make the base of the mattress, you need to screw the corners to the bottom of the sides.
  • Having conveniently placed the crib on its side, you need to assemble all the necessary parts.
  • Use sandpaper to smooth out possible irregularities and sharp corners.
  • There are spacious drawers at the bottom of the furniture.
  • It is wise to coat the crib with varnish or a similar coating, which will give it an aesthetic appearance.
  • The final stage: place the mattress on the bottom of the bed and spread the bed linen.

Accessories for baby's bed

Crib for small penis families must be equipped with sides that will serve as protection for the baby. It’s very easy and fun to sew the sides of a crib with your own hands.

Their most popular type is the option that protects all four sides and is secured with regular ties.

Pay attention!

When choosing fabric for children's bumpers, you should opt for lightweight materials with not too “pretentious” patterns, since the baby will have to study the patterns around him for quite a long time.

A cape over the crib protects the child from insects and possible drafts. It is also possible to make an original canopy for a crib with your own hands by choosing the right fabric.

It is better to buy two different cuts (quite wide for the allowance) natural material: weightless, light, summer fabric and denser fabric for winter. First, you need to purchase a frame that attaches to the bed. Then draw a pattern according to size, cut out the parts and sew them in the right places.

With imagination and minimal skills, you can make an original, unique crib that will serve and delight both you and your baby for several years!

Pay attention!

I can't help but rejoice at how quickly our children are growing up. So my daredevil has grown to four years old and no longer fits into his crib, which is one meter and twenty centimeters long. What kind of “pull-ups” are there now?!

This is what should happen.

As everyone well knows, a comfortable crib for a baby is the key to his harmonious development. Children spend much more time sleeping than adults. And if also living area small, the crib can serve as an excellent help instead of a playpen. No wonder they top the list mandatory purchases for a child.

My wife and I looked around several furniture centers in search of a new crib. However, we came to the conclusion that we would make it ourselves, since not a single model met our requirements:

  • Exceptional solid wood, without MDF and chipboard, in extreme cases, use plywood. Personally, I even have some kind of genetic distrust of super-ecological imported chipboards;
  • Mandatory presence on the crib to prevent the child from falling (well, at least small ones);
  • The dimensions of the baby bed must be no less than 160x70 cm and no more than 190x80 cm (the dimensions are determined by us taking into account the space allocated for the crib and common sense);
  • The bottom of the crib should be equipped with spacious drawers (since one-room apartment have to fight for rational use every square centimeter);
  • If available, the price of a bed should not exceed twenty thousand rubles (a personal amount allocated for these purposes from the family budget).

For a long time we looked closely at all kinds of folding sofas, cribs, and discussed options with a sofa. But they couldn’t decide on a purchase: either the presence of chipboard, or the lack of sides, non-removable mattresses, tiny drawers, or “exorbitant” prices.

I eventually went to a hardware store and purchased the following tools and materials from the list:

  • furniture panels;
  • aluminum corners;
  • different-sized screws;
  • wheels for drawers;
  • drills and other household items.

This purchase cost me 8,500 rubles. For another 7,500, I also purchased a lattice base from an online store for 1,600 rubles (although I could have gotten by with a sheet of plywood). Total expenses amounted to: 17,600 rubles.

Here they are, my initial materials. The size of the mattress and lattice base is 180x80 cm. There will be a royal bed for my tomboy!

I'm making markings.

I use a jigsaw to cut the designated areas, although maintaining a perfect straight cutting line is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. I sealed the cut areas with paper tape so that the fibers would not lift up as much (I read about this on specialized websites).

To my great surprise, the tape tends to run out quickly. Therefore, we had to work further without it, the main thing in this matter is not to saw the stool!

For drawing complex shapes I actively used improvised means. I came up with a recess in the front side so that my son could climb into the crib himself. And it wouldn’t hurt for me to take a break on it!

This is what happened, although before cutting it was a monolithic shield measuring 200x60x2.8 cm.

I made the holes and didn’t forget the rivet (it will be hidden under the head of the screw).

This inner side the front part of the sidewall, and the base of the mattress will be located on this corner. To begin with, I installed it on 4 self-tapping screws, but after thinking about it, I added four more for greater reliability. Fortunately, I bought self-tapping screws with a reserve!

He carefully laid the structure on its side, fearing that it might accidentally crumble at any moment. I carefully drill holes and fasten the panels together. Your own eye and a perfectly made mattress lattice are responsible for the straightness of the corners!

I fasten it with furniture ties, for which I prudently purchased special drill which saves a lot of time.

The first hole for the screed.

The first screed itself.

This is the result after all the twisting and fastening work is completed - an excellent, solid bed base!

I installed the bed in a specially designated place and laid out the mattress. I placed a panel at the bottom of the crib so it wouldn’t get in the way, and left everything as is for a while, since I can only afford to do construction and household chores on weekends. Our son had to sleep in an unfinished crib for a whole week, and during this time some flaws in the design became clear.

It turned out that sleeping without a headboard is not entirely comfortable, or rather very uncomfortable:

  • in a dream, the child tosses and turns and, raising his head above the pillow, can accidentally catch the side, since its height is only 10 cm;
  • a child can easily throw a pillow over the low side;
  • the absence of a headboard means a lack of comfort; as soon as I lay down, I was immediately convinced of this.

It’s not pleasant when you contemplate bumps or bruises on your child’s head. I went to the store and bought two more small furniture panels for assembling the headboard. I sawed them as follows: for the back - one large sheet and two smaller ones - for the sides (the smallest one in the photo is just a trim).

This is me in a creative search to decide on the design and shape of the future headboard.

For symmetry, I cut out another part according to the shape of the back of the headboard.

According to Wikipedia information, emery (grinding) abrasive material is intended for surface treatment different composition(wood, glass, metal, plastic). Oh, I had a lot of trouble with this abrasive material!

I cut out a window in one of the sidewalls, which will serve more of a technical function than a decorative one. So I'm going to make an attachment to the side of the crib.

I make cuts in the bathroom. My wife (I give her a lot of credit for being patient) had to put up with a thick layer of fragrant spruce dust on all the toiletries.

To draw curves and bends, I again used all sorts of available tools.

It is very important to follow exactly the intended cutting line and not deviate even a millimeter from the course.

I twist, fasten, tighten, adjust

Since it is not possible to use a drill from inside the window, I had to drill a hole from the bottom up. Place for a hat furniture screed done by hand (lucky that spruce is a fairly pliable wood).

While creating graphic ovals, I felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction from my own artistic achievements, but after cutting, my masterpiece ceased to be an elegant, presentable design. But the ovals served their functional purpose very well, and the child enjoys looking at them before bed. He even uses them in his new fun: he covers himself with a blanket along with the headboard and, with the feeling of creating a personal reservation, waves to us through the side windows.

At this stage, construction work had to be postponed again until the following weekend.

The long-awaited weekend has arrived, and we are starting to make legs for the crib and assemble drawers. To do this, I needed a scrap about 20 cm wide from the end panel.

My imagination told me to make legs like this.

It is necessary to file the corners to the legs.

This is exactly how I originally envisioned attaching the legs to the crib base.

Our consciousness sometimes leads us into the wonderful world of mysteries and secrets (and it just frolicked over me)! I still can’t find intelligible answers to the question: “Why did I decide to attach the legs of the bed in such a bizarre way?” This whole process could have ended with the elementary use of long self-tapping screws. But, apparently, at that moment I didn’t want to go shortcut towards achieving your goal.

Now it’s time to use the part of the front side that was simply temporarily attached to the bed. From 12mm plywood I cut the bottoms and sides for two drawers. For clarity, I somehow put this whole structure together.

Our bathroom has undergone a makeover again, this time in decorative coating aluminum dust (wood dust was heroically eliminated by my other half within a week).

I twist and fasten.

I install wheels with a diameter of 4.5 cm.

The fitting process without facades. We make sure that rotation occurs without any difficulty, even in the presence of a heavy load.

We complete the work by hanging the facades.

Sweet dreams, my baby!

P.S. The entire process of assembling and installing a crib will take you only a few days (in my case, three Saturdays). Advice for those who decide to follow my example:

  • if possible, carry out construction and installation work outside the house (at the dacha, in the garage), since it is very difficult to get rid of traces of three-layer dust (wood, aluminum and emery);
  • think and plan carefully first, then do (unlike my sequence);
  • Order cutting of plywood and panels directly in the store, having previously indicated the exact sizes and shapes.
