Additional board: device, purpose and installation work. Installing an extension on a door - step-by-step instructions for performing installation work Standard sizes of extensions

Any door, entrance or interior, should look organic. Agree that a motley doorway does not look very nice - when the canvas has a wood tone, and the slopes vaguely resemble the pattern of a wall or a white ceiling.

If earlier the opening slopes were destined to be only plastered, painted or covered with wallpaper, then the modern market offers a new solution to the problem - door trims. What it is? - some ordinary people will ask.

With the advent of door extensions, the interior or entrance opening began to look richer and more beautiful.

Let's study this concept to know how to choose the right door and additional decors so that the opening has a logically complete look.

The word “dobor” itself already indicates that you need to get something. In our case, the door frame, which most often has a standard width of 75 mm, will be used. But the walls of each house or apartment may differ from the prescribed dimensions and dictate their own rules for choosing an entrance door or an interior door.

Walls are constructed from different materials: brick, blocks, logs, frame construction. Not only the external walls of the building, but also internal partitions can be made from this material. Therefore, a certain width of the doorway may remain unaffected by the frame. It is unlikely that it will be possible to install platbands to match the main canvas, because the result will not be very good. This is where door (or frame) extensions come to the rescue.

Door extensions allow you to close the wall of the opening to match the door block.

By purchasing planks of the appropriate size and color, you will create a beautiful door portal that will look much better and richer. Even cheap doors are transformed by installing door trims.

By the way, you can decorate a doorway beautifully. But this is suitable if there is no door at all.

What types of door extensions are there?

This is the second question that arises in the head of a person who has become acquainted with the concept of door extensions. Because you need to know their classification if door decors are purchased separately, after installing the interior structure.

In terms of size, all door elements are mainly divided by width. Standard planks are from 50 to 560 mm. The length of the strips is produced in parameters of 2100 or 2200.

Select the additional board according to the size of the doorway.

The thickness of the leaf is equal to the size of the groove, which is cut out at the end of the door frame and corresponds to 10 mm. If your opening does not correspond to the presented dimensions, then with a smaller width the extensions can be cut, but with a larger width the strips must be ordered from the manufacturer of interior doors.

Based on the material used, door panels from the manufacturer are made from the same material as the door block:

  • solid wood of different types;
  • MDF;
  • laminate;
  • Fiberboard.

Any detail is tinted in a specific color or covered with PVC film, imitating various shades. It is best to select door decors together with the purchase of a new door to avoid problems with matching the shade or texture.

You can make extensions with your own hands from any available material:

    • plywood;
    • board;
  • remnants of plastic panels.

This is a more profitable solution for non-standard openings, when there are problems with the curvature of the walls, their large thickness, or the doors are made by hand. In other situations, it is easier, cheaper and more reliable to buy ready-made door panels. Many manufacturers make them complete with the main product.

Based on the method of installing the extensions, it cannot be said that they are all the same. This is mainly due to the door frame, which was purchased complete with the door leaf. Not all frame strips are equipped with a groove that allows for the installation of a door addition. Therefore, the strips can be installed in a groove or without it. The installation technique is slightly different, but we will talk about this later.

In terms of color, the choice of planks is as wide as the choice of interior doors.

Door trims are selected in color and texture in accordance with the frame and leaf.

Each door decor must match the set so that the opening looks harmonious. Even a small difference in color will catch the eye in good lighting. In the photo you can see perfectly selected door panels, allowing you to create a single portal that fits well into the interior of the space.

When choosing an extension for a metal entrance door or interior block, there are no particular differences.

For the front door, you can choose panels made of MDF or solid wood.

A small nuance lies in their installation, because the metal box does not have a groove for decorative strips. Only connecting elements are suitable here.

In terms of price, the extras also differ. This is due to the material and size of the plank. But you shouldn't save money when purchasing. If solid wood doors are chosen for a house or apartment, then you should not buy laminate doors. Such savings will spoil the impression of the entire interior. Be sure to choose all the finishing elements for the interior opening from the same material and preferably from the same batch.

Choosing the right door panels without headaches

If you have started a renovation or simply decided to install or update doors, do not rush to run to the store. The choice should always be thoughtful and balanced.

First, measure the entrance or interior doorway (depending on where you choose the door). For wall thicknesses up to 80 mm, it is enough to purchase a door frame and leaf. If the size is larger, even 50 mm, you need to think about buying door extensions.

If additional wall decor is needed, measurements should be taken correctly. Walls rarely have the correct dimensions and proportions. We take measurements in horizontal and vertical planes, taking into account the characteristics of the door frame (with a groove, without a groove, because 1 cm plays a big role when installing extensions). We determine the required width of the extension by taking measurements at three or four points on the right, left, and upper parts of the opening. It is better to take the planks with a small margin; in the future, it is easier to remove the excess than to increase the missing millimeters.

If you plan to install the accessories yourself, buy spare parts so that if one element gets damaged, you don’t have to return to the store. When choosing the services of a specialist, it is enough to trust the experience of a specialist.

We recommend purchasing the accessories at the same time as the door block. If repairs are being carried out and you decide to update the old door and replace the old slopes with new additions, then you will have to approach the search for door frame additions responsibly.

Different ways to install certain types of extensions

Basically, the installation of door panels depends on the type of frame initially selected. It determines how quickly and simply the installation will be done.

    • If there is a groove in the end part of the vertical and horizontal beams, pre-provided by the manufacturer, it is necessary to adjust the extension to the size of the wall of the opening not affected by the frame. Install three planks in the groove, first applying glue or securing with foam (this depends on the gap that appears between the wall and the extension).
  • If there is no groove, you need to make it yourself using a router or use another method of installing the extension based on the characteristics of the walls.

We described more complete information on this in one of our articles. Let's just say a few words that installation in any way, taken as a basis for independent execution, does not require special skills.

You can do the installation of door panels yourself by choosing the right method.

We just don’t forget that the planks must be perfectly level, so that in the future it is easy to install platbands for a complete set and a finished look of the door portal. When cutting off the excess width of the strip, do not forget that the groove for installing the platband should not be damaged. If you neglect this point, you will have to change the bar or find a way to firmly adhere the platband to the entire structure. Look at the photos of the extensions, complemented by door frames.

The door portal will look richer and better if you select and install extensions and trims.

When doing renovations or thinking about how to give new life to an old door, do not forget about the little details that give the portal and interior a complete look. Having studied the information about door extensions and what they are, you are closer to creating the ideal interior with your own hands.

A door trim is a strip used to extend the door frame, the width of which is less than the thickness of the walls. This is a decorative technique that advantageously improves the complex decoration of the doorway and preserves the integrity of the door composition.

A very important and necessary element, often common in modern restoration repairs, where the thickness of the wall due to the uncontrolled application of various solutions, such as putty or plaster, cannot be predicted or calculated.

In some cases, craftsmen prefer to finish the slope part with putty, bringing it to zero and clear, even angles. This technique is especially used with fairly thick walls, where extensions to interior doors can be very wide. But with wall thicknesses up to 20-25cm, extensions can be used organically and quite appropriately.

What are the accessories for interior doors made of?

Additional strips are made from various materials. Basically, they are made for specific door models, since according to generally accepted rules, the extension should not differ from the door frame and leaf, as well as the casing, in coating or color. Therefore, they are most often offered as an additional set to the main set of doors - frame, leaf and trim.

Their demand depends directly on the popularity of door leaves of a particular modification. They are made from different types of wood, like doors made from veneered MDF, OSB or chipboard.

Lamination can also be different - in addition to veneer, they use polyvinyl chloride film or textured melamine paper, painted in the color of wood species.

In MDF technology, waterproof impregnation with resins is used to avoid warping. Lamination is carried out from one plane, used as the front working side, as well as both ribs. There are also plastic options, but they are designed for specific types of doors.

Dimensions of additional strips for interior doors.

The planks can also vary in width and thickness. These are mainly specimens about 1-5 cm thick, 210 – 240 cm long, and 10-40 cm wide. Their dimensions may vary depending on the specific door manufacturer. Excessive width and length of extensions are not acceptable for standard equipment and can only be made to order.

Average price category of interior additions.

Since this element is optional, it is not included in the main comprehensive set of interior doors. In terms of prices, it does not exceed the cost of a door frame, and is valuable only in view of its specific application with a specific door leaf.

In most cases, extensions are made with long planks, sometimes they are sawed in half to finish the upper part of the slope. On average, the price for a long strip varies from 350-1000 rubles, depending on the material and door manufacturer.

Door extensions from the Russian company “Sofya” are in the price category slightly above average, have a thickness of 53 mm, a length of 2100 mm, and cost about 800 rubles. They are presented in a range of finishes, numbering about 30 lamination options, both artificial and natural veneer.

For doors from the Profil Doors company, additional installations will cost 450-700 rubles. They are produced in a strict configuration with a specific modification of the canvas. They are available in 2 widths – 100 and 150 mm. The length of the extensions is 2100mm.

The Belarusian Doors company offers veneered finishing options for additional trims. Their price category is not expensive, ranging from 450-650 rubles per bar. Width – 100-150mm.

The procedure for installing extensions on interior doors.

Before you begin adjusting and installing the additional kit in place, you should first decide on its appropriate size. By measuring the thickness of the wall and subtracting the width of the door frame from this size, we get the net width of the additional trim.

In some rare cases, there is a need to place the doors in the middle of the opening. In this case, the net width of the extension must be divided into two parts and placed on both sides. Standard installation involves one-sided exposure of the door frame.

The extensions for interior doors are made in the form of a regular smooth strip, without any holes or grooves for fastening. But in the door frame, especially for Belarusian doors, a groove is made on the back side of the edge of the frame, especially for installing the extension.

Most types of extensions are designed to be placed in the opening before the main installation of the door. But there are varieties that are installed after the door is installed, on the prepared plane of the door opening. Let's look at the variations of installing accessories in order:

First we need to assemble the doors. After assembling the box and fitting it into the opening, you can safely begin finishing with additional trim. For this purpose, it is, of course, better to have an electric one, for example, a cutting saw with an upper bed or a jigsaw with an electric grinder.

If you have 1 or several doors, you can get by with a hacksaw and a plane. When adjusting the required size, you must not forget about the groove in the box, the size of which must be added to the net size of the strip. Having cut off the required dimensions of all 3 sides to the width and length and aligned them, you can begin installation.

There are several possible ways to install extensions.

The easiest way is to screw it to the door frame, before it is installed in the opening, using screws, nails or glue.

But what to do if the doors are already standing? There are several tips for these cases.

The first method is to install it on dowel nails or anchor bolts, drilled directly into the wall with a hammer drill. Expansion dowel-nails from Wkret-met are best suited for this case. It is necessary to first drill the extension using a conventional drill with a drill whose diameter coincides with the diameter of the dowel cap or anchor bolt.

Then, using a hammer drill and the necessary drill, a hole is made in the wall. 3-4 fastening holes for the vertical guide sides and several holes in the top bar are sufficient. The screws of the fasteners are screwed flush with the surface of the extension so that they can be closed with a plastic plug pre-set with glue. The method is somewhat difficult in that the distance to the wall may be different, and you may have to use polyurethane foam.

The second method is installation only on foam, suitable for thin options, about 1-2cm thick. A more gentle installation method that does not require any additional power tools. It is most practical to place the trims adjusted to size into the grooves with the cut side, and the flat side facing outwards towards the platband. Having assembled the frame of the extension together, they fix it to the wall as stably and reliably as possible.

This procedure can be done with a vertical bar without much difficulty. After the final installation, you can safely foam the extension without fear of it swelling relative to the door frame. In addition, the extensions are also attached to especially strong liquid nails. Having secured the entire set of additional strips, you can confidently mount the door casing.

Additional strips serve as an excellent addition to modern doors, ennobling the opening space and making the door installation itself logically complete.

What is a supplement and why is it needed?

Many doors produced by factories are designed for standard city apartments. Installation difficulties usually arise in old buildings or country houses. The thickness of the walls in these rooms may differ from the standard one, which is usually 7-8 cm. The places in the opening that remain unblocked by the door frame are often finished with plastic, plasterboard or plaster. However, a much more convenient way out of the situation is to install a kind of expander - an extension.

This element consists of 3 strips - 2 vertical and 1 horizontal. With their help, it is quite easy to enlarge the area that covers the door frame - i.e. “get” the required centimeters. The part you need can be purchased together with the entire structure or separately. If you have the necessary tools and materials, make the additional strips yourself.

Advice. One of the main criteria for selecting a product is its similarity with other details of the interior design. To make the addition look organic and not stand out from the general background, carefully select it, focusing on the color and texture of the door and frame.

It is difficult to highlight the pros or cons of this part - this is just one of the possible options that allows you to fill the width of the box. Those who chose this method note the following features of the extras:

  • due to its use, you can install the door quite quickly;
  • using a strip allows you to avoid wet finishing of the door, which is not very beneficial for wood (using wallpaper or plaster);
  • thanks to this detail, the stability of the entire structure increases;
  • an interior door with an installed extension looks much more attractive and has a finished, presentable appearance.

Attention! In cases where the door jamb is severely skewed, and the door leaf was adjusted to fit the deformed frame, additional adjustment will not help. First you need to redo the structure itself.

Types of additional strips for interior doors

Regular. They look like simple slats, pre-laminated and then covered with veneer. They differ in type and color of decoration. The width of such an extension can be 10, 11, 15 or 20 cm.

Telescopic. Another name is typesetting. With their help, it is possible to expand the opening in almost any wall; they have a width of 9, 12 and 15 cm. These extensions are similar to a carriage rail: on one side they have a ridge, and on the other - a groove, with which they are easily attached to doors without nails. For installation, just one glue is enough.

Attention! Telescopic extensions are more expensive than regular ones, but they receive a lot of positive reviews.

Combined. They perform the functional tasks of the platband and regular extensions, and look like a decorative corner. Such products are mounted on a door frame, at the ends of which there are deep recesses. You need to insert extra into them.

Attention! Combined extensions are designed to expand the box within 2-5 cm and are only suitable for walls of small thickness.

How to choose an accessory: material, sizes

Often, for the manufacture of extensions, edged or tongue-and-groove boards are used, which have a groove for better and more convenient installation. In addition to wood, additional planks are made from veneer, MDF, chipboard, plastic, laminate. If the width of the wall is too large, it is better to opt for waterproof plywood. It is also recommended to install it in rooms with high humidity, for example, in the bathroom.

Extensions come with or without edges. In the first case, the end of the plank has the same coating as the entire part. Most often these are products in the production of which laminate, laminate, and PVC are involved. Veneered products are mainly produced without edges. The thin section of wood, called veneer, is brittle and inelastic. Therefore, it is almost impossible to bend it at an angle of 90° without breaking it.

Please note that the additional profile used in glazed loggias is not suitable for the door. Factory products have standard dimensions:

  • height – 2 m;
  • thickness – 0.5-2 cm;
  • width – 7-40 cm.

A part whose thickness is at least 1 cm is considered especially high quality. As for the width, 10 cm is usually enough. Even if you take several of these planks, it will not be difficult to install them by joining each other, and the finished structure looks aesthetically pleasing and neat. A profile with a large width is most often used not for interior doors, but for entrance doors.

Before buying an additional plank, take all measurements: by inviting a specialist or yourself. It is worth determining the dimensions after the main structure has already been installed. The width of the extension you need is the figure obtained after subtracting the width of the box from the wall thickness. It is better to add 1-2 cm to the result obtained so as not to make a mistake. Since the walls in many houses and apartments are often not perfectly smooth, measure the thickness of the opening in at least 4 places. Focus on the maximum indicator.

Advice. To furnish a country house, you can purchase a door with a frame that has a blank for additional installation of the extension - a grooved quarter.

Do-it-yourself addition and installation. Instructions

Stages of installation of a conventional additional strip:

  1. Install the main interior structure in the doorway and wait until the foam dries.
  2. If the box has a special recess for collecting, clean it thoroughly. If there is no such recess, free up space behind the door frame. The width of this area should be 1.5-2 cm, depth - 1-2 cm.
  3. Start installing the extension by cutting the top strip. First, adjust its size in length (even if it protrudes slightly beyond the boundaries of the box), and then in width. To do this, insert the extension into place, but inside out. Using the wall as a guide, make 2 marks. Pull out the strip, connect the marked points with a line and cut with an electric jigsaw.
  4. Cut the side strips in the same way. Pay special attention to their length: there should not be a single gap between all the slats. The top panel should be in a strictly horizontal position on the side slats (you can use a level to check). Once you are sure that this is the case, proceed to fasten the product.
  5. To prevent gaps, wedge the panel between the frame and the doorway. For this, use wooden wedges, dried and compressed foam, or cardboard folded several times.
  6. Check how the horizontal and vertical planks fit together and how evenly they are installed. Pay special attention to the lower segment of the side panels.
  7. Secure the width strips on both sides along the width. After the foam has hardened, fill the remaining space. When the mixture has completely dried, begin installing the platbands.

Stages of installation of a telescopic extension almost the same. The difference lies in how the individual planks are connected to each other using the extension method.

  1. The first rail should be installed in the doorway first.
  2. Having secured it securely, fasten the second row.

Experts warn that it is impossible to install a completely assembled structure: there is a high probability that the connection of the plates will be broken. This mainly applies to sets of 3 strips and more. You can handle two telescopic rails by installing them at the same time. However, this requires considerable experience and a large number of spacers.

Installation of combined accessories quite simple because they do not need to be strengthened additionally. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Insert the strips into the grooves of the door frame.
  2. Carefully adjust the corners - first of all on the horizontal trim, and then on the side ones, but only from the bottom side. If you do this at the top, you can damage the special groove that ensures a tight connection between the side planks and the horizontal one.

Advice. Recommendations for the separate installation of first the box and then the planks are relevant for narrow extensions. If you do not have sufficient skills for such work or are installing a wide strip, first assemble the box, attach the extension to it, and then place the entire structure in the doorway.

To attach additional slats to the interior door frame, you can use liquid nails or self-tapping screws. If you are connecting these parts from the outside, select plugs for the screw heads that match the tone of the entire structure. A correctly installed extension does not limit the opening angle of the door, and the interior design looks neat.

How to install extensions correctly: video

Not everyone can imagine what extensions installed on interior doors are. Meanwhile, these elements give the door a finished look. Their installation is not difficult and can be done with your own hands, especially after watching a video with detailed explanations and photos.

What are extras

Visually, they look like horizontal and vertical planks with different textures and sizes. They are installed between the door frame and the platbands, either with your own hands or with the help of specialists.

Additional strips have not only a functional value - strengthening the door frame, but also an aesthetic one - they mask defects on slopes. The materials used for their manufacture are:

  • board - most often coniferous;
  • Fibreboard, MDF, chipboard, laminated or veneered.

An industrial additional board is a frame made of wood with thin MDF sheets attached to it, which have honeycombs inside, which makes them lightweight, making installation easier. The covering of the extensions matches the color of the door frame and the door itself.

What types of extensions are there for interior doors?

There are planks on sale in a variety of sizes - from 7 to 40 cm. All extensions are divided into 2 main types. They are:

Advice: if you need to install extensions on a previously installed interior door, add attachment elements that fit closely to the frame and those that are slipped under it - linings.

How to properly install extensions on doors between rooms

Do-it-yourself additional boards are installed not only when installing a new door, but also on existing doors. The easiest way to attach the extensions is when installing a new structure installed together with the door frame. They must be placed in the form of the letter “P”. The installation procedure is as follows:

  • Stable stools of the same height are placed in a row and the door frame is placed on them, with the inner side being on top.
  • They check whether all angles are equal to 90 degrees, for which they measure the diagonals - their sizes must match.
  • Using a milling cutter, select a groove for the extensions, if it is missing. Its depth and width must correspond to the thickness of the additional strip.

  • A frame is mounted along the contour of the frame under the door, but not solid, but in separate strips of plasterboard or plywood sheet. It is enough to put 2 pieces at the top, and 3 on the sides. It is recommended to fasten plywood with nails, and drywall with self-tapping screws.

  • Cut out the top element according to the size of the upper groove, and the side parts of the extension according to the length of the side parts of the door frame.
  • Lubricate the edges of the groove with assembly glue or liquid nails.
  • Insert the extensions and allow time for the glue to harden.

  • The temporary frame is dismantled, then the door frame is installed.
  • Align the box: adjust the width dimensions using spacers, checking the verticality of the side parts with a plumb line. The horizontality of the top is achieved by installing wedges under the side parts of the box.

  • Seal the cracks with foam and apply a layer of plaster flush with the wall.

  • They install the trim and skirting boards - the installation of the door with extensions is done with your own hands.

Attention! If a quarter is not selected on the box to mount the extension into, then you will have to place it directly on the outline of the box. In this case, the additional strip should be secured with glue, applied in portions every 100-150 mm. As the foam dries and expands, empty spaces will be filled.

Installation of standard simple extensions with self-tapping screws

Do-it-yourself installation is performed in several steps:

No matter what complex operations you have to perform when installing the extensions, the result is worth it. Once you do everything yourself, you will be convinced of this.

Addition to the interior door: photo

First, you need to understand what a supplement is. The additional structure actually looks like an ordinary plank (slat) with a width of 5 cm or more. It is used to continue the door frame (it is a continuation of the door block, it looks like a frame structure mounted on the side of the opening). The addition also helps maintain the integrity of the structure and improves the finish of the doorway.

Let's take a closer look at what it is and what types of frame extensions for interior doors are and how specific they are. It is worth remembering that the door casing has more of a decorative function. This is expressed in the fact that the doors will work without this element, but the structure will look incomplete. It is quite difficult to talk about the choice and variety of this product. The components of the extension strip are of only 2 types - ordinary and telescopic extension.

Let's look a little more closely:

  1. An ordinary panel is a strip covered with veneer, laminated or without any coating at all. In fact, the varieties of this product may differ only in the decorative lining of the material, as well as in width. The width can vary from 95 mm to 190 mm, or even 215 mm. But, if you need to close a 700 mm opening, you won’t be able to get by with additions - the structure will not be strong.
  2. A telescopic extension is a door casing for interior doors. Moreover, with the help of this addition it is possible to line a door opening of any width. And yet, this addition does not look like the usual type of platband, and the manufacturing principle is similar to lining. Telescopic extensions may also differ in appearance and color of material. And the width can also vary.

A telescopic extension is not a platband in the usual sense, but it performs its main functions. Increases the width of the door frame. The increase literally occurs due to the installation of a telescopic casing in a groove, where it can be adjusted by wedging it deeper or immersed to a shallow depth. This compensates for the missing space in the door frame.

The dimensions of the telescopic extension for doors between rooms vary between 95-165 mm.

Extensions can be divided into two types - a standard telescopic door frame and its extended version (so to speak). The standard type - only one corner and nothing more - its main task is to thicken the box within a couple of centimeters. In contrast, the extended version of telescopic types of extensions thickens up to 150 mm. The kit for this type of platbands, as a rule, is added with one more additional component, which has an original slot for the corner trim. Both options cope brilliantly with their direct task, and they differ little from each other.

What is the thickness of the door frame of an interior door

A little earlier there was already an explanation of what a door frame is. When installing interior doors, you need to understand what the installation nuances are. Installation of doors between rooms in an apartment or house is almost the final part of the renovation, which is most often entrusted to professionals, and you need to be serious with additions at this stage.

Let's take a closer look at the types of telescopic trims; based on material and size (these are the few differences), we can distinguish the following classification:

  1. Materials. There is nothing fundamentally new here - everything is very standard. Platbands can be made from wood, chipboard and MDF, coatings can also be varied - laminated, plastic and others. There is no problem in choosing the material. It’s easy to decide - as the doors are, so is the casing.
  2. The dimensions of the telescopic casing are a convention. It all depends on the approach to the matter; it is also worth remembering that the wider the platband, the more expensive it is.

Let’s define what the thickness of a door frame, or in other words, a doorway, is. The door frame has several parameters: height, width, depth, length, including thickness. The manufacturer always takes the standard thickness of typical walls as a basis; in most cases it is about 75 mm. This information should be taken into account when selecting interior doors.

If you do not take these parameters into account, then installation work and fastening the opening will cause difficulties.

The good news is that there are currently standards, including for the sizes and parameters of doorways. All that remains is to carry out a competent approach to the choice of material and design itself, as well as calculate the optimal dimensions. All these steps will help you choose an interior door that will last a long time and will please the residents of the house with its aesthetic appearance. It will also be a safe interior item.

Determining the size of door panels

Let's move directly to the key points in installing door panels. It is worth remembering that the door installation technology also includes the installation of the door block and accessories, so preparation is necessary.

The main thing in any work will be to remove previously used materials (such as foam when installing the unit).

Next comes the main work - adjusting the strip, which is cut to the required length. Later comes the adjustment in width. The installation of the slats comes from the top, then the side slats are adjusted, and they are correctly fastened to the box.

Installation can occur in several ways and with different installation methods (more precisely, means and tools):

  1. The simplest one is to screw the slats to the door frame with self-tapping screws.
  2. Another option is installation with dowels and nails. But this method can still cause difficulties, since in the process there is a possibility that you will have to use foam for a more durable fastening.
  3. The last method is installation only on polyurethane foam. But this method also has its limitations and is only suitable for those options where the thickness of the box is small.

It is worth noting that the telescopic extension is installed in almost the same way as a regular one. The only difference is in the technology for connecting individual planks.

Do I need an extension for the door frame?

It's no secret that in a house or apartment, doors, and therefore door frames, have different parameters and their characteristics (bathroom doors are less wide than interior doors, and even more so, entrance doors should be considered the widest). Therefore, there are standards and their size ranges. When measuring the width of a door frame, you should measure the width of the doorway itself, measure the width of the door frame, and also do not forget about the width of the door leaf. All these parameters must be taken into account.

No matter how beautiful and convenient the extensions are, their installation is not always required. Note that extensions are installed in cases where the width of the box is much smaller than the width of the cut of the wall opening and to frame the doorway.

Selection rules: additions to interior doors (video)

You can always consider a simpler option and not install extensions on the door. Thus, you need to evaluate and make a decision in accordance with whether additional fees are needed in this case.
