The story of Microsoft's exclusive long-term construction project - Crackdown 3 - is gradually turning into a complete embarrassment. It looks like the total destruction of everything, for which the Gates corporation was developing revolutionary cloud technology, is going to be replaced by Terry Crews. This, of course, is a good actor, and the deodorant is okay, but the exchange is still unequal. Against this background, Gmbox decided to look at which games managed to completely (or at least spectacularly and very effectively) destroy everything even before Crackdown 3.

10. Minecraft

Personal attitude towards Notch’s masterpiece can be whatever you want, but we have to admit the fact that Minecraft has become a pioneer when it comes to total modification of the environment, including the landscape. Arm yourself with a pickaxe and dig to the core of the planet? Build a second Everest from the dumps? Easily. Well, it’s not that easy, but you can do it in a couple of dozen hours. And if you craft several hundred TNT bundles (the main thing is not to publish instructions!) the work will go much faster.

9. Angry Birds

Before becoming one of the main commercial machines of the mobile market, Angry Birds made a small revolution: the developers decided to use the mathematical power of the smartphone, hundreds of times greater than the computers that ran spacecraft“Apollo”, for simulating ideal physics in 2D. Who has ever waited with bated breath whether a swinging heavy beam would crush a pig? - he understands what we mean.

8. Worms

That's where total destruction is in Worms! Fortunately, the game has very flexible settings. Turn off the turn timer and the limit on the number of moves, make the largest teams possible, set the worms to the maximum amount of health, and the explosion radius to the maximum as well. By the middle of the match, the huge flowering island will turn into a piece of sanctioned cheese, and by the end of the carnage, all that will remain is a pathetic piece of land dangling over the ocean.

7. Prototype

The first Prototype is still remembered with nostalgia. Nowadays everyone who is not too lazy is making sandboxes with a 3rd person view and various types destruction. And in those days, what could the adventures of a mutant in New York be compared to? Except with GTA. But the possibilities in Prototype are much richer. Run through cars (cutting them in half), through tanks (also into pieces), cut through helicopters while jumping (you guessed it). At that time, GTA didn't even have hacks to replicate something like this.

6. Rampage

Let's start the time machine and go back to the distant past. Dandy had such a rare cartridge - Rampage. The giant lizard Lizzie and the gorilla George are obvious clones of Godzilla and Kong, but the werewolf Ralph (also 20 meters in height) is already the fantasy of the authors. Concrete is cracking, windows are breaking, buildings are crumbling: as a child, against the backdrop of the unshakable levels of Castlevania, this seemed like the ultimate in destructive dreams.

5. Scorched Earth

And a little more Oldfagof tediousness before moving on to the modern era. Before Worms, before Angry Birds, and even before Rampage, there was such a game on PC - Scorched Earth. In this artillery competition, even the landscape itself became the enemy, because (unlike the “Worms”) it did not disappear, but crumbled, and the opponent’s howitzer could always be buried under tons of rock. Well, for landscape design Scorch had a variety of tools, from napalm and bouncing bombs to mud cannons and nuclear missiles.

4. Rainbow Six: Siege

Rainbow Six: Siege has wonderful American architecture, in which the main building material is plywood, it goes sideways to the defenders of strategic points. You can even strengthen all the walls with armor plates, but this will not be a panacea: the attackers will easily break through the thin ceiling and drop a smoke bomb or something worse into the hole. Basically, any mansion in Rainbow Six can be turned into a sieve, and that's great.

3.Battlefield

Plywood and small arms don't go well together, but when it comes to large-caliber tank guns, even good-quality brickwork And concrete slabs turn into plywood sheets. And there are more than enough tanks in Battlefield: this is not CoD, in which the only equipment is an “unmanned enemy reconnaissance vehicle” (the accent turned out to be Belarusian, but the localizers wanted to portray Pakistani terrorists). Only in Battlefield can you be in a reliable shelter, and 10 seconds later you are already in smoking ruins with your last unit of health.

2. Red Faction

Breaking is not building. Build - don't break!? Unlike Battlefield and real life, in Red Faction folk wisdom works both ways. Martian communists, banned in Germany, can level a government checkpoint to the ground in no time, and then just as quickly restore it with the help of a special construction device. The twisted scrap metal is straightened out and turned back into walls, stairs, fortifications - for the benefit of the miners' revolution.

1. Just Cause

In Just Cause you cannot destroy all buildings, the landscape is not deformed, and the set of destructible objects is quite limited - they are marked with a red and silver color. However, what destruction there is is done in impeccable style. The explosions are drawn perfectly, while even the most impressive ones have a modest shock wave - 5 meters. Thanks to this, you can get out of the most intense detonations like a real macho badass: slowly, without looking back. Only behind Rico’s back will be not just another seduced housewife, but dozens of explosions. Against the background of the current beautiful “summer”, such expression and pressure instills real warmth in a frozen heart.

We present to your attention the results of the September TOP-10 rating from site users. We've been trying to pick the top ten games with the best destructibility all month. We have received the results, we have compiled the top ten - start analyzing!

Mercenaries 2: World In Flames (229 votes)

In tenth place is a shooter released in 2008. This game was notable solely for its destructibility. In the role of a harsh mercenary, you earned money in hot Venezuela, simultaneously destroying this same Venezuela brick by brick. If desired, in Mercenaries 2 you could raze almost an entire city to the ground. And this is very good, because the rest of the game was very so-so. But large-scale explosions and the ability to bring down the ceiling on the heads of unfortunate enemies did their job - the game was really remembered as a sandbox where you can ride cars and everything goes boom.

Operation Silent Storm (246 votes)

Ninth place was taken by the excellent tactical game released by Nival in 2003. Silent Storm was almost the first game of its kind in which you could see simply amazing physics of destruction. Anything could be smashed to hell. Want to make yourself a passage in the wall? Easily. They wanted to shoot the enemies sitting in next room for wooden wall? No problem. The landscape on the battlefield was constantly changing and, most importantly, artificial intelligence knew his way around such dynamic locations very well. The destructibility in this game constantly created new, unique situations, leading to real delight.

Quite unexpectedly, the shooter came in eighth place. Probably everyone has played it. Destructibility was indeed present here. For example, it was possible to break wooden houses. For example, driving through them in a jeep. Or, as an option, start cutting down trees using a stationary machine gun. The trees fell very naturally and beautifully. In principle, the developers demonstrated this feature with particular pride. Well, the physics and destructibility in Crysis were quite good, although many of the buildings were completely non-interactive - it was impossible to even scratch them.

In seventh place is an arcade race. This game is also remembered by many for its destructibility. The developers did not skimp and scattered a whole bunch of interactive elements on the race tracks that could be smashed by driving into them at high speed. In principle, this is what the game was built on - the more you destroyed, the more successful you became. The second FlatOut had it all: huge explosions, breaking cars and the ability to drive through the ground floor of the real one. shopping center. Well, isn't this wonderful? Oh, and there you could fly through windshield. Lovely!

Just Cause 2 (452 votes)

She took sixth place. Well, it really was destructible, although the game was rather captivating with its wild tricks and heightened entertainment value of what was happening. It was possible to colorfully blow up a variety of vehicles. Well, or just detonating explosives is also beautiful. But you wouldn’t be able to wipe out cities from the face of the earth, no matter how much you wanted to. You can throw explosives at them and create a wild inferno, but after the smoke clears, almost everything will remain in its place. But in the third part, as the developers promise, it will be possible to break much more.

Series “Behind Enemy Lines” (566 votes)

In fifth place we have a series of strategies, the feature of which was not only the emphasis on micromanagement of units, but also on destruction. After all, there is nothing cooler than shooting some hut with enemies from a tank. There are already few good strategies about the Second World War, and those that would still have competent destructibility can be counted on one hand. Agree: it’s so nice when you can not send your heavy tank around, but simply launch it straight through the house, leaving only a pile of rubble. In this series, destructibility was truly not just for the sake of beauty, but made a lot of sense.

We unexpectedly found ourselves in fourth place. Why not? If you think about it, you can destroy everything in this game. That is, if you want, you can really, in a sense, break everything: the earth, rocks, stones - even sand can be broken. Plus, Minecraft has explosives that can be used to destroy entire islands. Well, if you don’t have explosives, you can do it with your hands. So we definitely wouldn’t write Minecraft off. Although fourth place is perhaps a little too much. What do you think?

Battlefield Bad Company 2 (916 votes)

The first three are opened by a game that is rightfully considered the most interactive in the entire Battlefield series. It was here that honest destructibility appeared, which could be enjoyed not only in the single-player campaign, but also in multiplayer. And multiplayer is the most important thing! Now no one could hide from the guns of your tank in a brick house - you could easily shoot this house and smoke your enemy out of it. Entire squads died under falling roofs, and by the end of the round, maps turned into smoking ruins. It was just wonderful. Bad Company 2 is still very playable today.

Red Faction: Guerilla (2288 votes)

The first place is an action game in which everything could be destroyed. Absolutely all artificial buildings on the map. Entirely and completely. The game was full of a bunch of shortcomings, but they still took it just to see what the total destructibility of the environment looks like. Moreover, in Red Faction: Guerilla, all the destruction was not entirely scripted. Any building could be brought down by the most in different ways, and it slowly fell, falling apart and following the basic laws of physics. In truth, you could just give up on everything, take a sledgehammer and explosives and go for a walk on Mars, destroying everything that comes along the way. Red Faction: Guerilla is essentially the only game that gives you such opportunities.

For October, we're counting down the ten saddest moments in gaming history. It is already available on our forum, in which each of you can propose your own options for subsequent voting. We remind you: the choice is up to you.

Today I will show you 5 games in which the emphasis is on destruction various game objects.
Everything here looks extremely spectacular and practically follows the real laws of physics.

5th PLACE

Mercenaries 2: World In Flames

A game in which you are asked to literally raze an entire city to the ground. So why 5th place? Everything is due to the fact that all the destruction is tied to scripts. That is, for example, you need to fire 3 shells from a tank at a building, then part of the building will collapse. Be that as it may, everything looks quite spectacular. For such scripted but spectacular destructibility, 5th place.

4TH PLACE

Cellfactor: Revolution

A first-person shooter that was literally ahead of its time. The game is a demonstration PhysX from the company NVIDIA. Cellfactor: Revolution was released in 2007 with PhysX support, the game was very resource-demanding at that time, so it was forgotten. Now every video card from NVIDIA, but then only a few had such video cards. The same few could play the game comfortably. However, there was nothing outstanding in the shooter other than the destructibility of game objects.

3rd PLACE

Medieval Engineers

Medieval Engineers- a game in which destructibility is not initially a key aspect of the game. At the moment, the system for destroying game objects needs significant improvement, or rather the physics. Objects in the air and various bugs, both visual and technical, are visible.

Then why 3rd place? Despite various bugs, the game already has pretty good destructibility, which struggles to use physics, and it must be said that the game does it quite well. A pile of rubble remains at the site of destruction; a building or wall falls if supports are destroyed, etc. All this only has a positive effect on the overall background, which is why 3rd place.

2nd PLACE

Detonate

Destruction is the only thing you can do in Detonate. There's nothing else in the game. There is an editor in which you can create your own buildings, which can later be blown up, set on fire, or launched at them with a giant ball. Destructibility, although it looks rather clumsy and does everything to save your computer’s resources, is very spectacular. This can be especially noticeable on multi-story buildings; all buildings fall and collapse according to all Newton’s laws. For such clumsy but spectacular destructibility, 2nd place in our TOP.

BETWEEN 2 AND 1

Demolition Company

Demolition Company- a game in which destruction is the main goal of the game. You will have to work for the builder, starting your career with a crowbar in your hands and ending with a C4 box and powerful equipment, for example, driving a bulldozer. We have to break, destroy, collect debris and more, getting money for it and purchasing new equipment and technology.

We will destroy everything with maximum realism, so you need to work wisely with supports and not damage unnecessary things. If a piece of wall falls onto the roadway, the construction campaign will not pay for such work well. At each new level, a new task awaits the player.

1st PLACE

Red Faction: Guerilla

It’s difficult to say in 3 words why I took 1st place, but it’s worth a try. This game combines wonderful open world, which can be destroyed, an interesting plot, multiplayer, which is also tied to destruction, and unparalleled destructibility, all buildings collapse only and only according to earthly physics. It is enough to break the supports and the building will collapse.

There are many different weapons with which we have to carry out total destruction. In addition to all of the above, we can see beautiful industrial landscapes.

Well, I think it’s clear why the game received 1st place. And for first place the game gets our main prize... "Nothing"

Good luck to everyone, bye everyone!
