Sew a soft armchair bag by hand. Our DIY bean bag chair master class is understandable to everyone. Step-by-step master class on sewing a chair

Well, anyway, the price for such a device made me overly pleased (the most simple model about 5000 rubles), and also the fact that the choice didn’t really correspond to what I wanted.. I decided to make it myself;) After digging around, I again found an approximate pattern on the net.. I don’t claim authorship.. Yes, I did it a little wrong.

Materials:
1m of black dermantine-180r
2m of white dermantine-280r*2=560
3m Chintz - nothing (old sheets)
Threads - I don’t remember, they were lying around for a long time  take a 12p spool
Zipper 2 pcs. 50 cm-25 rubles 1 piece, the second is nothing (old)
Construction tape roll-45r
Filler:
2 foam plastic slabs 5 cm (90 * 2 = 180) and 4 fragments approximately equal to 5 cm (210)

Calculation: 180+560+180+210+25+45+12~1212r

The material was purchased at a hardware store (dermantin in two colors) I started making the pattern
big soccer ball

I apologize for the quality of the photo... Sonya was covered up literally a week later... and apparently this was a warning sign, I photographed my cell phone very poorly.

I’ll tell you right now that I’m not a tailor ;)

Then I started combining...if you have never sewn a ball yourself in your life, make a model using paper and a stapler (I did this myself). According to the advice of people on the net... it’s very difficult to sew a ball for the first time... well, it’s not the gods who burn the pots :)

I think it’s clear what’s what. I reinforce the seam with high-quality tape;) So to speak, high-tech, rustic bottling. In original products, the seam is double and the threads are of better quality.

The ball I liked had 12 pentagons (black) and 20 pentagons (white)
Connected triple blanks in this form

This will be half of the ball. The second must be assembled in a mirror manner. This is why you need to train on cats... in the sense of creating a paper model

I’m breaking polystyrene in a bag, I couldn’t buy it already crushed, for some reason it wasn’t everywhere, summer is the time for repairs.

The outer cover is already ready before filling. The inner bag for the filler was created parallel to the outer one with identical dimensions (also a ball). It must be taken into account that if the outer cover slides, then it is advisable to make the inner one braking. Accordingly, if the outer one is fleecy, the inner one slides. This should be done for for your convenience in the same polystyrene filling.
I filled the inner bag halfway with fragments of polystyrene foam and carefully loaded it through the hole with a zipper into the outer case, there I already loaded the second half of the foam plastic. Keep in mind that at home you don’t just need to break the foam plastic... the whole room will be like New Year’s, you will be tortured by vacuuming (although you will have to do it anyway)

This is roughly what happened.

Oh yes .. one more nuance .. in the “original” beanbag chairs there are holes for ventilation (sharp release of excess air in the event of someone or something falling on it) They are typical for products made of leather and dermantine, as well as materials with poor permeability air. I didn’t foresee them and the result was not long in coming (my brother arrived ;))

Fortunately, I still had some leftover material and the chair I loved was brought back to life.
But I think such flaws still need to be taken into account.
Over the past year, a sheet of polystyrene foam 10 cm thick was purchased to replenish the sagging internal filler.

DIY pouf bag

Frameless furniture was invented in Italy relatively recently. Soft poufs-bags were liked by fans creative solutions in the interior and unusual style. Even though beanbags or bean bags have entered mass production, you can sew them at home. Do you want to bring comfort, brightness and modern design? Read in this article detailed instructions on how to make a pouf bag.

Materials for making a pouffe-bag:

- sewing machine;

- fabric for lining and cover;

- padding polyester;

- scissors;

- paper or wallpaper for the pattern;

— decorative items (ribbons, beads, felt).

1) First you need to decide on the size of the finished pouf. On wide paper we draw a pattern: four side parts and two circles. For the lining, it is best to use white cotton fabric, as it will not be see-through and is convenient to work with.

2) Attach the pattern to the fabric and cut along the contour. Connect the 2 side parts and sew them on one side. Repeat the same with the other two sides. If you have a serger, finish the seams to make the pouf more durable.

3) Now sew the side parts together. When you get to last side, do not forget to leave a hole for the filler.

4) Work only from the wrong side. Secure the top and bottom round parts.

5) Turn the workpiece out through the left side hole. Thus, all the seams turned out neat on the front side.

6) Fill the pouf with padding polyester through the side hole. Please note that over time the filler will shrink and will not be as voluminous.

7) Sew the hole. Don't worry if the seam isn't quite perfect. It will not be visible under the cover.

8) Using the same pattern, but a couple of centimeters, sew a cover made of pleasant and dense fabric. Additionally, you can make a rectangular handle.

9) The pouf bag is ready!

Sewing a pouf bag yourself is much more profitable than buying it. Using only 2-4 meters of fabric and filling, you can make a unique piece of furniture that will become a decoration and a comfortable place to relax. As a filler, you can use not only synthetic polyester, but also PVC granules, buckwheat husks, beans, fluff or other environmentally friendly substances.

The pouf-bag will look great in the interior of a nursery or living room. Fill your home bright colors and creativity with our website and!

The mattress that everyone knows today is the idea of talented Italian designers Francisco Teodoro, Cesare Paolini and Piero Gatti. Now this designer chair has become widely known in all corners of the world. Until now, it does not have an exact name - bean bag chair, pear chair, pouf, bean bag. Nevertheless, the essence remains the same - this is comfortable frameless furniture with soft filling, which even a novice seamstress can easily make with her own hands.

What are the benefits of frameless furniture?

A feature of this type of furniture is the absence of a rigid frame. The classic variation has the shape of a drop (pear). The chair is a bag with soft loose filling that imitates liquid. An effect is created similar to that if the inner cover was filled with water - the chair takes the shape of the human body and evenly distributes its weight.

After just two minutes of rest in such a chair, you can feel the relaxation of the back muscles and the removal of stress from the spine. Due to the low thermal conductivity of the filler - foam balls - an additional warming effect begins to be felt very quickly. Polystyrene foam works as a heat reflector and warms the person sitting with the energy of his own body.

Traditional frameless chair has a pear shape

Today, frameless furniture designers are constantly searching for new solutions. There are already models on sale not only of the most different sizes(for a child, for one or more adults), but also in shapes (drop-shaped, round, rectangular, in the form of fantasy figures). The most active child can easily warm up and fall asleep in a bean bag chair, not to mention a mother who is tired of everyday chores. Therefore, the desire to have such an accessory for relaxation at home is quite understandable. However, there is no need to rush to the store to buy it. Even novice craftswomen can sew a bean bag chair.

The main advantages of a bean bag chair include the following aspects:

  1. Loose filler increases the level of rest comfort.
  2. Frameless furniture is safe because it does not have sharp corners, which allows it to be used in children's rooms. And environmentally clean materials reduce the likelihood of allergies to zero.
  3. The chair is very practical; thanks to its light weight, it can be easily moved during cleaning.
  4. To maintain cleanliness, periodic washing of the removable cover is sufficient.
  5. A bean bag will fit into any interior; all you need to do is choose the right design.

Important! If you are planning a renovation and a change of design, do not rush to throw away your old bean bag chair - just add some filling to it, sew a suitable cover, and it will become the highlight of the new interior.

Tools and materials

Footage required material and the amount of filler varies depending on the dimensions of the intended bean bag.

In order to sew a medium-sized chair with a diameter of approximately 85 cm (for 1 adult), you will need:

1. Paper for making patterns, tracing paper or graph paper is best.
2. Fabric for sewing the inner cover - smooth synthetic. The length of the cut is 3 meters with a width of 150 cm. It is better to take a light material without a print so that it does not show through the outer cover.

It is better to choose a sliding fabric so that the chair better takes the shape of the person sitting.

3. Thick (preferably furniture) fabric for the outer removable cover. The length of the cut is 320 cm with a width of 150 cm. It should be a little larger so that the inner bag with filling fits easily into it.

When choosing a material, give preference to durable canvases. It is better to choose materials that are dense, resistant to abrasion and frequent washing. It can be linen, denim, tapestry, velor, phlox, faux fur and even eco leather. Select colors in accordance with the overall color scheme interior

4. Two zippers 40 cm and 60 cm long (for the inner and outer cover, respectively).
5. Filler. In this case, we take 0.5 cubic meters of foam plastic with a crumb fraction of approximately 0.5 cm. You can buy it online or at any specialized hardware store.

The minimum packaging of polystyrene foam is usually the 0.5 cubic meters we need. m.

6. Sewing machine, reinforced threads.
7. Chalk or pencil, ruler, pins.

Filler selection

Most often, frameless furniture manufacturers use polystyrene foam granules as filler. Foam balls are considered the most hygienic filler, as they do not absorb dirt, sweat and odors. This is especially true when a bean bag chair is used in public places (cafes, show rooms, lounge areas). Expanded polystyrene is non-hygroscopic, and insects will not grow in it. In addition, this filler is the most affordable.

Expanded polystyrene - best filler for frameless chair

For those who are looking for an environmentally friendly and natural alternative to polystyrene foam, we can advise choosing materials such as:

  • horsehair;
  • wood shavings;
  • seeds, herbs, buckwheat husks;
  • peas, beans and beans, rice, millet;
  • wool, feathers or down.

However, when choosing an organic filler, it is worth considering that such a chair can only be used in a room with moderate humidity. Otherwise, molding may begin.

Important! Feathers and down can cause allergies.

If you decide to use sawdust, pay attention to their quality. Before filling the bag, be sure to inspect the shavings and remove any chips, otherwise you risk getting splinters or scratches. It is better to use cedar shavings. It has a pleasant smell, which is famous healing properties and will repel insects.

It is also necessary to take into account that over time you will need complete replacement or adding an additional portion of filler, as it tends to wrinkle.

Pattern and step-by-step sewing instructions with photos

On the given pattern there are two options for cutting the lower circle of the chair. The first option involves sewing the bottom from two semicircular parts, and the second - from four. You will need to cut out 6 side wedges, 1 top piece (hexagon), 1 handle piece, 2 or 4 bottom pieces from fabric. We will sew the inner and outer covers at the same time.

Sewing order

1. Transfer the pattern details onto paper and cut out.
2. Spread the fabric for sewing the inner cover on the floor (wrong side up). Attach the pattern pieces to the fabric, trace and cut out, leaving a seam allowance of about 1.5 cm.

Try to place the parts as compactly as possible so that there is enough fabric. To do this, think in advance best option layouts.

3. Likewise cut the fabric for the outer cover, leaving an allowance of 3.5 cm.

Place the pattern pieces for the product on the fabric and cut it out sparingly so that you have enough cut

4. Then you need to pin or baste side seams on wedges of internal and external products, all except the last one. You will end up with two flat pieces.
5. Sew the side seams of both covers using a machine and iron them using a steam iron.
6. Turn the outer cover over and topstitch all side seams to the right side.

You can use contrasting threads and decorative stitches for this.

Sew the side seams from the wrong side, and then on the outer cover, additionally stitch them from the front side

7. Now fold the outer wedges on both pieces and baste. On the outer cover, sew the last side seam 40 cm from the top and 40 cm from the bottom (there will be a little more than 40 cm left for sewing in the zipper). Repeat the operation for the inner cover, leaving approximately 35 cm on the zipper. Press the seams.
8. Baste or pin zippers to the remaining unstitched sections on the blanks. The center of the zipper should coincide with the center of the pressed seam; the excess length of the zippers can be freely located at the bottom of the future chair. Sew in zippers. Now both of our products externally resemble a pipe, not correct form, tapering upward.

9. Sew the arm of the chair. Fold the piece in half lengthwise, wrong side out, stitch along the long edge and then turn right side out. Iron.
10. Turn the cover blanks inside out and sew on the tops (hexagons). When basting the top to the outer “pipe”, do not forget to insert the handle.
11. Sew the bottom parts of both covers. Sew the resulting circles. Keep the zippers open to make it comfortable to work with. Turn the finished covers right side out.

The outer cover for a bean bag chair will differ from the inner one in that it has a longer zipper and the presence of a handle.

Filling the filler

  1. Place one product inside another, trying to match all the parts.
  2. Cut off the top and bottom of any plastic bottle to create a wide funnel.
  3. Cut off the corner of the bag with the filling and tape the top edge of the funnel to the resulting hole with tape.
  4. Place the lower part of the funnel in the slightly open inner case and pour polystyrene foam granules into it. Close both zippers.

The funnel method will allow you to quickly and accurately fill the chair with filler.

Important! The filler should occupy approximately 2/3 of the volume of the inner case.

Sort the scraps by color

3. After this, the edges of the parts can be processed using an overlocker, or you can simply topstitch them, leaving them to fray in style.
4. Select a plan for connecting the blanks into a square fabric in random order and sew them together. Make sure that decorative details in the form of pockets and factory stitching remained on the front side. Prepare a canvas of the same size for the inner cover.

Sew a whole fabric according to the planned plan

5. Fold the square of fabric in half with the right side facing inward. Place a straight stitch along the long edge, leaving a 35 cm long section approximately in the middle of the future chair unstitched.
6. Sew a zipper (40 cm) into this section, through which the filler will be poured. Leave the zipper open.
7. With the side seam of the “pipe” on the right, stitch the top edge of the fabric.
8. Now place the side seam in the middle of the “pipe” and stitch the bottom edge. Turn the denim cover right side out through the open zipper.
9. Sew the inner cover with a zipper (20 cm) in the middle using the same principle.
10. Place the inner cover into the outer one and fill the chair with polystyrene foam granules, focusing on the feeling of comfort.

Thanks to the sewn-in zipper, you can reduce or add balls to a comfortable level.

It is recommended to use a mixture natural fabric or polyester material. It is durable, lightweight, water-repellent and soft, with an elastic structure.

For the outer cover, which plays an important decorative and practical role, non-stretch durable fabrics are suitable. It is better to give preference to lint-free material that will not collect wool and dust. For exterior finishing The following materials are used:

  • flock, soft and pleasant to the touch, does not get wet, and is easy to wash;
  • durable cotton with a high content of bamboo fibers;
  • jacquard;
  • oxford, a soft and dense material, is water-resistant, used for making tents, suitable for outdoor use (near water, on sand and grass), does not get wet and dries quickly;

Filler - balls for frameless furniture

The products got their name due to the lack of a rigid frame, which is used in traditional kits. The bean bag chair is a textile cover, 2/3 of which is filled with foam balls. The tightly filled capsule holds its shape well; there is air in the porous structure of the granules and in the space between them. If a person sits in a chair, the grains move easily under pressure and take on shapes that match the curves of the body.

Granular foam is weightless, does not absorb odors and moisture, and insects and fungi will not grow in it. The balls have a diameter of 1-5 mm. The finer the granules, the better the filler; it flattens less and is characterized by a longer absence of shrinkage of the material. Frameless children's upholstered furniture is hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly and will not harm the child's health. The balls are an excellent heat insulator and are not afraid of temperature changes.

In Italy they came up with frameless chairs that have a baggy appearance. In Russia they are called “ottomans”.

Everyone who has seen such a chair and sat in it wants to have it. Such an unusual piece of furniture is quite expensive. But many housewives can sew a bag chair with their own hands at home. To do this you need to have the desire and some free time.

Type of chair - pear

There are several types of beanbag chairs. For example, a frameless chair, which is called a pear because of its shape. It is filled with polystyrene balls. How to sew a bean bag chair of this shape? To complete this work you will need:

A frameless chair is called a “pear” due to the fact that it resembles a pear in appearance.

  1. Smooth, breathable fabric. The inner cover of the bean bag chair is sewn from it. You can use a duvet cover.
  2. Fabric for sewing the outer cover. It can be thermal jacquard or other furniture fabric. Optimal size– 1.5x3.5 m. It should be quite dense, the color can be any.
  3. Zippers in the amount of 2 pcs. For an internal cover, a length of 30-50 cm is sufficient, for an external one – about 100 cm.
  4. Strong sewing threads, preferably synthetic.
  5. Scissors for cutting fabric.
  6. Pattern paper. Experienced craftsmen can make a pattern directly on the fabric.
  7. Sewing machine.
  8. Filling in the form of polystyrene foam balls. You will need about 0.3 m³.

Sequence of actions

Work process:

  1. You need to cut out the details of the outer and inner cover: side wedges - 6 pieces; hexagon base with a side of 40 cm - 1 piece; a hexagon for the top of the chair, its side is 10 cm; rectangle 5x12 cm - carrying handle. To sew the inner cover of a bean bag chair, you need the same parts, except for the handle.
  2. Loose fabric should be processed with a zigzag or using an overlocker.
  3. Fold the 2 side wedges right sides together and sew along long side 15 cm below and above.
  4. Sew in a zipper.
  5. Sew on the next wedges, iron the seams.
  6. Fold the handle part in half lengthwise, stitch and turn inside out. Iron. The seam should be in the middle of the part.
  7. Sew on the top hexagon, sewing in a carrying handle.
  8. Open the zipper and sew the bottom hexagon.
  9. Connect and stitch the parts of the inner cover in the same way.
  10. Fill the inner case with balls to 2/3 of the volume. This is not very easy to do. The balls are very light and tend to scatter around the room. It is recommended to do this: from plastic bottle cut off the bottom and neck. Place the ends into the hole formed by the slightly open zipper and the cutout in the bag of granules. Can be additionally attached with tape. Pour the contents of the bag containing the filler into the chair cover. You can try other ways: take a piece of thick paper, rolled up in a bag, plastic or metal pipe from a vacuum cleaner.
  11. Put on the outer cover. The DIY bag chair is ready. You can fall apart in it or curl up into a ball. Have a nice holiday!

Little tricks

You can use beans to stuff a frameless chair.

  1. Some craftswomen fill a frameless chair with beans and peanuts.
  2. A very durable inner cover is made from muslin. You can use satin, teak, calico. It is better to choose white color so that it does not show through the outer cover.
