A broken bed is not a reason to run to the store, especially if you have beams and screws at home. With the help of simple materials, anyone can make a double bed with their own hands, and personal preferences and wishes will serve as a guide.

The original bed will exactly match the required size, height and weight of the owner, and will also fit perfectly into overall design interior

The base is wood

The bed frame can be made of iron or wood. And if the first option requires special skills in working with iron and hard-to-find materials in the form profile pipes, then every business person will have beams along with the ability to operate a screwdriver and tighten screws.

The assembly of such furniture will take no more than 10 days, and only safe and quality materials: self-tapping screws, sheet plywood, MDF panel, metal corners, PVA glue, beams and dowels.

Some recommendations will help you competently and quickly assemble a strong and stable bed:

  • It is better to give preference to a smooth beam on laminated pine about 200 cm long;
  • It is recommended to compare the dimensions of the future frame with a pre-purchased mattress;
  • To complement the design of the drawers, you should purchase chipboard sheets;
  • Self-tapping screws and other fasteners are purchased with a reserve;
  • There should be no roughness at the base of the bends of metal corners, indicating poor quality.

Let's start assembling

Once everything you need is ready, you can start assembling the bed. The algorithm below will serve as the diagram for making the components of a bed with your own hands.

Frame and stiffeners

The first step is to make a rectangular frame, each side of which consists of three beams fastened in height. Next, the following manipulations are necessary:

  • A beam measuring 4x5 cm is sawn into 4 parts: two 16 cm each and two 21 cm each, which are laid out on the floor along with the frame and secured furniture glue PVA.
  • The second layer is laid parallel to the beams, firmly fixed with self-tapping screws on both sides. Periodically it is necessary to check the evenness of the structure with a tape measure or rope. Any excess glue that appears should be immediately wiped off with a cloth, not allowing it to dry.
  • For the base of the bed, slats with a thickness of at least 3 cm are taken. To increase the load-carrying capacity, a “stiffening rib” is made in the center, running along the bed and having two supports.

Legs and supports

Four supports are needed in each corner. Each leg is made from two pieces of 4x5 cm timber, gluing their seams with PVA, connecting them together with self-tapping screws and attaching them to the main frame. After which the product is turned over and installed on its legs.

Mattress base

Support bars are provided in the bed drawing and depending on suitable option come in various thicknesses, heights and locations. Most often they are equal to the internal length of the frame and are attached at the level of the second row.

To create an optimal orthopedic base, the slats are fixed at a distance of about 20 mm, fixing them at the edges and in the center with two self-tapping screws in each place. Afterwards, the future bed is left to allow the glue to dry.

Sanding and painting

The final treatment consists of sanding the entire surface and thoroughly washing the product. Before painting, a protective wood primer is applied to the perimeter of the structure, and the bed is painted with high-quality wear-resistant varnish in 3-4 layers.

Modernizing standards

One bed is good, but a children’s bed and a bunk bed are even better, especially since making it with your own hands is as easy as a standard model.

Choosing suitable scheme, you can experiment with the dimensions and design: make two beds, place them on the ground floor desk, sofa or cabinets.

Experienced and motivated craftsmen will also be interested in another modern and functional model– bed-podium. In this case, you will have to accurately measure all the dimensions of the room and prepare lumber in strict accordance with the required area.

Mandatory drawers at the bottom of the bed and the side panels hidden by the panels.

If your soul and body require a new bed, then don’t rush to the store. Making this piece of furniture with your own hands is simple and quick, and the final result will directly depend on individual wishes, taste and space.

What should you know before starting work?

Bed size chart.

First of all, decide on the choice of mattress. After all, a bed is made with your own hands to fit a mattress of a certain size. It is better to purchase a mattress before you design the bed itself. Nowadays, mattress manufacturers offer the most different series size of your products, so you risk wasting the lion's share of time, effort and money in search of a suitable mattress, making a bed first.

Pay special attention to the choice of materials for making the bed frame. Don't skimp on materials! Chipboard and fibreboard, of course, are much cheaper than wood, but you risk waking up every morning not fresh and rested, but with a headache, shortness of breath and many other unpleasant sensations, since these materials contain harmful substances(resins). If you still decide to buy more cheap material, then be sure to ask the seller to show you an environmental certificate for the product and read it carefully.

Remember that the pull-out bed should not resonate with the overall appearance and style of the room. Try to think through the project in advance and make all the necessary amendments at this stage. If you don't take care of this, your bedroom interior will undergo significant changes, perhaps not for the better.

A few words about the design of the future bed

Drawings of a pull-out bed.

The easiest way before drawing up a project is to go to several stores and look at sample options in order to determine the requirements for the future bed. It’s better to do this in a store rather than on the Internet, as you can touch the furniture and evaluate its reliability different designs, take pictures of some little things you especially like. You can calculate the required amount of materials very easily by downloading a special program on the Internet, where it is freely available.

Most best material- this is a tree. You can buy an array or furniture panels from different breeds wood: spruce, pine, oak, ash, larch. Shields are much cheaper than solid wood, as they are made of timber. This bed will be safe and easy to use. Important point: before boards are made from the timber, it is dried, so you will be protected from possible future deformations of the bed. The solid wood may not be dried very well, and after 3-4 months of use the bed may become deformed.

How to equip a bed?

Pull-out bed niche.

Using a jigsaw, it is necessary to unravel boards 40 cm wide and process the cut area with an electric planer. Then remove a small radius from one side on the edge of the board, and grind the surface of the boards with a grinder with a sandpaper attachment or a regular one grinder to give shine to the wood. From these boards you will get guides for the backs of furniture. Boards 30 cm wide also need to be unraveled, sawed crosswise and cut in half to make bed legs.

Holes for fastenings are made in advance in the upper part of each future leg. Next, you need to overlap the legs and backrest guides. It is better to do this with glue and screws. After this, the structure (it will look like the letter “P”) must be left for a day in some warm and dry place to dry.

At this time, you need to make guides from the tabletops that will connect the backs of the future bed into a single whole. Then make markings and drill holes for screws at the ends of the boards.

Make blanks for metal corners in advance using a grinder and drill holes for fasteners. Keep in mind that the head of the screw must be “recessed” into the cavity of the angle. Whether or not to paint these blanks is a matter of taste, since they will not be visible anyway. Mark in advance the places where the corners will be inserted into the headboards of the bed and on the end boards, and the metal parts should not protrude beyond the material (wood).

How to assemble the frame?

On inside the backrest needs to be secured with bars on which the plywood will then be installed. It is better to strengthen the frame with an additional beam to prevent sagging of the plywood and mattress. The beam is installed along the entire bed and secured with corners and screws on the end boards.

The plywood must be secured to the guides inside the frame. This will provide not only support to the mattress, but also additional rigidity. Don't forget about ventilation: for this you need to make it in plywood round holes. You can make convenient drawers on wheels in which you can store things. Then you need to connect all the parts with screws and actually lay the mattress on top. If the bed extends, install wheels on the bottom of this part to make it more convenient to operate the bed.

The decoration of the bed depends entirely on your taste preferences and the overall interior of the room. You can simply varnish or paint it, or if you have the skills, you can make a carved headboard, or attach a mirror to the head of the bed. It all depends on your imagination!

So, everything turned out to be not at all difficult and easily accessible even to non-professionals! A DIY bed is easy and practical. Have pleasant dreams in your new place!

Just think about which piece of furniture takes up a huge amount of space in our small-sized homes? Of course it's a bed. Many people prefer to purchase compact folding sofas to save space. But not one of them comfortable sofa will not replace the feeling of relaxation and comfort that you can experience while relaxing in bed.

That is why folding beds, or, as they are also called, lifting beds, have become increasingly popular.

What is a lift bed

What is this lift bed? In essence, this is an ordinary bed, which, when assembled in a vertical position, is placed in a closet or chest of drawers. Currently, furniture manufacturers use the most modern materials, thanks to which such a product will last for many years, and the varied design will help you choose furniture to suit any interior.

This design is called a transformer, because during the day it is an ordinary wardrobe or chest of drawers with shelves, and at night it is a comfortable bed.

Folding furniture can be of two modifications:

  1. Vertical. Characterized by a vertical arrangement sleeping place. This bed model is suitable for people of different heights and weights (can be either a single or a double).
  2. Horizontal. It is distinguished by the longitudinal arrangement of the sleeping bed. Most often used for children's bed models.

Among the features, another factor can be identified, which is the installation of folding beds together with a mattress specially made to fit. Many manufacturers offer a choice of purchasing similar furniture: just a separate bed or a bed with adjacent niches and shelves. Of course, this equipment costs a little more, but it fits well into the interior.

Pros and cons of lift-up beds

Positives:

  • the most important advantage is the huge space savings;
  • the upholstery does not get dusty or dirty;
  • beautiful design solution– economical and elegant.

But there are also certain disadvantages:

  • this is of course high cost similar structures;
  • such a bed will also have to be assembled every day in the morning and laid out in the evening (in general, this option is not for the lazy);
  • there is no way to move it to some other place.

Of course, to save space, you can try to assemble this design with your own hands.

DIY folding bed: step-by-step instructions

Let's consider the main stage of its manufacture:

  1. You need to determine for yourself what kind of bed you need - a vertical or horizontal modification.
  2. Indicate what you will need for the job: frame, lifting mechanism, orthopedic mattress. Select the material from which the bed will be assembled (you can take chipboard, MDF or natural wood). The main thing here is that the selected material suits you in every way. technical specifications, that is, it was durable, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Materials that will be needed for the upcoming work:

  • MDF boards 20 mm thick;
  • plywood 10 mm thick;
  • nails;
  • screws;
  • fastening loops.

Tools:

  • measuring tape;
  • pencil;
  • emery;
  • drills;
  • screwdrivers: Phillips and slotted;
  • corner;
  • saw;
  • grinding angle.

After preliminary preparation Let's proceed directly to the assembly.

  1. The first step is to assemble the frame. It can be in the form of a cabinet or be a separate piece of apartment design. When choosing material for the box, you must remember that in the future you will have to make efforts to lift it along with the bed. Therefore, the wall on which the structure is installed must be concrete in order to withstand the load placed on it.
  2. We attach the box to the wall, based on the upper profile and the axis of rotation of the structure. The thickness of the vertical walls is usually 2.5 centimeters, and the horizontal thickness is from 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters. The box consists of two parts (plinth and shelf for support). Rear wall may not be attached.
  3. All parts are fastened together with self-tapping screws at a distance of 25 centimeters from each other. The frame must be installed on a flat surface.
  4. To make the bed itself, you need to take two side boards, two backs and a headboard. In order to strengthen the mattress on the bed, special belts are used. For all other parts - mounting angles.
  5. The next stage of assembly is attaching the stock to the frame using a lifting mechanism. It is recommended to use a ready-made version with a gas spring. Using it, you can fix this structure in any position. It is also a good idea to attach an additional fastener to prevent the bed from spontaneously opening. The safety strap is attached to the top of the frame, which holds the folding part through a loop.

Horizontal design

The assembly mechanism of this product is similar to the vertical model.

There is a stock box and a lifting mechanism. Their parameters will differ depending on the size of the mattress and the bed itself.

For installation you need:

  • four chipboard parts for the side (1080 × 394 × 19 mm) and internal items(1080 × 265 × 19 mm);
  • two wood panels for the bed cover (2020 × 400 × 19 mm) and the shelf (1010 × 400 × 19 mm);
  • two wood panels for the bottom of the bed (1982 × 390 × 19 mm) and shelves (972 × 390 × 19 mm);
  • two wood panels for decorating a chest of drawers (980 × 310 × 19 mm);
  • two bed guides (2000 mm);
  • cornice (2020 × 992 × 19 mm).

All parts are attached with self-tapping screws. This design is assembled according to the principle of assembling a vertical bed. Side rails 13 cm long are attached along the length of the frame so that the mattress does not move.
