“General” tab - here we select the language (Russian or English).

Then we choose whether we will change the size of the pictures in the document during conversion (check the box in the “Resize” item). If we change the size, then just below in two fields of the form we set the desired width and height of the pictures.

After this, we set up table conversion:

• As it is.
• Contents only.
• To raster (convert tables to images, in this case the table will be displayed exactly as in the source document, but the size of the fb2 document will be larger than when selecting one of the previous items).

Select the option to display the table border:

• As in the source.
• Visible.

Select the font (the icon with three dots to the right of the “Font” inscription, under the selection of the border display option).

And finally, if desired, change the “other” settings: “save links” and “pack in zip”.

After we have finished working with the settings, we can proceed directly to converting the file.

My review of the program.

The program successfully converts text files, but I didn’t like how it works with web pages, although perhaps I did something wrong and you won’t have any problems with it.

The popularity of Any to FB2 converter is gaining momentum every day. Based on XML, Any to FB2 is designed specifically for storing electronic literature, it is compatible with various devices. It is easy to convert books from DOC, TXT to FB2, HTML, RTF and vice versa, the XML structure allows. It is worth considering that most e-book reader programs perfectly recognize the FictionBook format (for example, CoolReader 2). The main feature Any to FB2 is the ability to save book text, cover images and illustrations in one file.

Text in FictionBook format can contain information: about the publication, information about the author, illustrations, text structure. Meanwhile, he does not provide any instructions regarding the external appearance of the document. As a result, you will see a book created depending on the parameters for converting the file to another format and on the settings of the viewer program. Let's imagine that a formatted FB2 book contains lines highlighted as headings, you can use the reader to display them in the required color and more large print. If you need to convert text to HTML, the headings will be given the appropriate tag. In this case, you can set the display parameters for this tag yourself.

It is very convenient when, by adding a file to the FB2 library, you can set background information. Automatically get to the corresponding author section, and the annotation field will be automatically filled in. Today, many electronic libraries (including the Fenzin library) have switched to this format and do not work with other formats. They have the opportunity to automatically convert, download books in TXT or RTF.

Let's look at two main programs for automatically converting books to FB2 format and vice versa.

Any2FB. Allows you to convert an e-book from DOC, HTML, RTF and TXT formats to FB2 converter. Many different settings make working in this format easier. The program is stable and fits easily into Explorer. The console software version can be very useful. Based on it, you can automatically convert your library.

This particular program is worth a try, since it is official from the creator of FictionBook, especially if you speak English well and want to get the most out of this format. Meanwhile, this program is not the final version yet, but only 0.5 beta.

FB2Any. The functionality is the reverse of the previous one. It converts FB2 books to iSilo, LIT, RB, RTF, TXT. In addition, you get an automatic conversion program for file typing.

Despite the fact that the program has an English interface, it is intuitive: you need to select the top format using the "Add files from folder..." or "Add files..." buttons, specify the required book and click "Convert!". You can specify where you want to save the converted documents.

Design and functionality

The intuitive design of the controls allows you to perform the necessary operations simply and quickly. Minor features are included in the top menu. On the main screen there is only an area for adding files and a menu for selecting a result. The possibility of mass conversion is provided. To do this, you need to select the directory with the necessary files and the destination directory.

One of the most popular reading formats that meets the modern needs of readers is FB2. Therefore, the issue of converting e-books of other formats, including PDF, into FB2 becomes relevant.

Unfortunately, most programs for reading PDF and FB2 files, with rare exceptions, do not provide the ability to convert one of these formats to another. For these purposes, first of all, online services or specialized converter programs are used. We will talk about using the latter to convert books from PDF to FB2 in this article.

It must be said right away that for normal PDF to FB2 conversion you should use sources in which the text is already recognized.

Now let's move on to applications that are specifically designed for converting documents of various formats. One of the best such programs is AVS Document Converter

1. Launch AVS Document Converter. To open the source in the central part of the window or on the toolbar, click on the inscription "Add files", or use a combination Ctrl+O.

   

   You can also add through the menu by sequentially clicking on the inscriptions "File" And "Add files".



2. The add file window opens. In it, go to the directory where the PDF is located, select it and click "Open".



3. PDF object added to AVS Document Converter. The central part of the program preview window displays its contents. Now we need to specify the format to which the document should be converted. These settings are made in the block "Output Format". Click on the button "In eBook". In the field "File type" from the drop down list select "FB2". After this, to indicate which directory the conversion will be made to, to the right of the field "Output folder" click "Review…".



4. A window opens "Browse folders". In it, you need to go to the directory of the folder in which you want the conversion result to be stored, and select it. After that click "OK".



5. After all the specified settings have been made, to activate the conversion procedure, click "Start!".



6. The PDF to FB2 conversion procedure begins, the progress of which can be observed as a percentage in the central area of ​​AVS Document Converter.



7. After the conversion is completed, a window opens saying that the procedure has been successfully completed. It also prompts you to open the folder with the result. Click on "Rev. folder".



8. After that, after Windows Explorer The directory opens in which the file converted by the program in FB2 format is located.

The main disadvantage of this option is that the AVS Document Converter application is paid. If you use its free option, then a watermark will be applied to the pages of the document resulting from conversion.

Method 3: ABBYY PDF Transformer+

There is a special ABBYY PDF Transformer+ application, which is designed to convert PDF to various formats, including FB2, as well as perform conversion in the opposite direction.

1. Launch ABBYY PDF Transformer+. Open Windows Explorer in the folder in which the PDF file prepared for conversion is located. Select it and, holding down the left mouse button, drag it into the program window.

   

   There is also the possibility of doing things differently. While in ABBYY PDF Transformer+, click on the inscription "Open".



2. The file selection window opens. Navigate to the directory where the PDF is located and select it. Click "Open".



3. After this, the selected document will be opened in ABBYY PDF Transformer+ and displayed in the preview area. Click on the button "Convert to" on the panel. In the list that opens, select "Other formats". In the additional list, click on "FictionBook (FB2)".



4. A small window for conversion options opens. In the field "Name" Enter the title you want to assign to the book. If you want to add an author (this is not required), then click on the button to the right of the field "Authors".



5. The Add Authors window opens. In this window you can fill in the following fields:
   • Middle name;
   • Surname;
   • Nickname.

   But it is not necessary to fill in all fields. If there are several authors, then you can fill in several lines. After the required data has been entered, click "OK".



6. After this, you return to the conversion parameters window. Click on the button "Convert".



7. The conversion process begins. Its progress can be observed using a special indicator, as well as numerical information about how many of the document pages have already been processed.



8. Once the conversion is complete, the save window opens. In it you need to go to the directory where you want to place the converted file and click "Save".



9. After this, the FB2 file will be saved in the specified folder.

Flaw this method The problem is that ABBYY PDF Transformer+ is a paid program. However, there is the possibility of trial use for one month.

Unfortunately, not many programs provide the ability to convert PDF to FB2. First of all, this is due to the fact that these formats use completely different standards and technologies, which complicates the correct conversion procedure. In addition, most well-known converters that support given directions conversions are paid.

I share my own experience in converting Word documents (books or works structured in a certain way) into e-reader formats fb2 And epub. I’ll say right away that directly converting doc to epub is not one of the several dozen tried programs for desired result does not provide: either there are no footnotes, or the content is duplicated, or something else is sure to creep out. And even such a giant as “caliber” does not cope with this competently.

The solution is very simple and at the same time useful - you need to convert the Word document to fb2 format. The usefulness lies in the fact that instead of one popular format for different readers, you get two at once, and plus it’s much easier to edit than the epub format.

Correct formatting of the original documentdoc

So let's begin in more detail understand the transformation process itself. First, you need to make sure that your original text document is designed and formatted appropriately. Few people know and use such useful things in Word as headings, page breaks, footnotes and much more. I give as an example a small document, a supposed book, which is deliberately formatted incorrectly. You can download it by clicking on the screenshot.

The ugly design immediately catches your eye: headings are highlighted only with bold, footnotes are simply marked in italics, and each subsequent chapter proceeds without the slightest break from the previous one. Well, you'll have to format the text properly. First, let's get rid of the extra paragraphs and make the title of each chapter on a new page, and format it exactly as a Title. Enable display of non-printable characters.

Before each chapter, place the cursor and press Ctrl+Enter. The specified keyboard shortcut will create a page break and move our chapter to new leaf. Remove the extra line break before the chapter title. Select the name itself and go to “Styles”. Here you need to select “Heading 1”, after which you can continue formatting the title: align it in the center, change the size and the font itself.

We do this procedure with each chapter. What is this for? Firstly, this is the correct formatting of the text, and secondly, such markup will greatly help later in automatically generating an active (clickable) table of contents on readers.

All that remains is to sort out the footnotes and our future book is almost ready. Let me remind you that now the footnotes are formatted incorrectly, or rather, they are not formatted at all, but are continuous text.

But this is just an easy fix. Place the cursor directly at the end of the text, after which there should be a footnote, and press the key combination Alt+Ctrl+F. A small number will appear next to the text, the footnote number, and at the end of the page (the cursor will move to the right place) you can insert the footnote text itself.

We format all the footnotes in the text in a similar way and this completes the work with the source document. Just in case, I’ll make a reservation once again that we do not set ourselves the goal of preparing the document absolutely correctly, in accordance with GOST, and so on. We formatted it only so that at the next stages we would get the correct books in fb2 and epub format.

In my opinion, the best, most convenient and most correct program for converting a document to fb2 is “FictionBook Tools”. It is the only one of its kind that correctly identifies and formats footnotes in fb2. And her work speed is amazing. So, download the program and install it (or you can use the archive at the end of the article and unpack it to any location on disk). Place our formatted doc file “Correct.doc” in the folder with this program and launch the application “doc2fb.hta”.

Go to settings and check the box “Detect footnotes as”. This is if you have footnotes in the source document. If they are not there, then we have nothing to do in the settings; everything is already set correctly by default.

Click the “Convert” button and wait until a new item “Converted files” appears in the “Journal” just below it.

This way the program lets us know that the conversion process is complete. We look at the folder with the program and find that our book appears there in fb2 format.

In principle, the book can already be opened on electronic readers in this form, but I still propose to edit it a little and make it more correct. To do this, you can use the wonderful FictionBook Editor program, and if you have already eaten more than one dog in this matter, then any text editor. I will consider the editing process through the above program.

So, we launch it (of course, after downloading and installing) and open our book in it. We see that the book is quite readable, and even the cover and footnotes are displayed. But the author and title of the book are clearly missing, and for some reason the epigraph looks like ordinary text. Therefore, we immediately go to code editing mode.

The first thing to do is indicate the genre to which our book belongs. The easiest way to do this is by entering the “Document Description” mode and selecting the appropriate genre from the drop-down list.
