Varieties of paniculate hydrangeas with names. Hydrangea paniculata dwarf variety. Leaves, flowers and inflorescences of paniculata hydrangea

Many of us grow on summer cottages not only fruit and vegetable plants, but also engage in flower breeding - petunias, daffodils, tulips, lilies, clematis. And if you have a desire to add another lush flowering plant to your collection, we recommend that you read our article about paniculata hydrangea.

The natural habitats of this hydrangea are the southern coast of Sakhalin, the islands of Japan and China. There it can reach ten meters in height. It also grows remarkably well in our latitudes and has adapted to both heat and frost. But its height is usually no more than two or three meters. With careful care, the bush adds 25 centimeters per year. Even if some of the shoots are damaged during harsh winters, this hydrangea will quickly recover. The shoots are brown-red, grow straight, sometimes spread out, and from the second year the stems become woody.

This representative of the hydrangea family looks very picturesque from mid-summer to October frosts, when wonderful flowers open in its panicle inflorescences, reaching a length of up to 35 centimeters. They can be of two types:

  • sterile (about three centimeters, do not fall off for a long time);
  • bisexual (they are smaller in size, after pollination occurs, they quickly lose their petals).

The first flowers on paniculate hydrangea appear at the age of three years.

In many varieties of hydrangea paniculata, the color of the petals changes during flowering. They may be creamy at first, then turn pink, and then turn red or green. It happens that there are so many flowers that the branches bend and even break under their weight if supports are not placed in time. The leaves of this plant are bright, large (up to 15 centimeters in length), elliptical in shape, with a pointed tip and small teeth along the edge. They have a pleasant velvety texture and pubescence. The veins are strongly depressed. All branches are abundantly covered with leaf plates located close to each other. The age of these centenarians can reach up to 60 years. Hydrangea can also adapt to unfavorable environmental conditions, for example, if there are increased levels of gas and smoke in the air.

Which hydrangea to choose?

First, we will give the names of varieties of paniculata hydrangea, which have long been successfully grown by gardeners:

  1. "Limelight" - grows like a neat shrub, maintaining its shape even without supports. Height within two meters. In partial shade the flowers have a lime tint. If this plant is constantly exposed to sunlight, the flowers will be white, and in the final stage they will turn slightly pink. In autumn the leaves turn from green to purple. A plant of this variety needs loose soil with an acidic reaction environment, where lime has not been added.
  2. “Kyushu” has a spreading, fan-shaped crown, the height of the plant is about three meters. The white and pink flowers emit a pleasant aroma. The color of the leaf petioles is reddish.
  3. "Matilda" - the height of the plant is within two meters, and the width is about three. During long flowering It is interesting to observe how the color of fragrant flowers changes - from cream to pink-green.
  4. “Grandiflora” pleases with large pyramidal “panicles”, but they bloom a little later than other varieties. At first their color is creamy, then white, later a pink tint appears, but in the fall the color is reddish-green.
  5. "Floribunda" - shoots up to two meters, decorated with creamy-white lush inflorescences. The flowers are large and are on long stalks.

Gradually, other varieties are spreading throughout gardens and parks:

  • "Tardiva" - this three-meter bush blooms from August to October. Looks good in group compositions. At first, the cone-shaped “panicles” are creamy-white, but towards the end of flowering they turn pink-purple.
  • “Vanilla Fries” - by the beginning of autumn, the white-pink inflorescences become crimson, and in October they turn purple, while the top remains white. This wonderful variety was created by Jean Reno, a breeder from France.
  • “Fries Melba” is another unpretentious and frost-resistant “brainchild” of the Frenchman Renault. Strong shoots (up to two meters), supporting large inflorescences without support, where white and crimson colors contrast.
  • "Candelight" is a dense, profusely flowering bush, the height of which is no more than 150 centimeters. Conical inflorescences initially have yellow-green flowers, which then change color to golden-cream, and by October to reddish.
  • "Brussels Lace" - fruiting white flowers are so delicate that the bush is compared to the beauty of a bride. Wine-colored shoots, less than two meters.
  • "Baby Lace" is easy to grow and resistant to powdery mildew. Its height is no more than 120 centimeters. The inflorescences are small (up to 15 centimeters), initially their color is white, then turning into pink tones.
  • "Pink Diamond" - over time, the inflorescences become almost red.
  • “Pinky Winky” - the color of the “panicles” is first white, then pink-red, purple-pink. The stems are strong. In autumn the leaf color turns purple-violet.
  • "Unique" - has fragrant snow-white wide-conical inflorescences that turn pink in the fall.
  • "Diamond Rouge" - the inflorescences are white at first, and cherry-red in the fall.
  • "Silver Dollar" - his landscape designers placed in parks next to others ornamental plants. The inflorescences are greenish-white, turning silvery-pink in autumn.
  • "Mega Pearl" - looks good both on the lawn and in combination with other bushes.
  • “Dolly” - its “height” is just over 150 centimeters; white inflorescences flaunt on strong stems, turning pink by autumn.
  • “Sunday Frize”, translated as “Strawberry Ice Cream”, is a compact bush, no more than a meter in height. The inflorescence consists of sterile greenish-white flowers, then the lower part of the inflorescence changes to a strawberry color.
  • “Weems Red” - on strong shoots, the height of which is up to 180 centimeters, large inflorescences look amazing, some of them are 35 centimeters long. From June to September, you will see them first creamy, then pink, then turning into a deeper pink, and finally wine red.
  • "Bombshell" - the entire dwarf shrub is covered with white flowers.
  • “Bobo” - does not grow more than 70 centimeters in height; already at the end of June the first flowers open on it in dense cone-shaped inflorescences. At first their color is white or with a lemon tint, then pink.
  • “Little Lime” - greenish flowers open on one and a half meter shoots, which turn pink in the fall.
  • “Phantom” - against the background of velvety dark green foliage, large cream inflorescences stand out, in which most of the flowers are sterile. A pink “blush” is noticeable at the ends of the inflorescences.
  • “Polar Bear” is a frost-resistant bush with an abundance of snow-white “panicles”.

Varieties that need a lot of sunlight and moisture: “Unique”, “Levana”, “Diamond Rouge”, “Phantom”, “Diamantino”.

The most suitable varieties of paniculata hydrangea for the Moscow region are: “Bobo”, “Grandiflora”, “Vanilla Fries”, “Pinky Winky”, “Limelight”, “Tardiva”, “Kiushu”, “Polar Bear”, “Mega Pearl”, “ Phantom", "Fries Melba".

It is difficult to single out the best varieties of paniculata hydrangea; they are all good in their own way. Let us only note that the varieties bloom amazingly - “Great Star”, “Vanilla Fries”, “Early Sensation”, “Magical Candle”, “Diamond Rouge”, “Magical Fire”, “Fries Melba”.

Let's start planting paniculata hydrangea

It is very important to choose the right place for the seedling on the site. Some varieties grow well in partial shade, while others need plenty of sun. As for the soil, it should be clay or loamy, but always fertile. Sandy soils are not suitable for hydrangeas. Most hydrangeas require an acidic reaction of the environment, then the color of the flowers will be bright, and a lot of “panicles” will form. To acidify the soil, you can take half-rotted needles (from spruce or pine), brown peat, and sawdust. Dolomite flour, ash, and lime are not used for this crop.

In order to retain moisture under the crown longer, ground covers, for example, sedum and saxifrage, are placed near the hydrangea.

Paniculata hydrangea is planted in open ground in early spring or September. It is still advisable to buy paniculata hydrangea in the spring, then it will take root very quickly and begin to actively grow. This can be done at flower exhibitions, fairs, nurseries, garden stores and centers. When planting this plant in the fall, there is a risk that a rapid cooling will not allow the hydrangea to settle down and take root in its new place. Make the hole for planting paniculate hydrangea wide (at least 70 centimeters in diameter) and deep (about 50 centimeters). Add a portion of fertilizers (mineral or organic) to the hole. Pour a mound of fertile soil and moisten it. When the water is absorbed, spread the roots on the mound, and then fill them with the remaining soil so as not to accidentally deepen the root collar. It should remain level with the surface of the earth. Compact the area under the hydrangea and water generously. If you have several seedlings, it is recommended to leave a distance of 150 centimeters between them (for tall plants) or 70 centimeters (for compact and dwarf forms).

Recommendations for further care of paniculate hydrangea

  1. Water your hydrangea regularly and deeply. If the weather is hot, without precipitation, then at least twice a week. Do not allow the soil under the hydrangea to crack; loosen the soil shallowly after rainfall or watering, while pulling out weeds.
  2. Mulching with pine needles or peat chips will help retain moisture in the soil layer longer.
  3. It is advisable to fertilize every ten days, alternating organic with mineral complexes. Organic matter is diluted slurry or chicken. You can add a little nettle infusion fermented in a bucket to the water for irrigation. IN flower shops They sell special fertilizers intended specifically for hydrangeas, in which all dosages are adjusted. In August all recharges stop. If fertilizing is rare or not done at all, then few inflorescences are formed, and the color of the petals turns out to be faded. To make the color brighter and more expressive, you can use mixtures for hydrangeas created on the basis of alum.
  4. Trimming too important element caring for hydrangea. Let's look at this in more detail.

How to prune paniculate hydrangea?

Annual pruning for paniculata hydrangea is very important, as it helps the bush look lush and bloom profusely. In autumn, it is necessary to cut off all the “panicles”, as well as weak and old shoots, branches, the growth of which is directed towards the inside of the crown. From 10 to 12 of the strongest shoots are left for wintering.

Spring pruning must be done before the buds begin to open. Adult shoots are usually cut to 2-3 buds, and young stems to 3-5 buds. As a result, the bush will gain strength and will produce an abundance of inflorescences by August. In the spring, do not forget to shorten frozen shoots and those that look weak or diseased. For gardeners who do not prune paniculate hydrangea, it may not produce flowers. If your bush is old and you want to rejuvenate it, then cut off all the shoots to form a “stump”. The bush should be restored within two years.

Possible difficulties when growing paniculate hydrangea

It happens that a gardener diligently moisturizes his pet, but the leaves on it still droop, the bush looks lethargic. It is likely that the soil and roots located in its upper layer are overheating under your hydrangea. Be sure to mulch the soil with peat, chopped bark or wood chips.

Another nuisance is yellowing of the foliage on hydrangeas. At the same time, the color of the veins does not change - they are green. These are signs of chlorosis. And it occurs if the soil environment is alkaline. The symptoms will go away when you acidify the soil by feeding the hydrangea with iron sulfate.

There are serious diseases that can disturb hydrangeas that are in the shade or heavily thickened:

  1. Gray rot - it is characterized by rapidly growing brown spots. In inclement, rainy weather, gray mycelium can be seen on such spots; spores of the causative fungus can quickly spread to other crops garden plot. Therefore, immediately, as soon as you notice the listed symptoms, take measures to save the hydrangea and prevent the spread of the disease to other plantings.
  2. Powdery mildew - begins with the appearance of gray coating. Gradually there is more of it, it darkens. Other leaves are also affected, which then wither and leave the hydrangea. If powdery mildew gets on young shoots, then purple spots are noticeable on them, and these parts of the plant die off. Such shoots are unlikely to survive the winter.
  3. White rot - the roots of hydrangea suffer from it, as a result of which it does not receive the necessary nutrition from the soil, withers and may die.
  4. Tracheomycosis wilt - damage begins from the root system. Soon the fungus spreads to the entire vascular system of the plant. Some of the shoots turn yellow and wither, and all this can lead to the death of the bush.

You can try to cope with these diseases with the help of special preparations called fungicides.

What does drying and falling leaves on a bush indicate? First, pay attention to the underside of the sheet plates. A cobweb is a sure indicator that the hydrangea has been invaded spider mites. Actellik is suitable for combating them.

There are other pests on hydrangeas:

  • leaf-eating snails;
  • aphids sucking juices from leaves;
  • bedbugs, pennies, which also suck out vital juices;
  • weevils, leaf beetles, leaf rollers feeding on foliage;
  • root-eating nematodes.

You can try for these pests folk remedies or special insecticides.

How does hydrangea winter?

Now many wonderful varieties have been created that winter well without any shelter. But young seedlings should still be covered with spruce “paws”. If you live in regions where winters are harsh, then it is better to play it safe and cover even mature hydrangea paniculata bushes in the fall.

How can this species be propagated?

There are several possible ways propagation of hydrangea paniculata:

  • seeds;
  • layering;
  • dividing a bush that has grown over the years;
  • cuttings.

Let us immediately warn you that hydrangea has very tiny seeds, their germination rate is low, and the grade may be lost. Such a seedling blooms only after four years. Typically, gardeners resort to cuttings. Cuttings (or pinching off) of hydrangea paniculata cuttings are carried out in June (from the 10th to the 15th) from annual shoots (ripe, at this time buds appear on the plant). If the cuttings were cut in the spring or autumn months, then their rooting is poor. There must be at least three pairs of buds on the cutting. You need to leave a distance of two centimeters from the lower bud, and only then make a cut. On short shoots, the top cuts are not made. But if the shoot is long, then the upper cut should be made so that there remains another five centimeters above the upper bud. Lower leaves must be removed, but it is permissible to leave one or two leaves on the top, cutting them off in the middle. Keep the cuttings in water with a growth stimulant (for example, Heteroauxin) for several hours (or maybe a day). Fill the containers with a mixture of peat and sand. Bury each cutting into the substrate by three centimeters. Cover the cuttings with clear plastic cups. For rooting to be successful, keep the substrate in the container moist. The cups are removed daily to allow the cuttings to be watered and sprinkled. You will notice signs indicating rooting in about a month. For the winter, such containers are moved to a cool room where they will not freeze. Such cuttings can already be transplanted to their designated places in next year, in August. If a small bush tries to produce buds at this time, you will have to cut them off so that the plant does not waste energy on flowering, but uses them to prepare for winter. Such seedlings are covered in the fall; winter hardiness will come to them after flowering (after four years).

This hydrangea is propagated by layering as follows. Next to an adult bush, make a groove 20 centimeters deep. Bend an annual shoot there, first making small cuts in the place where the roots may grow. The layer must be attached to the ground with a bracket. Upper part must stand vertically. Fill the groove so that the top remains uncovered. Water this place periodically. After a year, the grown young growth can be cut off from the adult bush and moved to another place.

If you have already developed good bush, which you want to divide into two or three parts, then dig it up completely in the spring (you can do it at the very beginning of autumn), and then carry out the division. At the same time, several buds should remain on each part, from which renewal will begin.

Landscape designers often combine paniculata and tree hydrangea, creating spectacular compositions. These plants are combined with conifers, lilacs, spirea, irises, peonies, roses, astilbes, mountain weeds, and anemones. In parks and public gardens, hydrangea is alternated with plantings of birch, maple, and willow.

Hydrangea paniculata, photo

is a shrubby plant belonging to the genus Hydrangeaceae. It is of interest to gardeners due to its beautiful lush flowering with large inflorescences of various colors: white, blue, pink, blue. The homeland of hydrangea is China and Southeast Asia. The plant was introduced into cultivation at the end of the 18th century.

Did you know? The name of the genus comes from three words: hydor - water, angor - longing, hortis - garden, translated as “longing for water”. Another version suggests that the source of the name Hydrangeaceae are the words hydor - water and aggeion - vessel. Be that as it may, the name reflects main feature plants - hydrangea is very moisture-loving.

Previously, hydrangea was considered a capricious and whimsical plant, but thanks to the efforts of breeders, species were developed that even a novice gardener can grow without much hassle.

One of them is panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata), which is attractive primarily because it tolerates well low temperatures And long flowering.We will talk about other advantages of paniculata hydrangea and its best varieties in this article.

Paniculate hydrangea is characterized by large and long panicle inflorescences - up to 30 cm in height. The shrub itself can grow from 1 to 10 meters in height. When blooming, the flowers have a greenish-white or creamy-white color, closer to the flowering period they turn pink, and towards the end of flowering they turn red. Flowering period is from June to October. The first flowering occurs four to five years after planting.

Important!It is advisable not to plant hydrangea in close proximity to fruit trees, because then they will fight for water.

The shrub attracted the attention of breeders at the end of the twentieth century. Since then, more than 25 varieties of paniculata hydrangea have been bred, a description of the most interesting varieties presented below.

Grandiflora was one of the first to be bred. It differs in its somewhat late onset of flowering compared to other varieties - it produces flowers in July. Flowering ends in September. Interesting of this variety color of inflorescences. When the shrub just begins to bloom, the flowers on it are creamy-white; during the flowering process they become pure white, then pink, and when they fade, they become greenish-red.

Did you know? By undertaking certain manipulations, you can get flowers of other colors from hydrangea. So, when watering before flowering with a solution of aluminum or ammonia alum, the white sepals of the plant will turn blue, the pink sepals will turn purple. Adding iron to the soil produces a blue color. Also, to obtain a blue color, watering with copper sulfate is used.

Grandiflora's bushes grow large - up to 2 m, with a round, spreading crown. The variety also has beautiful leaves, they are dark green, velvety, pointed. The plant prefers to grow in sunny areas, but can tolerate light partial shade. Paniculate hydrangeas of the Grandiflora variety are resistant to frost; young plants need to be covered for the winter.

IN decorative culture This variety is best used in standard form. It is also used for forcing. If the inflorescences are dried, they are perfect for decorating winter bouquets.

The Kyushu variety can be easily distinguished from other varieties by its dark green glossy leaves with red petioles. It also stands out fragrant flowers. Blooms in mid-July. The flowers are classic white. Flowering ends in September. The shrub grows up to 3 m in height and in diameter. Loves light, but can tolerate partial shade.

In culture it is used in miskborders, Japanese gardens, group plantings and alone.

Did you know? The variety received its name from the Japanese island of Kyushu. There he was discovered in wildlife in 1926, at the same time delivered to Europe.

The Matilda variety is noticeable for its rather tall conical inflorescences (25 cm) and a large bush - up to 1.8-2 m. During the flowering period from July to September, the colors of the flowers change four times - from creamy white to white, then in the fall the flowers become soft pink and end up blooming greenish-red. Survives low temperatures.

Tardiva blooms later than all other varieties. Flowering begins in the second half of August and ends with the onset of frost. Its inflorescences are narrow, conical and pyramidal in shape. The flowers are creamy white, turning pink over time.

In order not to lose their decorative value, it is better to plant Tardiva bushes in open sunny areas. IN winter period young plants require shelter. The older the shrub gets, the more resistant it is to cold.

Important! Hydrangeas will delight you with abundant flowering in the right soil. They prefer loose, moist soils rich in humus. They can grow on acidic, clay and peaty soil. They do not like sandy and calcareous soil.

Tardiva shrubs are used for mixed plantings with perennials, in shrub mixborders. Dried inflorescences are used in bouquets.

Bushes of the Limelight variety reach a maximum height of one and a half meters. The inflorescences of this variety have a pronounced lemon or green tint. At the end of flowering they turn pink. In front gardens, these hydrangeas look beautiful both individually and in group plantings. Together with other shrub plants they are used in mixborders. The inflorescences are suitable for winter bouquets.

The Pinky Winky variety is valued for its strong, elastic stems that can support large, heavy inflorescences 15-20 cm in height without support. The bloom of this hydrangea is a wonderful sight. Just like all hydrangeas, Pinky Winky's inflorescences change color depending on the flowering period - in July they are white, and in September they are dark pink. Since this process occurs unevenly, the inflorescences can be colored differently at the same time: for example, they can be pink at the bottom, light pink in the middle, and white at the tips. And on the bush itself there can be either pure white inflorescences or completely dark pink ones.

The shrub grows up to 2 m in length and width. Its crown is round. Prefers to grow on open areas, but not in direct sunlight. This hydrangea is often planted near the entrance to a house or yard, near gazebos, benches, and as a hedge. Suitable for both single and group plantings.

Another popular variety of paniculata hydrangea is the Vanille Fraise variety. These shrubs reach a height of 2 m and a width of 1.5 m. At the very beginning of flowering, the pyramid inflorescences are white, but they quickly change shade and become deep pink. This variety is photophilous and frost-resistant.

Did you know? Hydrangea paniculata is characterized by good resistance to polluted air. Therefore, it can be planted in city flower beds and along busy highways.

Low-growing varieties have also been bred for Hydrangea paniculata. These, for example, include the Belgian hydrangea Bombshell - it grows only 70-80 cm. At the same time, the shrub blooms profusely. The inflorescences of this hydrangea are round, slightly elongated, 13 cm high. Change color from green-white to pink. During the flowering process and as the inflorescences become heavier, the branches bend downwards, thus forming a spherical crown. The flowering period is very long - from June to mid-autumn.

Plants of this variety can be planted in partial shade. Suitable for container cultivation.

Did you know? Hydrangea is a long-lived shrub. In the literature there is information about plants aged 60 years.

The Presox (Praecox) variety, bred by Japanese breeders, is distinguished by its earliest flowering - inflorescences appear in June. Its inflorescences are small, the petals have denticles at the ends.

The Floribunda variety, popular among Europeans, blooms with very large white-cream conical inflorescences on long stalks. Against the background of contrasting dark foliage, the flowers look very elegant. The shrub grows up to 2 m. It blooms from July to September. Prefers well-lit areas, sheltered from drafts.

Mature plants are characterized by high frost resistance. Young bushes require shelter for the winter. Floribunda on the lawn is especially beautiful in combination with conifers or other ornamental shrubs.

Hydrangea of the French variety Great Star, perhaps, cannot be confused with any other. It has a unique shape of inflorescences, which are formed from two types of flowers: sterile - large white (up to 10 cm) with curved petals, similar to propellers or stars, and fertile - small, unremarkable. There are about 17 sterile flowers in the inflorescence, 200 fruitful ones.

Mature bushes grow up to 2 m in height and width. They have a widely spreading crown. Plants of this variety are light-loving, but can also withstand light shade. Like most hydrangeas, Great Star is unpretentious and does not require staking. Used in single and group plantings.

Tall and lush bushes are formed by the Silver Dollar variety. They reach 2.5 m in height and width. Their crown is smooth and round in shape. The shrub blooms from July to September with large pyramid-shaped inflorescences of white-green color. A little later, the flowers become silver, and in the fall they turn lilac-pink.

The plant is equally decorative both in the sun (not in direct rays) and in light shade. Withstands winter temperatures down to -29 °C. Plants of the first two years need to be protected under cover during wintering.

Used in solitary and group plantings. Silver Dollar hydrangeas make beautiful silvery hedges; they decorate areas along garden paths and paths in city parks. Goes well with perennials from other families.

The Phantom variety stands out among its fellows in appearance due to its largest cone-shaped inflorescences and beautiful bush shape. The height and width of the bush are within 2 m. Traditionally, for hydrangeas, the flowers change color from the beginning to the end of flowering - they are cream in summer, pink in autumn. Phantom blooms in July.

The variety is winter-hardy, suitable for planting in semi-shaded areas. IN landscape design planted as a tapeworm and in group plantings, in combination with other perennial crops. Paniculata hydrangea is actively used in breeding experiments even today; recently, new varieties have been developed. Among them are Ammarin, Big Ben, Bobo, Brussels Lace, Dolly, Early Sensation, Mega Mindy, Shikoku Flash, Mustila, etc.

Hydrangea paniculataVery beautiful plant and it is not for nothing that it is popular among flower growers and breeders from different countries. And no matter how much we try to describe the decorativeness of this plant in words, it is only possible by looking at photographs with abundant flowering shrubs, fall in love with this flower and want to decorate your garden or balcony with it.

Exquisite and solemnly majestic hydrangeas, occupying a leading position in the family of the same name, are common in the wild nature of Asia, southern Europe and North America. On Russian territory in the Far Eastern region there are two species of this ornamental plant.

Paniculates are also cultivated. New varieties are especially popular among domestic gardeners. These magnificent plants are successfully grown in almost all, even the most climatically difficult regions of the country. In this article we will present an overview of hydrangea varieties.

Type of hydrangea paniculata

This plant is very attractive and has excellent regenerative ability in case of partial damage caused by freezing. New varieties of hydrangea paniculata have high frost resistance, allowing the plant to overwinter under minimal or no shelter from spruce paws and spandex (in places protected from northern winds and with a sufficiently high layer of snow cover).

The self-explanatory name of the species determines the shape of the inflorescence, which is a large, long-blooming panicle. Distinctive feature Some varieties of this species have a rare ability to gradually change the color of flowers. Cut inflorescences are often used in winter bouquets. is represented by numerous varieties, differing in the size and structure of the bush, the color of the inflorescences, and the duration of flowering. The popular ones, which we will discuss below, have long been recognized by gardeners.

Grandiflora

Photophilous decorative variety with classic large white cone-shaped inflorescences and a predominance of sterile flowers that turn pink during flowering - this is what the description of popular varieties looks like, let's start with it. The bush, reaching two meters in height, with a regular rounded crown is distinguished not only by the beauty of its flowers, but also by the decorativeness of its leaves, oblong and velvety with a pointed tip, which bloom quite late. Flowering period is from July to September. The degree of winter hardiness increases with age; young plants should be covered with the onset of winter.

Features of the variety

Resistance to gas pollution allows Grandiflora to be grown within the city. It is often used in park interiors, in group and single plantings.

Grows excellently in well-lit places with loose, fertile, acidic soils. very demanding on watering and fertilizing. The magnificent decorative appearance of the bush is maintained by annual spring pruning. Can be grown by forming a trunk.

Hydrangea Limelight

A late-blooming variety with large, dense, wide-conical inflorescences that have a distinct light green tint at the beginning of flowering, turning into soft pink tones in the fall. Limelight enchants with the beauty of its dense inflorescences of sterile flowers. The shrub is quite compact, reaches one and a half meters in height and has a neat rounded crown. Not only the inflorescences are decorative; the velvety dark green oblong leaves with a sharp apex emphasize the sophistication of the plant. Blooming from mid-summer to September, hydrangea is light-loving, develops well on light acidic soils and absolutely does not tolerate liming. The variety is planted in illuminated areas.

Young plants are especially vulnerable in harsh snowless winters, so they will have to be covered in the first years. Like other new varieties of Hydrangea paniculata, Limelight increases its level of winter hardiness with age. The plant requires rational care: watering and fertilizing during the growing season are required, as well as sanitary and shaping pruning, which must be carried out either before the start of sap flow, or during the leaf blooming period. The highly decorative nature of the bush is used for planting it in single or group ensembles that decorate park and garden interiors. Limelight and other varieties of paniculata hydrangea, the most popular in Russia, are valued by gardeners as the basis for floral arrangements and winter bouquets.

Hydrangea Vanilla Fries

A favorite variety of many gardeners with exquisite and beautiful pink and white pyramidal inflorescences. The spreading shrub with a diameter of one and a half meters and a height of two meters is classified as late flowering.

The inflorescences, consisting of sterile snow-white flowers that bloom at first, quickly turn pink and acquire a rich pink color. This change in shade is characteristic of many paniculate hydrangeas. New varieties have a more pronounced change in shade and a surprisingly long flowering time. These include Vanilla Fries, used as a spectacular tapeworm surrounded by bright perennials in lawn compositions. The shrub is frost-resistant, light-loving, prefers well-moistened fertile soils with an acidic reaction. It is planted in brightly lit areas, protected from the winds. Periodic generous watering and fertilizing are required. Pruning of weak, frozen or faded shoots is carried out in early spring before the buds swell.

Hortense Kyushu

Decorative early flowering shrub with white inflorescences of sterile and predominantly fertile flowers that gradually turn into pinkish. The spreading bush, reaching three meters in height, is distinguished by dark green glossy foliage and medium-sized inflorescences with a small number of sterile flowers. Despite their height, the bushes create the impression of transparent lightness, and this quality of the plant is often used in landscape decoration and effectively played up by garden interior designers. White flowers collected in long conical shapes wide base inflorescences have a pleasant aroma.

Hydrangeas paniculata. New varieties, however, tolerate partial shade and can grow well in areas with light and acidic soils. This is also typical for Kyushu. The shrub has moderate winter hardiness, which increases with age. The variety is moisture-loving, demanding on fertilizing, and tolerates air pollution very well, which is invaluable in urban conditions. Therefore, Kyushu is often planted in city parks, shrub mixborders, and also Japanese kindergartens. Pruning is carried out in early spring, shortening shoots with faded inflorescences to a developed node with existing buds and cutting out weak and broken branches.

Hydrangea Pinky Winky

A beautiful bush with pink-red inflorescences, in which sterile flowers predominate, has a lush, rounded crown reaching two meters in diameter. Decorative perennial productive for almost fifty years. The annual growth of shoots is 25-30 centimeters. The flowers are collected in long, up to 18-20 centimeters inflorescences with a change in shade from purple at the base of the cone-shaped panicle to a snow-white top.

Light green oblong leaves with pointed tips and serrated edges also add decorativeness to the bush. Hydrangea Pinky Winky is used to decorate estates, gardens and park areas, often planted as a hedge or in single and group plantings in ensembles and contrasting compositions. This variety does not tolerate drought, soil compaction and the presence of lime in it; it prefers sheltered areas lit by the sun with fertile acidic soils. In case of abundant flowering, it is recommended to tie the bush. Young plants are covered for the winter.
