Do-it-yourself lifting garage doors: drawings, manufacturing, materials, installation. Lifting gates: how to make them yourself Automatic lifting gates with your own hands

In the article we will look at how to make garage overhead gates with your own hands, the main advantage of such gates is that when the garage opens, the door moves to the ceiling in the garage, and this is much more convenient than in the case of swing gates.

So, you have decided to install overhead gates in your garage, and do it yourself. The most simple design lifting gates is the one that was installed on “shell” type garages. However, these gates have a technological gap from the gate leaf to the opening. Naturally, this is unacceptable, since in our conditions the garage must be insulated, and the presence of even a small gap is completely inappropriate.

It is required that the fit of the closed gate to the opening be made as tight as possible; in addition, the gate should have a wicket in order to winter period do not force cold air into the garage building while the door is fully open.

Overhead garage doors

To make a garage door frame, you can use aluminum profile, and to arrange the frame for the gate, you can use wooden blocks. WITH outside A corrugated sheet or any other lightweight finishing material is attached to the gate frame with self-tapping screws.

After performing these steps, we get a gate in which the gate opens to the street side. The gate should open in such a way that when the gate is raised, it does not open on its own (this is fraught with injury).

The size of the gate is larger than the length of the opening (about 10 cm). This is done in order to ensure that there is no gap between the gate and the wall of the building (5 cm on the inner sides).

The lower part of the canvas on the sides needs to be equipped with wheels; I used wheels from ordinary roller skates. And so that they could easily move along the wall of the garage, I installed vertical guides: I bought a profile for installing drywall (metal thickness 0.6 mm) from a hardware store UD, and used them as guides. From the beginning I thought it would bend, but practice has shown that there is not a very large load on the sidewalls of the profile and it can withstand it quite well.

The doors are hung with chains (later replaced with 25x4mm metal strips) on the front wall of the garage building in such a way that the center of gravity of the leaf is lower than their fastening, and the location of the upper part is close to the opening.

When closed, the position of the lower edge of the leaf should be in a special recess; this is necessary so that the gate does not move away from the building. The canvas should be pressed against the gate opening under the influence of its weight. In the lowest position, the gate must be locked, for which a special latch is attached to it from the inside.

What it all looks like in practice:

Another simple and inexpensive option for a gate lifting mechanism

To make it easier to lift the gate leaf and make it easier to maintain in the extreme top position it is necessary to equip the structure with a counterweight, the selection of which is made in accordance with the weight of the canvas. The roller axles are equipped with cables, which must be passed through the blocks and loaded with a counterweight.

At the bottom of the gate, from the outside, you should install the usual door handle, which helps with closing and opening gates because it is convenient to use.

That's all about production technology. Using these instructions, you can easily build a lift-type gate in your garage.

Several more options for overhead garage doors - video

Most experienced car enthusiasts prefer old swing or sash gate options, considering them the most secure and reliable due to the heavy weight and thickness of the metal. But, as practice shows, sash systems have a worthy competitor, namely, hinged garage doors. The popularity of the tilt-up design is such that today it accounts for approximately three-quarters of garage doors sold. It is worth understanding the reasons.

Advantages and disadvantages of overhead garage doors

To understand the difference in the use of lift-and-fold systems and the old swing structure, you need to try them in practice at least a couple of times, for knowledgeable person the difference is visible to the naked eye:

  • The hinged door system allows you to avoid the formation of a “blind” zone when leaving the garage. Lift systems do not have doors that block the view, which is why dozens of cars crash in garage cooperatives every year;
  • The absence of swing doors when opening the doors increases the space for maneuver in front of the gate; there is no need to park the car a couple of meters from the doorway in order to be able to open and close the garage.

For your information! Often, drivers decide to change regular gates to folding ones for only one reason: in a strong wind, there is a chance of getting hit by the gate on the car body at the time of departure.

Folding gates are cheaper to manufacture, they are more convenient to use, and their simple device allows you to build them yourself. But it is not possible to install such a system in every garage; at a minimum, you need free space in the ceiling above the entrance to the garage.

We build folding garage doors with our own hands

The structure and operating principle of the gate are clear from the diagram and drawing below:

  1. Structurally, the gate consists of two frames - the shield itself, or the panel covering the doorway, and the load-bearing support frame with guide elements;
  2. When opening upper part folding gates deflects and moves on rollers or bearings along two guides until the panel is completely on two horizontal beams;
  3. The bottom edge of the panel rises up and is fixed in this position.

The plane of the folding gate makes a movement reminiscent of rolling around a conventional cylindrical surface of large radius. To make it easier to lift steel or wood panel folding gates, the design uses compensation springs or counterweights in the form of a load suspended on cables.

Important! Unlike swing systems, folding gates do not have external hinges that can be easily cut with a grinder. In this case, the panel covering the doorway is adjacent to the supporting frame from the inside, therefore, it is much more difficult for intruders to pull out the garage door with a cable hooked to the tow bar of a pickup truck or tractor.

Manufacturing of hinged gate assemblies

The easiest way to make a folding gate design is from steel angle and channel. Initially, you will need to measure the dimensions of the doorway, cut it from the channel and weld the frame of the garage doorway.

At the top of the frame, two horizontal corners with a flange width of at least 40-50 mm are welded. The length of each corner is more than two meters, so perform welding work and the assembly of the entire structure must be “on the ground”, before installing the folding gate system in the doorway.

The angle of attachment of the corner to the frame must be adjusted to the building level. After welding to the frame, each corner is strengthened with a temporary brace made from a board or wooden slats to avoid deformation of the structure at the time of its installation in the garage doorway.

If a lift in the form of loads suspended on cables will be used in the folding gate system, one pin with a groove roller with a diameter of 30-50 mm must be welded to the upper part of the frame.

Particular attention should be paid to the manufacture of the main panel of the folding gate. Structurally, the folding panel is a frame made of a pipe or a metal tubular profile with outriggers-brackets welded to the lower and upper parts.

The tubular frame of the panel must be marked and welded exactly to the dimensions of the stationary frame. The main condition is to carry out welding in three steps so that the frame of the folding panel does not turn out like a “propeller” due to overheating.

First, the cut pieces of the profile are laid out on a flat area and fixed together spot welding. At the second stage, the joints are boiled on one side of the folding frame, after 30 minutes they are turned over and boiled from reverse side. If the panel frame turns out to be strictly in one plane, you can attach sheet metal, otherwise you will need careful straightening using blowtorch and sledgehammers.

Assembly and installation of folding gates

Before installing the tilt gate system, you will need to perform preliminary assembly of the structure. To do this, a stationary frame with welded corner guides is laid out on a flat horizontal platform. A freshly welded movable panel is placed on top of the frame, its position is aligned so that it will stand in the closed position in doorway garage.

To connect the two parts of the gate, you will need to weld oblique brackets with roller or bearing rollers to the upper profile of the panel.

The reliability and smooth operation of the lifting mechanism depends on how accurately the supports are installed. Groove rollers are placed on the studs welded to the stationary frame. Additional panels are welded to the bottom beam L-shaped brackets, to which the support gate lift-lift cable will be attached.

All that remains is to install the stationary frame in the garage doorway and secure it with anchor bolts to the side walls of the garage. Subsequently, the fastening points will need to be carefully filled concrete mortar and plaster. Until the stationary frame is finally fixed, it will be necessary to align its position with the building level. Next, you need to make a U-shaped device, with which the ends of the corner guides are fixed to the ceiling.

And sealing various (including garage) premises. Such structures consist of a spring that absorbs vibration of the canvas, other fittings and guides. The canvas itself is equipped with special mechanisms designed for remote opening/closing using the remote control included in the kit.

Sectional doors are found mainly in rooms where free space is limited. When opened, the canvas rises up, which significantly saves free space.

Attention! Gate panels, which are made in any color, are coated with a special polymer coating during manufacturing, which protects the structure from corrosion and ensures a long service life.

If desired, a durable acrylic window can be built into the canvas to illuminate the garage, and thanks to insulating sandwich panels, the structure can operate in a fairly wide temperature range (from -50ᵒC to +70ᵒC).

It is also worth highlighting the safety of such a design, because closing is ensured by a special locking system, which makes it possible to automatically lock the panel immediately after lifting. With proper operation and strict adherence to the manufacturer’s instructions, the structure will last about ten years without repair or replacement of individual elements. Now let's figure out how to assemble with your own hands.

Varieties of design

Modern sectional doors are suitable for all types of premises.

Attention! Garages built earlier often do not correspond to the current ones. building standards, as a result of which gates are produced in various modifications.

Vertical lift structures

Designed for garages with high lift heights. They are sold exclusively in construction hypermarkets and are distinguished by the fact that they take up minimal space during installation.

High lift structures

Such gates are more expensive and are used where the small height does not allow for vertical lifting of the door leaf. The high price is explained by the use of hanging brackets, special guides and a large number of consumables.

Find out the master class from a subscriber in our new article.

Standard lift designs

Used in rooms that are completely ready for installation, with minimum height lintels minimum 18 cm. All elements are made of stainless steel. The simplest and convenient option, therefore the most popular.

Low rise structures

Low-lift gates are suitable in conditions of limited opening height (lintel). Control elements and torsion springs are attached to the ceiling, and if it is low, then the entire apparatus is fixed on the back of the guides. More specifically, such a device consists of:

  • torsion shaft;
  • winding pulleys;
  • balancing springs.

After selection suitable design you can begin preparatory work.

Prices for sectional doors

Stage 1. Equipment preparation

Before you begin, you should prepare all the necessary tools.

  1. is especially necessary if the gate width exceeds 5 m. The fact is that ordinary water levels give a certain error (from 1.5 cm to 3 cm), which is unacceptable during installation sectional doors.
  2. Electric drill for fastening individual elements at height.
  3. 1.5 kW hammer drill for making holes in concrete.
  4. Other tools: screwdriver, wire cutters, pliers.

Attention! The above list of tools is incomplete, it all depends on individual characteristics gate and quality of opening preparation.

Various fastening elements will also be required, regardless of whether the walls are made of concrete or loose sandstone.

Stage 2. Measurements

Before ordering a sectional structure, you need to take careful measurements of the opening and the room as a whole.

Step 1. First, the value H is measured - the height of the opening. In this case, it is not the specific height that is indicated, but the place for the vehicle to enter. Let's assume the height is 200 cm. In this case, you must specify 30 cm more when ordering, because after installation the clear passage will be 180 cm.

Step 3. The width of the opening (B) is determined. The resulting figure increases by 2 cm on each side, taking into account the future design.

Step 4. The technical gap (b1, b2) is determined, at least 8 cm on each side. This will provide free access to the fastening elements during service.

Step 5. Finally, measure the depth of the garage (L). A special feature of sectional doors is that the door leaf rises to the ceiling, so the depth must be greater than the height.

Stage 3. Preparing the opening

After measurements and preparation of tools, they order them themselves. Production usually takes approximately two weeks. During this time, you can prepare the opening.

Step 1. First of all, the walls and ceiling are plastered (if this has not been done previously). This can be explained quite simply: after installing the gate guides, access to unprepared areas will be inaccessible.

Step 2. The plane of each wall is checked in relation to the neighboring ones.

Attention! If the opening is not in line with the walls, then installing the gate will not work.

Such structures have the correct horizontal shape, so even the slightest errors in the construction of the garage are unacceptable. Of course, the gate can also be placed on curved surfaces (you will have to work hard), but in this case the strength of the fasteners and aesthetics will be in question. Yes and in winter time it will blow snow and cold air, which will lead to freezing of the room.

Step 3. The walls and ceiling are finished with a metal corner.

Attention! If you have no experience, it is better to entrust the preparation of the garage to professionals, and after completing the work, check the results using a level. If technical specifications are not met, the owner will have to frequently carry out repairs and replace components, and the service life will accordingly be reduced.

Stage 4. Installation of sectional doors

Attention ! Independent joining fabrics is an extremely complex process that only experienced craftsmen can handle. Therefore, it is better to order ready-made gates and install them in the frame.

Step 1. First, all weak coating is removed or strengthened. The horizontalness of the floor is checked (the permissible error in this case is only 1 mm). If everything is in order, you can begin preparing the panels for installation. It must be remembered that such gates are quite expensive, so the canvas should be handled with extreme care so as not to accidentally damage it.

Step 2. Next, markings are applied to attach the guides. The vertical profiles are fixed first - they are attached to the wall using mounting screws (these have a long leg). Then, focusing on the vertical profiles, the horizontal guides are fixed. It is important that the “rails” are positioned strictly at right angles to each other, otherwise the canvas will not be able to rise.

Step 3. Next, the panels are assembled (if ready-made gates were not purchased). In this case, you need to carefully measure everything, because sectional doors, as mentioned above, do not tolerate distortions. If they do form, then planks cannot be used for leveling. different sizes or polyurethane foam, otherwise the dimensions of the structure will be violated in the future.

Instead, it is better to use iron gaskets of different thicknesses.

Step 4. Next, attach the controls and lifting mechanism. The accuracy of all measurements is checked.

Before you start installation work You should read the manufacturer's instructions. Many companies (such as Alutech, Khormane or Dorhan) describe the installation of the structure step by step. Features of installation work may vary depending on the manufacturer, but in general it is a simple procedure.

Step 5. Upon completion of installation, the panels are fixed additional elements(lock, hinges and handles). The castle should be given special attention– it must be of high quality, since it is intended to protect property.

Step 6. Install the springs that are responsible for opening/closing the gate. On final stage work, the limiters necessary to limit the movement of the web are fixed.

Attention! If you are installing a gate model with , you will need to install more electric drive. For correct installation and connections, you should also read the instructions for the device.

With the right approach and correct calculations Gate installation takes a maximum of one day.

Stage 5. Verification

The main indicator of correct installation is the presence or absence of clearance when the blade is lowered. In this case, the seals will properly perform their functions of sealing and protecting the garage from precipitation. It is worth noting that the seals should be invisible from the outside. If they are visible, then the measurements were taken incorrectly.

Next, the bottom panel is inspected. The seal fixed at the bottom should fit as tightly as possible to the floor. If a gap is detected, the structure is checked by level. To eliminate defects that are not level, the position of the guides is adjusted.

The last thing to check is the balancing (balancing springs). They can be located on the sides of the profiles or on a torsion beam - it all depends on the area of the canvas. If you raise the gate by 1.5 meters, then the springs should be in place, without falling or rising.

Self-production of overhead garage doors is carried out in accordance with pre-developed drawings.

It is necessary to make a sectional structure, which is equipped with a rotary-lifting system mounted on a frame with L-shape and equipped with a curved guide. Up-and-over gates will have two independent leaves.

Drawings of up-and-over garage doors

Design drawings must comply with the requirements of GOST 3174-2003. These requirements regulate the scope of production metal gates, which will be made in accordance with the safety requirements of EN 13241-1.

These standards include several aspects that provide the following guarantees:

  1. The use of materials with fire-resistant and fire-fighting characteristics.
  2. Reliability and stability of the structure under wind and mechanical loads.
  3. Compliance with installation rules.

It is possible to independently install such a structure only by strictly adhering to the requirements of GOST and drawing diagrams.

They can make the task of creating a drawing easier standard projects, which introduce minor changes relating to specific situation, for example, characteristics of materials, overall dimensions.

The initial task when drawing up a drawing is determining the dimensions of the future structure, namely width and height. In this case, it is necessary to focus on the dimensions of the car, so that when it enters there is 30 cm of free space on each side.

It is not practical to make a structure more than 5 meters wide, in most cases this figure is 2.5–3 meters. It should also be taken into account that the distance from the perpendicular wall to the gate frame must be at least 80 cm.

The height is also selected based on the dimensions of the car, usually it varies between 2–2.2 meters. The main element of the structure will be the frame framing the garage opening, the entrance and a pair of doors.

The frame structure will be made from a 65 mm metal corner; a 50 mm steel profile is suitable for the frame and sashes. The elements are sheathed with sheet iron 3 mm thick, and therefore external reinforced hinges should be used.

Calculate required quantity materials can be based on the data presented in the drawing, focusing on the dimensions of the structure.

Up-and-over garage doors - do it yourself

The work will be carried out in several stages, at each of which it is expected to produce one of the structural elements:

  • frame welding;
  • creating a frame with sashes;
  • gate installation;
  • installation of a locking mechanism.

Frame making

Initially the frame is made. You can complete the task using the following materials:

  • steel corners – 65 mm;
  • metal strip – width 30 mm, thickness 4 mm;
  • steel reinforcing rod - it is used to fix the frame in the opening.

The work will be carried out using special tool, such as a welding machine and a grinder. In addition, you will need a tape measure with a level and a square.

Using a grinder, you need to cut a corner. Only 8 segments are required: 4 of them are identical in width to the gate opening, and the rest will have a length comparable to the height of the opening.

The corners are welded together to form a frame, and the joint can be overlapped or butt jointed. The outer segment of the frame is carefully sanded so that the doors fit as tightly as possible.

Creating a wireframe

The formation of the frame is also carried out using a corner, but a metal profile is also perfect.

It is necessary to make 8 segments - 4 for each of the sashes. They should be 15 mm smaller in height than the frame, thanks to this gap they will easily fit into the opening.

Four of the resulting segments will be horizontal; their width is 35 cm less than half the frame.

The next step is welding the frame, which is reinforced with the help of horizontal strips that act as spacers and are necessary to prevent distortion of the geometry.

Important! The reinforcing structural element should be attached in the middle segment of the frame.

The material for the manufacture of sashes is sheet metal 2 mm thick. It is assumed that 2 panels will be cut 4 cm above the opening. The width on one side is 2 cm larger, and on the other - the same distance smaller.

The canvas is welded to the frame using a special technology. Note that on the upper and lower sides it extends 2 cm beyond the body of the frame of one sash, and its width must be made 1 cm smaller.

Thanks to this, the other sash will be in close contact with the canvas, which should be welded so that it extends 4 cm beyond the frame.

It must be taken into account that sheet metal has an unreliable structure, and therefore it is recommended to strengthen the corners and core by welding. Only after this, in increments of 15 cm, do they begin to weld the entire sheet.

When the work is completed, the welding in the corners is cut off, since in the future it may cause deformation of the entire structure.

Reliability of fastening is ensured by special reinforced hinges; for this, the lower segment is welded to the frame, and the upper part is fastened to the sash.

The adhesion can be strengthened by welding metal strips and reinforcement onto the hinges. You need to take a strip up to 7 mm thick and, bending it, weld it with the sash and the upper part of the hinge, then with inside the reinforcement tab is welded.

Gate installation

The garage door manufacturing process can be considered complete; it is time for installation. Initially, it is necessary to install the gate frame - both the outer and inner sides.

Attention! The installation of the structure in the opening is carried out at the stage of construction of the garage, when approximately 50 cm of the main wall is ready.

The frames are connected to each other using metal strips 4 cm wide. When welding them to the structure, a step of 60 cm should be observed.

After this, it is necessary to complete the laying of the front garage wall, while the bricks should fill the space that has arisen between the frames. When carrying out masonry, you should simultaneously install the frame.

This is done by welding the reinforcement. It is necessary to attach a beam to the upper frame segment, which serves as a ceiling and is made of concrete or metal.

Lift-and-swing mechanisms

The gate will operate thanks to a rotating mechanism with a forced operating principle. The trajectory of movement will be set using special guides, thanks to which the canvas changes its position, moving from the horizontal to the vertical plane.

Pivot lift gates will open thanks to ceiling guides and a special mechanism. It is important to pay attention to the springs that need to be adjusted, thereby achieving lifting of the canvas with minimal effort and without slipping.

The alignment of guides is carried out strictly in accordance with horizontal plane . To level the position, spacers are used, which are mounted in the gap formed between the frame and the beam.

Particular attention should be paid to the locking system, namely the type of lifting mechanism that will be used for the gate.

If you give preference to a lever-hinged system, you can be sure of its reliability, since in this case the blocking of the shield is eliminated, and the movement of the doors is carried out along the simplest trajectory.

Here it is important to carefully adjust the springs and set the guides so that they are parallel to each other and at the same time in a vertical plane, since otherwise the shield will get stuck.

Can be used with lifting mechanism on counterweights: its design consists of a cable fixed in the lower segment of the frame and passed through a block. The counterweight must be secured to the opposite edge of the winch.

Important! Such a mechanism will place a significant load on the gate frame.

Use of additional materials

You can make the operating process much more convenient, and the design itself easier, by using composite translucent materials. Thanks to this, the volume of sunlight entering the interior space will increase.

Grounding and protection are provided using specialized locking devices that can also prevent hacking. A necessary accessory is a limit bar that protects against aggressive influences external environment gate stops.

Compensating linings needed to close gaps will also be useful, and a rubber edging profile will make the structure as stable as possible.

It is important to follow the manufacturing technology and use exclusively quality materials so that the design is sufficiently reliable and durable. Up-and-over garage doors are a modern and effective solution, thanks to which it is possible to save space.

Upward-opening doors allow you to install a garage in limited space, and the automation system makes it possible remote control process of opening and closing. Thanks to these advantages, bi-leaf overhead garage doors are popular among car enthusiasts.

Well, for those people who better perceive material not “from text”, but “from video”, we offer to see how ready-made overhead garage doors, made with their own hands, function:

Stands out among its peers in some ways advantages. Firstly, they are made from whole cloth, which can be made very resistant to hacking attempts. Secondly, up and over gates V open form do not take up as much space in the space in front of the garage as swing doors do.

Thirdly, with sufficient experience and skill in working with sensors and electric drives, they can be made automatic that open when you press the remote control.

An additional, but nevertheless important advantage of self-made overhead garage doors is the large number of options to choose from. decor– the gate can be sheathed with clapboard, plastic panels, steel and much more.

Overhead garage doors - dimensions:

But in addition to the advantages, you need to remember shortcomings. The main disadvantage of up and over gates is that in the open position they are installed horizontally under the ceiling, taking away about 20 cm on the height of the opening, which in some situations can cause inconvenience (for example, when you are trying to drive into a garage in a tall SUV).

A significant disadvantage of a solid canvas is that if it is damaged, it will be necessary to replace not a separate element, but the entire structure at once. In addition, it can be quite heavy, which puts a lot of stress on the frame and lifting system.

Lifting garage doors have one more disadvantage: they can only be used in rectangular openings. But here it should be remembered that garages with arched or other shaped openings are extremely rare.

We buy everything you need

Now it's time to take a pen, a few sheets of paper and make a list of everything you need to make overhead gates to the garage with your own hands. All this can be purchased at the nearest construction department store, so there shouldn’t be any big problems finding materials and tools.

So for homemade overhead gates for the garage we need:

  1. Wooden beam section 100x100 And 120x80 mm. They can be replaced steel profile comparative strength.
  2. Corners 40x40 and thickness 4 mm.
  3. Channel 40x80 mm.
  4. Material for canvas: thick boards 25 mm, corrugated sheets or plastic panels.
  5. Steel rod diameter 8 mm.
  6. Two springs with inner diameter 30 mm.
  7. Anchor bolts and screws.

As for tools, first of all, we need a tape measure, an angle and a level to carefully check that the dimensions of the overhead garage door are correct.

To work with metal we need an angle grinder (also better known as an angle grinder) and welding machine. In addition, we need to saw wooden beam and carry out other work with it, which means we need electric jigsaw, drill and screwdriver. Well, what would a repair be without a hammer, screwdrivers and wrenches?

Pre-planning

How to do overhead gates to the garage yourself? Together with a tape measure and a level, you should go to the opening to find out the dimensions of the lifting homemade gate for the garage. This is a very important stage, which further determines whether your work will be successful.

After this, you can take a sheet of paper and start making your own drawings overhead garage doors. So, they will consist of a solid canvas, an opening, a frame under the ceiling and moving mechanisms.

First of all, you need to carefully measure the drawing lifting garage doors in all sizes, so that in the future there will be no inconsistencies and problems during manufacturing. It will be useful to make a plan from several views, including isometry.

If at this stage you have difficulties, try to find a friend with experience in compiling drawings and, even better, gate making. Made with your own hands drawings overhead garage doors? Now it's time to take action!

Do-it-yourself lifting garage doors: step-by-step instructions

How to do up and over gates to the garage with your own hands?

  1. First of all, we need to equip opening. Vertical supports made of 120x80 mm timber should be dug into the garage (if it is already filled) or the ground (if not yet) by 20-30 millimeters; for greater reliability, the depth can be increased. Both vertical and horizontal beams will be attached to the walls of the garage using anchor bolts.
  2. Assembling the frame for ceiling. To do this, a horizontal beam for the guides should be installed from the opening at a distance of approximately the length of the gate. It is important that it is parallel to the horizontal beam of the opening and is the same in height throughout its entire length; distortions are unacceptable.
  3. It is assembled from two metal corners by welding guide rail, along which the roller mounted on the canvas will move. The distances between the corner vertices should be carefully monitored during assembly. Two such rails must be attached to the upper beams; for this you can use metal fittings and self-tapping screws.
  4. We manufacture canvas frame. For it, you can take a wooden beam, or metal corners welded into a square profile. For better durability of the canvas, transverse or diagonal beams can be welded (or attached) to the main frame. Don't forget about the rollers at the top of the structure.
  5. When using fastening material, you need sheathe the canvas the material you have chosen.
  6. This point in the manufacture of overhead gates is very important and great attention should be paid to it. Using corners and fasteners, you need to make movable brackets on both support beams. The levers of their channels should be attached to them, which will push the blade upward.
  7. To keep the gate open, you need springs. They are attached to the bottom of the supports, to the bracket and to the end of the channel. When the door is raised, the spring is compressed and does not allow spontaneous lowering: closing the gate will require considerable effort. It would not be superfluous to equip the fastening of the spring to the bracket and channel with a tension regulator.
  8. Final stage gate manufacturing– installation of all elements, insulation of the canvas and fastening of the decorative covering to the sheathing.

Do-it-yourself lifting garage doors (from profile):

In the future up and over gates for a garage can be improved by adding the ability automatic opening and closing. To do this, you will need an electric drive, a signal receiver and a control panel. As the latter, you can use a key fob for a car alarm, and as a drive - either a reverse winch or a power window mechanism.

Don't forget to install a reliable locking system, which will protect your garage from illegal entry. If you often come here and you don’t need to lift the canvas every time, then you can make a cutout in it for the door.

In addition, you can make inserts in the canvas from glass or any other light-transmitting material, so you will save on the garage during daylight hours.

As you can see, do it yourself up and over gates getting into the garage is not so difficult, the main thing is not even good skills in working with metal and wood, but careful planning and compliance with the dimensions of the garage overhead gates. If everything was done correctly, such gates will serve you for a very long time.
