DIY frame garage step by step instructions. Frame garage - we build it with our own hands. Roof and gate structures

A car home is an important thing in the life of any car enthusiast. The car should be kept in a warm, dry room, which will extend its service life. Every car owner dreams of having a garage. Previously, the choice consisted only of building a permanent garage and an iron box; today everything is much simpler.

Pros and cons of a frame garage

Let's briefly list the advantages:

  • Low cost
  • Lightweight design
  • Ease of production
  • Strength of the structure

Among the disadvantages there is one obvious one: moisture and cold penetrate through the wood. In order for this disadvantage to disappear, you will need material for waterproofing and thermal insulation.

Undoubtedly, the simplest structure today is a frame structure. It is light, durable, does not require huge investments and can be built in a matter of days. Construction of a permanent garage will cost more. If you have chosen frame structure, start by choosing a location for the garage. The place must be open.

How to build a frame garage with your own hands

There is nothing difficult about building a garage yourself. This simple design, requiring a minimum of effort. This does not require special equipment, there is no need to specially hire a team or draw drawings. If a place for construction is found, then decide on the size of the garage, clear the place of plants and create a gravel bed. The earth must be compacted. After this, construction can begin directly. It will consist of the following stages:

  1. Creating a foundation
  2. Frame assembly
  3. Roof construction
  4. Wall cladding
  5. Gate installation

Tools and building materials

We will need various materials. It will depend on what frame for the garage we choose.

Tools you will need:

  • Hammer
  • Shovels
  • Level
  • Gloves
  • Formwork

This is the minimum. Wood will be needed as a building material. It could be aspen, linden, larch. You will need beams with a cross section of 100x100, 100x50. To pour the foundation you will need to prepare a good concrete solution.

Which garage frame to choose

The choice of frame for a garage is not great. From only two names you will have to choose one that suits you.

  • Wood frame
  • Metal frame

Wooden frame garage

The first option is considered environmentally friendly, easy to process, and energy saving. The only downside is its cost. Despite the fact that this is not an expensive undertaking, the cost can be reduced by using a metal frame. But the last word always belongs to the owner of the future garage.

Frame garage made of profile pipe

In addition to the fact that the construction of such a structure will be somewhat cheaper than construction from wooden beam, it also has sufficient strength and is easy to manufacture. Some people like to work with wood, while others, on the contrary, will make their task easier by choosing a profile pipe.

Step-by-step instructions for building a frame garage

Let's start with the fact that the place for the building is ready, a gravel-sand cushion has been created, which is compacted in the most careful way. Now you will need to use these instructions and do the simple work step by step. Well, you need to start with a drawing.

Drawing of the frame of the future garage

In principle, a drawing is not mandatory, but a fairly simple drawing will need to be drawn in order to have an idea of the future design. Determine the exact dimensions of the garage, make a preliminary calculation of materials. Knowing the size of the structure in advance, you can easily determine the material consumption and cost of the finished project. This is very convenient, so you should not ignore this work.

Frame garage foundation

Let's get started the most important stage- laying the foundation. A garage is not just a building, it is a special box for a heavy car, so the foundation must be strong and at the same time serve as a floor. As a foundation, the choice is most often made on a monolithic slab.

To create it we will need:

  • Formwork
  • Lathing
  • Concrete mortar

A trench is dug along the perimeter of the future building. It doesn't have to be deep. We install formwork on three sides of the garage. Do not expose on four sides! Such a concrete foundation will need to be reinforced. To do this, you can use a special mesh to add rigidity, as well as reinforcement. The monolithic slab will distribute the load evenly. You need to fill in quality concrete mixture sand based or sand and gravel based.

In order to start further work, you must wait until the concrete has completely dried. To do this, we leave our concrete base for three weeks, sometimes watering it with water if it is very hot outside. If it rains in the coming days, it is better to cover the area with polyethylene.

Do-it-yourself installation of frame garage walls

So, our base is completely dry, and we can begin further work. Now we need a tree or profile pipe. When using a profile pipe.

When working with a profile pipe, you can use the following as a connection:

  • Welding
  • Bolts

You will need a profile pipe 40x40 and 40x20. This frame is very easy to make; corners are welded at the corners. Provide a gate and doorway on one side.

If you have to work with wood, you will need a beam with a section of 100x50 for the bottom trim. It must be dry. Pre-treat it with an antiseptic.

Corner posts and gates must be assembled from timber with a section of 100x100. Between the posts of the lower trim you need to maintain a distance of 120 centimeters. Braces are installed in the corners. This will give the structure strength. If you need a door or gate, make room for it. The frame must be strong.

Arrangement of the roof of a frame garage

Work on constructing the frame takes several days. After the frame is ready, they begin to install the roof. It must be constructed according to the rules, since the roof will have to withstand wind loads and snow loads.

You need to start building the rafter system. For this you will need boards 100x25 and 100x50. The entire structure, as a rule, is assembled on the ground and only then installed on the garage and fastened to the base of the walls. Use all kinds of connecting elements.

It is better to make the roof gable with equal slopes. The skate must fix it. Next, you need to make a sheathing from smaller beams. Any material convenient for you can be attached to it:

  • Corrugated sheet
  • Roof tiles
  • Bitumen sheet

The garage roof does not require insulation as such. The roof overhang must be at least 40 centimeters. Once the roof is finished, which will take a few more days, the structure will be almost ready. Don't forget to build a drain!

Finishing work

Garage finishing consists of its cladding. It is produced using various materials. Wooden lining is most often used. It is easy to cover with it and its cost is low. So, let's look at all the materials for cladding:

  • Eurolining
  • Siding
  • Profiled sheet
  • Facing brick

The choice is yours. Each material is durable and looks very good in modern conditions.

Do-it-yourself insulation of a frame garage

The garage is insulated from the inside. To do this, you can use mineral wool or any other material that is available on the market. If necessary, you can also use plastic film and then line the garage from the inside. Internal cladding is done various materials, which are presented in assortment today. This way, the garage will be warm and protected inside and out. What else do you need for a car?

The final part is the installation of gates, doors and windows. Windows are ordered separately, doors are installed if provided, but gates are a more serious matter. Today you can choose different gates. All of them are suitable for installation in a frame garage.

Gates are:

  • Recoil
  • Sliding
  • Swing
  • Sectional

Most common swing gates. They can be ordered separately or made with your own hands from metal sheet and corners. For this you will need a welding machine.

So, all the work is done, the garage is ready!

Other types of frame garages

Frame garages have become so popular that they are found on almost every site. Today you can find not only ordinary garages, but also large ones, for example, for two cars, or with an equipped attic. Building such a garage is a simple matter, which is why they are popular among summer residents and cottage owners.

DIY frame garage for two cars

This type of frame garage is as simple as a one-car garage. All construction steps are saved. The only thing that distinguishes such a garage is its width. In this case, proceed as follows: install a wall in the garage or do without it. In this case, when installing the roof, you will need to install another expansion beam. The rafter system is installed with a single identical step. Then the pressure will not be distributed over certain areas, but evenly.

DIY frame garage with attic

Frame garage with an attic the insulation is much more serious. During its construction, it will be necessary to insulate both the roof and the floor. You will also have to install heating devices. In such a garage it is good to carry out private repair work at home. As a rule, such buildings are found with two-car garages. The interior lining of the garage walls should be approached more constructively. Also use waterproofing material. It is not uncommon to create a similar structure based on a metal frame.

DIY metal frame garage

In our article we paid attention to the construction metal garages, which are also easy to manufacture. During their construction, sometimes they do without monolithic foundation. You can use metal pipes and build a pile foundation. In this case, sand filling will have to be done to construct the floor. This type of garage can be built faster than a wooden one.

Many car owners dream of having a garage building in the courtyard of a private house, in summer cottage, but do not make their dream come true due to lack of money. After all, the services are professional construction crew They're not cheap. What to do if you don’t want to give up your dream?

You can build a frame-type garage out of wood without the help of experienced craftsmen, with your own hands. How to do this, what tools and materials to prepare - more on that later.

The presence of a garage building on the site allows you to solve many complex issues. You can place a car inside it to protect it from the negative effects of precipitation, UV rays, insects, and the prying eyes of passers-by.

Various garden equipment are also stored here, building materials, tools, devices that are relevant in everyday life. If you organize a basement inside the building, there will be places for year-round storage of canned goods, vegetables, and fruits.

A spacious 6 by 6 garage can be built using various materials:

  1. Metal.
    It is distinguished by durability, practicality, and average weight. But when working with sheets of metal, you will need to have special equipment, which not every car owner can afford;
  2. Brick.
    The brick construction of bricks is distinguished by high rates of heat conservation, durability, and resistance to wear. But it will have significant weight, and therefore will require the construction of a powerful foundation, which requires a lot of money;
  3. Tree.
    The most affordable option, which is definitely worth using to create a frame-type garage structure.

Which of the described materials is better to prefer? Practice shows that the most economical and fairly reliable option today is a frame wooden garage. The construction of such a structure is not particularly difficult; even an inexperienced builder can cope with this task.

The main thing is to carefully read the article to the end in order to know the features of constructing a wooden frame for a garage building. Then you can avoid mistakes and get amazing results from your work.

What nuances should you consider when choosing a location for a garage?

If you decide to build a wooden garage with your own hands without the help of builders with extensive experience, it is important to study some of the nuances of the work. Otherwise, mistakes cannot be avoided.

Construction professionals will advise the following:

  1. To reduce the cost of organizing a car access to a minimum, select the shortest distance from highway and the most convenient check-in.
  2. Save site space if it has a compact area.
  3. It is not necessary to allocate a fertile area of soil for the placement of a building on which crops can be planted.
    Prefer the least suitable place for a vegetable garden.
  4. For safety reasons, a distance of more than 6 m must remain from the garage building to the residential building.
    The optimal value is 8-9 m, because the car itself emits exhaust gases, and flammable objects, substances, and sprays are often stored here chemical compositions for car washing;
  5. Take care of high-quality lighting courtyard, garage building, so that it would be comfortable to drive into it even at night.

Note! Ideal place for the location of a log garage - “from the gate” with access directly to the street.

How to build a wooden garage with your own hands: step-by-step instructions

Have you decided to build a wooden garage yourself, but don't know how to streamline the operations? We will provide a work execution plan with brief description the essence of each task below.

The preparatory stage is the creation of a project indicating the dimensions of the future structure. There are no standards in this matter, but practice shows that the 6x3.5 m design is the most popular among owners of one car.

To place a car inside a building and be able to open its doors without hindrance, you need at least 3 m of free space. Add to this space for installing a small rack with shelves for tools, and we get a width of 3.5 m. The structure for two cars must have a length of at least 10 m.

Step 1 - Foundation

It is important to provide a good-quality wooden garage with a high-quality foundation. Its construction begins with preparatory work: the soil is cleared of debris, leveled and thoroughly compacted.

Foundation design diagram.

The foundation for a frame type of construction can be made in the form monolithic slab in this way:

  • filling a dug pit river sand, compact thoroughly using a good vibrating plate. A layer of 20-30 cm will be enough;
  • Lay geotextile fabric over the sand;
  • the next layer is granite crushed stone, which also needs to be thoroughly compacted. It will take enough to fill the pit to the brim.
  • formwork for the foundation is prepared from wooden logs, the width of which is 20-30 cm. First, form a border around the perimeter of the foundation, then support it with beams;
  • install the reinforcement bars in two layers to form a mesh. It is optimal to use rods with a diameter of 0.10 cm.
  • the foundation is poured with a uniform layer of concrete mortar, leveled using a rule, and compacted using a vibrator. The solution is prepared from clean river sand, screenings and grade 400 cement;
  • Finally, the slab is given 5 days to dry. Only after this time has passed can you proceed to further work.

Note! If you plan to build a frame for a structure with a large weight, then its foundation needs to be reinforced more carefully.

Step 2 construction of frame walls

Wooden garages on a frame have a number of significant advantages, which is why they are often built on a summer cottage, in the courtyard of a private house.

The frame serves as a skeleton for the garage; for its manufacture you can use metal or wooden profile. We will describe how to make a wooden garage with a frame made of bars, because this is an affordable, light-weight material.

Important! Since the bars are made of natural wood are susceptible to rotting and are easily flammable; experts advise treating them with a special compound against rotting and fire.

The principle of assembling a wooden frame

The wooden frame must have four walls, each of which consists of a lower and upper frame, and timber racks made of wood. The racks are installed vertically from the floor surface. There must be a brace (beam lath) in all corners. A garage made of wooden beams will then stand securely for many years.

The walls of the structure are erected as follows:

  • install the lower trim boards, fix them to the concrete using special staples and a construction stapler;
  • corner frame posts wooden garage mount strictly vertically (check for deviation from the vertical using a level), supplement with external frame supports;
  • form a trim for doors and windows.

After erecting the frame, they proceed to arranging the roof. It’s good if it is a tent, then the space inside can be adapted for storing tools, materials, old things, books.

Step 3 roof construction

Any wooden garage of any size must have a roof. Experienced professionals advise organizing gable roof for frame garages, as it is highly practical. During the work process, it is important to correctly calculate the dimensions of the roof truss system, take measurements to measure the optimal distance between its compartments.

There is no reason to say that nothing will work out. You can make a garage from the foundation to the roof with your own hands, if you have patience and read this article to the end.

How to make a roof for a frame garage?

The roof should be built according to this plan:

  • assemble the rafter box;
  • secure the hemming board;
  • cover the structure with layers of insulating, vapor barrier and waterproofing material;
  • execute exterior finishing selected coating.

Note! You can prevent the roof from sagging under the weight of snow by fixing the fillies on the side of the walls to the rafters. This is also worth doing because the cornice trim and roof overhang will look more attractive.

Step 4 exterior finishing

We continue to talk about how to build a garage from boards on a frame with your own hands. Wood, lumber, timber garages demonstrate low resistance to negative environmental factors; for this reason, it is necessary to sheathe finishing material.

It could be a sandwich panel, moisture resistant plywood etc. It all depends on the budget.

The outer cladding is created according to the principle of a multilayer structure.

Step 5 installation of windows and doors

Drawing of a frame garage.

For a frame garage made of logs, it is important to organize sufficient natural lighting, for which purpose windows are formed in its walls. Experts recommend installing metal plastic, as it is characterized by high heat saving rates.

You will also need to install entrance doors on the side of the building or next to the gate. This will allow you to enter and leave the building without opening heavy gates.
Choose good quality garage doors.

It is better to prefer a metal swing version, as it can maintain functionality at any time of the year. But it will need to be cleaned of dirt, primed, and painted after installation.

Step 6: connecting communications

When building a wooden garage with your own hands, it is important to establish an electrical supply, correct lighting. Draw a plan for the placement of electrical wires and lighting fixtures, following which recesses are made in the walls for the wires. Lighting fixtures are placed inside the garage, as well as on its outer wall above the gate.

Step 7 interior work

Garage using frame technology.

At the end of the publication, how to do it without spending large sums of money cash build a wooden garage with your own hands, we will tell you about internal works and the features of their implementation.

First, you will need to perform high-quality vapor barrier of wall surfaces, for which choose modern materials with high operational parameters. This will prevent the risk of materials rotting under the influence of increased levels of air humidity over time.

Then the walls are insulated to prevent them from freezing in winter when low temperatures air outside. To save money insulation work carried out using ordinary polystyrene foam, but if you have enough money, you can use materials with higher heat capacity.

If you want to improve the aesthetic qualities of wall surfaces, they can be finished with plasterboard, clapboard, wallpapered, plastered, etc.

After insulation with polystyrene foam, the floor can be sheathed with wood, FEM tiles, and if there is a lack of money, it can be left without sheathing. The ceiling is sheathed with false panels, clapboard, etc.

Bottom line

You can build a frame-type village garage on your own without spending huge sums of money, if you take into account the tips voiced in the article. The structure will certainly serve for a long time, fully coping with all the assigned tasks.

The optimal way to build a garage “with one hand” is to erect a frame. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to have experience in performing such work or to thoroughly know the technology. It is simple and intuitive. Step-by-step instructions for building a frame garage made of wood will help you understand all its nuances.

From the name of the frame garage it is easy to guess what lies at the heart of its design

A frame structure is a structure made entirely of wood. There are only metal fasteners and connecting elements (perforated corners and plates). The name of the technology is “speaking”, informing that the basis of the structure is the frame. After covering it with the selected material, a full-fledged building with load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls, a rafter system and floors is obtained.

There are three technologies for constructing buildings of this type:

  1. Canadian. A distinctive feature is the use of SIP panels. These products consist of thick (10-20 cm) polyurethane foam, covered on both sides with OSB (oriented strand board) sheets 9-12 mm thick.
  2. Frame-panel, which involves the assembly of large panels from boards and their subsequent installation in the frame openings.
  3. Frame-frame. The easiest to implement, allowing you to perform the entire range of work with your own hands, without the involvement of assistants and lifting equipment. This particular method of building a garage will be discussed next.

Basic elements of a frame structure

Wooden frame garage - inside view

The frame building consists of the following elements:

  • foundation;
  • bottom trim;
  • wall frame made of vertical row and corner posts;
  • sheathing;
  • top floor;
  • rafter system (absent in buildings with flat roofs);
  • roofs.

The lumber used in construction is timber with a section of 100x100 or 150x150 mm and boards with a section of 15x50 mm and 25x20 mm. Sheathing - OSB boards 9 mm thick.

Note! Lumber does not always have the correct geometric parameters. Often boards and beams are curved to one degree or another. It is recommended to use a surface planer to calibrate materials. Since the tool is quite expensive, you can rent it and complete all the work on leveling the lumber in 1-2 days.

Do you need timber?

When building a frame wooden garage, timber is not indispensable

The technology allows you to replace the timber with a package of boards laid on edge and connected to each other with nails and metal pins with a cross-section of 6-8 mm. The price of solid timber and prefabricated timber is approximately the same. But the second one has one undeniable advantage: the prefabricated beam practically does not lead.

Otherwise, it is inferior to timber. When designing, it is taken into account that the permissible loads for it are 15% less than for solid lumber. But a garage is a lightweight structure that does not require significant pressure on the foundation and floors. Therefore, in order to save money and make it easier to carry lumber with your own hands, you can safely use beams from a package of boards.

Pros and cons of a frame garage

The number of advantages of a frame wooden garage is several times greater than the disadvantages

Like any other building construction technology, frame technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, there are much more of the former than all other methods of constructing a garage.

Pros:

  1. High speed of construction. If there are good weather conditions, a frame measuring 4x6 m can be built with your own hands in 3-4 weeks.
  2. Durability. A garage built according to all the rules will last at least 50 years.
  3. Internal and external walls do not require additional finishing in the form of plastering and leveling, as they are flat and smooth surfaces.
  4. Possibility of constructing a lightweight, inexpensive foundation.
  5. Minimal shrinkage or its complete absence, provided that high-quality dried lumber is used.
  6. Ecological cleanliness.
  7. Lower thermal conductivity than brick and concrete buildings.
  8. Ability to withstand significant and frequent temperature changes.
  9. All-season construction.
  10. Indoor microclimate favorable for human health.

Cons:

Among the disadvantages of frame technology, the hygroscopic nature of wood, its susceptibility to rotting and damage by wood-boring insects are primarily noted. Risks are minimized by treating lumber with special solutions - antiseptics. One of the most popular is “Senezh”. It is recommended to apply 2-3 layers of solution.

The second disadvantage of frames is the fire hazard. In order to increase the resistance of wood to the effects high temperatures, developed special means– fire-bioprotective. That is, they are also antiseptics, which allows you to save on the purchase of these solutions. The most popular and effective:

  • "Senezh Ognebio";
  • "Senezh Ognebio Prof";
  • NEOMID from Neohim;
  • "Pirilax" from "NPO NORTH";
  • "Woodmaster" from "NPP Rogneda".

Among the disadvantages of frame-type buildings is the difficulty of attaching hanging elements (shelves, cabinets, mirrors, etc.) to the walls. In order for a nail or self-tapping screw to reliably withstand the load, it must be driven into a beam or board.

Frames have a significant surface area - cavities filled with insulation (mineral wool or polystyrene foam/polyurethane foam). Therefore, when designing a structure, it is necessary to provide in advance for the presence of beams in those places where hanging interior elements will be installed.

Drawing up a project and cost estimate

Before starting to design a frame garage, they study the features of the materials used in its construction. The length of standard boards and timber is 6 m. You can order products of other sizes, but you will have to pay extra for this.

Note! By choosing building dimensions corresponding to 3 and 6 meters, they simplify the construction process, reduce its time and minimize the amount of waste.

In order to maximize cost savings, the geometric parameters of facing and roofing materials are also taken into account when designing.

For a 3x6 garage with a wall height of 3 m you will need:

  • timber 150x150 mm – 1.6 m 3;
  • boards 50x150 mm - 2.1 m 3;
  • boards 25x150 mm - 1.9 m 3;
  • boards 50x100 mm - 0.7 m 3 (for the floor, if it is wooden).

The advantage of frame construction is that you can save on lumber for formwork. It is constructed from existing materials, but to protect it they are covered with thick shields. plastic film. After dismantling the formwork, the boards are used for their intended purpose: to erect a frame.

Mandatory budget items

Purpose Materials
Foundation made of monolithic reinforced concrete slab — hydroglass insulation or roofing felt for waterproofing;

- sand for filling the “pillow” with a thickness of 20-30 cm;

— concrete M-300;

- metal rods for reinforcement.

Frame of walls and ceilings, rafter system — timber 150x150 mm;

— boards 50x150 mm;

- boards 50x100 mm.

Lining of internal and external walls OSB-3 (thickness 9 mm)
Roof sheathing Boards 25x150 mm
Roof cladding Ondulin, corrugated sheets, flat or wave-shaped slate, flexible tiles, metal tiles.

Board 25x150 mm for filing eaves overhangs.

Insulation of walls and ceilings Basalt slabs Rockwool “Light Butts” 150 mm thick.
Fire protection of wood "Senezh Ognebio"
Fasteners Metal corners, wood screws, nails.

On average, the cost of materials for the construction of a 4x6 m garage with a wall height of 2.7 m is 278 thousand rubles. (data current as of early 2018). The work of specialists in the construction of a building costs 180-200 thousand rubles.

To find out the exact amount of materials needed for the construction of a frame garage, you can use an online calculator that performs calculations in accordance with SP 31-105-2002.

To do this, you need to specify the structure parameters:

  • length;
  • width;
  • height;
  • step between floor beams (recommended 400 mm);
  • pitch between row frame posts (recommended 600 mm);
  • insulation thickness (100-200 mm).

Advice! It is advisable to assemble the frame with nails, as they effectively prevent the materials from moving in any direction. Self-tapping screws work better when pulled off.

Required Tools

Construction will require both power and hand tools.

When constructing a frame, wood is used, which determines the choice of tools.

Power tools

  1. Circular (circular) saw. The Hitachi C7MFA-4800 is considered the most durable.
  2. A screwdriver with two batteries with a power of at least 19W. Optimal choice– “AEG BS 12 X-R LMB–3200.”
  3. Chainsaw. The best budget one is Echo CS-3500-14. Average price 7100 rub.
  4. Concrete mixer with a capacity of at least 140 liters. Necessary for pouring slab or strip foundations. To build a columnar structure, manual mixing of concrete will be sufficient.
  5. Angle grinder (grinder), 125 mm.
  6. A miter saw required to make cuts at a specific angle. Circular will not cope with this task. The purchase of a miter saw quickly pays off in the speed and accuracy of the work.
  7. Pneumatic nail hammer (optional).
  8. Sharpener for sharpening hand tools.

Advice! Those who have experience self-construction framers, it is not recommended to buy a jigsaw. This tool is useless for most jobs and is completely replaceable with the existing manual and electric ones.

Hand and measuring tools

  1. High-quality bubble levels in lengths of 200 and 60 cm.
  2. Tape measure with a tape length of at least 8 m.
  3. Chalk painter's lace.
  4. Hammers for 500 and 1000 g.
  5. Two hatchets, small and medium.
  6. Mount.
  7. Ticks (medium and large).
  8. Shoe knife.
  9. Set of chisels.
  10. Wood saw.
  11. Containers and shovels for excavation and concreting.

Choosing a foundation

All frame structures are lightweight buildings and do not require a solid foundation. Any foundation is suitable for this type of garage:

  • slab;
  • MZL (shallow belt);
  • columnar;
  • on screw piles.

Alternative to traditional foundations

Semykin foundation - budget option

For small one-story buildings, the most budget option is suitable - the Semykin foundation. It is built from car tires which are waste material. This significantly reduces the cost of the estimate. The internal cavities of tires are filled ¾ with sand and gravel and filled with concrete.

Among the advantages of a base made from car tires:

  • shock-absorbing properties that prevent the structure from distorting when the soil moves during periods of freezing and thawing;
  • durability;
  • cheapness;
  • high construction speed.

Foundation selection criteria

The optimal solution for any type of structure is a slab base. But when choosing it, it is necessary to resolve several important issues in advance:

  • where will it be located inspection hole, and what are its dimensions;
  • where and how communications will be located (electrical wiring, water supply, sewerage, ventilation);
  • determine the location of machines, shelving, workbench.

It is not always possible to foresee all the nuances of arranging a garage in advance, and in this case they choose strip or columnar foundations. They provide scope for choosing the location of all the above elements of the building and its interior.

Construction of a columnar foundation

Construction of a columnar foundation

A columnar foundation is a complex of supports buried in the ground located along the perimeter of the building. There are several possible ways to construct pillars.

  1. From bricks laid on cement-sand mortar.
  2. By pouring concrete into asbestos pipes with a cross-section of 200-350 mm;
  3. Made from concrete blocks.
  4. By installing formwork, reinforcing and pouring concrete.
  5. From metal pipes with a wall thickness of more than 2 mm and filled with gravel and cement-sand mortar.

Regardless of the chosen method of constructing the supports, you will need to form recesses for them in the ground. Holes can be dug with a shovel or drilled with a motor drill. For the foundation for a frame garage optimal cross section recesses – 20-25 cm.

Construction stages:

Step 1. Choosing a location. It is important that the building is located at a distance of at least 1.5 m from trees, any fences and buildings.

Step 2. Marking. At this stage, using laser level find the corner points of the future garage and mark them with pegs. Connected with twine or polypropylene cord. Check the straightness of the corners and make sure that the diagonals of the rectangle are equal.

Step 3. Site preparation. If necessary, level the terrain of the selected location by cutting off hills and removing soil beyond the markings.

Step 4. In the places where the pillars are installed, pull the string “from wall to wall.” Optimal distance between the supports (without taking into account their cross-section) - 80-120 cm. The thinner the pillars, the smaller the distance between them is chosen.

Step 5. At the found points, dig or otherwise form holes in the ground 100-120 cm deep.

Step 6. From boards with a section of 15x150 mm, formwork is made in the form of hollow boxes of the required size.

Step 7. At the bottom of each pit, pour a layer of sand 5-10 cm thick and a 10-15 cm layer of crushed stone. Each one is compacted thoroughly.

Step 8. Install the formwork in the pits and level it.

Step 9. Rectangular rods are tied from reinforcement bars and installed in the formwork.

Step 10. Prepare a cement-sand mortar with gravel filler manually or in a concrete mixer.

Step 11. Fill the formwork with concrete, compacting each layer.

Step 12. After the pillars have hardened, the formwork is dismantled.

Step 13. Check the horizontal alignment of the supports. Use a two-meter bubble level. Deviations of no more than 5 mm are allowed.

Installation work

Installation of the bottom trim of a frame garage

The next stage of work after installing the foundation is the installation of the lower frame made of timber with a cross-section of 150x150 mm:

  • 2-3 sheets of roofing material are laid on each pillar;
  • each beam is sawn down from the ends so that a tongue-and-groove connection is formed at the corner points;
  • reinforce the joints with metal corners secured with self-tapping screws;
  • install intermediate beams, the ends of which rest against the pillars on the opposite walls of the frame;
  • connect the beams with the strapping using corners and self-tapping screws.
  • lay a floor on the lower floor (if you do not plan to install an inspection hole;
  • the wall frame and roof trusses are erected.

Most often, after installing the lower floor, they begin to install the corner and intermediate supports of the frame walls, which are connected by the upper frame. The step between the vertical posts is 60-80 cm. Then the external walls are sheathed with OSB sheets. Fill the openings between the frame posts with foam plastic or mineral wool slabs and begin covering interior walls garage.

The rafter system is installed in accordance with the selected type of roof. The roof is sheathed with OSB sheets and a sheathing is installed on top of them for laying the facing material. The final stage of building a frame garage is finishing the external walls and roof. After which they begin to construct the blind area and access road.

Caring for a wooden frame garage during operation

Proper operation of a frame garage is the key to its durability. Since the structure is wooden, it is destructive for it high humidity air. WITH outside the building is being sheathed facing materials, protecting the walls and roof from precipitation. Indoors, high-quality ventilation is required, natural or supply and exhaust.

Maintenance of a building consists of several regularly repeated actions:

  • inspection of the foundation and its timely repair;
  • inspection finishing coatings walls and roofs, eliminating detected deficiencies;
  • maintaining cleanliness and dryness indoors;
  • drainage device that removes soil and surface water from the foundation.

In order to build a frame garage made of wood, you need to choose the right materials and type of foundation, study the instructions for performing each stage installation work. A building built by oneself is the pride of the owner. Compliance with technology requirements guarantees the reliability and durability of the garage.

Example of a frame garage

Just bought a plot for construction country house, but there is nowhere to park the car during visits? Or do you own a small house, but erecting a pompous structure next to it seems irrational? Then read this article. From it you will learn: what is attractive about frame structures, and how to build a frame garage with your own hands.

The garage was the cherished dream of the Soviet car enthusiast. The lucky few built cooperative brick boxes. Everything was in short supply: bricks, lumber, and even the space itself in the cooperative. Suffice it to recall the film “Garage” by Eldar Ryazanov. The rest were content with homemade metal boxes. Garages produced under the guise of consumer goods had a more attractive appearance, weighed less, which was an undoubted advantage during assembly. Finally, so-called “shells” were also produced.

In the current conditions, most car owners prefer to leave their “iron” horse next to the entrance. And yet there are situations when it is necessary to quickly and at low cost build a covered structure for storing a car. If such a need arises, perhaps the best option will be a frame garage.

Selecting a location

Before starting construction, you need to decide on the location of the future building. To avoid conflict with the local administration and neighbors, you should follow building codes and rules (SNiP). According to the latter, a garage can be installed directly on the red building line. But there should be at least a meter to the fence of the neighboring plot.

A frame garage should fit organically into the layout of the site, have a convenient approach and be located on a calm terrain, which will save on the construction of the foundation.

To avoid shading garden beds or flower beds, place the garage closer to the northern edge of the property.

Metal or wood?

You can make a frame garage with your own hands from metal structures or wooden. It all depends on the personal preferences of the future owner. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • ease of transportation of purchased parts;
  • quick and uncomplicated assembly, if necessary, easily disassembled for subsequent sale;
  • durability;
  • fire resistance. Belongs to the category of non-combustible buildings.
  • in winter it is difficult to heat the room, and the walls are covered with frost (this problem is solved by insulating the frame);
  • more high cost compared to wood.

Wood frame garage

Pros:

  • ease of construction;
  • construction can be carried out without the use of lifting equipment;
  • low thermal conductivity, which allows you to quickly heat the room in winter.
  • fire hazard of the structure, it is necessary to process the structure several times protective equipment- fire retardants;
  • wood is hygroscopic, careful waterproofing of the lower trim is required;
  • absorbs exhaust gases, odors of gasoline and other chemical compounds.

The foundation for a frame garage, both metal and wood, can be made not as massive as for a brick structure.

Slab or strip? Foundation for the frame

The frame structure is lightweight, which makes it possible to make the foundation for a frame garage lightweight. Let's consider 3 options.

  1. Columnar.
  2. Pour several concrete supports in increments of 1–1.5 m along the perimeter of the building, as well as in 2 longitudinal rows along the width of the vehicle track. Such a base will be the cheapest to manufacture. Before pouring, do not forget to lay anchor outlets for subsequent fastening of the lower trim.

  3. Tape.
  4. It is rational to fill the tape with a shallow depth (0.5 m high). It is more correct to pour concrete into formwork, which in case of heaving soils installed on a layer-by-layer compacted sand cushion 200–250 mm thick. The side sinuses around the foundation walls are filled with sand. For reinforcement, periodic rolled products with a diameter of 10–12 mm are used. 4 rods will be enough (2 each - top and bottom).

  5. Slab.
  6. This foundation is the most expensive (high consumption of concrete and reinforcement), but it provides savings on the manufacture of the floor. In addition, it is recommended for construction on weak-bearing soils. Unfortunately, it cannot be used on a site that has a slope.

Attention: before making any type of foundation, remove the surface layer of soil.

Assembly of a fireproof garage

Metal frame are made differently. As carriers structural elements Until recently, they used rolled corners (for example, 50×50). With the expansion of the range of rolled metal, they began to use rectangular pipes(for racks, for example, 100x100, for crossbars - 60x60). The frame is assembled using fasteners, or the old fashioned way - using a welding machine.

A bolted connection will be more expensive because, in addition to fasteners, expensive connecting elements will be required. The advantage is the ability to dismantle and sell the garage when it becomes unnecessary.

A welded frame garage will be somewhat cheaper and, in addition, stronger. But it may be possible to sell it only by cutting it with an autogenous machine. After all, space for vehicles with crane may not be on the site.

Today, you can assemble a frame garage with your own hands from light steel structures(LSTK). They are a set of galvanized C-section profiles, sheathing and additional elements, wall sheets and roofing sheeting, fasteners. The kit includes Alutech overhead sectional doors.

Assembly sequence

  1. Assemble the lower trim, connecting it to the foundation.
  2. Install the vertical posts, temporarily securing them together.
  3. Mount the top strap, and then finally connect all the racks with crossbars.
  4. Assemble a triangular roof truss on a level surface. Using slightly inclined ones, lift it onto the top frame and secure it to the rear of the structure.
  5. In this way, install all the trusses and fasten them together.
  6. Install entrance gates at your discretion: swing, sliding, sectional-lifting.
  7. Perform external and internal cladding. The material can be anything: outside - corrugated board, siding, inside - OSB, drywall.

We build from wood

The wooden garage building is in harmony with residential building, made of timber or rounded logs. However, building a garage from solid wood is not affordable for everyone. A frame garage made from wood has the same qualities without being too heavy on your wallet. Let's consider the main stages of construction.

Step by step instructions

Wood frame garage

  • Step 1

Put on slab foundation the lower trim, securing it with anchors to concrete base. The strapping is a board or beam, the width of which is the same as the dimensions vertical racks, and the thickness is 50 mm. If you are building a frame garage with your own hands, do not forget to lay two layers first roll waterproofing: glassine, bicrost, technoNIKOL or other brands.

  • Step 2

Install wooden racks from timber with a section of 100×100 or 150×150 mm. They are placed strictly vertically in level and temporarily strengthened with jibs. Two posts are added to hang the gate.

  • Step 3

The upper ends of the racks are connected with strapping made of the same timber as for the racks. The harness will bear the load from truss structure, so a thickness of 50 mm will not be sufficient for it.

  • Step 4

Mount the rafter legs. The material for them is boards with a section of 100×50 or 150×40, placed on edge. At the same time, the 150×40 board is almost twice as rigid in deflection. The pitch of the rafters should not exceed 60 cm. To prevent the side walls of the garage from moving apart under the influence of snow loads, bottom part rafter legs connected with ties from a 100×50 board, which will simultaneously serve load-bearing base for garage mezzanines.

  • Step 5

The roof covering is being installed. The choice of materials is large: corrugated sheets, metal tiles, ondulin.

  • Step 6

The gates are hung, the outer walls are sheathed. After attaching the rough covering of plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), a wind barrier film is attached. Then the final cladding is attached to the additional sheathing: clapboard, siding or block house.

Take note: to avoid the formation of residues when covering the frame with OSB slabs, choose the dimensions of the garage as multiples of the size of the slabs (1220, sometimes 1250 mm)

Half-timbered timber - an option for aesthetes

You can build a frame garage with your own hands using an old construction technology when the space between the elements of a wooden frame is filled brickwork(half-timbered). The building will look original. True, the frame will have to be made of massive timber (no less than 150x150). Otherwise, the structure will not be strong enough.

Internal equipment

The construction is completed, there is a place to shelter the car from bad weather, but this is not enough for a full-fledged habitat. There are still a few finishing steps left to complete.

  • First of all, a frame garage must be equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation. Otherwise, there will be increased humidity inside, which will not benefit both the garage and the car.
  • The solution to this problem will also be helped by insulating the walls and ceiling, which is carried out simultaneously with the installation of the inner lining (plasterboard or OSB, for example).
  • And finally, a garage without light is nonsense. You will have to become an electrician for a while, and this will help you acquire additional knowledge and skills.

After reading this article, we can conclude that most people can make a frame garage with their own hands.

If you want to build yourself a garage quickly, inexpensively and without the use of heavy equipment, then a do-it-yourself wooden garage is your choice. The material is affordable, has many advantages and can last quite a long time. But for this you need to adhere to construction technology. The tree must be treated with protective agents.

What's next? You will learn more from this article. We will tell you how you can make your own wooden building as a garage. You will see a diagram, photos and videos that will help you with the work.

Choosing a construction method

There are two main technologies for building a garage made of wood. They are significantly different from each other. What kind of technology is this?

  1. Construction of a garage from rounded logs.
  2. Construction of a frame structure from OSB boards or plywood.

What are the differences between these technologies? In short, rounded logs will cost you more, but a wooden garage will last longer. And as for frame version, then it is faster and cheaper, but not as reliable. However, most often they choose the second option. Frame structures do their job perfectly, and you can decorate the building with any material. In terms of practicality, it is more profitable frame technology construction. You can see frame wooden garages in the photos attached.

Building a garage out of wood is an excellent option. Wood is 100% environmentally friendly, can “breathe”, has excellent thermal characteristics, and can also last a long time. We’re not even talking about the accessibility and ease of working with it. Since building a frame structure is a popular option, let's find out how you can build a wooden garage, the size of which will be 6x4 m.

Construction of a 6x4 garage

So, we will look at the technology for constructing a standard garage, the size of which will be 6 × 4 m and the height 3 m. The wooden gates for the garage will be made 2.8 × 2.5 m in size. As for the foundation, it will be monolithic, in the form reinforced slab. The frame of the building is made of 100×100 mm bars. The cladding is made of OSB boards. Now we will analyze in more detail all stages of construction.

Preparing the base for the garage

When you have in your hands all the necessary drawings, a construction plan and materials for its construction, you can begin preparing for construction. First, you need to know where exactly on the site your garage will be located. Then, it is important to pay special attention to this:

  • remove all garbage;
  • clear the space of bushes, trees and extraneous buildings;
  • take off fertile layer soil.

After all the steps are done, you can begin to work on the foundation for your wooden garage.

Foundation structure

Advantage wooden structures is that they are light. So it turns out that to build them you don’t need to deepen the foundation much and make it particularly stable. You need to make a shallow monolithic slab foundation. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

All you have to do is wait until the base dries. This will take at least a month.

Pay attention! To reduce the cost of construction and make construction much faster, you can use a columnar foundation. Since the structure of a 6x4 garage is not heavy, it will do the job quite well.

We build a garage frame

We mentioned that the frame of a wooden garage will be made of bars with a cross-section of 100x100 mm. This is quite enough for the reliability of the construction. What will the finished frame consist of?

Here are the basic elements you need to know:

  • lower trim (crowns);
  • vertical racks;
  • struts to strengthen the frame;
  • top trim.

First of all, beams are laid on the foundation, acting as the lower frame.

Advice! Before laying them, it is worth waterproofing the foundation with roofing felt or other material.

The lower frame is fixed to the concrete with anchors. The bars are also fastened together. When the bottom trim is ready, begin installing the vertical posts at the corners.

The vertical posts are fixed using metal corners on both sides. And in order to give the structure additional rigidity and reliability, angular slopes are mounted, as shown in the figure.

Please note that the corner bevels will be placed on the inside of the frame. This is done so that there is free space for covering our wooden garage with OSB boards.

When all the corner supports are installed, you can make the top trim. It is done according to the same principle as the bottom one. Everything is securely fastened with metal corners and jibs. When you have built the main structure, additional posts are installed around the perimeter to strengthen the structure. After all, the size of the garage is 6x4 m, so you can’t do without them. The photo shows how additional supports can be attached.

Advice! If you want to give the structure even more rigidity, you can make transverse stiffeners. Then fixing the OSB will be even easier and more reliable.

We cover the frame with OSB

Now all that remains is to sheathe finished design OSB boards. This is the best option. From the outside they are protected from wind and bad weather by a membrane and finishing material. To make your garage warm, you can use insulation. Then the walls will resemble a sandwich. After covering the perimeter of the garage with OSB boards, foam plastic, mineral wool or other insulation, it is placed in the space between the racks. Everything is sheathed with a vapor barrier film, after which it is sewn up either with the same OSB boards or with other finishing material.

How exactly does the process of covering the frame take place using OSB boards, you can see from this video.

However, OSB is not the only cladding option. For this purpose, you can use other materials, such as lining, wooden boards, siding, corrugated board, etc. Nobody limits you here, decide for yourself.

Roofing device

As for the roof, it can be of two types: gable or single-pitch. Its installation will require a rafter system and cladding material. It all comes down to the fact that the corresponding grooves are made in the frame and on top, to which the rafters will be mounted. Bars with a cross section of 40×100 mm can be used as rafters. In the photo you can see flat version roofs.

Next, the sheathing is made and laid roofing material. Most often used for garages bitumen shingles, corrugated sheets, metal tiles, slate or ondulin. Which material to choose is a purely personal matter.

Let's sum it up

We can say with confidence that your wooden garage is almost ready. All that remains is to work on the floor, which can be done in different ways. Since your foundation is made of a monolithic slab, it is better to protect the concrete. It can be painted or covered with tiles. In the end, all that remains is to make a wooden gate, install it in its place and check the closing and opening. To prevent your garage from being broken into by intruders, take care of high-quality locks. So quickly and easily, you can build a wooden garage on your site yourself. It will serve for a long time, fully performing all assigned tasks.
