A sauna is a place in constant contact with water. Therefore, the requirements for installing bathhouse and sauna doors are building materials, elevated. In particular, protection from heat, moisture and all the consequences associated with this is very important. Detailed Description installing a glass door to the sauna will allow you to install it correctly and be satisfied with the result for a long time.

Installation diagram for a glass door to a sauna

Choosing a door to a sauna or bathhouse involves purchasing the right breed wood and subsequent coating. You can learn more about this from master finishers. To properly install glass doors to a sauna, you will need the following:

  • canvas with glass inserts or entirely made of heat-resistant, impact-resistant glass;
  • door frame components;
  • accessories - iron hinges and wooden handles;
  • platbands;
  • fasteners from stainless steel;
  • insulation and moisture-repellent material.

The actual installation of a glass door to a sauna is not too different from the installation process interior options. Special equipment you will need:

  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • glass cutter;
  • hacksaw;
  • level and pencil with a square.

Glass door process

Glass sliding door mechanisms.

If the proposed door model differs from the leaf with glass inserts in that it is a completely transparent surface, the peculiarity of the work is as follows: the leaf is adjusted to the size of the doorway, taking into account the thickness of the door frame, that is, 3-5 cm less than the total width. Stores offer a wide selection of glass doors with ready-made hinges, so you don’t have to mess around when installing the main structure.

If the owner decided to do everything himself, then he will have to work with a glass cutter. It is worth considering that the texture of the canvas will differ from simple glass and will require a lot of effort for cutting, because the material for the door to a sauna or bathhouse has increased strength.

Having cut out the door leaf, you need to drill holes for the hinges and secure the “mother” on it with small fasteners, and the “father” on the vertical frame guide. You need to decide in which direction the doors will open right away in order to place the parts of the door hinges on identical sides.

After this, the box is installed and assembled. Its material is usually wood, but plastic is not forbidden. It is important that the door to the sauna or bathhouse is mounted with a threshold, so the frame consists of 4 parts, and not 3, like interior ones. There is no threshold only in the rooms separating the washing compartments. To make the box perfectly level, work is carried out using a level, and during the process the canvas is regularly hung on the hinges to check for alignment or distortion.

Diagram of a two-chamber door for a sauna.

When the box is installed, the space between it and the wall is filled with foam, as it has better moisture resistance. The pieces should be compacted carefully and not allowed to protrude out. If this does happen, the excess is cut off.

In order to give the doors a finished look, the areas with filler are covered with additional strips. They are either screwed onto self-tapping screws during installation, or nailed with small nails. As a rule, they do not make locks on glass doors - only decorative locks. Their selection in construction accessories stores is rich.

But wooden doors to the bathhouse still break all records for popularity. Firstly, their installation is faster due to the strength of the structure, and secondly, it traditional version, well, and thirdly, the price of wooden panels is lower than that of glass. But since the glass in the sauna looks very attractive, the owners still want to install it. There is a solution - you can combine business with pleasure and use bath door models with glass inserts.

Wooden doors with glass inserts are not painted or varnished. It’s worth taking this into account when purchasing and immediately purchasing what you need, without additional finishing.

The door to the sauna with glass inserts, hollow inside, can be insulated in an interesting way, removing them from their grooves and filling the internal space with soft insulation: mineral wool, polystyrene foam, etc. The material can be compacted wooden handle for a shovel. After this, the glass inserts are mounted back, having previously coated the grooves with silicone. After hardening and cutting off excess silicone, the glass will not move and will not rattle.

The canvas is cut using a hacksaw to the right size.

Glass door fastening diagram.

The tool must be very sharp, with fine teeth, so as not to damage appearance designs. The door to the bathhouse must have a threshold, so when sawing, you need to take into account its height.

After this, mark the places for the hinges on the canvas and the vertical guide of the box. Usually it is 20-30 cm from the edges. The loops are screwed to both sides and the workpiece is tried on.

Now it’s time to install the door frame. Before inserting it, you must drill holes for the dowels in doorway. If the structure of the bathhouse is also wooden, this need not be done. The box is assembled using a level, a screwdriver and self-tapping screws for this purpose. First comes the installation of the three parts of the box, and then the threshold. You can and should use spacer wedges: they will help fix the door in the desired condition to assess compliance with the level.

After installing the door frame, hang the leaf and nail the trims, having previously filled the voids between the wall and the wooden guides with insulation - foam plastic. Handles on sauna doors should only be wooden; you can get burned on other materials, since the sauna temperature is more than 100 degrees. As for glass inserts, for better operation of such a door, the glass is sealed using silicone sealant. This way it will vibrate less and last longer.

Summing up

The variety of glass doors to the sauna is amazing: matte transparent, with ornaments or nobly darkened, with ready-made fittings or bare panel - for every taste and budget. By the way, the price of such doors is not too low, as is the cost of installing it in a bathhouse.

There is no easy installation of a glass door or with inserts. Requires minimum usage skills construction tool. However, high-quality installation is possible if all the rules stated above are observed. And the bathhouse will become the whole family’s favorite place for pleasant healing and relaxation.

A bathhouse is a room that is constantly exposed to moisture. Therefore, installing a door to a steam room in a bathhouse requires a careful approach. First you need to choose a glass door that will meet all security requirements.

Currently, there are several types of glass doors for steam rooms:

  1. Convenient pendulum structures in steam baths can easily open in two directions. And with the help of a magnetic closer, it opens and closes smoothly.
  2. The hinged glass door of the steam bath can only open in one direction, and it is installed in a wooden frame using hinged hinges (butterflies) made of stainless steel. The handles for the glass door to the bathhouse and the frame structure are made of non-coniferous wood.
  3. A sliding glass door for a steam room is an excellent option if the dimensions of the room do not allow the installation of a swing or pendulum structure.

Glass for door leaf in a steam bath should be made of impact- and heat-resistant material with a thickness of about 7-8 mm.

Installation of a glass door in a steam room is carried out before final finishing walls The doors to the steam room must close tightly to retain heat in the room.

When choosing glass for installing a door in a steam room, it is necessary to take into account the operating conditions. Heat-resistant glass comes in 3 categories: A1, A and A3. Experts recommend installing durable glass panels measuring 190x70 cm, category A3, into the steam room. They can withstand a blow equal to a force of 3382 kgf/m², and the fall of a heavy object (about 100 kg) from a height of up to 10 m. Such high strength characteristics of glass are achieved through the use of special process hardening, in which softening of the material occurs, changing the composition of its crystal lattice. As a result of subsequent extreme cooling, the degree of thermal resistance of glass increases several times.

Advantages of a glass door for a steam room

  1. Glass is environmentally friendly, safe material, which will not harm people even at high humidity.
  2. This material perfectly tolerates even extremely high temperatures and humidity, so it will serve for a long time without changing its characteristics.
  3. Due to the application of an armored durable film, the glass sheet is reliably protected from mechanical damage.
  4. Install glass hinged, pendulum or sliding structures You can go to the steam room with your own hands in a few hours, without resorting to outside help.
  5. The glass structure helps to visually expand the parameters of the steam room, making it lighter and more spacious.

Instructions for installing glass doors

  1. We begin to install the wooden box so that there is a distance of 5-7 cm between the floor and the door. This is necessary so that it opens and closes easily.
  2. When installing a wooden pane, we maintain precise geometry so that the glass sheet can fit into it without distortion. Using a building level, we attach the box to the wall using long anchors. In order to easily align the box while maintaining the evenness of the corners, we make its dimensions slightly smaller than the doorway.
  3. We fill all the gaps and voids polyurethane foam. After it dries, cut off the excess with a sharp knife.
  4. We carefully place the silicone soft insulation into the formed grooves of the door frame.
  5. We attach the hanging loops to the canvas in the holes made by the manufacturer. We put soft pads under them.
  6. We expose the door and carefully screw the hinges to the frame.
  7. We screw the handles with soft silicone gaskets to the glass sheet.
  8. We process everything carefully wooden elements door design special impregnation and then coated with waterproof varnish.

Installation instructions for sliding glass doors

Sliding door to the bathhouse
  1. We measure the canvas using a tape measure and add about 15 cm to the resulting figure for precise fastening of the guides. We mark both sides of the opening and then connect these points using a level. Before drawing a line, it is necessary to check the accuracy of the door location. The line must be exactly parallel to the ground.
  2. Then we check the width of the opening. The gap should be at least 5 cm.
  3. We attach two guides for installing the canvas. A larger number of high-quality rollers will be needed to ensure that the door fits without distortion and is more resistant to movement.
  4. We fasten along a precisely drawn line. To do this, mark the points and attach metal guides. If the plane is made of wood, then in this case we use self-tapping screws. In a base made of brick or concrete, you need to make holes of the required size using a hammer drill, and then use dowels to attach the guides.
  5. Experts recommend purchasing all fasteners separately.
  6. After the guides are installed, we assemble the carriages. To do this, fold them and tighten the bolts. There is no need to press hard at first so that you can easily install them on the guides.
  7. For a more durable fastening, we install brackets. Their number depends on the number of rollers in the door.
  8. Then we take the glass door and install it into the top rail carriage. We carefully insert them into the grooves and secure them with bolts. We immediately adjust the door.
  9. When installing the glass sheet, it is necessary to press it using paranit gaskets.
  10. Using a level, we check the correctness and accuracy of the door installation, the ease of its movement along the guides when opening and closing.

At correct installation The glass structure in the sauna steam room will serve you for many years.

The traditional material for a bathhouse is wood, but this does not mean that other materials cannot be used. It is even possible if their characteristics are not inferior to or superior to wood. Enough a shining example A worthy replacement are glass doors for a bath or sauna. When using glass doors in a steam room, there are practically no negative aspects.

There are three main disadvantages:

  • Great price (it's justified).
  • Thermal conductivity is higher than that of wood, but special doors for baths and saunas use tempered glass, which not only transfers high temperatures, but also has reduced thermal conductivity. It is impossible to get burned by touching such doors.
  • Fragility. This problem is partially solved by tempering: the treated glass is not so fragile, and when it breaks, it breaks into many fragments without sharp edges. Also, to increase strength in the manufacture of glass doors to the bathhouse, glass with a thickness of at least 8 mm is used. Both hardening and thickness affect the cost, so good glass doors cost a lot, but they are not easy to break.

Glass doors to the steam room with a pattern

These are, perhaps, all the shortcomings. But there are plenty of advantages:

  • Through the glass door you can see people in the steam room. From a safety point of view, this is great: you can come to the rescue in a timely manner if you suddenly feel sick.
  • It becomes lighter in the steam room and this light is dim, diffused, pleasant to the eye and conducive to relaxation.
  • The service life of a glass door to a bathhouse made of tempered glass practically unlimited, unless it is broken.
  • Cleaning glass doors in a bathhouse is much easier than cleaning wooden doors. Any detergent is suitable.
  • There is no threat to the glass doors in the steam room; there is simply no room for them to multiply on a timely cleaned glass surface.
  • No deformation under any operating conditions: neither temperature, nor humidity, nor their changes and differences in any way affect the dimensions of the glass door leaf.
  • Modern glass doors for a sauna or bathhouse are beautiful.
glass door for a bath

Despite all the advantages of glass doors, not everyone recommends installing them in a bathhouse. This is due to the fact that it is important to retain steam in the steam room of a Russian bath. To do this, make a high threshold - at least 10 cm, and a door leaf that fits tightly to the jamb. In a sauna, on the contrary, a gap is often made under the door leaf to ensure air flow. Therefore, you can safely install glass doors in the sauna.

For lovers high quality, we can recommend products from the Finnish company Harvia. We have already told you earlier, but in addition to stoves, the company produces a large assortment of glass doors for saunas and baths.

Glass doors for baths and saunas from the Finnish company Harvia. Glass color (from left to right): bronze, gray, white, satin (matte)

After reading the reviews of those who have a glass door installed in a Russian bathhouse, we came to the conclusion: it is also possible to install glass doors in a bathhouse. And this will not interfere with retaining steam at all. The doors should open outward “from the steam room” (to the right or left, as is convenient), and they can be installed so that it is possible to fill a threshold on the side of the steam room, which perfectly retains all the moisture inside. Good glass doors are made in such a way that they practically do not allow steam to pass through at the points of contact with the frame (the kit includes a seal that is inserted into the frame). So they install a glass door in the bathhouse and don’t complain.

According to reviews from bath attendants, some use the glass door to determine the humidity in the steam room - they say it “works” no worse than a hygrometer, some are pleased with the ease of care, but everyone unanimously claims that they have no regrets. And the main advantage of a glass door to a Russian bath is that it does not react to changes in humidity: it does not swell or shrink, because any wooden door either swells or shrinks. Because of this, it is difficult to open/close it, which is not good, then large gaps, through which the same steam escapes and heat loss increases. Everyone who has installed glass doors in their bathhouse or sauna definitely advises, in addition to the quality of the glass, to pay attention to the fittings.

When choosing a glass door for a bathhouse or sauna, try to find a model with three or more canopies. The thickness of the glass for a door to a sauna or bathhouse must be at least 7 mm, and such a monolith weighs a lot. And two hinges often don’t hold up and break. Even if there are two holders, pay attention to the possibility of replacing them or installing additional ones. Hinges for a glass door to a sauna must be made of stainless steel or any material that is not subject to corrosion.

It is worth paying attention to the latch. Glass sauna doors, which cost less, often have a ball latch installed. The disadvantage of ball latches is that they often jam and can cause unpleasant moments at the most inopportune moment (you were about to jump out of the steam room and tip it over yourself, but the door does not open). Most ideal option for the door to the steam room - magnetic latches of three or four elements. They are always functional.

Door fittings also include handles. Wooden handles are usually installed on glass doors to a sauna or bathhouse. When purchasing, make sure that they are comfortable and located at the desired height. For greater comfort and reliability, special silicone gaskets are often placed between the handles and the glass door - this is not an unnecessary precaution.

Installing a glass door in a sauna or bathhouse

There is one fundamental difference in installing a door in a sauna or bathhouse:

in the sauna there is no threshold in the steam room, and the gap between the door leaf and the floor does not close. In a bathhouse, a threshold is desirable - it will help retain moisture in the steam room. This should be taken into account when choosing a glass door and determining its size.

Glass doors for a sauna can have metal or wooden box. The steel box is installed up to finishing walls, wooden - after. This is their main difference.

If you decide to install it yourself, you will need an assistant - the canvas weighs a lot ( square meter 7 mm thick canvas weighs about 25 kilograms) and it will be difficult to hold it alone without installation experience.

Advice: when unpacking, place it next to wooden planks from her: it’s convenient to lay glass sheets on them and then you won’t have to solve the problem of how to lift it from the floor.

In order to detach the glass from the frame, you need to loosen the fastening screws on the hinges and bend them on the opposite side. After this, the glass can be lifted and placed on wooden slats.

During installation, you can change the direction of door opening - left or right - by changing the location of the jamb. Having chosen the direction of opening the door, install the box in the opening. Use wedges to secure. Be sure to check that the installation is vertical. This determines how easy it is to open/close the door and how long it will last.

Once positioned, lightly tighten the screws at the top of the box on the side where the hinges are located and check again that they are vertical. Repeat the procedure with the fasteners on the other side. Once you have finally installed the box, tighten the screws as tightly as possible. The box is installed.

The next step will be installing the glass. It needs to be inserted into the loops and tightened. At this stage, an assistant is simply necessary: one holds the glass, the other tightens the fastener.

It is easy to check whether the door is installed correctly or not: you need to close the doors and check the gaps. If everything is done correctly, the gaps are the same, and the canvas fits tightly to the seal. Now you can install the latch and handle. The installation of a glass door in a sauna or bathhouse is completed.

Having some skill, installing doors will not be difficult, otherwise it is better to entrust the installation of a glass door to professionals: buying a new one will be much more expensive...

A professional can install a glass door alone. The video below shows how a middle-aged Finn installs a door to a sauna.

You can install glass doors not only in a bathhouse or sauna. They will fit perfectly into: modern technologies allow you to apply a variety of designs of varying complexity and themes. The rules for choosing a glass door and installing it in a hammam are no different.

Advice: It is better to install either a frosted glass door or one with a pattern in the steam room. There were cases when they simply didn’t notice the transparent one and “opened” it with their heads :)

When building a bathhouse, be it a Russian steam room, a Finnish sauna or a hammam, the developer is faced with the problem of choosing a door. To build, you need at least two doors. One is the entrance door to the bathhouse, and the other is to the steam room. Accordingly, if provided more premises inside the bathhouse, this means more doors will be needed. There are many options on the market - from massive wooden doors to the trembling glass structures. Today we will talk about glass doors for baths.

Advantages of a glass door

There is a prejudice that wooden or combined (glass and wood) doors are usually installed in a Russian bathhouse, and doors that are entirely made of glass are installed in a sauna. This is completely false, and modern technology has successfully debunked this myth.

The latest developments by designers, glass doors for baths and saunas, allow you to completely change the appearance of this room. The bathhouse becomes much more modern, comfortable and spacious. And if you remember that the service life of glass is much longer than wood, then doubts about this disappear altogether.

In order for glass doors in a bathhouse to meet the owner’s expectations and serve for a long time, they must meet certain requirements. Doors must be made of a material that has a number of properties: tightness and safety are brought to the fore. The glass must be heat-resistant, impact-resistant and tempered.

The advantage of glass doors lies in the fact that they do not deform, are moisture-resistant and do not emit resin. The service life of a glass door is much longer than a wooden one, which is an undeniable advantage.

These doors are practical, convenient, easy by special means They are cleaned of dirt and have a decent service life. When using glass in the interior, the space visually increases, as light passes through the glass door into the adjacent room.

Glass door production technology

The creation of such doors dates back to the last century. Now specialists assemble door blocks from high-quality materials according to the latest technologies. Geometry door block and precise dimensions make it possible to withstand special way assemblies. Absolute control over the manufacturing process of a glass door for a bath allows us to talk about full compatibility glass door frame.

The technology for producing such glass is as follows: it is heated to a temperature of 700 degrees Celsius, and then cooled sharply and evenly by blowing air. With such tempering, the glass becomes heat-resistant, safety also increases, and resistance to mechanical damage increases.

As a rule, such doors have a glass thickness of at least 8 millimeters. If glass breaks, it shatters into small pieces with blunt edges, which leads to a minimal likelihood of cuts. Typically this glass has a bronze color. It can be matte, which gives the atmosphere an intimate atmosphere, or transparent, making the steamy room brighter.

One of the disadvantages of glass doors and most likely the only one is high thermal conductivity, if you compare the product with a wooden one.

Types of glass doors

Nowadays, the domestic market provides huge selection glass doors that use patterned, frosted, mirror or translucent glass. Available different options doors: gray, transparent, green or frosted glass, as well as bronze glass doors, they are all perfect for installation in a bathhouse. Hinges for glass bath doors are made of anti-corrosion material and allow right- or left-hand opening. Door handles and door frames are made from deciduous trees. Such wood is much less susceptible to deformation under large changes in humidity and temperature, does not emit resin and does not rot, and is well suited for decoration. doorways, as well as for the manufacture necessary furniture and finishing of the bath.

Installing a glass door in a bathhouse

It’s worth remembering first that a glass door, naturally, is not suitable as an entrance door to a bathhouse. For this purpose, you can make a solid door from high-quality wood. Glass doors are designed for installation directly into the steam room itself.

For installation, one assistant is needed to hold the door in a certain position, since the door is quite heavy, despite small sizes glass door. When installing a glass door, you must leave a bottom gap of up to 5 millimeters.

The main purpose of a sauna door is to maintain warmth. Therefore, glass doors must be very well sealed around the entire perimeter. A special silicone seal is used for this, but you should always remember about the hole for fresh air.

For the same purpose, all doors, including the external entrance, are made smaller than the usual dimensions of a glass bath door. Entrance door the steam room is located in a special control zone; for other rooms, ordinary standard designs are also suitable.

To protect the edges of solid glass from impacts and mechanical damage, there is interesting solution- you can choose wooden planks that suit the style; they should be used to secure the glass on both sides with screws. Then you won’t have to worry about its safety again.

The sauna door can be cleaned using regular detergents for sanitary areas, rinse thoroughly with water. After washing, dry the door!

Remove dried scale stains using a diluted solution. acetic acid, rinse and dry the door! To wipe, use a window cleaning cloth.

Caring for the box:

Untreated pine frames must be treated immediately after installation with a preservative (eg SUPI brand products, see www.vivacolor.ee), which slows down the characteristic changes in wood under conditions of constant humidity (eg mold, etc.). The box, painted black, can be washed with water and cared for with a damp cloth.
