Crafts for the New Year from a jar. Christmas tree in a jar. Step-by-step algorithm of work

It’s not difficult to make it yourself, and almost all of its components can be found at home.

DIY snow globe| Components

  • Jar with screw cap. Ideally, the lid should be screwed on tightly. If you take a jar and a lid from ready-made canned food, do not count on tightness. I took a jar of compote, so I had to strengthen and seal the threads to prevent leakage.
  • Decorations. Would be good for this role Christmas decorations. Houses and Christmas trees look especially good with snow on top. I didn’t take this moment into account right away, so I had to take a lot of shots so that Santa Claus’s face wouldn’t be hidden in the snow.
  • Glue. Glue is needed to glue the decoration to the lid. Many people praise the glue gun, but I didn’t want to buy one specifically for the snow globe. I made do with a tube of super glue.
  • Imitation of snow. It could be artificial snow, glitter or even shredded white plastic utensils. I bought regular silver glitter, but in the process I realized that they didn’t fit color scheme to our ball. Artificial snow in small town It’s not so easy to find, so I had to limit myself to homemade “snow” from plastic toy packaging.

Homemade artificial snow

  • Glycerol. It is needed so that the “snow” falls slowly. This occurs due to an increase in the viscosity of water. The amount of glycerin depends on the selected type of “snow”. Large snowflakes will require more glycerin. I have a 400 ml jar. It took 4 bottles of glycerin, 25 grams each. With a 1:1 ratio of water and glycerin, snowflakes will float in the water almost without sinking to the bottom.
  • Water. If you decide to make a ball for long-term storage or as a gift, then you will need distilled water and some kind of disinfectant for jewelry. There is no guarantee that the jewelry is sterile and that its microbes will not cause cloudiness in the water. For a ball that is not planned to be stored for a long time, any clean clear water. I used tap water. The first time I was unlucky, there was a whitish sediment in the jar, which spoiled appearance. For the second time, I used pre-settled water.
  • Rubber medical gloves. They are needed if you are not sure about the tightness of the lid. Gloves are convenient to use as a sealant for threads.

But we're in website sure - Christmas mood will not keep you waiting if with my own hands make one of these wonderful decorations for your home and Christmas tree. Almost all of them, with the exception of two or three, do not require much time and any special materials - they can be made in half an hour from what is at hand.

Stars made of threads

Wreath made of balloons and an old hanger

In just half an hour, you can make a colorful wreath by purchasing a couple of sets of inexpensive balloons. Blogger Jennifer, the author of this article, recommends straightening out an old hanger, but if you don't have one, a piece of strong wire will do just fine.

  • You will need: a couple of sets of balls (20-25 balls different colors and sizes), wire hanger or wire, spruce branches, braid or ready-made decoration for decorating a wreath.

Tablecloth made of snowflakes

A delicate and surprisingly festive tablecloth will be made from snowflakes, which we have gotten our hands on since childhood. You can sit down and cut out snowflakes with the whole family, and then lay them out on the table and fasten them with small pieces of tape. Great solution for receiving guests or just having lunch with family during the holidays.

Multi-colored hats

The cutest colored hats can be made from leftover yarn, from which you can put together a garland for a Christmas tree or to decorate a wall. Or hang them on a window or chandelier at different levels. Children over five years old will also cope well with this simple decoration. See details.

  • You will need: bushing toilet paper for rings (or regular cardboard or thick paper), scissors, colorful yarn and a good mood.

Lamp “Snowy City”

For this charming lamp, you need to measure a piece of paper around the circumference of the jar with a small margin (for gluing), draw and cut out a simple city or forest landscape. Wrap it around the jar and place a candle inside.

  • You will need: a jar, thick paper of any color, maybe white, any candle. Another option is to cover the top of the jar with “falling snow” using a special “snow” spray, which is sold in hobby stores.

Balloons with photos

A great idea for decorating a Christmas tree or as a gift for relatives and friends. The photo needs to be rolled into a tube so that it fits into the hole of the ball, and then straightened out with a wooden stick or tweezers. Small black and white rectangular photographs are suitable, and you can also cut the photo according to the shape of a ball or silhouette (as in the case of a cat in the snow).

  • You will need: plastic or glass balls, photographs, various things to fill the ball - tinsel, garlands, coarse salt (for snow).

New Year's lamps

And this miracle is a matter of five minutes. It is enough to collect balls, fir branches, cones and put them in a transparent vase (or a cute jar) and add glowing garlands.

Embers

Glowing garlands, hidden among cones, branches and pine paws, create the effect of smoldering coals in the fireplace or a cozy fire. They even seem to be heating up. For this purpose, a basket that has been lying on the balcony for a hundred years, a nice bucket or, for example, a wicker container for small items from Ikea will be suitable. You will find everything else (except for the garland, of course) in the park.

Floating candles

A very simple decoration for New Year's table or for a cozy evening with friends during the New Year holidays - a composition with candles floating in a vessel with water, cranberries and pine branches. You can use cones, orange slices, fresh flowers and leaves from flower shop- whatever your imagination tells you. And as a candlestick - deep plates, vases, jars, glasses, the main thing is that they are transparent.

Snowman on the refrigerator or door

Children will definitely be delighted with this - it’s fast, fun and very simple, because even a three-year-old can handle cutting out large parts. It is enough to cut out circles, a nose and a scarf from self-adhesive paper, wrapping paper or colored cardboard and attach them to regular or double-sided tape.

Snowflakes on the window

Interesting use for a glue gun lying around. In order to glue these snowflakes to the glass, just press them lightly to the surface. For details see our video.

  • You will need: a stencil with a snowflake drawn with a black marker, tracing paper (parchment, baking paper), glue gun and a little patience.

Christmas trees-candies

Bright Christmas trees can be built together with the kids for children's party or decorate your holiday table with them. Cut out triangles from colored paper or cardboard, attach with tape to a toothpick and stick the resulting Christmas trees into the candies.

  • You will need: Hershey's Kisses or any other truffle candies, toothpicks, tape, colored paper or cardboard with a pattern.

Garland with photographs and drawings

New Year, Christmas - warm, family holidays. And it will come in very handy with photographs, children's drawings, and pictures. The easiest way to secure them is with clothespins, which can be decorated with hearts or snowflakes.

Origami star

Painted spoons

Regular metal spoons or wooden spoons for cooking with acrylic paints turn into interesting New Year decorations. Kids will definitely love this idea. If you bend the handle of metal spoons, you can hang them on the Christmas tree. And wooden spoons will look great in the kitchen or in a bouquet with fir branches.

A fascinating and magical holiday. At this time of year, everyone wants to give and receive gifts. In this article you will read how to " snow globe"with your own hands to please your loved ones.

Why make a "snow globe"?

Before starting any work, a person asks himself: “Why am I taking on this particular business?” In the case of this craft, this question is easy to answer. Firstly, everyone loves to receive gifts made with their own hands, especially in modern world it's also very fashionable. Secondly, such original gift Even children can do it, which is even more valuable.

Thirdly, the New Year's “snow globe” looks beautiful, symbolic, and is suitable for a person of any age. And if you use your imagination, you can create a unique and memorable surprise! And to make it you will need very little time and minimal financial costs.

What is needed for the job?

In 1889, the New Year's "snow globe" was made for the first time. It was presented in Paris and had small size(could fit in the palm of your hand). A copy of the famous Eiffel Tower, and the role of snow was played by fine sifted porcelain and sand. Today, anyone can create a “snow globe” with their own hands. How to make such a miracle? Let's start by preparing the necessary things. So, you will need:

  • Glass jar with a locking lid. It is better that the container is airtight, otherwise you will have to strengthen the screwing point to prevent the craft from leaking;
  • Figures to create the main composition - these can be houses, animals, Christmas trees, and so on.

  • Glue gun or good super glue.
  • Distilled water. If you take an unrefined liquid, it will darken over time, ruining the appearance of the craft.
  • Artificial snow - it can be played by sparkles and finely chopped tinsel. Some even use chopped disposable tableware or polystyrene foam.
  • Glycerin - for thickening water. It is he who will help you see how the snow falls in your ball.
  • Decorations for the lid.

Let's get started

When all the necessary preparations are completed, you can proceed directly to creating the ball. To begin, thoroughly wash the jar and figurines to create the display. You can even pour boiling water over them. This is done to better preserve the snow globe from the jar. If any bacteria remain on the figures, the craft will quickly become cloudy.

Now start creating a decorative composition on the lid. Wipe the underside of the lid sandpaper, so the glue will adhere better. Then treat the surface with glue and install the figure of your choice. Work quickly before the compound dries.

If the base of your figure is very narrow (for example, like a Christmas tree), place a couple of pebbles on the lid, and install the tree between them.

Place the shapes in the center of the lid and do not make them too wide, otherwise they simply will not fit into your “snow globe” with glycerin. When the plot is ready, set the lid aside. The glue must dry completely!

You can also place your figurine on a snowdrift. Cut it out of foam, glue it to the lid and paint it with white paint.

Treat the snowdrift with glue and sprinkle with glitter. A wonderful platform for fairy-tale characters is ready! Now you can place any hero on it. You can create a unique figurine if you mold it yourself from polymer clay.

Preparing the solution and artificial snow

In the question of how to make a “snow globe” with your own hands, the nuance of preparing a solution of the required consistency is very important. Take a jar and fill it three-quarters full with water. Then pour in 2-3 teaspoons of glycerin (you can buy it at the pharmacy and it is very inexpensive). The amount of glycerin determines how slowly the snow falls in the composition. When the solution is ready, the children’s favorite stage begins - loading “snow” into the jar. Carefully place the glitter into your balloon. Their number depends only on your desires, but you should not put too many sparkles, otherwise they will cover the entire view of the composition. Gold and silver glitter work best, but you can use any shade.

If you don’t have glitter on hand, a white eggshell will save the day; it needs to be thoroughly crushed, and it will do an excellent job as snow in a New Year’s craft.

The sparkles must be carefully mixed with a clean spoon and observed their behavior. If you see particles that do not settle to the bottom, carefully remove them. They will continue to float on top of the composition, spoiling its appearance.

Now proceed to the crucial moment - immersing the figurine in water and screwing on the lid. Turn the compositions over and place them in water.

Screw the lid tightly, using a towel to remove any water that has leaked out. To be on the safe side, it is better to apply glue once again along the junction of the jar and the lid.

Decorating the lid

The lid is also worth thinking about. Before you make a “snow globe” with your own hands, prepare everything you need for decoration.

Decorating the lid is not a necessary step, but it will make the ball look complete. The decoration will help hide the joint between the lid and the jar.

Cut a couple of strips from cardboard and glue them into a circle. Cover the stand with gold self-adhesive paper and place the jar in it. This stand can be decorated as you wish.

You can cover the lid with nail polish, wrap it in bright decorative tape, decorate it with felt, or glue small decorative elements: bells, curls. The ball is ready! Shake it and watch the fabulous snowfall.

Making a "snow globe" from a store-bought kit

If you don't really want to search necessary items to create snow New Year's gift, you can create a ball from a ready-made set. They can be found in many stores. The kits can be different: some already have grooves for photographs, others contain clay for creating ceramic figurines. The main thing is to strictly follow the instructions! There are kits in which children must draw and color some of the details themselves. Most often, the decoration is installed on the lid and glued to a dome made of plastic or glass. Then through special hole solution and artificial snow are poured into the ball. The plug from the kit will allow it to be tightly closed.

"Snow globe" without glycerin

Is it possible to create a New Year's surprise without glycerin? And how to replace glycerin in the “snow globe”?

Baby oil can be a good substitute for the substance; it can also thicken water. Or you can create a ball with only water. There is an option to create crafts without any solution at all. Take round Christmas balls with transparent walls. Remove the rope attachment, insert a small figurine and add snow. Place the toy on a stand or decorate a Christmas tree with it.

This magical surprise will be pleasant for both children and adults. Everyone will follow the snowfall of sparkles swirling behind the glass. A gift made with your own hands contains a piece of your soul, and this is very expensive!

With a figurine and falling snow inside - a Christmas souvenir known all over the world. It is believed that the French were the first to make such crafts back in the 19th century. Today on the eve New Year's holidays You can buy a similar product in any store, but it is much more interesting to make a snow globe with your own hands.

Preparing the necessary materials

To make this Christmas craft, you will need: a jar with a lid, any waterproof glue, decorative figures, glitter or foam, glycerin, water. You can make a snow globe with your own hands from almost any container. Baby food jars and other food products are great for this purpose. Remember, the more interesting the shape of the container, the more original the finished craft will look. You can put any figures inside the jar: factory-made souvenirs, small children's toys, you can make the decor yourself from polymer clay. Before starting to make the craft, rinse and dry the container thoroughly.

Making interior decor

New Year's snow globe home production can stand on the lid or bottom of the jar. Decide in advance what you like best and start decorating the part that will become the bottom.

Option one: glue the selected figures directly onto the lid or bottom. Fill the remaining space around with glue and sprinkle with foam shavings or glitter. Leave the decor to dry for a while. It is believed that a snow globe made by yourself will look most impressive if installed interior decor at a slight elevation. The easiest way to achieve this effect is to use a piece of plasticine. Make a cake of suitable shape and size and glue it to the lid or bottom with glue. Next, install the decorative figures by drowning their bases in plasticine, and then mask the base with foam or glitter.

The magic begins

As soon as the blank with the interior decor is dry, you can begin filling our container and assembling it. at home? To fill the container you will need glycerin - you can buy it at the pharmacy. Pour distilled water into the jar - 2/3 full. Fill the remaining space with glycerin. Don't forget to add sparkles, sequins, beads or other small elements that imitate falling snow. If you don’t have anything suitable at hand, you can make “snowflakes” from finely chopped rain, foil or waterproof confetti.

Sealing and finishing touches

Even if the lid of your jar closes tightly, it is a good idea to coat it with glue before screwing it on. Handle the finished souvenir very carefully. Remember, if the glass snow globe leaks or breaks, you will ruin the textiles or very dirty the furniture.

Your magical New Year's craft is ready, but if you wish, you can add a few finishing touches. Decorate the outside of the lid using foil, wrapping paper, or beautiful fabric. If upper part souvenir is flat, you can glue a small decorative figurine on it.

Is it possible to make a ball with falling snow without glycerin?

A popular question among those who decided to make a snow globe with their own hands for the first time is whether it is possible to use ordinary water without additives to make this craft? Actually it's not best idea, since glycerin slows down settling to the bottom and extends the “shelf life” of the souvenir. Ordinary water will deteriorate faster, the interior decor may become covered with an unpleasant coating, or the liquid itself may become cloudy.

If you don’t have glycerin on hand, but you want to start the creative process right now, you can replace it with refined vegetable oil or very sweet clear syrup. But remember, no matter what product you choose, in any case it will go bad in a few months. This also applies to glycerin.

It is believed that the smaller the snow globe and the more interesting its shape, the prettier it looks. Whether to follow this rule or not is your personal choice, but do not use jars larger than 1 liter for this craft.

A souvenir with falling snow can also be made from plastic container. The main condition is a tightly closing lid, transparency of the vessel and the absence of unnecessary edges and unsightly seams on its surface. A similar principle is used to select glass jar. A container with smooth walls or a small number of edges is best suited for making this craft. But a complex cut will interfere with viewing a fascinating inner world compositions.

Now you know how to make a snow globe, but still wondering what to put inside? Small houses, Christmas trees, snowmen, Santa Claus, figurines of animals or fairy-tale characters - if you create with your child.

Crafts with “falling” snow can be not only New Year’s. Try making such a souvenir for March 8 or Valentine's Day. Accordingly, the interior decor should support the holiday theme, and only glitter, multi-colored beads and confetti can fall in such a ball; foam chips are not needed.

One more interesting idea- make a ball with a postcard or photo inside. You will need a paper photo or beautiful picture suitable size. Cover the workpiece with transparent tape so that it does not get wet. Next, as always, place the decor inside and mask its base, add glitter and finish the craft by pouring the solution and sealing the lid tightly.
