How much does a 6 meter sheet of corrugated sheet weigh? Profiled sheet weight: determination of the mass of different types of sheets. Where can I use corrugated sheets?

Corrugated sheeting as a building material has been actively used for several decades. It is a galvanized sheet, which in the process of cold rolling acquires special shape. The profiles act as stiffeners, which ensures the successful use of thin metal in construction.

The popularity of using corrugated sheets is ensured by such qualities as:

  • speed and ease of installation,
  • practicality,
  • durability, subject to installation and use rules,
  • possibility of installation without a large amount of residue,
  • ability to select sheets the right size,
  • attractive appearance,
  • availability of price range.

Types of corrugated sheets

Today, the range of any company supplying roofing materials includes large selection profiled sheet. There are two main categories:

  1. galvanized sheet,
  2. colored.

Galvanized steel itself is reliable enough to be used under open air in any weather conditions, but applying additional anti-corrosion and polymer coatings can significantly extend the service life, increase the range of permissible temperature changes and make the material more attractive in appearance due to a variety of colors.

Depending on the purpose there are:

  • profile sheet for constructing walls and partitions (marked “C”), used for the construction of fences, cladding building facades, rib height from 8 to 21 mm;
  • roofing material marked “H” has more high wave and special drainage grooves, rib height more than 57 mm;
  • universal corrugated sheeting “NS” can be used for roofing, wall cladding, etc., it is cheaper than class “H”, quite durable, wave height is more than 35 mm.

The main features of corrugated sheets of different categories are the thickness of the metal, the height and shape of the waves, the presence or absence of an additional drainage groove.

How much does a corrugated sheet weigh, weight 1 m2

The relatively low weight of the corrugated sheet determines its useful performance properties, which make the material convenient for:

  • erection of fences,
  • façade cladding,
  • roof decking,
  • installation of partitions and walls.

To perform this work you need to know weight m2 of corrugated sheet. This factor must be taken into account when calculating loads on the foundation and supporting structures, as well as when delivering and lifting material.

As we see, weight of profiled sheet C8 painted, used for the manufacture of sandwich panels, quite low due to the small wave.

Weight of profiled sheet C10 only a little more, but its scope of application is much wider. It can be used in almost all construction areas from prefabricated structures, ceiling lining and roofing to the production of sandwich panels and insulation of building facades.

Profiled sheet is a building material that is manufactured in the form of individual metal sheets, which are specifically designed to cover any premises in order to protect them from precipitation, wind and other external factors.

This material is made from galvanized steel, using the cold profiling method, after which the surface of the sheets takes on a wavy shape.

Profiled sheet is one of the highest quality and durable materials and therefore the demand for its acquisition and use in the process of construction of structures is gradually growing.

Profiled sheets are tougher, more durable, and their range is much larger.

Corrugated sheeting is characterized by a high degree of noise absorption, but when finishing the roof with corrugated sheets, it is necessary to additionally use soundproofing materials. Also, due to the fact that corrugated sheeting is a rigid structure with complex terrain, this allows it to be used during installation at any height, and it can withstand heavy loads.

In fact, corrugated sheets and corrugated sheets are the same material, only corrugated sheets are most often called roofing materials, and corrugated sheets are a universal covering.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of the material:

  • Profiled sheet has significant stability when exposed to corrosion, ultraviolet radiation and precipitation.
  • Thanks to the presence of sliding properties, snow or dirt does not remain on the roof, but immediately flows off it.
  • The long shelf life of the material is about 50 years.
  • Installation of the coating can be done easily and without problems without having great experience in construction.
  • Versatility in application.
  • Nice appearance.
  • Environmental friendliness and safety of the profiled sheet. At high temperatures toxic compounds are not released.
  • Light weight simplifies the process of transporting corrugated sheets to site construction work.
  • Affordable price for the purchase of profiled sheets allows you to purchase it at average costs.
  • Provides reliability and leakage protection.

Disadvantages of a professional sheet:

  • Material in sunny weather gets very hot.
  • Poor sound insulation— pronounced sound from precipitation hitting the roof.
  • If the installation of construction work is carried out unprofessionally, then The roof seal may be compromised.

As you can see, the disadvantages are in the minority, and this allows us to talk about the versatility, high practicality and functionality of the material.

Types of corrugated sheets for roofing and choosing the best

The load-bearing type is intended for creating partitions and finishing walls. It can be bought for a small price, and also issued individual order when you need sheets of a certain size.

With its help, you can not only construct some elements of the building, but also easily repair the roof, finish the facade, its walls, ceiling, and even build durable fences.

When calculated per square meter, this material has low weight and good strength.

The wall profiled sheet has a rectangular or trapezoidal profile with polymer coating or it can be galvanized. If you make walls from it, they will be much lighter in weight than buildings made of reinforced concrete. Wall corrugated sheets are convenient and easy to cut if you need to do façade cladding or cladding work, install load-bearing elements, and also make decorative metal structures.

Which corrugated sheet is better for the roof of a house? Roofing profiled sheets (series N) are used for the construction of roofs and any fences that can withstand bad weather. It can withstand heavy loads.

Technical characteristics of the coating

Before purchasing materials from corrugated sheets, it is recommended to find out some details about the features of its use in construction for several reasons:

  • To choose the best one for yourself and suitable look from all profiled sheets for facade cladding or for building a fence, and also know what are the requirements regarding the sizes of sheets used?, since the possibilities of using the material depend on them.
  • If you know the dimensions of the material, then you can purchase and thanks to this save your time when choosing.
  • You will be able to purchase the profiled sheet that meets all the established requirements GOST 24045-94.

Corrugated sheet for roofing: dimensions and weight

Profiled sheets have a wide range of lengths and thicknesses. In accordance with the rules of GOST 24045-94, the length for all types of profiled sheets can be from 2.4 to 12.6 meters, and the width ranges from 600-1850 mm and is determined based on the manufacturer’s brand. The strength of corrugated sheets primarily depends on their thickness.

The standard thickness of corrugated sheets for roofing is 0.5 and 0.55 mm.

Roofing from corrugated sheets: calculation of the number of sheets

To calculate the material for the roof, you will definitely need information about the dimensions of the material used and the roof. To begin with It is recommended to start with the calculation rafter system.

You also definitely need information about your expected weight. finished design, and the cross-sectional values of the beams taking into account the coating material.

The main components of the rafter system are logs and beams, which are intended for the construction of a roof frame. done after calculating the load on the roof, which takes into account the weight of the roof, its covering and its own weight.

This is done to provide for all possible loads on the roof. In addition, the load calculation includes the weight of the workers who will be handling it and strong gusts of wind.

Attention!

To calculate the coating and rafter system, use our! After calculating the total load, the quantity is calculated wooden beams, which are distributed in a certain direction at angles.

Installation of the roofing pie is done in this way:

  1. Take the counter-lattice and install it on the surface of the rafter system. It can be attached between the beams if the roof is made of corrugated sheets, gable, hip or multi-gable.
  2. Waterproofing materials are placed on the insulation.
  3. For the profile sheet, you need to install the lathing, taking into account the gaps for ventilation.
  4. Roofing profiled sheets are laid out.

Roofing pie

The use of profiled sheets is quite diverse and ensures a long service life. Thanks to this material, it is possible to make both individual structures in the form of fences and install the roofing pie. Unlike corrugated sheeting, it has many advantages that make it indispensable in the construction process.

Useful video

How to cut corrugated sheets correctly? Watch the video:

When constructing various buildings and structures, it is very important to take into account the mass building materials, especially when constructing a roof, because in addition to its own weight, it must withstand loads from wind, snow and water during rain. If the roof covering is made of profiled steel, then you need to know the weight of the profiled sheet. In addition, it is necessary to understand on what factors the given value, and why it is needed.

The weight of the profiled sheet depends on several factors:

  • features of the steel alloy;
  • material thickness;
  • profile configurations;
  • dimensions of the sheet itself.

The weight of the product is influenced by the following factors:

  1. The weight characteristics of the profiled sheet largely depend on the characteristics and composition of the raw materials used for its manufacture. The production technology of this material is constantly being improved, the composition of the alloy is improving, which makes it possible to obtain a lighter product without losing its technical characteristics.
  2. Another condition that affects the weight of the product is its thickness. The greater the thickness, the greater the mass of one sheet. Given sheet material is produced in accordance with GOST number 24045-94, according to which profile sheets are made with a thickness in the range of 0.06-0.1 cm. However, some manufacturers produce products with a thickness of 0.045-1.018 cm.
  3. Also, the weight of the corrugated sheet depends on the height and pitch of the ridge. If two products of the same dimensions and steel thickness have different characteristics of the height and pitch of the ridge, then the weight of these elements will be different. This happens because with a higher profile there is a larger amount of sheet steel per unit area, and therefore the weight of the product increases.
  4. Also, the mass of the material depends on the wave configuration. The profile can be of a regular wave-like shape, made in a trapezoid or rectangular. Thus, a sheet with a wavy corrugation will have less weight than a product with a trapezoidal profile configuration.
  5. The weight of corrugated sheeting depends on the width of the product. Moreover, it is worth considering that this value is indicated in two versions: full and working. The last of them is given taking into account the overlap of sheets. According to GOST, sheets with a width from 64.6 cm to 106.0 cm are produced. The manufacturer himself made sure that the wide sheets were not very heavy, therefore, the wider the sheet, the lower the wave height.

The need to determine the mass of the material

It is especially important to know the weight of the profiled product if you are going to cover the roof with this material. Knowing how much corrugated sheeting weighs is necessary in order to calculate the load from the roof on the foundation and load-bearing structures of the building. To execute necessary calculations and determine the required values, you need to know exactly how much the corrugated sheet weighs.

When choosing a roof covering, very often the choice is made in favor of a profiled product, since it is quite strong, durable and light in weight. One m2 of corrugated sheeting (even the thickest) gives minimal load on the roof and other structures of the building. Due to the high rigidity of the metal profile, the coating will not sag or deform under snow and wind loads. Due to the low weight, the load on the rafter system is reduced.

Sheet dimensions and weight

The highest quality corrugated sheeting is manufactured in accordance with GOST number 24045-94. This regulatory document regulates the main dimensions of the metal profile and its weight. Each type of profiled product has its own marking. The first letter in the designation indicates the scope of use of the material, for example, C - wall, N - load-bearing, NS - universal. The letter designation is followed by a number that indicates the height of the profile corrugation.

As can be seen from the table above, C8 corrugated sheeting, whose weight is minimal, is the lightest among the profiled sheets. In general, the weight of 1 m2 of metal profile is not that big when compared with other roofing coverings:

  • the weight of 1m2 of cement-sand piece tiles is 25 kg;
  • weight square meter roofing slate is 12 kg;
  • the required amount of natural tiles to cover one square of roofing weighs 50 kg;
  • If you compare slate roofing and corrugated sheets, the weight of the first covering is much greater and amounts to 52 kg.

That is why, if the question arises of which lightweight roofing material to choose so as not to unnecessarily load the rafter system and load-bearing structures of the building, the choice falls on a metal profile.

As you can see, among all the advantages that corrugated sheeting has, weight and rigidity can be called the main ones. However, when choosing roofing sheeting there is no need to give preference to the sheet with the greatest thickness. It is necessary to maintain a balance of the necessary rigidity and sufficient lightness. For utility and one-story buildings, you can choose a product with a thickness in the range of 0.05-0.06 cm. The roof of a two-story private house can be covered with a metal profile 0.07-0.08 cm thick.

When constructing buildings, it is important to take into account every detail. Such a characteristic as the weight of corrugated sheets is of great importance. In this article, the mass of corrugated sheet will be discussed in more detail. It is worth understanding what the value depends on, how to calculate it, and why this data is needed.

The weight of corrugated sheeting is determined by several characteristics: the thickness of the base, the quality of the steel alloy, the shape of the wave, the width and height of the profiled sheet.
The composition and characteristics of the raw materials used in the manufacture of corrugated sheets have a great influence on the weight of such material. Manufacturing technologies don't stand still. Responsible manufacturers are constantly trying to improve them so as to produce corrugated sheets from light, high-quality steel alloys without losing high strength characteristics. The thickness of the corrugated sheet plays an important role in this value. The higher this indicator, the greater the mass of the sheet. The standard thickness of corrugated sheets manufactured according to GOST 24045-94 varies from 0.6 to 1.0 mm. In addition, on the market you can find such material with a thickness of 0.45 to 1.18 mm. A wave (ridge) is a protrusion on the surface of a profiled sheet, and its height is the gap between two adjacent ridges. Sheets of corrugated sheets that are the same in width, but different in height, will weigh differently. Why is there such a difference? The lower the height of this material, the less metal there is per unit area of the sheet. In other words, the higher the profile, the heavier it is. The weight of the corrugated sheet depends not only on the height of the crest, but also on the shape of the wave. Produced sheets of corrugated sheets may differ in relief shapes; the waves can be rectangular, wavy and trapezoidal in shape. This value for a corrugated sheet with a trapezoidal shape, for example, will be higher than for a similar sheet with a wavy profile. Another characteristic of corrugated sheeting that affects its weight is its width. This characteristic of corrugated sheets comes in two types: working and complete. They differ in the size of the overlap width. Sheets produced in accordance with GOST have a total width from 646 to 1060 mm. The width of this material also depends on the height of the wave. The wider the sheet, the lower its wave, and the less weight the corrugated sheet has.

The ratio of corrugated sheet sizes and its weight

Most quality materials are produced according to GOST 24045-94. The document regulates the main dimensions of individual types of corrugated sheeting, including weight. Each type of profiled sheet described in GOST has its own marking. The first part of the marking is the purpose of the corrugated sheet (N - load-bearing, C - wall, NS - universal application), the second is the height of the corrugation. Below is a table showing the dependence of the weight of such material on its height, thickness and width.

Why do you need to know the weight of corrugated sheets?

As can be seen from the table, the metal profile is light in weight. For comparison, you can consider how much other materials weigh on average (1m2):
  • cement-sand tiles – 25 kg;
  • natural tiles– 50 kg;
  • slate roofing – 52 kg;
  • slate – 12 kg.

The strength and reliability of the roof plays an important role in the construction of a house. In order not to create too high a load on the foundation and supporting structures of the building, it is important to make the correct calculation of the roof. In this case, the weight of the corrugated sheet plays an important role. When choosing a material, corrugated sheeting has a great advantage due to its combination of low weight per m2 and high rigidity. Even the thickest corrugated sheet has a small mass per m2. Moreover, even with its increase, the load will be insignificant. Thanks to such a characteristic as the rigidity of the sheet, the metal profile does not sag or bend. This allows you to significantly reduce the weight of the rafter system.

Advantages of lightweight roofing materials

For the roofing covering, the weight of the corrugated sheet plays a role big role. The rafter system must distribute the load from the components of the roofing pie. Based on its weight, calculations are made for the design of the rafter system. High rigidity in combination with a low weight per 1 m2 makes it possible to reduce the pitch of the sheathing, do without the construction of a reinforcing structure, and reduce the weight of the roof itself. Thanks to this, there is a saving on the purchase of materials, the load on the walls and the foundation of the building is reduced. These characteristics make it possible to replace old roofs made of asbestos-cement sheets without strengthening or replacing the rafter system. When constructing buildings from scratch, it becomes possible to construct lightweight load-bearing structures and the use of pillar foundations exclusively for load-bearing columns. There is no need to install reinforced concrete foundations. This significantly reduces costs.

How to calculate?

As can be seen from the above, knowing the weight of corrugated roofing is very important. In individual organizations trading roofing materials, specialists from such companies can help you make the calculations. Or you can use special programs on the Internet. For example, calculations can be done using the MasMat program, or using a special calculator.
If it is not possible to use these methods, you can make the calculations yourself. To determine this indicator for one profiled sheet, you need to multiply its mass m2 meter by length. When making calculations, it is worth considering that in the tables this value for m2 of sheet is indicated for the working area, and not for the total. I recommend watching the following videos

One of the multi-purpose and widely used modern building materials is corrugated board.

Since the material has a relief surface, which makes it the owner of exceptional longitudinal and transverse rigidity, it is used almost everywhere.

Its other qualities are also captivating: strength, ductility and corrosion resistance.

What is corrugated sheeting made of?

For the manufacture of corrugated sheets, the same material is used as for metal tiles - steel sheet.

This sheet is simply cold rolled through other machines and the appearance of the corrugated sheet is different.

If metal tiles are an imitation of ceramic tiles, then corrugated sheets imitate slate.

Then a layer of zinc is applied to the surface of the sheet to protect it from corrosion and a layer of polymer anti-corrosion coating.

Depending on the purpose of operation, corrugated sheeting is usually divided into several types:

  1. Brands "N". In its marking, the presence of the letter H indicates that it is a “load-bearing” material. Thickness steel sheet is the largest possible. The wave height is also maximum.

    To make this material even more rigid, additional grooves are made on its surface. N-grade corrugated sheeting has proven itself well in the manufacture of heavy cargo containers, as well as in the construction of hangars, garages, warehouses, workshops, fences, and other objects and structures.

    It is this corrugated sheet that is most often used for external cladding building walls, making gates and fences. Sometimes such corrugated sheeting is used for roofing work.

    But this happens very rarely, since such material weighs a lot.

  2. Profiled sheet "NS". That is, a load-bearing wall material. This material is the most versatile of the types of corrugated sheets. The thickness of such a profiled sheet is average.

    Also, its wave surface has an average height. The profiled material of the “NS” brand is distinguished by its increased rigidity, and can be used for finishing ceilings, walls, ceilings of any kind, as a roofing material.

  3. Brands "C". Already from the marking it is clear that this is wall corrugated sheeting. And for wall finishing, it is precisely these profiled sheets that are most often used. The small thickness of the product greatly simplifies installation.

    As a rule, such corrugated sheeting is used in conjunction with various insulation materials: foam plastic, ecowool, mineral wool or natural insulation.

    Profiled sheets of grade “C” of medium and small thickness are produced. The height of the corrugation is average, which makes this material very convenient for roofing.

    A roof made of this material is durable and reliable. It can easily withstand any load under any impact.

    Such load-bearing element often used as flooring scaffolding: This material can easily withstand a large weight load.

General characteristics

To produce a trapezoidal cold-formed steel profile, it is produced from cold-rolled steel sheets (GOST 24045-94) on bending machines.

The thickness of the sheets ranges from 0.4 mm for wall corrugated sheeting to 1.5 mm for load-bearing corrugated sheeting.

The presence of additional stiffening ribs, as well as grooves, makes this material very resistant to various aggressive environments and all types of loads.

But this material, despite its great mechanical strength, is one of the lightest building materials.

N-grade corrugated sheeting is used everywhere in construction.

It is also often used for restoration and repair work.

If corrugated sheeting is used for the final roofing, it is grade N or NS material.

It can easily withstand the weight of a person (which is very important during installation) or any thickness of snow cover.

Load, mechanical or chemical influences have virtually no effect on profiled sheets.

The presence of a galvanized coating and polymer film makes steel sheets not susceptible to moisture, sudden temperature changes, and corrosion.

You can transport and install corrugated sheets in any weather.

Installation of corrugated sheets does not require complex construction tools and special equipment.

Material weight

The weight of a steel profiled sheet depends on its thickness, the thickness of the zinc and polymer coatings.

After all, each material has its own weight.

Self-tapping screws for fastening

The profiled steel sheet is fastened to the sheathing elements using self-tapping screws.

Or, as builders say, self-tapping screws.

A self-tapping screw is a type of fastener that is a steel rod with a head and a triangular external thread.

During the fastening process, such a screw independently cuts a thread inside the hole.

This type of fastener differs from screws and screws in that the thread is applied to the entire cylindrical surface of the rod.

Today, the range of self-tapping screws for fastening corrugated sheets is very wide.

And you should know that for each type of work there is a separate type of screws, differing in their parameters and characteristics.

That is, on the roof and a self-tapping screw for fastening to a fence are different fasteners.

And if you purchase the wrong fasteners, it is difficult to guarantee the strength and reliability of fastening the sheets.

Self-tapping screws are made from high quality stainless or galvanized carbon steel.

The screw kit also includes a gasket made of neoprene.

The presence of such a gasket allows you to make the attachment point airtight.

Most fastener manufacturers coat the head of the screw with polymer paint to make the fence or roof structure more presentable.

The paint used is the same as when painting sheets.

Therefore, after installation, the self-tapping screw is almost invisible.

Types of screws for fastening

There are three types of self-tapping screws for fastening corrugated sheets:

  1. For attaching products to wooden frames. For such a self-tapping screw, the thread pitch is rare, which ensures the strength of the fastener. Such a self-tapping screw can be screwed into even the hardest wood without any problems.
  2. For fastening the product to metal. Also, such a self-tapping screw is used if it is necessary to attach a profiled sheet to a structure that is subject to strong wind loads. The thread pitch on such a self-tapping screw is also rare. But when making a drilling tip, a special sharpening is made, which prevents damage to the structure of the material during the work.
  3. For fastening additional and ridge elements on the roof. These self-tapping screws are long.

All three types of self-tapping screws are equipped with a special drill tip, thanks to which there is no need to pre-drill a hole in the elements being fastened.

And the hex head is easily fixed in the screwdriver chuck, which greatly simplifies the work process.

Weight and cost of self-tapping screws

The weight of self-tapping screws and their cost depend on their diameter and length.

The measure of the weight of a self-tapping screw is a kilogram per 1000 units of fasteners.

Depending on the length of the product, the weight of one thousand screws can range from 18.5 to 41.67 kg. That is, one self-tapping screw can weigh from 18.5 to 41.67 grams.

When attaching corrugated sheeting to the roof, 9 self-tapping screws are used per sheet.

To attach the sheet to the fence, 6 self-tapping screws are enough.

Since the sheets are laid with an overlap, some screws simultaneously hold 2 sheets.

Prices for self-tapping screws also depend on the size, and are in the range of 1.6 - 3.0 rubles per unit.
