Creative design studio for children. Children's school of design thinking MakeSchool. Landscape design of a kindergarten: thinking about safety

The school of design thinking and industrial design Make School is a children's educational project of the industrial design studio Make Fabrication Studio. The studio provides industrial design, prototyping and small-scale production services using modern digital technologies, develops and launches products of its own design, and is a regular participant in festivals dedicated to innovation and modern technologies (Geek Picnic, Maker’s Fair, Science Festival). The “Make” Center for Youth Innovative Creativity operates on the basis of the studio.

The Make Fabrication Studio team conducts training courses and master classes on object design and digital production at the Flacon design factory, participated in the development and implementation of educational programs for the School of Design “Details”, Lomonosov schools, summer camp at Bauman University.

Make Fabrication Studio is the first and only Certified Inventor Club Leader in Russia of the LittleBits company (www.littlebits.cc) - one of the leaders in STEAM education. The partnership provides an opportunity for School students to become members of the global LittleBits community. Students can share their inventions on the company’s international online platform, learn from practitioners in their field, share their projects with people from all over the world and participate in design challenges.

Why is industrial design promising?

The main task of industrial design is to “package” complex and increasingly complex technologies into an object that is understandable and easily used by users.
Changes are constantly taking place in this area. Modern technologies (artificial intelligence(AI), Internet of Things, biomimicry) give designers the opportunity to practically limit their imagination when creating new things. In the future, from the traditional linear economy (resources-production-use-disposal), the world will move to a circular economy (more rational, reuse of resources, the concept of use instead of the concept of ownership). Examples of such innovative companies are Uber, AirBnb, etc.

And in the future, when creating a new product (or redesigning an existing one), the industrial designer, already at the beginning of development, will need to think about how the product will be used after it fails or becomes obsolete. This affects the choice of materials, design elements, packaging, and user experience design. Therefore, today it is necessary to rethink the design of almost all existing objects and systems.

What is design thinking and why is it needed?

Design thinking is a method of creating new products and services that are centered on people and their needs. This approach allows you to effectively create new products that will not gather dust on the shelves like unnecessary inventions, but will be in demand by the market.
During classes at Make School, students:
— get acquainted with design thinking techniques and try to apply them in practice while working on their projects;
- create prototypes of inventions from scrap materials and using rapid prototyping tools ( electrical blocks LittleBits), which are used today by well-known international companies, such as Google X, Ideo, SAP, TechStars, etc.;
— how real industrial designers use sketchbooks to record their ideas and search for inspiration; they keep Invention Journals, which reflect all stages of work on projects;
— participate in international design challenges from the LittleBits company and learn to present their projects.

Classes take place:

  • 5 best children's architectural centers
  • New course of design lecture by Olga Kosyreva: “Four conversations about modern design”
  • Daniyar Yusupov: Incomparable pleasure. Part 4
  • Lectures by key speakers of the Moscow Urban Forum
  • Let us begin with a very important statement from a practicing architect and young mother Katerina Blinovskaya, who devotes part of his working and personal time to educational work with children. She is sure that this is necessary for the development of a child at any age: “I think this type of activity is very important, and I think that any architectural bureau can find an opportunity to organize a children’s architectural festival, talk about their work, and give children the opportunity to try themselves as architects. Personally, I am in favor of such events being easily accessible and free. Such activities contribute to broadening one’s horizons, the ability to see and understand architecture, and the emergence of general ideas about our profession, give the joy of creativity and communication now, regardless of whether the child wants to study architecture in the future.”

    School of Architectural Development - SHAR

    According to FORBES rating it is educational institution entered the top ten most interesting art studios in Moscow. Despite the fact that it is suitable for both adults and children, the majority of SHAR's wards are, of course, schoolchildren. Each of them chooses something that is interesting to him. training course: integration, art graphics, sculpture, spatial coloring, academic drawing, architectural drawing, architectural history, spatial modeling and many others.

    The School also has “external groups” for adults who also study in one direction or another: architectural drawing, painting, digital photography, interior design.

    Classes at SHAR are conducted by teachers from Moscow Architectural Institute. The main goal is development creativity and potential, introducing students to the direct process of creativity, as well as the architectural and design environment. The motto of “Sharovtsy”: “Creativity is social essence person."

    Oddly enough, SAR receives both positive and negative reviews. However, the latter are more often associated not with the educational process itself - the majority are satisfied with it - but with “everyday” conditions; On Internet forums, many complain, for example, that the student classrooms in which classes are held are now in a deplorable state. Otherwise, nothing interferes with the creative atmosphere that reigns at the School of Architectural Development.

    Children's Art School "START"

    The school is intended for children aged 5 to 17 years. Here children can dive into the secrets of architecture and design for the first time, begin to study architectural and artistic design, layout, computer graphics, etc. START humanizes school education, creating an integrated course of AHT (architectural and artistic creativity), based on the unification of school disciplines through architecture.

    Basically, this School collects only positive feedback from the START children themselves and their parents. What is especially tempting is that the company has many foreign colleagues: the works of the School’s students are constantly exhibited in the USA, Finland, India, Norway and other countries. It is also attractive that the children’s classes are taught by eminent teachers, seven of whom received the title of laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation. They also prepare their older students (children from ninth to eleventh grade) for admission to creative universities.

    This project is interesting because it is aimed at working with the youngest architects aged 4 to 7 years. In the circle, kids learn the basics of modeling, design and construction in the form of a game, using the most ordinary children's construction set from cubes and pyramids.

    The school named after Papa Carlo, intended for young architects, was opened by candidate psychological sciences Vera Vladimirovna Brofman. Her method, according to the parents of the children involved in the circle, is unique. Brofman is a wonderful teacher; she manages to find an approach to every child, teach him to think and invent. Vera Vladimirovna's program, which has received recognition all over the world, is aimed at developing spatial thinking, cognitive abilities and imagination of the child.

    In the Workshop, named after the hero of a famous fairy tale, there is always an atmosphere of joy and creativity: the children come up with their own castles, then create drawings using special templates, and then build it in practice.

    A full year course at the School of Architecture consists of 36 lessons. Despite the fact that it is designed for children, the program in the classes is exactly the same as for adults: first, children study in the class of planar drawing of volumetric geometric bodies, then separately in construction drawings and architecture. Upon completion of training, each student of Papa Carlo must submit a real graduation project.

    For parents who are not sure whether to send their child to this architectural school, special master classes are held, where adults are invited strictly together with their children.

    One of the most important aspects learning at this School of Architecture is, of course, a game, such as, for example, “Guess It.” In it, children are offered drawings of parts in three projections. The presenter selects the part, the participants select a drawing for it and explain why it is suitable. Who guessed right? larger number once, he won. In another game, “Confusion,” parts and their drawings are mixed; Here the children must return each of the parts to the correct place.

    Experience shows that after attending these classes, children operate better different types graphic models, easily translate one schematic image into another, and keep the schematic image of an object in mind.

    Anastasia Golovina, an architect, restorer, artist and part-time teacher, also teaches children the basics of the skills of an architect and designer. Anastasia’s learning process is slightly different from what we are used to seeing: the girl introduces the children to the intricacies of architecture playfully, namely by creating various houses: designed, drawn on paper, sculpted from clay, plasticine or plaster, made from leather, wood and other materials. Almost all of her courses, such as “Geometric Forms in Architecture”, “How to Draw beautiful houses", "Coloring books" and others, are indeed accompanied by the invention and execution of a wide variety of real and fantastic house models.

    The course “Geometric Forms in Architecture,” recently developed by Anastasia, is especially popular and of interest among young architects. By visiting it, you can learn about structures of various forms, understand the pros and cons of a particular design, and also understand the variety of uses of the same form. Already in the first lesson, the child receives a difficult task for a beginner - to draw an architectural form and build its model from some material. This course is designed for those guys who have previously completed the first stage - the course “How to draw a beautiful house.”

    As Anastasia herself reports on her blog, in order to get into classes, you need to go through the so-called selection process - complete a task, take a photo of it and post it in one of the social networks with reference to Anastasia Golovina. Having received a notification about the appearance new job, the architect looks at it and immediately gives a detailed comment - “analysis of the work, its strengths, as well as what needs to be taken into account so that the next work is completed by young architects for more high level. And also a couple of admiring reviews from friends, which will be nice for any mother.”

    This project, located in the ARTPLAY design center, has the least relation to architecture. This School specializes in teaching children (from 9 to 12 years old) the art of design, animation and filmmaking, with a main focus on photography.

    It is interesting that, according to the organizers of the School, most of their students do not intend to become professional photographers in the future. Each of them is simply interested in this on an “amateur level”: through creativity, the guys strive to find a way to express themselves, to understand who they really are.

    Classes at the School are of two types - seminars and workshops. Seminars are held according to a certain scenario. It is constructed in such a way as to reveal the given topic deeply and from all sides. Workshops are creative classes that a child can attend by choice: everyone chooses the teacher whose approach to photography matches his own as closely as possible.

    It is important that the School pays great attention to ensuring that the child is comfortable: you can change the schedule, change the format of classes, change the teacher and simply transfer to another group.

    The organizers place an emphasis in training on developing children’s creative abilities, teaching them a visual language, with the help of which young photographers, designers and architects will be able to not only understand the world around us, but also learn to form it yourself.

    As you know, the word design has been quite firmly established in the Russian language for a long time. It denotes both the process of activity and its result. The point is that English translation This word has very many meanings: design is a drawing, a sketch, and a plan, and this word can also be translated as a verb - to draw, to invent, and so on. Be that as it may, this term denotes something creative, something that is clearly aimed at improving or decorating reality.

    Studios, homes and schools creative development invite interested boys and girls to classes, lectures and master classes, where competent and experienced teachers will share the secrets of the profession, teach children to create and design things with their own hands, and cultivate aesthetic taste. Even the youngest children are happy to join in the process and develop fine motor skills, thinking, and creativity.

    Designers are in demand in many fields modern society: It’s not for nothing that many universities train professionals who can work in various fields - for example, interior designers, clothing designers, production premises, landscapes, etc. Often, the skills acquired in childhood help children to better understand all the subtleties and secrets of this direction of creativity according to the laws of beauty.

    Landscape design of a kindergarten: thinking about safety

    The courtyards of kindergartens, as a rule, should not only be beautiful, but also safe for children. One of the main tips for those who are designing their territories is that instead of filling the area with concrete, it is better to sow it with grass. Preschoolers often cannot stand on their feet during active games, and the grass will soften their fall. Plus it's environmentally friendly pure material, the costs of which are quite small. Movable team games(basketball, volleyball) require wooden flooring - this is also environmentally friendly and inexpensive way improve the design of the territory. You shouldn’t get carried away with planting a large number of flowers: children can accidentally damage them and disrupt the integrity of the composition. And, of course, you cannot plant plants that can prick children (for example, roses, but this is of little use in the northern latitudes of Russia). Safe objects include rubberized or plastic figures, as well as artificial grass. But it is important that these materials are of high quality and non-toxic.

    How to develop design abilities in a preschooler with applied tasks

    When performing applied tasks, children must realize that the fruit of their labor must be noticeable and implemented in real life. Therefore, the goals become specific: for example, to create a poster for the festival, business card or interior design element. It would be wrong if what a boy or girl creates simply lies on the shelf. At the same time, children can independently arrange elements and apply new knowledge and skills. Moreover, experiments and flights of fancy are encouraged - many adults may be amazed creative thinking kids!

    What are closed and open compositions?

    Not only the future artist and graphic artist, but also the designer should be familiar with the basics of composition. What are they? There are closed and open. The first (which can also be called static or closed) embodies the ideas of solidity, steadfastness, stability and immobility. It is characterized by the main directions of lines directed towards the center, construction according to the shape of popular geometric objects, taking into account symmetry. The closed composition has a clear external contour. A open composition gives a feeling of space, freedom, “air”. The lines in this case are directed not towards the center, but away from it. Often there is not one compositional node, but several, and a peculiar rhythm is felt.
