Slime is a toy that came into fashion at the end of the last century. This event was preceded by the premiere of an animated film about Ghostbusters. Among the main characters of the cartoon was Lizun, a spreading, stretching and shape-changing creature. In this article I will tell you how to make slime at home without and with sodium tetraborate.

The consistency of the toy, which was given the name handgam, resembles jelly, but does not melt in your hands. And although more than a dozen years have passed since its appearance, it is still popular among children and teenagers.

You can buy slime at any toy store, but the factory product contains chemical components, the contact of which with the baby’s skin does not cause delight among caring parents. That's why many people are interested in technology homemade, because homemade slime is safer. This toy also relieves stress and has a positive effect on work. nervous system, develops fine motor skills and creativity.

In this article I will look at popular ways of creating slime from scrap materials. They differ in the duration of execution, composition of ingredients, consistency and quality. finished product, level of difficulty.

Life cycle of slime: what to feed and how to care for it

Slime is real Living being. He needs to be fed, treated and cared for in every possible way.. It may happen that your slime becomes pregnant, then there is nothing else left to do but to give birth to your pet. After all, regardless of gender, your slime can have a baby. This is such a small bubble or even several bubbles in which the life of a new slime is already emerging. Leave the lickers alone for 3-4 days, and then separate the babies from the “mom” or “dad”.

The slime also needs to be fed (salt) and given water (water). Also for color you can let him eat paint (just a little). To prevent the slime from shrinking, place it in the refrigerator periodically.

How to make slime without sodium tetraborate

And now you will learn how to make slime without sodium tetraborate. For this method, you can use everything you find at home: glue, starch, flour, washing powder. That is, you will receive a new exciting toy practically for free. And the YouTube video (at the end of the article), as well as our recommendations, will help you cope with this task.

The first way you can make real slime is to use starch.

Slime from washing gel

And in preparing this slime, household chemicals will help you - more precisely, washing gel. So you need to go to the store and buy office glue. Now you can easily and quickly prepare amazing slime. We describe the whole process step by step.

Let's talk about everyone's favorite toy - slime! A toy with such an unattractive name is a sticky-wet, jelly-like mass bright color and odorless. Slime does not mold like plasticine, although it has a certain plasticity, but it sticks well to surfaces, slowly sliding off them. This ability and its pleasant-to-touch texture have made this seemingly unremarkable mass one of the most famous inventions in the gaming industry.

The history of handgam

The ancestor of the substance known in the countries former USSR called “slime”, was an acid green slime toy produced by the Slime company.

The name "slime" stuck to slime after the release of the film "Ghostbusters" on television. The ghost after whom this jelly-like toy was named had a similar shape.

The beneficial effect of handgam on the development of a child

Another name for this sensational sticky plasticine is handgam, which translated means “hand” and “chewing gum.”

Scientists who have studied handgams claim that playing with them has a beneficial effect on the development of fine motor skills of the hands and can serve as a relaxing massage.

So, how can you please your child with such a wonderful toy that develops imagination and motor skills? Of course, you can go and buy it at almost any store, but it’s safer and more interesting to make it yourself.

How to make slime at home without or with it with your own hands will be discussed in our article.

Safety rules for making handgams

Before you learn about sodium tetraborate, let's familiarize ourselves with the basic safety rules, since failure to comply with them can be fraught with serious health problems:

Wear an apron (or clothes you don't mind) and gloves, as you will be using dyes when working.

If you are making “smart” plasticine together with a child, be careful that glue and borax do not get into his stomach. If these ingredients are ingested, rinse and consult a doctor.

For the mixture of ingredients, use a container from which you will not eat food after the process is complete.

The shelf life of homemade slime can be from a week to two weeks, depending on the ingredients included in its composition.

After playing, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly.

How to make such a toy with your own hands at home? Slime without sodium tetraborate or with it is made in approximately the same way, as will be described below in the article. Safety precautions are the same for all methods.

Making “smart” plasticine from sodium tetraborate

There are many ways to make handgam yourself, today we will look at the most common of them.

Sodium tetraborate slime is considered the most durable. To increase its shelf life, strictly follow the manufacturing technology and choose the highest quality materials.

By the way, tetraborate itself is an antiseptic, so if a child drops a slime that contains this substance, you don’t have to worry.

You can buy borax solution at pharmacies, hardware stores, craft stores, and even at the construction market.

There are two ways to create handgam from sodium tetraborate - with water and without water. In the first case, your slime will turn out a little transparent, in the second - more matte.

Method without using water

Materials and ingredients you will need:

PVA glue - 1 bottle.

Wooden stick.

Cooking method:

Pour glue into the container (all or only part, depending on how many and what size slimes you want to get).

Constantly stirring the glue with a wooden stick, add 1 drop of borax solution to it until the mixture reaches the desired consistency.

Add a couple of drops of gouache or and mix thoroughly with your hands wearing rubber gloves.

Sodium tetraborate slime made according to this recipe can be washed with water if necessary.

Method using water

Materials you will need to make a toy like Slime from sodium tetraborate:

A glass of cold water.

PVA glue - 1 bottle.

Sodium tetraborate (aka borax solution), it is better if it is a solution in glycerin - a few drops.

Food coloring or gouache.

The container in which you will mix everything.

Wooden stick.

Cooking method:

Mix glue and water in a container at a ratio of 1:1.

Pour in a lot of dye.

Mix everything thoroughly.

Add two drops of borax solution and mix until smooth.

If the mass turns out to be too liquid, then add a little more sodium tetraborate.

Sodium tetraborate slime is stored in the refrigerator in airtight packaging. When your homemade “smart” plasticine hardens, add a little water to it.

If you want to get a transparent slime, replace the PVA glue in this recipe with clear stationery glue.

Slime, which contains glue and starch

If you consider a toy that contains sodium tetraborate to be unsafe and unsuitable for playing with a child, or you were unable to buy a borax solution, then your option is homemade slime without sodium tetraborate.

Materials required to make handgam:

Liquid starch for washing clothes (if you do not find starch in liquid form, dilute it yourself in a ratio of 1:3).

Food coloring or gouache.

Dense file.

Cooking method:

Pour 85 ml of liquid starch into a clean, dry file.

Add a little gouache or a couple of drops of food coloring to the starch.

Pour 30 ml of PVA glue into the resulting mixture.

Mash the mixture in the file with your hands, mixing it thoroughly.

After most of the composition has turned into a thick, slippery clot and some liquid remains at the bottom of the bag, remove the slime from the bag and remove excess moisture from it with paper or a cloth.

Lizun is ready.

If you see that the slime is too sticky or not at all plastic, it means you have calculated the proportions incorrectly (in the first case there is too much glue, in the second there is too much starch).

Remember that in addition to harmless starch, such a toy contains glue, so make sure that the child does not put it in his mouth.

It is important to know not only how to make slime without sodium tetraborate, but also how and how long to store it later: store it in a closed container at room temperature for no more than a week.

Slime made from baking soda and detergent

There are a huge number of ways to create “smart” plasticine, similar in its properties to the world famous toy slime.

If your goal is a slime without sodium tetraborate and glue, then we have a couple more options, here is one of them.

Materials and tools you need:

Dishwashing liquid (like Fairy).

Baking soda.

Food coloring or gouache.

Wooden stick (a sushi stick works great).

Cooking method:

Pour 150 ml into container detergent.

Add 1 tbsp. l. soda

Mix the ingredients thoroughly.

Add as much water to the resulting mixture as needed to ensure that the resulting consistency suits you.

Add a few drops of dye (this step is optional, because often the dishwashing liquid already has a fairly bright color that is transferred to the slime).

Slime without PVA glue and sodium tetraborate is ready. Store it in the refrigerator.

Slime with the longest shelf life

As you have probably already noticed, all of the homemade slimes described above have a fairly short shelf life (no more than 2 weeks), this is due to the fact that they contain almost no preservatives or substances that will protect them from drying out.

If you want to make handgam with a longer shelf life, then we have such a recipe. The lifespan of “smart” plasticine, the manufacturing method of which we will now describe, is from 1 to 2 months.

By the way, for this recipe you will need very few ingredients, and you almost certainly have them at home:

Transparent bright color without granules.

Transparent shampoo with bright colors.

Mixing container.

Wooden stick.

Cooking method:

Pour 150 ml of shampoo into a container.

Add 150 ml of shower gel to the shampoo.

Mix the ingredients thoroughly and carefully, making sure no foam forms.

Place the container with the future slime in the refrigerator for a day.

This slime must be stored in the refrigerator, otherwise it will simply melt. As in all other cases, make sure that your child does not taste the handgam and wash their hands thoroughly after playing with it.

The safest slime

If all the methods described above do not seem safe to you and do not inspire confidence in you, but you want to please your child, then we suggest you make a beautiful and interesting toy (slime) without sodium tetraborate and starch, without shampoo and dishwashing detergent, without glue and washing powder.

The shelf life of such a toy is not very long, and it differs noticeably from the original in appearance, but it is safe, and you can be sure that nothing will happen to your child, even if he puts handgam in his mouth.

So, here are the ingredients you will need to make safe “smart” plasticine:

Wheat flour.

Hot water.

Boiling water.

Container for mixing ingredients.

Fork or whisk.

Food coloring (you can even use beet juice or spinach juice, for example).

Cooking method:

Pour 4 cups of flour into a container prepared in advance, sifting it through a sieve.

Add half a glass of ice water to the flour.

Pour half a glass of boiling water there.

Mix everything as thoroughly as possible, the mixture should be smooth and without lumps.

Now it’s the dye’s turn: add a few drops to the mixture and mix everything again.

Place your future safe slime in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours.

The slime is ready, now you can rest assured about your child.

other methods

There are many more ways to make slime. Here are some of them: from washing powder, from a solution of borax and dry (but such handgam needs to be boiled), from plasticine and gelatin, magnetic, etc.

In this article, we tried to describe in as much detail and clearly as possible several completely different, but at the same time very simple ways making slimes. We hope we were able to answer all your questions.

Which of the children, and even adults, would deny themselves a fun game with slime? Make it with my own hands It will take a little time, and you will need even less materials. There are several ways to make this interesting toy from scrap materials.

  • Half a teaspoon of boron.
  • A small bottle of colorless glue.
  • Any harmless dye.
  • Water.

To prepare the mass from which you will eventually get the slime, you need to take any two deep bowls. You definitely need two containers, because the solution is prepared in two parts. Pour a glass of water into one bowl (take warm) and add boron. The resulting mass should be mixed well to obtain a homogeneous consistency.

In the second bowl you need to mix 100 milliliters of water, 30 grams of bleached glue. To add color, use dye; it must be added at this stage. Mix everything well again.

Then you should mix the two components. To do this, carefully pour the contents of the first bowl into the second. In the process of connecting the two parts, the slime will gradually begin to acquire the correct consistency, and the entire mass will be stretchy.

The process of making slime is over, you can start exciting games, the main thing is to make sure that children do not try it with their mouths. This slime should be stored in a well-closed container.

Making slimes from glue and starch

Making slimes from glue and starch with your own hands

Another option, which is even simpler than the previous one.

  • Starch has a liquid consistency.
  • PVA glue.
  • Plastic bag.
  • Dye.

Lizun – this is a toy for children, so all materials should be as natural as possible. If you don't have food coloring, you can replace it with gouache paints. Be careful, if your child is allergic to any dyes, you can make the slime colorless. Special attention You need to pay attention to the production time of the glue, it must be fresh, old glue will not make slime.

You need to take a tight one plastic bag and pour about 70 milliliters of liquid starch into it. Often this starch is used during washing, this is how it differs from food starch. If this is not the case, then you can take the usual one, but it should be diluted: one part water to two parts starch.

Following the starch, add a few drops of natural dye into the bag; the main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise during games the slime will stain not only your hands, but also the surface.
Next, you need to add about 25 grams of PVA glue (be sure to mix the bottle with glue well first).

Now close or tie the bag well and mix thoroughly until the contents resemble a thick mass.

It may not be possible to achieve the correct consistency right away. Don't despair right away, because the rework will only take a few minutes. The main thing is to find a middle ground and mix all the ingredients in the correct proportions.

Also store in a closed container to protect from dust. The service life of this slime is about a week.

Soda slime

This toy can only be given to children in the presence of adults. This is due to the fact that it contains detergent. It is necessary to ensure that the child washes his hands thoroughly after playing.

  • Detergent.
  • Baking soda.
  • Water.
  • Natural dye.

Pour a small amount of detergent into the prepared dishes, add water and dye. With these ingredients you can also adjust the thickness of the resulting mass simply by adding water or detergent.

Add soda to the resulting mass and mix well. The resulting mixture should have sufficient thickness. If too much soda is added, you can dilute it with water to the required consistency.

The color of the resulting slime can be adjusted by adding dyes. That's all, the soda slime is ready for play. Make sure that your child does not taste such a toy.

Another simple option for making slime.

  • Your favorite shampoo.
  • Shower gel or dish detergent.

In prepared dishes, mix equal amounts of shampoo and shower gel or dishwashing detergent. All ingredients must be of uniform consistency and not contain any additional substances, for example, scrub particles, which are often added to shower gels. The color of the slime you get will depend on the materials used.

All components must be mixed well and placed in the same container in which they were mixed in the refrigerator. The resulting mass should remain there for at least a day, only after this time will the slime harden to the correct consistency and you can play with it. It should only be stored in the refrigerator so that it does not melt or lose its shape, in a closed container.

Make sure that the slime remains clean; if there is a lot of dust on it, it should be thrown away and a new one prepared. This toy will last about one month.

Making such slimes at home is not difficult. The only nuance that needs to be taken into account is that to make it you need to take a gel-type washing powder, not a free-flowing one. Unfortunately, it cannot be replaced with either liquid soap or shower gel, because these products contain other components.

  • Gel-like laundry detergent.
  • Stationery glue.
  • Natural dye.
  • Medical or other thin rubber gloves.
  • Storage container.

You need to pour about one-fourth cup of office glue into the prepared container. There may be more or less glue, it depends only on your preferences in the size of the slime. The more glue, the bigger the slime you will make.

Add natural dye of the desired color to the glue and mix the components well so that the glue acquires a uniform color.

You need to add 40 grams of gel powder to the resulting mass. Mix the resulting mass well again. Over time, this mass will become sticky and have the consistency of putty. Make sure that the mixture does not become too thick. If this happens, then you should add a few drops of powder.

Next, you need to put on gloves, take the resulting mass out of the container and start kneading. The process is roughly the same as if you were kneading dough. During kneading, excess liquid, if any, will come out of the slime, and the mass will become soft and elastic.

The resulting slime should be stored in a tightly closed container. If you notice that it has started to melt or has become too soft, you can put it in the refrigerator.

Flour slime

This cooking option is most suitable for young children. If you use dyes made from natural substances, then it becomes completely harmless and is not dangerous to the baby’s health. The only disadvantage of these dyes is that they are not so bright, but they are harmless.

  • Regular flour.
  • Hot water.
  • Cold water.
  • Natural dye.

You need to take a small bowl and pour 400 grams of flour into it. You can sift it through a sieve, so the future mass will be more homogeneous and easier to knead.

Then add a quarter cup to it warm water, it must be just warm, you cannot pour boiling water.

When the mass is well mixed, you can add a few drops of natural dye to it and mix well again. As a result, the mass should be sticky.

Place in a cold place for 4 hours. When the whole mass has cooled and acquired the required form, you can let the children play.

You can get a very interesting slime if you make it magnetic and it also has the property of glowing in the dark. There is no need to buy this slime in the store; you can easily make it yourself.

  • Already familiar bora.
  • Water.
  • Stationery glue.
  • Iron oxide.
  • Neodymium magnet.

You need to mix everything very thoroughly until the boron is completely dissolved in the water. This is prepared in one vessel.

In the second bowl you need to mix 10 milliliters of water and 30 grams of office glue. As before, everything is mixed very well and a coloring agent is added to the resulting mass. If at this stage you add paint that contains phosphorus, you will get a slime that glows in the dark.

Carefully mix the two components of the future slime into a homogeneous mass. The main thing is not to rush and mix everything well, then the mass will turn out to be the desired thickness.

The resulting mass must be divided into flat surface, and add iron oxide to its middle.

A slime that will be magnetic is ready. Now it can be moved using a magnet on a flat surface.

Sometimes situations happen when all the ingredients seem to be correct and the instructions were not deviated from, but the slime still didn’t work out. It's all about the components that you used to make it. Each material is significantly different, various companies Manufacturers, using the same components, can produce a product that is not similar to its analogue. Therefore, you should not strictly adhere to the described proportions; depending on your materials, their quantities may differ. You shouldn’t give up right away, you just need to experiment.

Slime that meets all standards must be a homogeneous mass without special effort removed from the container where you store it.

If your toy is very sticky, you can see this by the threads that will follow the spoon. When you touch it with your fingers, it is too sticky and does not come off well; you need to dilute it slightly. This can be done using water or starch.

When your slime stretches, but practically does not stick, it means that, on the contrary, there is too much liquid. To add thickness, you need to add a little glue or the main ingredient that was used for preparation.

Don’t be afraid to experiment, only by trial and error will you be able to choose the right consistency, and your children will enjoy a new, and most importantly, toy that is absolutely not harmful to the baby’s health.

How to make slime, an unusual toy that easily changes shape, we will look at in detail in this article. You will learn various ways creating interesting fun from improvised means.

To make glitter slime, you need to add some glitter to one of the recipes provided.

As children, we would throw slime as hard as we could onto walls or doors and watch it flow down. Its prototype was the hero of the cartoon about Ghostbusters, where there was a hero named Lizun: a creature that easily changed its shape. Also, the slime was used not only for games: it was easy for them to collect lint from clothes, because there were no special rollers for this yet on free sale.

Despite its rather ancient invention, slime (handgam, slime) is still popular. He develops imagination and fine motor skills, and he's just fun to be with! Of course, you can buy ready-made slime in a store, but its composition is far from natural and safe, so parents often want to make it themselves in order to protect their child. Well, older children will be interested in making it themselves.

So, here are several recipes that differ in composition and degree of difficulty in preparation.

How to make slime from shampoo and salt

This recipe is perhaps the simplest, but requires patience and accuracy.

You only need two ingredients:

  • shampoo – 3-4 teaspoons
  • salt – just a little bit

It's simple: pour shampoo into a container and add salt (at the tip of a spoon). Mix thoroughly and put in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Voila! Slime is ready! However, it will not be the same as store-bought: it sticks a little to your hands and is more suitable for playing with your fingers.

Try to use a thicker shampoo. It's also better to take some beautiful color(fortunately there are many of them now) to get a beautiful result. And remember: there should be very little salt!

How to make slime from plasticine

This handgam turns out fluffy and viscous and pleasant to the touch.

You will need:

  • transparent stationery glue – 200 ml
  • "borax" (sodium tetraborate)
  • light plasticine or modeling mass – 20 g

First, in a separate container, mix 0.5 teaspoon of borax and 350 ml of hot water. Mix thoroughly until the sodium tetraborate is completely dissolved. Let the liquid cool.

Pour in sodium tetraborate and fill it with hot water.

In a second container, mix 20 g of plasticine and 200 ml of glue. We tear the plasticine into small pieces and add it to the glue. Stir until smooth. Little by little we add the borax solution to the resulting mass and, as it were, collect the slime in a pile. We do this until it stops sticking. If this does not happen, then dip the resulting mass into the remaining borax solution and then remember it in your hands. Everything should work out!

In a separate container, mix glue and plasticine.

It can also be done in another way.

You will need:

  • gelatin
  • plasticine

Dilute the gelatin packet according to the instructions and leave for 1 hour. Heat 50 ml of water and pour plasticine into it in small pieces. Stirring constantly, heat until the plasticine dissolves.

Add gelatin to the resulting liquid, continuing to stir until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Let it cool. Here is your handgam!

How to make slime from soap and salt

You will need:

  • liquid soap
  • dye

The recipe is similar to the shampoo recipe. In 3-4 teaspoons liquid soap add a little dye and a couple of salt crystals. Mix all this thoroughly and place in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. After that, mix again and you can play! This handgam turns out to be slightly spreading.

In general, you will need the same amount of liquid soap depending on the size of the slime you want to get. If the soap was of some beautiful color, then the dye may not be used.

How to make slime from shaving foam

You will need:

  • shaving foam
  • PVA glue
  • borax (sodium tetraborate)
  • dye

First, mix water with borax so that it dissolves. Then, into another container, squeeze out the amount of shaving foam of what size handgam we want to get, add 100 ml of PVA glue and mix until the foam becomes viscous and the mass is homogeneous. Add a couple of drops of dye and mix again. Now add the borax solution little by little, continuing to stir until the mass stops sticking to your hands.

How to make slime without:

Most magic gum recipes contain sodium tetraborate, also known as borax, a sodium salt. boric acid, the most common and used boron compound. This substance is sold in pharmacies because has bacteriostatic activity and is not absorbed through intact skin.

It's not expensive. However, what to do if this product is not in the house, you don’t want to go out, and the child persistently demands to make a slime? Let's look at alternative recipes.

How to make slime without sodium tetraborate

To prepare such a toy at your home, you will need:

  • corn starch - 1 cup
  • water at room temperature -1 cup
  • PVA glue - 5 teaspoons (25 ml)
  • food coloring
  • glitter (optional)

First you need to dissolve the starch. To do this, take ¼ cup of water and pour starch into it, stirring slowly. You need to stir until all the lumps are removed. Bring the rest of the water to a boil in a saucepan and then add the starch obtained earlier. If you managed to immediately buy liquid starch, then you do not need to perform all these manipulations.

Now you will need a plastic bag without holes. Put a third of the prepared starch into it, add a few drops of dye, glitter and pour in PVA. Close or tie the bag tightly and thoroughly “knead” (like dough) its contents until smooth. Drain off the remaining liquid and blot the resulting slime with a napkin.

If the slime sticks to your hands, there is too much glue; if it is hard or crumbles, you need to reduce the amount of starch. Also be careful with the dye: if you put too much of it, the toy will stain your hands. The remaining starch can be used to make magic gum of a different color.

The resulting “product” has a shelf life of about a week.

How to make slime without glue

Handgam prepared according to this recipe is very popular and is similar to butter.

You will need:

  • dry starch (any) – 3-4 tablespoons
  • dye
  • detergent (1 spoon)
  • body lotion – 1 spoon.

a) mix detergent and lotion; b) add starch

Mix all the ingredients until you get a mass that does not stick to your hands. If it turns out to be too liquid, then add starch, and if it is too loose, add detergent and body lotion.

a) paint the resulting mass and knead; b) the slime is ready!

How to make slime without starch

You only need one main ingredient: toothpaste. Choose some pretty color.

You can cook it in two ways:

  1. In a water bath. Boil water. Squeeze the amount of paste into the container that is the size you want to get magic chewing gum, place the container on water boiling over low heat and stir for 10-15 minutes. The paste will evaporate excess moisture, and it will become a little loose. We take the resulting mass into our hands, which we first lubricate with any oil (olive, sunflower or baby oil) and knead. In a few minutes the slime is ready!
  2. In the microwave. Once again, squeeze out the same amount of paste into the container as the size you want to get the handgam, and put the container in the microwave for 2 minutes. Take it out, mix it and put it back in the oven for 3 minutes. Then everything is the same: we take the resulting mass into our hands, which we first lubricate with any oil and knead. Voila!

As you can see, you can make this wonderful toy from almost anything you have at home. Happy experimenting!
