How to make a corner bench in a gazebo. How to make a bench: original ideas (drawings, photo reports). What you need to have before starting work

You cannot do without furniture in a gazebo; the most common in this case are benches. If necessary, they can be taken outside or placed in the dressing room.

The photo shows a gazebo with garden furniture

You can replace such pieces of furniture, for example, with chairs, since gazebo chairs will be more compact.

Tools and materials

  • Bulgarian
  • Self-tapping screws
  • Wood.

Making different types of benches

In order to make a bench with your own hands, as shown in photo 1, you need to use a board, the width of which can be 15 or 20 cm, with a thickness of 10-15 mm. It is acceptable to use plywood or OSB. Self-tapping screws are suitable as fasteners, the length of which will be determined by the thickness of the material, so for a board whose thickness is 15 mm, self-tapping screws 35 mm long will be needed. The surface of the workpiece can be treated with sandpaper, the grain size of which is 180 and 100. The work can be done more comfortably if you use a grinder equipped with a grinding wheel.

1 - Dimensions of a wooden bench

To make a bench, you first need to prepare the parts according to the dimensions shown in photo 1. Afterwards they need to be sanded. If you have a milling cutter that allows you to roll a radius, you can use it to form a radius along the sides of the seat of the product and along the ends of the legs, this will make the bench more aesthetically pleasing.

All elements must be connected with self-tapping screws without creating holes for fasteners in the wood, which is true for soft woods. The seat to the legs can be strengthened with 2 self-tapping screws, installing them on top; the same amount of fasteners should be used to attach the crossbars to the legs. Afterwards, you need to strengthen the seat to the crossbar with 2 screws. If you are interested in the question of how to make a bench not only durable, but also beautiful, after completing the mounting, you need to cover the product with paint or varnish using a brush.

If the gazebo is large, you can install a more massive bench in its space. The height of the product will be 50 cm, the length will be determined by the size of the boards that are available; in the example described, this figure will be 120 cm.

2 - Attaching the legs to the bench

In order to make a bench, you need to use 4 blanks, which will be used to make the legs. Their thickness is 4 cm, each length is 48 cm. Using 2 bars with dimensions of 15x20 mm, you need to connect 2 legs so that they, located at an angle of 90° relative to the seat, do not extend beyond its limits, as shown in photo 2. The boards should be fastened with self-tapping screws, the size of which should be 3.5x50 mm.

It is necessary to prepare a rail, the dimensions of which are 900x15x20 mm, with the help of which you can connect the legs. The bench for the gazebo will gain full rigidity if the structure is supplemented with side slats, which need to be strengthened at an angle. To do this, you will need to use slats with dimensions of 20x15 mm; the length can be arbitrary. The blanks must be attached to finished product on the sides to mark their location. In the marked places, grooves should be formed, the depth of which will be equal to the parameters of the slats, and it is recommended to use a hacksaw or jigsaw.

Then use a hammer and chisel to knock out the grooves. Once the slats have been inserted into them, you can fasten the elements with self-tapping screws; alternatively, you can use nails. At this point we can assume that the bench is ready; you just need to correct the protruding elements with a jigsaw or hacksaw.

If you don’t want to varnish the bench, you can cover the seat with oilcloth, strengthening its edges with a stapler. This decorative option will allow you to make your own bench for the gazebo softer; for this, you can lay foam rubber under the oilcloth.

Visual instructions for making a bench with your own hands are presented in this video:

Making a sofa for a gazebo

If you want to install more comfortable pieces of furniture in the gazebo, a frame like the one in photo 3 can become the basis for a sofa. The sofa must be made of boards and beams. As a material for the manufacture of structures with my own hands for the gazebo you can use pine, from which you need to prepare a board of 15x2 cm, timber of 10x5 cm and 5x5 cm, as well as planks with dimensions of 4x2 cm.

The sofa will have a height of 510 mm, taking this into account, you will need blanks for the legs made of timber, the final dimensions are 100x50 mm. The legs should have dimensions equal to 550 mm and 620 mm. One workpiece must be larger, because the back should be strengthened to it. The legs should be connected to each other using the half-tree method.

3 - Sofa option for gazebo

The sofa will have a length of 130 cm; for a seat of this size it is recommended to use boards 30-40 mm thick. You also need to prepare 4 boards with dimensions of 130x15 cm, two of which will be needed for the seat, and the other two for the back. The bars with a cross-section of 5x5 cm will become supports for the seat, and they will also strengthen the legs. The legs must be placed in the grooves, installed on the surface and reinforced with a block. A strip with dimensions of 40x20 mm will allow you to connect legs with a length of 1030 mm. It is necessary to lay the board on top, measuring the distance between the legs at 1030 mm along the outside, after which you can fasten it with screws.

Another board should be strengthened as a backrest to the beams. The leg beams will need to be reinforced with bolts. The sofa should be sanded before painting. To make the frame soft, the back and seat can be covered with fabric, placing foam rubber under it. Visible areas should be coated in several layers with varnish intended for outdoor use. The sofa will become more aesthetically pleasing if the paint is matched to the color of the upholstery.

Pallet bench

4 - Option for a bench made from pallets

If you are faced with the task of how to make a bench from improvised materials, you can use pallets as a material; the result should be a bench, as shown in photo 4. Making a gazebo structure with your own hands will turn out to be the fastest and least labor-intensive task among other solutions.

To make a bench for a gazebo, you can use boards from pallets. An alternative solution would be boards that are 20-22 mm thick. When purchasing boards for such a product, you should give preference to boards with a width of 100 mm. Euro pallets can have a length of 1000 or 1200 mm, you can choose one of the existing options.

Such a bench for a gazebo with your own hands should be given a comfortable height of 450 mm. If you are faced with the task of how to make the structure a decoration for the gazebo, the blanks should be sanded to remove chips and irregularities. The pallets can be fastened together with self-tapping screws.

Making chairs

In the gazebo, for example, you can sit at a small coffee table while playing cards on warm evenings, for which chairs are perfect, as shown in photo 5.

5 - coffee table and wooden chairs

And if necessary, they can be disassembled and folded for storage. Chairs with this design should be made using a screwdriver or drill. For the work you will need PVA and paint.

Such chairs will have a shield at the base, the thickness of which is 28 mm, the total area for one product is 0.8 m2. Chairs can be made from plywood or OSB; wide boards are also suitable. You can calculate the dimensions of the structure and use them to make a chair for the gazebo yourself. Every master will think about how to make such chairs even more comfortable, the answer to the question will be soft pillows, which can be laid on top. Each can be strengthened with braid, which should be sewn to the corners.

It doesn’t matter what you decide to make, a sofa, chair or benches for a gazebo on your own, it is important to make the correct marks before cutting, and then connect all the elements.

A gazebo is one of the main attributes country life. Here you can relax, play board games, chat with friends, arrange small family gatherings. But for all this to become possible, a table and benches must be installed in it. Garden furniture not only fulfills its main function, but also creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.

A small wooden hexagonal table will fit into any gazebo

Types of tables for gazebos

Based on the shape of the tabletop, there are 3 types of tables:

  • square (rectangular);
  • round;
  • polygonal.

Round tables are considered the most popular and convenient. The smooth shape makes them ideal for all types of gazebos.

Several materials can be used in the manufacture of tables: metal, plastic, wood, as well as their combinations. Each option has its pros and cons. Metal tables are durable, but have high cost and get very hot in hot weather. Plastic options They are inexpensive, but will not last long.

The combination of wooden tabletops or seats with brick foundations, especially if the same materials were used in the construction of the gazebo.

Most available material Wood is considered to be used for making gazebo furniture. Wood is environmentally friendly, easy to process, and has an affordable price. A wooden table can be bought at any specialized point of sale, but the owner’s special pride will be furniture made with his own hands.

Preliminary preparation

Approximate scheme for the construction of a wooden rectangular table and benches

Before starting work, you need to consider several important points:

  1. The size of the table must match the design of the gazebo. If the space is small, then it is better to stop at classic version– a tabletop fixed on a sturdy stand. If space allows, you can install a table on two supports.
  2. The shape of the tabletop should be in harmony with the configuration of the gazebo. For example, polygonal or round tables are considered a good option for 6-sided buildings.
  3. The optimal table height is about 80 cm. But here you need to focus on the average height of family members.
  4. It is advisable to think in advance whether the table will be portable or stationary and decide on the number of legs.
  5. The size and placement of furniture should not impede movement within the building.

Portable furniture is a great option for small gazebos. If necessary, it can simply be removed or moved to another location.

Tools

For making wooden table You will need a certain set of tools:

  • electric or chainsaw (you can use a simple hacksaw);
  • chisel;
  • axe;

It is also necessary to install a bench in a gazebo, which is usually built with your own hands. Return to contents

What material are the benches made of?

Bench diagram.

A bench can be made from various materials. In the last century, materials such as wrought iron, marble, stone and wood were especially popular. Today modern materials Synthetic fiber and plastic are considered for making benches. Quite often, craftsmen skillfully combine several materials at the same time. For example, benches are organically made of stone and iron, organic glass and wood, wood and forged steel.

The choice of material used depends entirely on the style in which you plan to make the bench. For the playground are considered ideal option benches made entirely of wood or plastic. Such structures can be easily moved or removed completely.

When planning to make comfortable benches for a gazebo with your own hands, it is better to start from the style of the building itself.

If the gazebo is made of iron, then the bench should be made of steel. But only a master with the appropriate tools and special equipment can make such a bench. But any owner can create a wooden bench with his own hands; to do this, it is enough to have the desire and adhere to certain rules in performing the work. Return to contents

How to make your own wooden bench

A wooden bench can easily be used in a bathhouse, on a playground, or installed in a garden. But you definitely need such a bench for your gazebo, made with your own hands. All required material for this it is considered quite budget option, and it can be easily found in your backyard or purchased at a hardware store. It is important that it is easy to work with wood at home; no special equipment is required. The final work itself is pleasant to look at, and it is much more comfortable to sit on wooden benches than on iron and stone benches.

Technology for creating a bench:

  1. First of all, you should create a drawing of the structure itself in order to visualize what the final result will look like, what materials and in what quantity will be needed? To do this, you need to determine the desired dimensions and dimensions; this is best done immediately on the site.
  2. Having determined the height, width and length of the bench, you can begin to create a drawing. For example, it is considered standard to calculate the height of a bench from the ground to the seat to be about 60 cm. But if the bench is made for children, then its height will be much less. If you plan to make a bench with a back, then you should determine the parameter of the back and its angle of inclination.
  3. To perform a bench it is best to use edged boards with a cross section of 25 mm. Here you should pay attention to the fact that the material is good quality, without knots or visible defects.
  4. Boards in the amount of 5 pieces should be planed and sanded. Of these, 2 will go to the back of the bench, and 3 to the seat.
  5. Using an electric planer, special grooves 10 mm deep and 30 mm wide are made in the boards intended for the backrest.
  6. Vertical strips for the backrest, 10 mm thick, are cut out of the clapboard scraps. Their optimal location is at a distance of 120 mm from each other.
  7. The handrails at the bench can be made into shapes by cutting them out with a jigsaw. It is better to choose a pattern that is not complicated. To perform some curly elements, you need to make the desired sketch of the design, and then transfer it to a special template using a hacksaw and jigsaw. It is more appropriate to use the same pattern on the back of the bench.
  8. It is advisable to make the outer part of the handrail narrower, so it will be more convenient to lean on it.
  9. The supports for the handrail are made of planed timber with a flat part for fastening. Or in this case, you can also use the front legs of the bench, which need to be made higher, that is, not up to the seat, but up to the handrail.
  10. All parts of the bench will be assembled using self-tapping screws for woodworking, with an anti-corrosion coating.

A gazebo without furniture is like cheese without milk and sausage without meat. There is no benefit to it in such a performance. You won't rest in it after working day and you won’t be able to have get-togethers with friends. That is why the arrangement of a gazebo should be taken seriously. If you want to save money, then, in principle, you can always make furniture for the gazebo with your own hands. How to implement this? This will be discussed in the article.

How the garden chairs and table in the gazebo will look largely depends on how the constructed structure looks, namely the materials from which it is made and its configuration. So, furniture can be:

  1. Portable or built-in. It's up to you to make built-in furniture during the construction of the gazebo or after completing this process. You can also make a built-in table with portable chairs/benches or vice versa. It all depends on your preferences. If you decide to install built-in furniture, then you should take into account the fact that the distance between the table and the bench should be within 5–10 cm.
  2. From different materials. For example, if the gazebo is wooden, then to achieve harmony, tables and chairs should be made of wood. And if the frame of the building is made of metal, then the bases of the table and chairs must be appropriate.
  3. With different bench widths. A person with normal weight will feel comfortable on a bench 40–60 cm wide. If you and your family members do not have problems with excess weight, then you can make benches of this width. Well, if this is not the case, then it is better to add a few centimeters to the proposed width.
  4. Different configurations. If you have a hexagonal gazebo, then the best option for arranging it would be a hexagonal or octagonal table. Another option is to make the table round. In a rectangular gazebo it is better to install a rectangular or oval table. That is, the configuration of the table should correspond as much as possible to the shape of the gazebo.

A table is an essential item in a gazebo. Of course you can buy plastic table, which is low in cost, but it is much more pleasant to make this design yourself. You can make furniture high quality, By affordable price and according to the design you like.

Before making a table/chairs for the gazebo, you should purchase the appropriate building materials. The easiest way is to take a large log, cut it in half horizontally, process it with a plane and place it on the appropriate leg. But this solution may not be practical. Therefore, we suggest you build a table from boards and beams. The result is a strong and stable structure.

It is important to do all measurements and preparation of parts very carefully. It is better to make a table from expensive quality wood. Before you start purchasing and slicing wooden elements, draw a drawing of the table on paper. Put dimensions on it, which will allow you to calculate the amount of material with maximum accuracy.

First make the tabletop. Alternatively, assemble it from boards or use a ready-made furniture board. Optimal size boards for making countertops – 75×25 mm. To prevent the tabletop from loosening, attach several guide bars to it on the back side. The easiest way to secure them is with self-tapping screws.

If you position the guides diagonally, you will be able to make drawer. You can store various little things in it.

So, to make a box under the tabletop in the middle of the long edge of the table, fasten 2 beams with a cross-section of 50x50 mm. The distance between the bars should be 30 cm. C inside fix 2 strips of beams. These will serve as drawer guides. It's time to make a box of the appropriate width, that is, equal to 30 cm. Stuff the same 2 strips on the sides of the box and strips corresponding to its width in the front and back. Place the drawer under the countertop.

If the table is mobile, then all you need to complete its construction is to install 4 durable legs. But, in cases where the table is built-in, a foundation must be installed in advance to install it. It can be concrete or brick. A simpler solution is to make stable, strong legs, dig them in and concrete them.

The table frame should be 15–30 cm smaller than the tabletop. This should be taken into account when installing the legs.

If massive beams were chosen as legs for the built-in table, then before installing them in the recesses, the wood should be treated with a special protective compound against rotting. Then install them, check verticality, fix and fill the solution. To make the table stable, you need to wait a few days until the concrete hardens.

The optimal height of the table is 75–80 cm. This means that the height of the legs depends on the thickness of the tabletop.

Before screwing the screws and installing the mounting corners, lubricate the fastening points with an adhesive, for example, PVA with fine sawdust.

Next you need to attach the tabletop to the legs. Sand the table and apply an antiseptic to it, and then a fire retardant. After the table has dried, you can open it with varnish or paint it. Apply paint coating in several layers. The structure is ready.

The gazebo can be equipped not only with benches, but also with chairs or sofas. You can make any of the listed seating products from leftovers after construction. For example, you can build a seat and back from the remains of wood, and the support of a chair/bench from stone.

Benches can be installed on both sides of the tabletop. In this case, they must match the length of the table. They can also be installed around the perimeter, so that all vacationers can see each other during communication.

For convenience, the table can be made folding or not installed at all. So, to make a bench without a back you will need:

  • wooden seat;
  • 4 legs;
  • fastener

This simple bench can be made in just a few hours. To make it, you just need to connect the wooden seat with the legs. The principle of operation here is the same as when making a table with timber legs.

To make a wooden folding chair you will need:

  • screwdriver/drill;
  • plane;
  • jigsaw;
  • chisel;
  • sander;
  • groove cutters;
  • drills for making holes of various diameters;
  • wood screws with a length of 7 cm and a diameter of 8–10 mm;
  • varnish/paint.

Beam with a section of 25×40:

  • for a long leg – 91 cm long, 2 pcs.;
  • for a short leg – length 55.7 cm, 2 pcs.;
  • for sitting – length 31.5 cm, 2 pcs.;
  • length 34 cm, 6 pcs.;
  • for the back – 42 cm long, 1 pc.;
  • for jumper – 34 cm, 1 pc.

Jumper with a diameter of 18 mm, a length of 34 cm – 3 pcs.

  • card loop for attaching to the back leg of the chair and the bottom of the seat – 2 pcs.;
  • bolts Ø=8 mm, length 70 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • washers for Ø=8 mm – 6 pcs.;
  • furniture dowels Ø=10 mm, length 50 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • cap nuts – 4 pcs.;
  • waterproof glue for working with wood;
  • pin Ø=8 mm, length 470 mm with double-sided thread.

First of all, make an action plan and draw a drawing. Cut out the blanks according to the dimensions. You need to drill holes in them and make grooves with a milling cutter. Assemble the connections in this order:

  1. On the support block, insert the slats into the groove with a tenon.
  2. Glue the parts together.
  3. Insert furniture dowels into the holes at the ends of the seat, which are 30 mm deep.

The next step is to assemble the chair frame:

  • You need to attach the backrest to the posts with glue, and a cross member on their bottom side.
  • The seat dowels should be inserted into the guide grooves on the legs.
  • Install the stud under the seat by screwing M8 cap nuts onto it on both sides.
  • Glue crossbars into the back leg.
  • Bolt the front and back legs together to create a folding chair.
  • Now you need to screw the seat to the rear legs. This can be done using ombre loops.

Finally, the chair or chairs, if you have collected several, should be painted with protective agents.

The technology for making a folding chair was given above and, perhaps, not everyone can master it. And making several of these folding chairs will take a lot of time. So now we'll look at more simple methods manufacturing furniture for gazebos.

One way is to use saw cuts big trees. You need to cut the trunk on both sides to secure the wooden bench. On two large saw cuts you can install a massive tabletop, which is also easy to make. Connecting the tabletop to the base is very simple. Next, you will need to process the wood and install the entire structure in the gazebo. The photo shows how simple this design is.

If you need less massive benches, then saw the trunk lengthwise into 2 parts. Make recesses in it on the bottom side for installation on cuts of a smaller diameter. Place the trunk on the “legs” in the gazebo and process the wood.

Do you only have hemp at your disposal? Don’t be upset, your original gazebo can be decorated with furniture made from them. Small stumps will be used as chairs, and a large stump will be used for the base of the table. The photo shows a tabletop in the form of a large saw cut, but if you don’t find one, you can make it from a wooden panel, cutting it, for example, into a round shape.

A built-in table in a gazebo can be built from bricks that you may have left over after construction. This design will serve you faithfully for many years.

To make this table you need to follow step by step instructions:

  • First of all, strengthen the base for installing the table. Dig a small hole, fill the bottom with crushed stone and level it. Lay it on him waterproofing layer. Then fill the base with concrete.
  • Now make a square table base. Dimensions: 2–3 bricks in length and 6–8 in height.
  • Place the tabletop on this base. It could be wooden shield or a stone blank. It all depends on your financial capabilities.

A simple wooden table will not take you much time to make, but will last a long time. Its approximate dimensions are shown in the photo.

Manufacturing sequence:

  • Make a drawing. Prepare tools/materials.
  • The supports can have different shapes, but as a rule, X-shaped legs are used. To make them, fasten 2 bars together in the center at an angle of 45º. For reliability, they should be reinforced on top with additional strips.
  • The X-shaped legs should be connected by two bars, which are installed parallel to each other and correspond to the length of the table.
  • The tabletop can be made from 5–7 boards. Install it on the prepared supports. Use furniture corners as fasteners.

Upon completion of all work, treat the table with paints and varnishes.
