DIY kitchen sofa drawings. A DIY kitchen sofa is a cozy place for drinking tea. Making a long sofa

A kitchen sofa is a practical and comfortable solution. In Soviet-style apartments, kitchens are not spacious. And a small sofa with storage drawers solves two problems at the same time: you can comfortably sit on it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you can place kitchen utensils or food supplies in the drawers. Our article is devoted to the intricacies of making a sofa for the kitchen yourself.

Peculiarities

Modern layouts They provide kitchens with a fairly large area, but even here the sofa will fit well into the interior. This can be a sofa with storage space for kitchen utensils or a full-fledged sofa with an extra bed. In stock furniture stores There are sofas for every taste and in different price categories.

But, despite this, it is not always possible to choose something that will harmoniously fit into the interior of the kitchen and suit you in terms of quality and price. A solution in this situation could be a homemade sofa. You can make with your own hands exactly what fits perfectly with the existing design.

This task seems difficult only at first glance. To make this type of furniture, no special equipment is required. By following the instructions, you can easily cope with this matter.

A homemade sofa for the kitchen will allow you to:

  • save your budget;
  • select quality materials;
  • choose the best functionality that meets your needs.

Preparatory stage

First you need to think about the design and functionality of the future sofa. If you haven’t had to make furniture yourself from scratch before, you shouldn’t immediately invent complex design with many elements. We give preference to the standard and convenient model.

An ordinary sofa necessarily has a frame or frame - this is its skeleton, which gives shape and rigidity. As a support, you can make legs or a roller mechanism, in stores furniture fittings the choice is great. If additional storage space is needed, we plan folding seats, and drawers underneath them. We also decide for ourselves how soft or hard the sofa should be.

It is important to decide on the size at the planning stage so as not to overload the space. And decide which shape of the sofa is suitable, taking into account the location and dimensions of the kitchen: straight or corner.

The straight version is a classic, suitable for small spaces and has more simple design. The corner model has a large number of seating areas and allows for efficient use of space.

The direct purpose of a kitchen sofa is a place to sit. In order to more fully use the space, especially when it is in short supply, we will add additional options to the furniture:

  • storage niches under folding seats or drawers;
  • a sleeping place for guests if you make a folding sofa (this is a more complex mechanism);
  • additional shelves or table top in the corner section: here you can place magazines with recipes, household appliances or flowers.

Materials used

Frame

Special requirements does not apply to the frame material. It is better, of course, to use natural wood, which will increase the service life of the product, but will also significantly increase its cost. Budget options use bars and plywood. Decorative parts can be made of chipboard. You can choose these elements to match the color kitchen set for completeness of the composition.

The legs and back should be more durable; bars measuring 60x60 mm are suitable for them. It is better to use moisture-resistant plywood with a thickness of at least 12 mm. Angles and screws are used to assemble the frame. The only requirement for them is increased strength, since the finished product is subjected to constant loads.

Upholstery

It is very unpleasant if, after a fish dinner, the sofa exudes the corresponding aroma for a long time, so the upholstery material should not absorb moisture and odors. Besides the smell, another enemy of the kitchen sofa is grease. The upholstery material should be easy to wash and not be afraid of cleaning agents. The upholstery should be made of dense material so that it does not tear or deform during use.

Artificial materials meet these requirements. For additional protection, you can sew a cover that is always easy to remove and wash. And changing the cover is easier and cheaper than restoring a sofa and reupholstering it. Also necessary requirements the skin answers. Such a sofa looks noble and elegant, however, it will cost more.

Budget upholstery options:

  • cotton is a natural dense material;
  • flock is a practical durable material that does not require special care, animal hair does not stick to it, holes from their claws are invisible on it;
  • jacquard - dense material, wear-resistant, does not fade in the sun;
  • velor - inexpensive beautiful fabric, but wears out quickly, easily absorbs moisture, dirt and grease, and loses its appearance due to frequent cleaning;
  • artificial leather does not fade, is easy to clean and is not afraid of sunlight.

Luxury materials:

  • microfiber is a very durable material with Teflon impregnation, due to which water is repelled, the fabric is resistant to abrasion and contamination;
  • tapestry – natural fabric, has high wear resistance;
  • chenille - the threads of this material are fluffy, which creates a special texture; the fabric does not require complex care;
  • genuine leather is an expensive material, but it will last a long time, does not require special care, but you should not rub it too much, otherwise the area may become lighter.

Filling

Many materials are used as filling: padding polyester, foam rubber, batting, holofiber, felt. We select the thickness of the material based on the requirements for softness. A semi-hard sofa has a filler thickness of 5 cm, so if you want something softer, you should do more. If the requirements for the rigidity of the sofa in the family differ, you can make the thickness of the filling minimal and additionally sew pillows.

Unprotected wooden parts needs to be painted or varnished. You can also cover the sofa with fabric where possible. Laying the filler in layers allows you to create an orthopedic effect.

Mechanism

If you are planning a folding sofa, then you need to select the appropriate mechanism.

  • Accordion Suitable for limited space. In this version, the seat moves forward and the backrest falls into its place.
  • Book– a frequently encountered mechanism, such a sofa unfolds like an open book. It is compact and easy to assemble.
  • Click-clack– this mechanism is similar to the “book” option. Convenient to use in small spaces. The mechanism allows for the possibility of lifting both parts.
  • Roll-out mechanism- the simplest option. Rolls out when used bottom part sofa, and a sleeping place rises from it. It is quite possible to make such a design yourself.
  • Dolphin– the mechanism involves pulling out the lower block. One of the most simple options unfolding.

Step by step instructions

Let's look at an example of making a corner sofa for the kitchen.

Construction of a drawing

The design of a corner sofa has its own characteristics and in order to comply with all the nuances, it is necessary to first take measurements and draw a drawing.

It is worth considering the following points:

  • general dimensions of the entire sofa and its individual sections;
  • height of legs;
  • load on structural elements: strengthen in the most loaded places (if you plan to store heavy objects in boxes, it is worth strengthening the bottom more reliably);
  • the angle of the backrest, taking into account the thickness of the upholstery and the expected presence of pillows;
  • thickness, hardness and upholstery material;
  • mechanisms for opening seats and pulling out drawers.

The drawing can be made on paper or in drawing programs. You can use ready-made diagrams that are available on thematic sites: furniture or construction.

Manufacturing process

Once you have decided on the dimensions of the product, upholstery and filling materials, and have drawn a drawing, you can calculate the amount of material and get to work. You can cut out the parts yourself or seek the help of specialists. They will do this work quickly and accurately, and will also process the edges. True, this will affect the final cost of the sofa.

For self-cutting and assembly wooden frame You will need a screwdriver, saw and miter box. A furniture stapler is used for upholstery. First of all, you need to cut out the parts in accordance with the prepared diagram.

The long part consists of:

  • seats;
  • backrests;
  • sidewalls – 2 pcs.;
  • side parts for drawers ( long sides) – 2 pcs.;
  • frame made of bars.

Soft kitchen sofas are the most popular pieces of furniture used for furnishing kitchen space or dining area. They are quite functional, but do not take up too much space, which is important for small spaces. In addition, the design of such a piece of furniture is quite simple, so anyone who knows how to hold a hammer, screwdriver and drill can make a sofa for the kitchen with their own hands. And so that you don’t have any difficulties during the manufacturing process, our specialists will tell you in detail all the subtleties and nuances of this process.

First of all, you should decide on the appearance of the sofa that you would like to get as a result. You should not overly complicate the design and introduce creative elements that are difficult to implement, because not everything can be done at the proper level at home. It’s worth staying simple, but convenient option, which will delight you and your guests.

A standard sofa should have a frame supported by legs; you can also use roller mechanisms. The design with folding seats gives access to niches that can be used as drawers. At this stage you need to decide how much soft sofa you want what the color scheme and upholstery material should be so that it will be easy to clean in the future.

You need to be very careful when planning the size of your future sofa, since the dimensions must be commensurate with the space it should occupy. You should make all measurements in advance and prepare a drawing for the manufacture of furniture.

If this is your first experiment in making furniture at home, then you should opt for the folding option rather than making a corner. A rectangular sofa with legs is much easier to make, and it’s much more difficult to make mistakes in sizing calculations.

The frame can be made of timber; pine wood, which is held together with screws, is better suited for this. To avoid the formation of longitudinal cracks, it is worth placing fasteners at different levels. To make the structure as strong as possible, the bars should be screwed to the corners of the frames, which have a cubic shape.

The fastening elements will be screws, since they are most convenient for fixing wooden structure. It is better to make the bottom of the sofa, as well as the seat covers, from plywood.

The standard set of furniture for arranging a dining area includes a table, a corner sofa and stools.

The workpieces are sanded and leveled, and only then can they be marked and sawed. The average length of a corner sofa is 120 by 90 cm, the corner insert is 45 by 45 cm, and the back height is 85.5 cm.

First, according to the drawings, the main parts of the sofa are made from kitchen corner- these are the sidewalls. They are made from a thick sheet of plywood. The markings are made with a pencil, and then the part of the kitchen corner sofa is cut out along the lines with a jigsaw.

The next step is to make two frames from 4 by 4 centimeter beams for both sides of the sofa. Both frames should be in the form of parallelepipeds, which are then fixed to the sidewalls. The connections at the corners should look like a mustache and a spike, which are subsequently glued. The T and L joints must be at a 90 degree angle.

At the corners, the connections can be with through holes or hidden, go in half of the beam, and also be one, two, three tenons. They are secured with dowels or corners with self-tapping screws.

The frame of the corner sofa for the kitchen is connected to the back and secured on the sides. When the base is ready, you can assemble the hinged seat covers. Seats can be solid or sectional.

Frames are made from a bar 2.5 by 2.5 centimeters thick rectangular shape for seats. Then they are sewn up with centimeter plywood. The seats are cleaned and covered with a layer of stain and varnish. Then foam rubber is glued and the fabric is stuffed.

A piano loop is attached to the long part of the corner sofa seats. Fastening the hinged covers is done at the end of the work. The corner module is assembled in the same way. A frame is made from a 4 by 4 centimeter block. The profile should be triangular in shape and have sides at angles of 45 and 90 degrees. The module is covered with plywood.

Assembled two parts of sofas and corner module sanded. Open wooden elements are opened with stain and, accordingly, on top with three layers of varnish. All parts are placed on the sofa legs and fastened together. The connection takes place using screws to the frame support. There must be at least 8 legs.

Structural details are adjusted when adjusting the height of the legs. Marks are made in the places of future fastening. Holes for bolts with a diameter of 0.8 centimeters are drilled. Bolts and washers for them should have wide margins. There should be twice as many washers as there are bolts, so that one goes under the bolt and the other goes under the nut.

The upholstery fabric depends on the proximity of the sofa to the stove and sink. The surface should be easy to clean and not exposed to chemicals.

For small sofa 5 cm foam rubber is suitable. For a semi-soft corner larger size, the padding is taken from padding polyester. Foam rubber or padding polyester is glued to the back with glue. The fabric is cut out according to patterns and stapled onto the back side of the backrest, as well as at the junction of the backrest and the seat. The material is stretched and securely fastened at the corners. Then it is fixed around the entire perimeter.

Armrests are made from timber 4 by 4 cm thick. Do not forget to make grooves with a depth of 2 - 3 cm. The width of this groove depends on the thickness of the side of the wall. The workpiece is finished with filler and upholstered with fabric. The armrests are covered with glue, inserted into the sides and secured with screws. Deciding on design and construction

Before you make a sofa for the kitchen with your own hands, you need to decide on the design:

  1. A straight sofa is a simple piece of furniture with a solid frame, partial or full upholstery of the body. It can be with or without armrests, include niches under the seat and additional shelves. Straight folding is popular upholstered furniture, allowing you to organize additional beds at any time.
  2. A kitchen sofa with a corner design is most often used. It saves space, as it involves installation in the most unclaimed places in the room.

The choice of sofa design for the kitchen is based on the interior of the room and the tastes of the owners. You can create a bench with ready-made purchased legs made of wood or metal or include them in the drawing of the side faces, or you can exclude the legs and thereby get a deeper niche under the seat.

The upholstery methods themselves also differ in design. A sofa with soft inserts will cost less. Fully upholstered furniture looks much cozier and richer.

Features of kitchen corner sofas

The main feature of the corner kitchen sofa is its L-shape. It consists of 3 parts: short, longer and connecting in the form of a quarter circle. There are sofas that are made up of 2, 4 or more parts that are not attached to each other (modular). They are additionally equipped with ottomans and tables.

Corner sofas differ in functionality depending on the additional equipment. They are equipped with hidden storage spaces under the seat, open shelves in the armrests and on the backrest, drawers and even a sleeping place.

Often the backs of the corners are only slightly inclined to occupy as much space as possible. less space near the wall. If the size of the room allows it, you should consider how to make a corner sofa more luxurious. You can equip it with curved soft armrests and a backrest, and increase the depth of the sofa seat.

Sofa with sleeper

Kitchen sofas are primarily designed for sitting. The depth of such a product does not exceed 50 cm. This is not enough to lie down. To solve this problem, manufacturers provide straight and corner kitchen sofas with a transformation function or hide the sleeping area inside the furniture.

Home distinctive characteristic is the transformation mechanism:

  • Roll-out is the simplest. Allows you to roll out the lower block of the sofa and expand the soft area.
  • The book is the most common mechanism with a lowering sofa back.
  • Dolphin - a sleeping place is created by pulling out the lower sofa block.
  • Accordion is the most compact sofa. Does not require additional space behind the back. Folding out consists of two stages: pulling out the seat and placing it in the resulting niche of the backrest.
  • Click-klyak is an improved book. Allows you to further lower the side parts, so the finished product can be much smaller than the standard.

When choosing the design of a corner sofa for a kitchen with a sleeping place, special attention need to pay attention to quality sliding mechanisms, the strength of the fastenings, the absence of visible defects, otherwise the furniture will not last long.

If the creation of a kitchen sofa implies the presence of a sleeping place, the best option there will be a folding bed built inside (meralat folding mechanism).

Kitchen sofa of non-standard sizes

A radical redevelopment of the apartment can lead to the fact that the dining nook offered by the manufacturers does not fit into the kitchen. In such cases, it is advisable to order custom sizes, however, such a purchase can hit the family budget hard.

In order to reduce expenses on an additional piece of furniture, the owners make a decision. If you approach the matter wisely and patiently, creating an original sofa will not take much time and effort.

With storage box

When making a corner sofa with your own hands, you should not neglect the opportunity to provide it with additional storage space for rarely used kitchen utensils.

For this purpose, a special cavity is allocated in the body of the future corner, into which a retractable mechanism is built in and a spacious drawer is attached. Fastening the seat to wide curtains makes it possible to lift it and access the internal spaces of the sofa parts.

Drawings and diagrams

The work begins with the creation (after having familiarized yourself with the kitchen corners presented by the manufacturers) of a furniture project in a single copy; you need to analyze what the end will look like, parts with upholstery, shape finished product.

The most important part of designing a kitchen sofa:

  • correctly determine the location;
  • take measurements;
  • Based on the data received, create drawings and assembly diagrams.

The proposed ready-made options differ from the required dimensions, so the drawing will have to be drawn from start to finish, using the existing ones as a basis:

  1. The width of the walls near which the corner will stand (the width of both parts minus 40-50 cm is taken as a basis, depending on the depth of the seat). Calculations are needed to compensate for the dimensions of the connecting part.
  2. The height of the seat and backrest is determined if it is necessary to deviate from the standard dimensions.
  3. The front lower part of the body is attached at an angle for a comfortable position of the legs. It will be slightly larger than the back panel. This also needs to be taken into account.
  4. Depending on the thickness of the material used, the width of the main parts of the corner is reduced.

Based on the data obtained, the size of each individual piece is calculated, the number required material and accessories. An exact drawing of each individual element is drawn.

The diagram will later help you figure out how to make a sofa for the kitchen with your own hands, tell you the position of the parts, fastening points, and determine the procedure.

Required materials

The choice of material depends on the bench model, financial capabilities and appearance of the finished product. The most reliable wooden sofas will cost more, and wood processing will require additional effort and skills. Therefore, you should consider materials for making a budget version of the corner. For this you will need:

  • Wooden beams for creating a frame and auxiliary lintels.
  • Laminated chipboard or plywood sheets with a thickness of at least 16 mm.
  • Fibreboard for hiding the edges of the lining and making the bottom of the box.
  • Lifting or roller mechanisms (if necessary).
  • Filling for soft parts (foam rubber, padding polyester, holofiber).
  • Upholstery material.
  • Self-tapping screws, nails, screws and steel corners, staples for a construction stapler, glue.

Upholstery selection

The upholstery material should not only be pleasant to the touch, but also have a beautiful appearance. The main characteristics of fabrics in the kitchen: do not absorb moisture and odors, have a high degree of retention of their original shape and are easy to clean. The upholstery of the kitchen sofa must fully comply with all these requirements.

The most reliable and luxurious material is leather, but its price is appropriate. Of the more common budget options There is a conditional rating of fabric for upholstery:

  1. Cotton is a natural fabric. Subject to fading in the sun and severely deformed.
  2. Velor looks beautiful, but wears out quickly.
  3. Jacquard is a dense fabric. Virtually unaffected by ultraviolet radiation and mechanical damage.
  4. Microfiber is a durable fabric impregnated with Teflon.
  5. Chenille is a textured fabric made of fluffy threads. Easy to clean.
  6. Tapestry is a natural woven material with a high degree of wear resistance.

It is customary to perform upholstery with a single piece of fabric, but lovers of needlework, when creating a sofa with their own hands, can give it uniqueness by using material made in the patchwork style (patchwork upholstery) from pieces different colors and textures.

Required Tools

It is necessary to prepare a standard set of tools:

  • Ruler, tape measure, pencil, construction knife and scissors.
  • Hand saw for wood or electric jigsaw for cutting blanks and pieces of timber.
  • Grinding machine for processing wood cuts. To avoid sanding, you can hide the edges under hardware or upholstery.
  • Electric drill with drill bits different diameters and a screwdriver.
  • Furniture stapler.

Preparing the back frame from timber and plywood

Considering the creation of a sofa for the kitchen, as an example, you can take a straight two-seater bench with plywood sides and a built-in storage box. After the side parts are cut out using patterns, the timber is cut into pieces in accordance with the dimensions in the drawing, step-by-step instructions will help in assembling the frame:

  1. 5 bars are attached alternately between the armrests in the designated places: 2 in the lower part at a distance of 15-20 centimeters from the floor - this is the base of the frame and the future bottom of the box, 1 - in the upper part of the back, 2 bars fixed at the same level just below the location of the future seats will serve as the basis for it.
  2. The frame is strengthened with the help of inserts located across the main ones in the middle. One connects the upper and lower rear bars (back), the other is secured between the front ribs of the frame. Another piece, screwed horizontally, reinforces the base and bottom of the box.

All connections are made with self-tapping screws. The result will be a piece that looks like a garden bench without wooden lintels.

Assembling a sofa for the kitchen

When the frame of the future sofa is ready, we begin its final assembly:

  • Alternately screw the plywood blanks, which will become the front and back walls built-in drawer. Fasteners are placed in 15 cm increments.
  • A sheet of fiberboard is attached to the bottom of the box around the entire perimeter. In this case, it is better to use a construction stapler.
  • The back, pre-upholstered with fabric, is screwed to the cross beam in the upper part. At the bottom - they are fixed with self-tapping screws screwed into the side parts on the left and right.
  • Using a lifting mechanism, a seat pre-upholstered with the selected material is attached. First, the curtains are screwed to the rear edge. The free part is then secured to the back of the drawer.

The back of the sofa is sewn up with a fiberboard blank attached to the upper and lower longitudinal bars.

When creating a kitchen corner, first make the frame of both halves of the back from timber and plywood, then fasten them together with a connecting part. At the end, soft components are installed.

Kitchen sofa upholstery

Upholstering a sofa yourself is quite simple. The work is carried out in several stages:

  1. Using a painting knife, blanks are cut out of foam rubber exactly to the size of the seat and backrest, and fixed in the right place with special glue. You should not secure foam rubber with a stapler - this will disrupt flat surface, will damage the material.
  2. The fabric is laid face down on a flat surface. An inverted piece of furniture intended for processing is placed at the top center. The size of the fabric blanks must exceed the size of the base to compensate for the height of the filler and the bending of the material.
  3. Pressing and slightly pulling the upholstery, the edges are fixed with staples using a furniture stapler. If the surface is smooth, without distortions or folds, secure it around the entire perimeter.
  4. To hide the uneven edges of the fabric, a fiberboard panel is screwed onto the surface.

If the kitchen sofa is completely covered, thin synthetic padding is used instead of foam rubber on the side parts.

The last stage is decoration

Once the furniture is ready and in place, it’s time to start adding additional decor. The sofa is covered with pillows in the color of the curtains or walls. To protect the upholstery, you can sew a cover with ties or elastic bands that will cover the entire sofa. This cape can be removed and washed at any time.

What do you do with old furniture?

Kitchen sets in most cases have a long service life, with the exception of one part - the kitchen sofa, which is subject to significant loads. That is why the question of how to create a kitchen corner sofa with your own hands increasingly arises among apartment and house owners.

The kitchen set is very important and necessary in the kitchen. However, it should be noted that kitchen sofas wear out quickly.

This design has a number of advantages, which are expressed in significant cost savings when self-construction and the ability to set the necessary design parameters.

Preparatory work

Before you start building a new kitchen corner sofa, determine its parameters.

Experts recommend focusing on standard sizes, since a slight increase or decrease in the height and width of the back or seat can lead to the sofa becoming uncomfortable and losing its ability to provide a comfortable stay in the kitchen.

The following sequence of work and consumption of materials are designed for assembling a kitchen sofa with the following parameters:

  • length of a large sofa – 120 cm;
  • product height – 85 cm;
  • length of a small sofa – 90 cm;
  • back height – 30 cm;
  • corner seat area – 45x45 cm;
  • sidewall width – 45 cm;
  • seat height – 40 cm.

The given parameters are not restrictions; the calculation should be made based on the number of family members gathering in the kitchen, however, experts do not recommend going beyond 150 cm for the main module and 120 cm for the small one.

Installation of the main part

The design of the kitchen sofa includes 2 sides, to which the back and seat are attached. The main load is borne by the sides, so it is better to make them from solid joiner's board at least 3 cm thick. Pay attention to the choice of the shape of the sides, since it is this that determines the appearance of the entire soft corner. Sofas can be oval, rectangular, wavy.

For a long sofa, cut out 2 sidewalls measuring 45x37 cm. The sides of the sofa will stand on support bars 4x4 cm and 45 cm long. Attach 1 more block of the same size flush to the sidewall. Such actions can strengthen the structure and give it a finished look.

You can expand the functionality of the sofa with your own hands by using drawers under the seat covers. To make them, you will need 2 boards 15x2.5x120 cm, as well as 2 trimmings 15x2.5x30 cm, which will serve as side walls. Cover the bottom of the box with plywood inserted into the grooves. Screw the parts on the front side with self-tapping screws, the length of which should be at least 6-7 cm. Close the holes using plugs or profile strips.

The sides are connected using horizontal bars for the back: 2 2.5x7x120 cm each, 1 top 2.5x6x120 cm. The bars are attached to 4 vertical posts backrests These elements are cut out of timber measuring 2.5x7x26 cm. After assembling the back frame, screw a sheet of plywood to the posts, which will later serve as the basis for the foam rubber.

The seat frame is assembled from 4 transverse and 2 longitudinal bars. Longitudinal elements should have dimensions of 4x7x120 cm, transverse dimensions of 4x7x16 cm. Attach the longitudinal bars to the ends through the sides using self-tapping screws. Connect the transverse planks with the longitudinal ones using the tenon method. After the frame is assembled, screw a sheet of plywood cut to size to the frame with screws.

Using piano hinges, connect the rear longitudinal bar to the seat cover. The lid should extend forward by 2-3 cm. Using metal corners, screw the backrest posts to this block.
