After this, the block should be secured on a flat surface using clamps and a recess should be formed using a chisel and hammer. For this job, it is better to choose a wide chisel with work surface 12 mm wide.

The straighter the chisel is positioned when hollowing out a piece of wood, the easier it will be to make a recess with even sides. It is important to remove parts of the wood with a chisel as thin as possible, otherwise there is a risk of chipping on the block.

On the second part of the lamp, you should prepare a recess that will correspond to the size of the USB connector.

The depression is formed in the same way as in the first case, but this will require a little more time and effort. It is recommended to use a 6 mm chisel.

The connector must ultimately fit tightly into the recess, so it is necessary not only to accurately replicate its shape, but also to take into account the existing height difference: at the connector itself and in the area of the cord. After the recess is ready, you need to place the connector in it and secure it with 2 self-tapping screws.

The next step is to cut out the plexiglass for the lamp.

The height of the part will correspond to the height of the lamp. In this example it is 210 mm. Depending on the skill, it can be cut from plexiglass the required form using a saw (band or circular) or delegate this work to professionals laser cutting.

Next, all the parts should be glued together using epoxy resin. And secure with clamps until completely dry.

For final preparation, it is necessary to treat the resulting lamp with sandpaper. You should use a coarser grit first and finish sanding with a fine grit. It must be remembered that the better the plexiglass is sanded, the more matte its surface will be, which will ultimately give a soft, muted light when the lamp is turned on.
The surface of the lamp should be coated with special products to better preserve the wood, as well as to give the product a finished look. You can use wax, acrylic paints, stains or varnish.
