    • 6 slats with a rectangular cross-section of the same size 25*60 cm, but of different lengths: 2 of 120 cm, 2 of 110 and 2 of 62 cm.
    • Five slats with a round cross-section of 2 cm. The number depends on the length: 65 cm - 1 piece, 60 and 50 cm, two slats for each length.

    Chaise lounge - very comfortable furniture, which gives home comfort and a certain charm to the area. It is a pleasure to relax in such a chair.

    No need to buy regular ones for the plot plastic chairs that look too simple or buy expensive garden furniture, just take a little time to create your own unique pair of sun loungers, so you can save your budget and develop your carpenter skills, and make original decoration plot with your own hands, which will later be a source of pride. You can make several sun loungers of the same type, or you can try your hand at making all the models at once and place them throughout the garden so that you can relax anywhere.

    Not so long ago, a chaise longue was considered exotic, and only wealthy people could afford it. We saw sun loungers in colorful magazines and American films, but even with a strong desire, trying to buy something similar for ourselves would have turned out to be a failure - there were simply no sun loungers on sale.

    Well, everything passes sooner or later, and the information revolution generously gifts us with new opportunities. Now anyone can find a manual on the Internet on how to make a sun lounger with their own hands. However, such plans often turn out to be difficult to implement, especially for a beginner. They require the use of a large number of expensive tools, and therefore remain unfeasible for many.

    This master class is a pleasant exception to the rule. The chaise lounge presented by the author has simple design and a clear folding and reclining system. If you approach the issue of choosing materials correctly, you will need a very modest arsenal of power tools and, in extreme cases, you could very well borrow some of them from friends and acquaintances.

    In addition, given the fact that the chaise longue is made of natural wood, it can easily also be used at home, instead of a couch or armchair in the living room. It folds and unfolds quickly and has a completely finished appearance. A beautiful textile mattress will complement the look, and the chaise lounge will fit perfectly into the interior of your home.

    In order to make a chaise longue with your own hands, you will need:

    Materials:

    Pine board 20 - 30 mm thick;
    - slats with a section of 30 x 30 or 40 x 40 mm for the manufacture of a backrest folding system;
    - natural or mineral oil for wood processing, drying oil or varnish for woodworking;
    - screws and small nails;
    - glue for gluing wood materials;
    - metal one-piece loops for fixing the back: two larger ones and a smaller pair;
    - a ready-made mattress with ties to secure it or fabric, batting, foam rubber and threads for its manufacture.

    Tools:

    Miter saw, circular saw or hacksaw for wood;
    - a sander if you are using old or unsanded boards;
    - screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver;
    - electric drill;
    - a clamp with a device for drilling pocket inclined holes (optional, but greatly facilitates the work);
    - paint brushes;
    - construction tape and square;
    - pencil.

    Step one: create a sketch and layout of the chaise lounge

    A model of the product is simply necessary if the product itself consists of a large number of parts. It will not allow you to get confused in their countless list and will significantly speed up the entire work process. In addition, you will have the entire list of parts and their exact size. Well, what would we do without this?

    But everything comes before a sketch. This hand-drawn sketch on a piece of paper gives birth to an idea and lays down the basic outlines of the image of the future product. This is where we should start.

    In your case, the computer model of the chaise lounge is already ready and you can safely take as a basis all the dimensions indicated in this master class. But first, write down on paper the entire list of parts that you have to make. Indicate their dimensions opposite and only then start working.

    Step two: making parts

    The detailing you have collected should be transferred to the material in the form of markings. Use a pencil for this to easily correct any mistakes that have crept in. Also use a construction square. Especially if you plan to use help for sawing boards hand hacksaw. It will allow you to mark angles of 45 and 90 degrees, and there is no such thing as too much precision.

    So, mark the parts and start making them. Cut the boards into pieces of the length indicated in your list. You will need:

    Two longitudinal frame parts 1850 mm long;
    - five transverse frame parts 470 mm long;
    - four blanks for legs 280 mm long;
    - four to five boards for the base of the sun lounger, 1270 mm long;
    - two long side boards for the base of the sun lounger, 190 mm long;
    - two small slats for supporting the backrest when folded, 580 mm long;
    - three bars for making a backrest 43 mm long;
    - four to five boards for the base of the backrest;
    - two slats for the backrest folding system, 230 mm long;
    - one horizontal rail for the backrest folding system, 460 mm long;
    - six small pieces of slats for the backrest folding system - three on each side.

    All specified dimensions should be clarified, since the author indicated them in inches. They also depend on the thickness of the boards you use. To find out the dimensions in your case, always start with general measurements and gradually move on to smaller details.

    Step three: assembling the sun lounger

    Start by assembling the chaise lounge frame. Remember that any frame is usually assembled using screws. This provides relative strength the entire structure. However, it often happens that screws alone are not enough. Then glue is also used. Such combined connections serve very well and do not require repair for a long time.

    Assemble the chaise lounge frame using glue and screws and secure the legs. Use small nails to secure the base parts to the frame. At the same time, make the back panel.

    Inside the hole for the backrest on the sides, screw two support rails on which the backrest rests when folded and on which the rail sections (teeth) are attached to adjust the backrest tilt. Fix the teeth themselves.

    Connect the backrest to the frame using a pair of one-piece metal hinges. Also make a U-shaped piece for the back and secure it in place with smaller loops. Check the backrest adjustment.

    Step four: protecting the wood

    Any furniture is subject to wet cleaning sooner or later. Untreated wood can hardly tolerate such treatment, and the result is often zero. Therefore, wood must be treated with suitable paints and varnishes.

    The author decided to leave the wood unpainted so that it could be seen that it was made from natural wood. In this case, the most reasonable option would be to varnish the chaise lounge with a matte or semi-gloss clear varnish.

    Since furniture is usually used very intensively, you should choose a varnish that will provide the most durable and wear-resistant coating. For example, profile furniture varnish. Apply it to the surface of the wood in several layers and let each one dry thoroughly.

    Sun loungers are used in the country house, countryside, beach and other recreation areas. You can make a sun lounger with your own hands from various materials. The product will be unique and convenient, but for this it is worth choosing the material and technology.

    Chaise lounge design

    The compact chaise longue is a lightweight and simple bed, which can be moved from place to place. The design assumes a slightly raised headboard, and the word “chaise lounge” is translated as “long chair.” This designation accurately characterizes the elongated seat that distinguishes the chaise longue. Furniture can also be folding or transformable, but a common option is a low chair-lounge with a raised back.

    Species

    The main parameter depending on which sun loungers are classified is the material. Wooden models that are easy to make yourself are in demand. Furniture can be simple, straight in shape, and bases that follow the contours of the body are very comfortable. Easy fixation of the back position, retractable shelves, comfortable armrests and stable legs make wooden chaise lounges comfortable and practical. The presence of wheels makes it easier to transport furniture. At the same time, wooden models are environmentally friendly, safe and durable.

    Plastic models are distinguished by their affordable price, easy maintenance during use, convenience and versatility. The furniture is lightweight and the design options are varied. Simple sunbeds are affordable and optimal for a summer residence. Original designer models have a higher price and good characteristics.

    Wicker sun loungers have a metal frame on which a wicker fabric is stretched. The frame may also have a fabric base. Such models often have a folding design and are characterized by mobility and convenience. To create wicker models, natural or synthetic wicker and rattan are used. In models with a fabric base, durable and high-quality fabric is used.

    Depending on the type of construction, sun loungers are classified into several types. The hanging option is in demand. It includes posts and base. An umbrella can complement the set, but in any case the seating area is suspended from the posts. Therefore, the supporting elements must be as reliable as possible and are often made of metal.

    Folding models are made from various materials: wood, plastic, wicker, metal with a fabric base. The products are convenient because they are easy to fold and transport. This allows you to remove furniture in bad weather, as well as conveniently store the chaise longue. All rotating mechanisms of the design are reliable and safe.

    The lounge chair is convenient because it allows you to sit as comfortably as possible, but without being in a “lying” position. The seat can be transformed, lengthening or shortening if necessary. The chairs can be folding or regular. The furniture is comfortable both inside the living space and in the country house or near the pool.

    Photo gallery: options

    Comfortable sun loungers are varied and differ in appearance, which plays an important role when choosing. Photos of furniture allow you to determine the desired option.

    The original base makes the chaise lounge unusual and stylish. The chaise lounge-ottoman is best installed indoors Hanging models have an unusual appearance. The chaise longue-ottoman is optimal near the pool. The rocking chair provides comfort. The double curved chaise lounge is comfortable, but takes up a lot of space. Hanging options reliable

    Scheme and dimensions

    When created, you can make a sun lounger standard size, which is 60x190 cm. Individual parameters are determined depending on the weight and dimensions of the user. After determining the size of the product, you need to develop a design drawing, taking into account the type of product. For example, wooden chaise lounge It’s easy to do it yourself, and the drawing includes images of all elements indicating the dimensions, as well as holes for their fastening.

    The drawing of a product made from other materials is carried out according to the same principle, that is, taking into account the parameters of each part. In this case, it is worth paying attention to the design supporting elements, which should be as reliable as possible. For example, for a chaise lounge made of round or profile pipes The diameter of the pipes should be indicated on the diagram. Each fastening and hole, moving mechanisms are also reflected in the drawing.

    Suitable material

    You can make a chaise lounge not only from new material, but also from available materials. The table shows popular material options and also reflects their advantages and disadvantages.

    Principles for selecting materials

    Wooden boards and bars serve as a good base for a sun lounger. For work, you should select dry elements, without holes and knots, without rotten areas. The comfort and durability of a chaise lounge depends on the quality of the material. It is also important to take into account the parameters of the furniture, that is, the thickness and length of each part. Cutting large boards can be done either manually or using carpentry equipment.

    An original solution is a chaise longue made of polyurethane or plastic pipes, which are used in organizing water supply. For furniture, elements that have O.D. from 25 mm. This will allow you to make a reliable lounger. To connect pipes, a special soldering apparatus and various angles and adapters are used.

    Metal round pipes differ complex processing. To create a sun lounger, they need to be bent very carefully, and the elements are connected with bolts. The diameter of the pipes must be at least 20–25 mm. For aluminum parts this figure increases.

    When choosing any material, it is important to pay attention to its quality. Surface defects, heterogeneous structure, dents indicate low quality. Such material will not allow you to easily make a chaise longue for your summer house with your own hands. Therefore, boards or pipes must be new, smooth and reliable.

    Determining the amount of material

    The amount of material required for work is calculated depending on the size of the furniture. Therefore, you first need to make a drawing that shows all the components of the structure and indicates their dimensions. It is important to take into account the thickness or diameter of the elements. For example, to create a chaise lounge from wood, you should take bars and boards with a reserve, since during the work you may need additional material. Self-tapping screws, rotating mechanisms and other types of fastening should be selected with a small margin.

    Tools

    To make a wooden chaise longue you need simple tools, which even a novice master can use. These are the following:

    • sheets or sandpaper for sanding wooden surfaces;
    • tape measure and building level;
    • large and medium sized screws;
    • screwdriver, jigsaw;
    • brush, varnish or paint.

    In the process of work they use wooden glued board and bars, drills of different thicknesses, several roller mechanisms, metal corners. The bars should be sawn in advance according to the drawing, which will significantly speed up the process of assembling the sun lounger.

    DIY chaise lounge made of wood: photos, drawings and progress of work

    Before starting work, you need to prepare a drawing, tools and materials, and cut the bars. The procedure is as follows:

    1. The prepared beams are fastened according to the drawing, but holes for screws must first be made in them. The beams are connected to each other using metal corners, which are used when assembling beds. Then the bars for the legs are prepared, the height of which is often 5–10 cm. The legs are fixed at a short distance from the edges of the frame, and this requires long screws;
    2. A roller is attached to each leg, and for this purpose screws up to 5 cm long are used. After preparing the frame, planks should be made. To do this, cut thin planks with a jigsaw, the size of which is 8x60 cm. Next, the planks need to be screwed to the frame, creating a lattice. The distance between the slats must be at least 1 cm;
    3. You need to connect the elements of the sun lounger using rollers. Next, the structure is treated with antifungal compounds and covered with varnish or paint;
    4. The result is a folding, comfortable chaise lounge. The furniture is optimal for giving or relaxing, as it is practical to use and compact to store.

    Chaise lounge finishing

    A wooden lounger or folding chaise longue does not require special finishing, but sanding and varnishing are required. This is due to the fact that wood of any species easily absorbs moisture and dirt. This leads to loss of appearance of the furniture. To sand wooden furniture, use medium or fine sandpaper. The surfaces and corners of the bars are processed manually in a circular motion. Next, the furniture is coated with a wood protectant, and after it dries, paint or varnish is applied with a brush.

    • Monolithic frame. This is an outdoor chair in which all elements are tightly connected to each other. This product is very durable and can withstand even the heaviest loads. It is absolutely safe even for small children under 1 year old. But, meanwhile, such a product during its operation may create some inconvenience. In such a chaise lounge it is impossible to make your own adjustments and change the angle of the backrest; it does not fold and therefore is inconvenient to move from place to place, as well as to store it in small spaces(pantries, closets, etc.).

    Preparing for creation: choosing a drawing and deciding on dimensions

    Before you start making a chaise longue for your home, you need to decide on the optimal design and choose the most optimal and simple option that you can easily make yourself without the help of craftsmen.

    The main thing is to find accurate and competent drawings that will allow you to easily cope with such work and ultimately get a convenient and maximum reliable design For summer holiday on your own plot, as well as near a river or lake.

    Choosing materials to assemble a comfortable and durable structure: tips for choosing

    Let's look at what types of country sun loungers there are, as well as the types of materials from which they are made. Their advantages and disadvantages, as well as what materials can be purchased for their manufacture.

    1. Sun loungers made from wooden boards and beams are considered the best, since wood is an environmentally friendly natural material. Today you can see a wide variety of options for sun loungers and sun loungers, from ordinary street chairs with a movable backrest to the most comfortable models, which exactly follow all the contours of the sitting body. Since the back of such a chaise lounge can be fixed in several different positions, a person can always take the most comfortable position for him while relaxing to sleep or contemplate nature. It should be noted that wooden sun loungers are quite heavy, so usually their frame is equipped with two wheels for convenient movement of the product around the garden. As a convenient addition, you can sew fabric mattresses with soft padding, which will be attached to the frame using ordinary rope ties. Since wood is afraid of water, it is not recommended to place such sun loungers near pools, rivers or lakes, where they can constantly get water or they will absorb a large amount of moisture. Water will cause the wood to swell and also deform. Even if the boards and beams are well processed by various means, covered with water-repellent deck varnish, it’s still not worth the risk. When purchasing lumber for making a frame, you must keep in mind that the boards and beams of larch, oak, birch, teak, hazel, and spruce are considered the most durable and high-quality. Pine is the cheapest, but it must be well dried and carefully treated with antiseptic agents.
    2. Plastic sun loungers are a budget option that are usually installed near swimming pools, on city beaches and in other public places. They cannot be made at home, but they have affordable price, are easy to care for and are not afraid of moisture.
    3. Sun loungers in the form of swings and rocking chairs can provide wonderful relaxation for both adults and children. The frame of the chaise lounge - swing clings to a strong hook on a reliable metal support, and then simply swings in the air. At the top of the counter there is usually an umbrella or a large canopy that protects vacationers from the hot rays of the sun.
    4. Very an unusual option can be called a designer model of a rocking chair, which has round supports in the form of two strong iron hoops. This chaise lounge can be easily folded and moved to another place.
    5. Wicker lounge chairs are a great option outdoor furniture for relaxation, which is made from natural natural materials: popular rattan, resilient wicker or durable hemp. Products can also be made from synthetic fibers. Since wicker sun loungers are considered premium furniture, their cost is quite high. Rattan products are distinguished by their beauty, design sophistication and excellent style solutions.
    6. Sun loungers made from pallets or pallets, which are used for moving and storing goods, will be an excellent cost-effective option. inexpensive option, since such wooden structures can be bought at a bargain price if they have already served their useful life and are unsuitable for use. They will need to be repaired a little, sanded and painted. multi-colored paint, and then you can assemble a sun lounger for your home. The base of the structure is made from two pallets bolted or screwed together, and the inclined back is made from the third. They look very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, and also have a long service life.
    7. Fabric sun loungers on wooden or metal frame are the most convenient, comfortable and easy to use. The basis here is a frame made of wood or metal, on which is placed a seat made of dense fabric (canvas, tarpaulin, jeans, teak, mattress fabric or camouflage).

    Wood and fabric are environmentally friendly clean materials, so such a chaise longue would be an excellent option for a summer house where there are small children. The downside of this outdoor design is the fragility of the fabric, but if it tears or loses its aesthetic appearance, you can always replace it with another one and the chaise lounge will be like new again. Wooden frame can be sanded and re-varnished or painted, and metal can be treated sandpaper and also paint it with a special water-repellent paint for metal.

    It is best to buy a seamless metal profile, since the chaise lounge frame will have to “support” a fairly large person’s weight, and it must be durable.

    If possible, purchase stainless or galvanized pipes, which are less susceptible to corrosion and have a long service life.

    Calculation of the required amount of material for construction: working tools

    In order to make a wooden chaise longue with a fabric seat at home, we do not need complex and expensive tools, so even an inexperienced novice craftsman can make such a design for his summer cottage or suburban area at the lowest cost.

    • One piece 19x38x610 mm;
    • One piece 19x38x648 mm;
    • One piece 19x64x610 mm.

    To make the seat frame you need boards of the following sizes:

    • Two pieces 19x38x1118 mm;
    • Four pieces 19x38x603 mm;
    • One piece 19x38x565 mm;
    • One piece 19x64x565 mm.

    To make a back support for the structure:

    • Two boards 19x38x381 mm;
    • One wooden round dowel with a diameter of 12 mm (length 648 mm).

    To make a fabric seat we will need:

    • Two pieces of awning, denim, camouflage, mattress or other durable fabric (a piece measuring 1372x578 mm);
    • Two wooden dowels with a diameter of 12 mm (length 559 mm).

    For fastening the structure:

    • Four bolts with nuts size 6x50 mm;
    • Twelve washers for nuts;
    • Wood screws size 4x50 mm;
    • Regular PVA glue or special glue for wood products.

    Types of structures

    If you have finally decided to start making a sun lounger for yourself, then first it won’t hurt you to get acquainted with the main types of sun loungers for your dacha. There are quite a lot of them, so only the most popular ones will be discussed below:

    These are just some of the sun loungers that you can purchase for your summer cottage. If you wish, you can make your own chaise lounge in the form of a swing, and also using ordinary tree branches as material. It all depends on your preferences.

    Making a wooden sun lounger

    First, you need to prepare a certain set of materials and tools that you will need to make a homemade sun lounger:

    • self-tapping screws;
    • jigsaw and screwdriver;
    • boards for covering the frame 2.5 cm wide;
    • timber 40x40 mm for the frame;
    • corners for fastening boards (4 pcs.); wooden slabs 20 mm thick.

    When going to the store to buy boards and slabs, we advise you to choose material made from softwood. He tolerates it much better negative impact precipitation and has a wonderful aroma.

    Stages of work

    Now that you have everything you need prepared, you can proceed to assembling the wooden lounger.

    You should first decide on the size garden chair. You can use finished drawing or create it yourself. Typically standard sun loungers measure 60 x 200 cm.

    Now you can start making the frame. For it you will need bars, from which you need to make four sidewalls - two of them should be 200 cm long, and two more should be 60 cm long. The finished sidewalls must be subsequently connected to each other using fastening corners.

    WITH outside the frame must be sheathed with a board 2.5 cm wide.

    We take the long sidewalls and attach 4 legs to them, having first stepped back 8 cm from the edge. The legs can be made from beams 10 cm long. We use self-tapping screws to attach them to the frame.

    Having finished making the frame, we begin to assemble the lattice. For it we need wooden slabs, from which we need to cut boards measuring 60 x 10 cm using a jigsaw.

    We attach the boards to the chaise lounge frame using self-tapping screws. Be sure to leave a gap of about 1.5 cm between the boards. Then the lattice of the sun lounger will look neat and beautiful.

    If desired, you can make a chaise lounge with an adjustable backrest. In this case, the lattice must be divided into two parts. One of them will serve as a lounger, and the other as a headboard. We mount both parts to the connecting boards. To securely connect elements, it is best to use door hinges.

    So that the headboard can be fixed in a certain position, the frame design with inside a crossbar should be added. You need to attach a support post for the headboard to it using self-tapping screws. If you don’t have one, you can buy it at any hardware store.

    Now that your homemade summer cottage is ready, all that remains is to sand the boards, cover them with drying oil or special paint and varnish material for protection against moisture.

    Making a fabric lounger

    If for some reason a wooden folding lounge chair is not suitable for you, then you can try making a fabric lounge chair instead.

    Materials and tools

    To make a chaise lounge from fabric material you will need the following:

    • bolts with nuts 8 mm;
    • a piece of durable fabric 200x60 cm;
    • round slats 2 cm thick (one strip 700 mm long, two 650 and two 550 mm);
    • rectangular boards 30x60 cm thick (two boards 1200 mm long, two 1000 mm long and two 600 mm long);
    • sandpaper.

    To make a frame lounger, it is best to use tarpaulin, camouflage or denim fabric. They have sufficient strength and are resistant to wear.

    Algorithm of actions

    Now you can proceed directly to assembling the fabric lounger.

    As you can see above, making a chaise lounge for a summer house from fabric is no more difficult than a similar lounge chair made from wood.

    Processing of the finished product

    To extend the life of your homemade garden chair, we advise you to immediately treat the material from which it was made. To do this, you can use the following compositions:

    • For wood, we recommend purchasing special protective impregnations and antiseptics that will reduce the negative impact external factors on the material. Wood materials are best processed before assembling the product.
    • To increase the service life of a wooden chaise longue, it can be treated with paint, drying oil or varnish. It is advisable to coat the product with one of the selected products immediately after production.
    • Water-repellent impregnations for fabrics. With their help, you will not only increase the wear resistance of the fabric material, but also maintain the brightness of the colors. The effect of such treatments lasts for 2-3 weeks.

    Buying a garden chair

    Perhaps some summer residents will not want to spend time and money making a sun lounger with their own hands. In this case, you can go to the store and buy there ready-made garden bed. The furniture showroom will offer you a variety of such products to choose from. Surely among them you will find both budget options and unusual designs of designer models of outdoor loungers.

    After studying the proposed options and comparing their characteristics, all you have to do is decide on the amount you are willing to pay for a sun lounger. The cost of such sun loungers depends on the size and material of manufacture:

    • wooden sun loungers will cost you between 6,000-15,000 rubles;
    • for plastic sun loungers you will have to pay from 1500 to 9000 rubles;
    • Folding frame sun loungers, which can be purchased for RUB 1,350-9,500, won’t hurt your pocket too much.

    When traveling to the countryside, many are warmed by the thought that they will have the opportunity to lie in the fresh air for at least a few minutes and enjoy surrounding nature. But everyone has the power to make their vacation more enjoyable if they prepare a place for it in advance. To do this, you must have special furniture like a chaise lounge.

    The easiest way is to buy such a lounger at the nearest furniture store, although some owners often make their own lounge chair and thereby save a lot. You can do the same, especially since you don’t need to have special skills and knowledge to do this. Even the most ordinary wooden deck chair for a summer cottage can be made from a material that is likely to be found in any household.

    But in any case, you will have to prepare for this work, because without drawings you are unlikely to be able to make exactly the chaise longue that you want, especially if you do not have the slightest experience in this matter.

    A homemade chaise lounge for a summer house is much preferable to a store-bought lounger, because you can decide for yourself how it should turn out, and upon completion of the work, decorate it at your discretion. Of course, this will require some effort on your part, but in the end all this will be compensated by the comfort that your homemade lounge chair will provide you with.
