Bench with a back made of profile pipe. A bench made from professional pipe in a couple of hours. Pros of using metal pipes as a frame

Metal profile pipe - classic material for creating garden furniture. Benches, benches, tables are welded from all-metal or welded profiles according to a previously drawn sketch. Boards or timber are used as cladding coniferous species wood, which is coated with special protective compounds that prevent rotting and corrosion.

A metal profile is a cheap, widely available and easy-to-use material; a variety of garden interior elements can be made from it. Low cost- the first advantage due to which the profile is chosen as the basis for the manufacture of benches and tables.

Versatility and ease of processing are the second advantage of profiled pipes: they can be easily cut, bent, and welded, even if the performer has basic skills in working with power tools. Having high-quality equipment and accurate calculations at hand required quantity material, you can complete the job in a matter of hours.

There are other benefits profile pipe:

  • resistance to moisture and temperature changes;
  • ease of care.

The metal from which profile pipes are made is alloy steel, which can be galvanized or have a special protective polymer layer. Both coatings provide the metal with protection from corrosion and oxidation. But in practice, most masters additionally use special compounds and primers that protect against external influences.

Resistance to loads, high and low temperatures provides ready-made gardening furniture made from pipe profiles with almost lifelong operation. The service life of products can be decades, provided that the cross-sectional area and thickness of the products are correctly selected.

Pay attention! To make benches, tables and other garden items with your own hands, it is recommended to use a profile with a thickness of at least 1.5 mm, and ideally 2-3 mm. Thick pipe walls make welding easier and also allow the product to withstand destructive processes longer.

How to make benches, tables and benches with your own hands

To implement the task, three conditions are necessary: accurate drawings, pre-prepared materials and tools. First of all, you need to decide on the model of future furniture and draw a drawing of a bench, table or swing on paper indicating the dimensions of each component (profile supports, vertical and horizontal jumpers, wooden slats etc.) Based on the drawing it is determined required quantity material.

Are you going to decorate your dacha or simply improve the place on backyard, then it is definitely necessary to make a comfortable and durable bench that will serve faithfully for many years. To prevent the process from seeming boring and tedious, it is better to get down to business with the whole family; this will bring everyone together for a common cause, unite you and give invaluable experience to the younger generation. In this article we will tell you what material is best to make garden benches from, share our experience and give useful tips.

How to make a garden bench from a profile pipe with your own hands: step-by-step guide

You are ready to start working and are already looking for materials, which means you can start. But before making a bench, you need to choose the right material. Now there is a reason for this huge selection. We recommend choosing a professional pipe. They come in different shapes and sizes, which will allow you to make the product the way you want, of any size and format. Why profile pipe? The fact is that it has a number of advantages:

  1. The carbon steel from which they are made is durable and easy to process.
  2. Ease of welding parts if it is necessary to make changes to the design of the bench.
  3. The material is lightweight, which makes it easy to carry it from place to place.
  4. The optimal price is perhaps the most favorable.

Well, the material has been chosen, but first you still need to draw up a plan and drawing of the future product according to which you will make the bench. There is nothing complicated here either, just take the basic dimensions, turn on your imagination and imagine in your head what you want to get as a result. It is at this stage main role plays with imagination and personal wishes. While the bench is under development, you can modify and design it as you wish.

Drawings of benches for a summer house from a profile pipe

If you already have experience in this area, then you can probably choose the required sizes yourself. Since benches are often selected according to the customer’s personal preferences, only you can choose the most convenient combination of sizes to create a comfortable and convenient bench. In this article we offer a general plan for most standard country benches, without taking into account the peculiarities of a person’s build. These benches are suitable for almost everyone; they are designed for average body proportions.

Step-by-step creation of a drawing:

  • The supporting part of the bench should be in the range from 40 to 60 cm.
  • It is better to make the backrest up to 0.5 meters higher than the seat.
  • The seat must be raised above the level of the lower supports from the ground by 40–50 cm.

Such parameters are optimal and provide convenient and comfortable rest for those who sit on it. Taking these parameters, draw out the bench blank on graph paper. For convenience, we recommend making drawings in three planes. This will allow you to evaluate and present all the advantages and disadvantages of the future product.

What you need to create a bench from a profile

Let's discuss a list of what needs to be prepared in advance before starting work. In addition to the basic material, you will need some tools, which are better to immediately find and prepare for work. Among them:

  • main material (profile metal pipe and wooden boards);
  • hammer;
  • Bulgarian;
  • drill with drills for wood and metal of different diameters;
  • metal corners for connecting parts together and creating a frame;
  • tape measure and other tools as needed.

TIP: stock up on boards and profile pipes; it happens that an error in calculations or inattention leads to incorrect cutting of the material and, as a result, its shortage.

Preparing the components of the bench

The main components of a traditional bench: support, seat, back. In accordance with this, it is necessary to prepare all the necessary preparations and materials. You can do this in two ways:

  • Make the component parts and then connect them.
  • Prepare all parts separately and begin assembly.

The second method looks like this:

  • Prepare boards of the same size, polish and sand them if necessary so that they become smooth and can be varnished in the future.
  • Cut pipes different sizes for support and backrest.
  • Make corners on the pipes, which we will then connect.

Assembly diagram for a garden bench from a profile

The materials and tools have been selected, all the blanks have been made, we begin assembly. The general build plan is as follows:

  1. The metal supports are pre-connected into a frame. It is easier and more convenient to use a right angle for this.
  2. Weld the parts together.
  3. Attach the legs to the base, also securing them with welding. The bottom of the bench is ready. For the back, attach a longer pipe to the back of the bench, upper part which will serve as a backrest.
  4. Clean the parts where the parts are welded.
  5. Prepare the wooden boards according to the drawing plan.
  6. Make holes with a drill in the designated areas for attaching the boards. Keep holes free of burrs and nicks.
  7. Screw the wooden base for the seat and backrest.

ATTENTION! At all stages of work, follow safety rules and be careful when working with electrical appliances.

One more important point There will be tracking at each stage of the product for compliance with angles. The angles must be equal and not skewed. This can be tracked using a level or by comparing diagonals in rectangles. They must always intersect at one point.

Congratulations, the bench is ready, decorate it, remove cosmetic imperfections and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

How to properly install a bench from a profile pipe in the garden

It is important to follow some requirements for installing a bench.

  • Your feet should touch the ground during a normal landing.
  • The angle of inclination on uneven ground should be such that the bench does not fall and creates comfortable conditions sitting
  • The soil under the bench must be made level and stable.
  • It is best to place the bench in the shade of a tree or behind a building.
  • You can place ornamental plants nearby.

Profile pipes have a number of features that are taken into account when working with them. Despite a number of advantages mentioned above, they have a number of disadvantages:

  • Due to the presence of cavities, any openings should be sealed with plugs to prevent corrosion damage.
  • They are difficult to decorate and give shape to.

And yet to achieve good result this material is great.

Bench for resting on fresh air should be on any local area. They take it for her different materials, but more often we are talking about the symbiosis of metal and wood - a durable frame is made from the first, and flooring for it is made from the second.

Benches made from profile pipes are popular; this material has many advantages, and the result is of high strength and quality.

At low costs metal, you can build structures of varying complexity.

Bench with flower bed

Metal structures can be different types. Many come up with additional functionality for them, for example, building in a small flower bed in which you can grow real flowers.

Bench made of metal and wood

Metal in garden furniture practically not used. It is usually supplemented with less thermally conductive materials.

Bench with backrest made of metal bed

For this bench, an old iron bed was used. Metal has received a new life.

Here an old cast iron bathtub was used for a bench. Original solution.

Transformable bench made of metal

Benches can have a complex and even movable design, allowing them to be folded out from a bench with a back into a bench with a table.

Benches can be of different shapes - with a backrest, without it, be wide or narrow, combined with a table into one structure. Simple and cheap options can even be welded from rebar or angle steel.

Pros of using metal pipes as a frame

For profiled pipes, low-alloy carbon steel is used, which has good elasticity. She has tall performance characteristics, used for both industrial and private construction.

This material is easy to bend, weld or cut; structures of any level of complexity can be made from it, if you have an idea about the correct construction of frames and have knowledge of the basics of working with metal.

In private construction, such pipes are usually used for arches, fences, gates, stairs, greenhouses, and so on.

The products have the following characteristics:

  1. Low overall weight due to frame structure design - this parameter depends on the size of the profile pipe and the thickness of its walls.
  2. The dimensions can be any, the main thing is to accurately calculate the possible loads.
  3. They are much cheaper than analogues made from other materials.
  4. The structures are durable and resistant to high mechanical loads.
  5. At proper care and regular updates protective coating metal pipes have a long service life.

Profiled pipes come in different sections: diamond-shaped, round, rectangular and square.

For frame construction Usually the last two options are used, since the process of joining parts is significantly simplified - they can be connected under different angles, making only precise and even cuts.

Welded frame for future country furniture

This material is easy to work with if you have the necessary tools at hand.

Connect did welding machine, which means you need the ability to work with it. This process requires compliance with safety precautions, and includes many subtleties that make it possible to obtain products with the correct geometry and reliable connections.

For frames of garden furniture, they are mainly used rectangular pipe cross section 20*40 mm. Its average price for linear meter is 70-80 rubles, with a metal thickness of 2-3 mm.

For a powerful and durable frame you will have to pay no more than 1500-2000 rubles. Finished bench in the store good quality will cost at least 10,000 rubles.

Many people prefer; step-by-step manufacturing instructions with drawings and photos can be found on our website.

Drawings with dimensions of benches and benches made of profile pipes

Before you start making something similar, it would be a good idea to find or develop drawings according to which all the work will go.

When choosing a drawing, you need to focus on your personal requirements. The material is selected so that the structure copes with possible maximum loads, fits in the allotted space, and is simply liked.

The size of the frame parts must be correlated with finishing material, for which beams, slats and boards are most often used, but plastic and WPC can also be used.

Some people like it completely hardware, but they are not so convenient, because metal conducts heat well and will become very hot under the sun or freeze in winter.

Knowing the dimensions of the finish, the parameters of the main parts of the bench (back and seat) are calculated and their shape is set. Data is also entered into the drawings.

Additional materials for the bench

If we talk about the full production of a bench, then you won’t be limited to just metal and wood. There is also a small list of materials and consumables that will be needed. They are listed in the following table.

Materials, photos: Description:

Primer paint for metal

The final coating of the metal may vary. Primer enamels are often used, which do not require surface preparation, apart from cleaning it. This paint is applied in several layers. You can even cover rusty areas with it, but we do not recommend doing this, since the service life of the protective layer will be reduced.

Grinder circle for cutting metal

For frame structures, the metal always has to be cut to the design dimensions. Used for cutting abrasive wheels, mounted on an angle grinder or similar tools.

Wheels made of the same material are used for grinding metal and processing welds.

Wire brush

Before painting, the metal must be cleaned. The task is to remove all the rust and expose its shiny surface. On this basis, even primer paint will adhere much better.

Degreaser

Before painting, the metal is degreased. This will seriously increase the adhesion of the material and promote even application of paint layers. As a degreaser, you can use universal compounds, which are ordinary kerosene, or its light varieties, for example, white spirit.

Electrodes for welding

Electrodes are also consumables. Without them, the benches definitely cannot be assembled.

Set of metal drills

You will need to drill a little, but you should always have several drills of the required diameter in stock. Holes are made for bolts and screw connections. The wooden part of the bench is fastened in this manner.

Bolts and screws

Again, necessary to secure the wooden parts of the frame. Sometimes they are used to connect metal parts, although welding is the preferred method.

Wood processing materials

We have combined them into one line because they may apply different options. Let us note antiseptic impregnations, which significantly increase the service life of wood under open air, impregnations for changing the color of boards (this includes stains, glaze, wax, etc.), protective compounds and paintwork materials that create a waterproof film on the surface.

These properties may be combined in some materials. For example, oil from water qualitatively protects and transforms the color of wood, making it more saturated.

Sandpaper for random orbital sander

The surface of the wood must be carefully treated to make it smooth, safe and pleasant to the touch. To do this, it is polished with abrasives of different fractions.

This variety is accompanied by the following set of tools:

  1. Bulgarian.
  2. Carpenter's square.
  3. Electric drill.
  4. Grinding machine.
  5. A hammer for knocking down scale after welding, and indeed this tool is always required.
  6. Clamps for preliminary fixation of parts.
  7. Brushes or a small roller for a more even application of paint.
  8. Welding machine.
  9. Tape measure, pencil, marker.
  10. To create curved parts, a pipe bending machine is required

Pipe bending machine

Other small things can also come in handy, which you will learn about yourself when you start assembling your bench.

DIY metal bench

Frame assembly

In the example under consideration, the master used a 20*40 mm profile pipe bent into an arc as the main material, which remained unused after assembling a small polycarbonate gazebo. Here's how it happened.

garden bench do it yourself from a profile pipe - the starting material for making a bench

Application bent parts made the end result interesting and elegant. If desired, several figured forged elements can be included in the structure.

First of all, it is necessary to cut off the crease that forms after the pipe bender from the bent tube. You can also cut off the second end of the pipe, which remains straight.

Trimming a crease from the end of a pipe using a grinder

Next, marking and cutting of the parts from which the base will be made is carried out. As you can see, this required a section 1 m long. By the way, in fact, the pipe section will be longer, since the tape measure is installed without taking into account the rounding.

The cut of the pipe must be clearly perpendicular - to mark it correctly, use a carpenter's square. First, one part is made, after which it is used as a template to measure the second.

Marking the meter base part

Shorter parts are noted - there will be 4 of them, exactly 40 cm long. Keep in mind that you now need to measure the length of the pipe clearly along the radius, and not directly, as was done earlier.

We assemble the side parts of the bench frame from the obtained parts, as they will be installed after welding. At this stage, you can adjust the position of each element, achieving the most convenient one.

This is what the base of the frame will look like

Let's take on again measuring tool and Bulgarian. Now we need to check the length of the front legs, which in the example under consideration was 46 cm. In your case, you may get completely different values, since they will be influenced by the steepness of the bend of the pipe and, in general, your own sizes, maybe you are 2 meters tall and have an oblique fathom at the shoulder.

After the described manipulations, the fitting of the joined parts begins. The main difficulty is to make cuts under right angles, otherwise the finished product may be fragile and even damaged.

When working with curved parts, it is impossible to use special tools for these purposes. You have to rely only on your own eye. An example of work is shown in the following photo.

Marking the connection of metal parts

We advise you to measure and cut the parts one by one. Before you take up the grinder, double-check it several times, not forgetting the well-known saying. After making sure that there are no errors, we try to make the adjustment. In some places, part-time work may be required. We are not afraid to do them while we are assembling the first side; now we have much more room for maneuver. The second part of the base will have to correspond exactly to the first.

This is what happened in the end.

Parts ready for welding

Parts of the first side of the base are used as templates for the second. The parts are made identical, otherwise there will be irreversible distortions during installation.

The parts of the base are welded exactly according to the markings. It is recommended to first secure them with clamps.

First, spot welding is done in order to only grab the joints without allowing the metal to warp. After this, the seams are completely welded.

We remind you that by performing welding work, you need to protect your eyes and skin. Clothing is used only with long sleeves, since due to the abundance of emitted ultraviolet radiation, the skin receives unpleasant burns. We work in a mask, not glasses.

Carrying out welding work

After welding, the metal must be prepared for further work. Parts are cleaned and polished. Scale is knocked off the weld seams, and untidy deposits of metal are removed with a grinder. The main thing here is not to overdo it and not to damage the integrity of the seam.

The rest of the surface is treated with a wire brush. In principle, such processing could have been carried out in advance, since some faces of the structure may be inconvenient to access.

Next, two pieces of 155 cm each are cut from a straight profiled pipe. With their help, both sidewalls will be connected to each other with a plow. The details will give the bench the necessary rigidity. They are welded front and back to form a closed frame, as shown in the following photo.

Frame assembly is almost complete

Welded joints also need to be cleaned of scale and made as smooth as possible.

The boards will be installed on top of this frame. The outer ones will be supported along the length of the metal frame, while the central ones can sag. To prevent this from happening, you can weld one short cross member in the middle, or two, dividing the frame into three equal segments.

The back in the middle should also be strengthened. Fortunately, there is still a piece left for this bent pipe. The reinforcement is installed without legs.

The tops of the backrest also need to be connected with a piece of profiled pipe. We measure its length after the fact and weld it into an almost finished structure.

Reinforced with jumpers both seat and back

Since the seat and the sides are connected by only two points on each side, there is no need to talk about the reliability of the bench yet. To increase strength, it is worth adding at least one bevel. They are also made from bent parts, if you still have any at your disposal.

Plates should be welded to the legs to increase the stability of the structure. To create them, you can take cut out walls of the same pipe, but it is better to find metal of a larger area.

In our situation, the master showed ingenuity and used old brake pads, ground to evenness, as thrust bearings.

Thrust bearing made from the metal part of the brake pad

Frame covering

To cover the frame, profiled boards 25 mm thick were purchased. If you want to save money, you can use any convenient lumber, but then you will have to spend a lot of time processing it.

Trying on the board - if the calculation is done correctly, everything falls into place

All that remains is to estimate the position of the boards and screw them on; when working with rough lumber, perform the following steps:

Let's return to assembling the bench. Having completed the preliminary layout, we accurately mark the position of the boards so as not to accidentally displace them. We drill holes with an electric drill, simultaneously going through the thickness of both the metal and the board. It's easier to mark a tree with a pencil

We leave 10 cm overlaps of the board along the edges of the bench. This way it will look more beautiful and the usable seating area will increase.

We do the same with the back - the gaps between these boards may be larger, since there will not be such a load on them as on the seat.

Further processing of metal and wood

When the parts are ready, the bench needs to be disassembled, so there is no need to tighten the bolts in advance - they are simply inserted into the holes. We do this for the convenience of painting both the frame and the wooden parts of the structure.

  • The last metal treatment that was performed was wire brushing. Next, it should be washed with a degreaser. To do this, the composition is poured onto a soft rag and rubbed over all parts of the structure.
  • Then the metal frame is painted. The paint chosen is hammer paint, which means the coating will be durable and aesthetically pleasing. The composition must be applied in two layers, allowing time for intermediate drying.

Painting the bench with hammer primer-enamel

The advantage of paints with a hammer effect is that it creates not a simple one-color coating, but an iridescent surface, somewhat reminiscent of granite. This can be seen upon closer inspection.

Coating from hammer paint– beautiful and durable

Next we process the boards. They can be coated with dark varnish, which will give the material a noble shade. If you want a deep color change, we advise you to saturate the wood with stain before applying varnish, which will color it deeper.

Lumber transformation

A profile pipe of rectangular, square, rhombic or oval cross-section is a popular material for industrial purposes, private construction, as well as the manufacture of interior elements country cottages, private houses and cottages. The material of the profile section is significantly superior to standard ones in terms of resistance to loads round pipes, easy to process. The use of profiled pipes allows you to create original decorative products at low cost - benches, swings, fences, gazebos, characterized by low weight and increased strength. Guided by proven recommendations, it is easy to make and decorate a metal bench with your own hands, characterized by a simple design.

Metal profile pipes as a material - advantages and disadvantages

Metal profiles are widely used for making benches. The material is made of carbon steel and has a number of positive characteristics:

  • easy to process;
  • welds well;
  • has an affordable price;
  • has a small mass.

Despite many advantages, profiled pipe has some disadvantages:

  • to give the pipe blanks a curved shape, special equipment should be used;
  • It is necessary to install plugs at the ends to seal the internal cavities of the pipe in order to prevent corrosion.

DIY drawings and dimensions of a metal bench

Product design features depend on individual requirements and are determined at the design stage. Profiled pipe is quite often used for the manufacture of metal shop structures. The back and seat of the bench are covered with wood slats.

At the design stage, it is necessary to consider the features of fastening wooden planks and a diagram for cutting profile pipe blanks. Depending on relative position elements, the ends of the workpieces can be cut at different angles.

Before you start producing a bench, you need to decide on the dimensions of the product and develop a sketch or drawing. This will allow you to accurately calculate the need for materials in the future and facilitate the manufacturing process.

When developing a sketch, follow these guidelines:

  • the width of the supporting part of the bench should be in the range of 40–60 cm;
  • a backrest height of 50 cm above the seat level will provide sufficient area for support;
  • the distance from the bottom of the bench to the seat support bars should be 40–50 cm.

You can make a bench with a back.

It is more labor-intensive to manufacture. However, sitting down on such a bench, you can relax and enjoy your vacation as much as possible.

It is possible to make a small bench yourself. The product has a traditional design. Device support frame requires a minimum amount of materials and is simple.

There are no strict requirements for the geometric dimensions of the bench. Individual considerations should be made based on convenience and functionality.

When purchasing a metal pipe with a profile section to build a future bench, pay attention to its profile, wall thickness, and the presence of a welding seam.

According to the cross-sectional profile, the pipe in cross section can have the following shape:

  • square;
  • rectangle;
  • oval of traditional shape;
  • oval with flat sides.

An important parameter is the wall thickness of the profile pipe. For example, a rectangular pipe measuring 40x20 mm can have a wall thickness of 1.2 to 3 mm. The size of the wall affects the cost of the material, weight finished product and corrosion resistance. In addition, welding thin-walled pipes requires certain qualifications to perform welding work.

The use of a profile pipe with a cross-section of 40x20 and a thickness of 2 mm will ensure high strength and long service life of the bench.

Such a product can be used outdoors painlessly for more than 10–15 years.

Profiled pipes are produced using a seamless or electric welding method. Manufacturing is carried out by hot or cold deformation. The technology for manufacturing profile pipes is not important when choosing a material for making a bench.

Calculation part

Guided by a pre-developed drawing, you can easily calculate the amount of materials and select the tools necessary for the job.

Required materials

Regardless of the chosen bench design, the following materials must be prepared to manufacture the product:

  • profile pipe, the cross-section of which corresponds to the developed documentation. The material is used to make the power frame of the bench;
  • planks 20–30 mm thick, made of softwood. Boards or bars are necessary to form the base and back;
  • galvanized screws with M6-M8 threads and a length of 80–100 mm, as well as nuts and washers. Hardware with a semicircular head is used to attach planks to a tubular frame.

Let's calculate the amount of materials for making a simple bench.

To make a bench measuring 2.3x0.6x0.45, prepare:

  • square pipe 30x30 mm with a total length of 10 meters;
  • pine boards 30 mm thick and 100 mm wide - 5 pieces, 230 cm long;
  • bolts with a semicircular head M8x80 with nuts and washers - 10 sets.

The range of materials used for the manufacture of a bench with a back differs slightly.

For self-built benches 1.5x0.44x0.9 you will need:

  • rectangular pipe 40x20 mm - a total of 12 meters;
  • bars 30x30 mm - 9 pieces of 150 cm;
  • M8x100 countersunk head screws with nuts and washers - 18 sets;
  • steel thrust bearings 2 mm thick, size 50x50 mm, under the bench legs - 4 pieces.

The profiled pipe should be pre-cut into blanks corresponding to the drawing dimensions.

To increase the service life of manufactured products you will need:

  • paint to protect the metal frame of the bench from corrosion;
  • material for antiseptic treatment of wood;
  • stain or varnish for finishing wooden planks.

These materials will increase the resistance of the bench frame to corrosion and ensure the safety of the wood when used in conditions of high humidity.

Tools and equipment used

To carry out work on making a bench of any level of complexity, you will need the following equipment and tools:

  • welding machine complete with electrodes with a diameter of 3 millimeters;
  • grinder with cutting wheel for metal;
  • electric drill with drills;
  • grinding machine (you can use a file and sandpaper);
  • roulette;
  • building level.

If radius blanks are used in the design of the future bench, then it is necessary to prepare a device for bending profile pipes.

Do-it-yourself bench from a profile pipe - step-by-step manufacturing instructions

Using an ordinary shop as an example, let’s look at the manufacturing technology.

The bench shown in the photo is made from steel pipe square section measuring 30x30 mm, is simple design of two rectangular supports connected to each other by two jumpers.

Carry out the manufacture and assembly of bench elements, following the given sequence of operations:

  1. Mark the prepared material, which will speed up the manufacturing process and avoid mistakes.
  2. Cut the profile pipe into pieces of the required dimensions, ensuring the required angle in the cut area.
  3. Arrange the cut parts according to standard sizes, check compliance with the requirements of the drawing.
  4. Tack the prepared workpieces for two rectangular supports.
  5. Check for right angles by matching the diagonals of the rectangle.
  6. Finally fix the elements of the rectangular structure of the supports by welding.
  7. Weld two jumpers to the supports, ensuring compliance with the drawing dimensions.
  8. Clean the welds thoroughly using a grinder.
  9. Slice wooden blocks, corresponding to the dimensions of the supporting metal structure.
  10. Mark the attachment points for the wooden blocks, drill holes for their attachment, and remove burrs.
  11. Soak up wooden blanks for sitting with an antiseptic, after drying which you can use stain or varnish.
  12. Cover metal frame primer followed by applying a layer of protective enamel.
  13. Secure wooden parts seats using a set of hardware.

Having mastered the basic technology of making an ordinary bench, it is not difficult to make a bench with a back. The algorithm for performing the work is completely similar, with the exception of the need for additional fastening of the backrest slats, installation of armrests (if they are provided for in the documentation) and footrests.

The traditional option for finishing a bench involves covering the metal part with paint and the wood with varnish. Of course, painting is necessary. It increases the service life of the bench, reliably protecting the metal from corrosion. Wood that is sensitive to moisture should be thoroughly impregnated with compounds that prevent the formation of mold and mildew. After this, you can coat it with a colorless varnish for exterior use.

If you show a little imagination, then an ordinary product will look quite original in the interior of the site.

Possible various options design:

  • the boards of the bench can be treated with stain or varnished, creating an imitation of valuable types of wood;
  • Having artistic taste and using colored paint, you can create an original design or intricate patterns on the bench;
  • usage decorative inserts or forging elements allows you to realize non-standard ideas on the design of a garden bench.

Must be accepted the right decision on decorating and finishing the bench. Only with a balanced approach and a thoughtful finishing concept, an ordinary product will become original decoration recreation areas that attract many glances.

Video: making an original bench yourself

The presented video shows in detail the process of making a bench with armrests.

Regardless of the chosen bench design for a private home or summer cottage, the use of profile pipes for the manufacture reduces the cost of production of the product. The material allows you to create benches with original design. Self-made benches appearance difficult to distinguish from industrial designs. It is important to follow the technology and carefully consider the concept of the future bench. In this case, it can become a real decoration of a suburban area.

Metal benches are inferior to wooden benches in popularity. Wooden benches and benches are easier to make; they don’t require special tool, anti-corrosion paints and metalworking skills. And no one argues with the fact that wooden bench made of boards and bars will be light and mobile, but a metal bench, even an openwork one, cannot be moved so easily from place to place. And yet benches made of metal, round and profile pipes, as well as metal-wooden benches on modern dachas and in landscapes country houses one of my favorite small shapes. Skillful owners often make metal benches with their own hands - as they say, for centuries.

Benches made of metal and pipes have their own advantages, although they are not as warm and cozy as wooden ones. The material for landscaping is selected according to certain criteria, taking into account the site conditions and capabilities:

  • When choosing a tree: beautiful, affordable and light, they agree that every season they will have to renew the bio-protection, and from spring to autumn, monitor the condition of the supports, which are vulnerable to soil moisture and the negativity of the weather and environment (wood borers, fungus and mold are dangerous).
  • Stone benches are prestigious and almost eternal, but their design range is not too wide. Concrete benches and benches are very massive and require a stable foundation for installation. Installation is impossible without special equipment.
  • Cast iron benches are heavy, expensive and too pompous and austere for a summer residence. The decor of a bench with elements cast from cast iron can be luxurious, but it is impossible to make such a bench with your own hands.

DIY metal bench

Aesthetic, light and durable benches – functional furniture for the home and garden, and the decor can make the bench a source of pride for the owners. Metals for making benches: you can choose lightweight profiles, but their strength may be insufficient. Strip steel in in capable hands becomes exquisite decor, but such a product will require extraordinary skill and experience. But almost anyone can make a bench or bench from professional pipe home handyman. Most often, rectangular profile pipes are chosen - they are also ideal for frame structure benches, and for making bent decor.

Benches made of metal and wood

Basic supporting elements and the frame in such benches is metal, but the seats and backs are made of wood - comfortable, decorative, and not heated in the sun. The cost of the bench is lower, and the product is more practical and convenient.

Wood requires additional bioprotective treatment. Painting may not be necessary, it is enough to cover the wood with stain twice, but it is necessary to protect the wooden seat and back from insects and microflora, because a beautiful bench is made for more than one season. Moreover, protection and painting wooden elements is carried out before installing them on the frame, over the entire surface, with thorough impregnation, and the boards or panels are mounted on the frame part only after the entire frame is completely assembled, all seams are cleaned and primed, and the profiles or steel strip are painted with a special coating for metal ( anti-corrosion and decorative). At the same time special attention pay attention to fastening units. After complete drying of the wooden and metal elements finishing installation.

Sometimes wooden seat boards are replaced with a corrugated pipe of rectangular cross-section, using welding for fastening. The ends of the pipes are open, and for decoration and protection they are decorated with plugs, for example, wooden plugs.

A well-primed and painted metal-wooden bench can withstand several seasons in any weather, but for better preservation, owners usually hide beautifully decorated benches from prolonged rains. Mobile benches are stored under canopies, but for a stationary heavy bench it is best to plan placement in a gazebo, enclosed patio or under a canopy.
